Lost Sister

Lady Countryrose

Ch. 13

When Hermione woke up, it was to the sound of raised voices outside of her common room. She groggily glanced at a clock near her. Only to find that it was five thirty in the morning. She waved her wand to hear what was going on.

"I am asking you again, what are you doing here, Potter?" She heard Lily growling at the guy.

"I am here to fight, not just for my honor. But to apologize to her, since I was kind of cold to her."

"That is the understatement of the century," she heard Severus grumble.

Hermione had gotten out of bed. Cast a quick cleaning charm on herself. Then she grabbed dark blue jeans, pants and vest. She then pulled a red polo shirt. Before putting them on, with her dragon hide boots.

She brushed her hair and another brush for her teeth. Then she marched out of her tower, down the winding stairs and out into the hallway. She glared at everyone that was there. Even Sirius, Remus, Peter and even Regulus were there.

"Morning star shine," called Sirius, like a happy puppy.

Hermione glared at him with harshness. "I know why Lily and Severus are here," she poked tiredly. "I somewhat know why you four are here." She had pointed at the marauders. Then glanced at Regulus with a raised eyebrow. "Did Uncle Tom request something through you?"

Regulus gulped but pulled a smile out of his charming family inherited cheeks. "More like, my parents would like me to reach out to you, in favor, for your Uncle Tom."

Hermione had taken a deep breath. Tom had warned her that because of her being in Hogwarts. She would be an easy target for old families to use their children to get something. She had no idea that it would have started so soon.

"What would Lord and Lady Black want with me," she asked as kindly as she could.

She saw the anger from the edge of her eyes from Sirius. He really hated his family, but to be fair, they had nearly killed him. Before Sirius had thought to become harsh, she noticed Remus tug on one of his ears and rubbed. Noticing that Sirius was calming down.

Regulus sighed, "Lord Black, my father, has been old friends with your uncle. He would like to reach out and try to reestablish their old friendship. Lady Black, would like us to be friends."

This had really caused a low growl from Sirius. And he had every right to. Since she was the one that made Sirius's life a living Hell.

"I have no desire to make judgments without my uncle's permission, Mr. Black."

"Please," he reached out and took her hand and kissed it. "Call me Regulus or even Reg, as close friends have known to call me."

Hermione raised her eyebrow at him. "I am not like most people, RAB." She smiled as she noticed the hidden surprise look in his eyes.

"How?"

That simple question was not easily explained. Since she couldn't tell him that she had been in his home. Like a ghost, wandering the walls from a different time. Where she hid from Death Eaters and evil government officials. It would not be something that one would discuss so openly, with those that could tell the wrong set of people.

Sirius glared at his brother. "What is mother playing at?"

Regulus shrugged his shoulders. "I honestly don't know, my dear older brother."

Hermione made her way towards Lily and wrapped her arm with her. Leading her away from the boys. Whispering softly to Lily. "I feel strongly outnumbered right now."

Lily nodded her agreement. They had slipped away from the boys, just as Severus Snape was following after.

"What can I tell my parents," asked Regulus.

"He will get a hold of them soon," Hermione had called back. Before long, they had made it to the Great Hall, only for them to sit at the Hufflepuff table. Where Sarah Miller had waved Hermione over. "Hello, Sarah, I am sorry that it has been a while."

The little blonde girl smiled, "No worries, I have met some friends." She had led Hermione to the table and sat around the first years. "Everyone, this is Hermione."

"Hi Hermione," the group smiled and waved at her.

"Hi everyone." She turned to the two with her. "This is Lily, my sister and Severus, our neighbor down the street from us."

Sarah smiled towards them. "Hi, Lily and Severus. I would like you to meet Loretta Davis, Johanna Greengrace and Jackson Trevers."

Hermione had heard of those last names before. They may be purebloods, but they were not the sacred twenty-eight. Just the names of those that were stuck in the middle. These three names she hadn't heard about before. Only to make her fear for their future.

She smiled at the group. "I know classes haven't started yet, but what do you think of the school?"

Loretta smiled softly, "I am really looking forward to Transfiguration. I would like to see if I can turn a beetle into something other than a beetle. I hate bugs," she shivered.

Johanna sighed, "I was hoping for charms. I would like to learn to clean my room without my hands."

Jackson had taken a deep breath. "Potions, I want to make people feel better."

It was then that Severus had brightened Jackson's day. As he explained some rules on healing potions. As everyone had pulled out parchment and quills. Making the rest of the Great Hall doing the same for first years. As they were eating breakfast and even then, no one left.

Hermione had glanced over towards the Head table. She saw a rare sight, Professor McGonagall gave off a proud smile. Hogwarts was changing and Hermione was the cause of it, and she couldn't be even happier about it.

At the Gryffindor table, she noticed the seventh years helping some first years. Instead of them pranking, they were teaching. Well, mainly Remus taught, while the others helped. Hermione was happy to see them doing something to help others.

With that in mind, she had noticed Professor Potter looking at her, she had seen mixed feelings in his eyes. Hermione could tell that he was proud that his son and friends were doing better towards others. But he was still upset that it had taken this long for him to understand what was going on. She had also seen anger, but she didn't know where that anger was aimed at.

'I know Albus Dumbledore can make anyone angry.' But she had a feeling that some anger could be aimed at her. Purebloods, as she had seen, no matter if they are pro-muggle life or not. Have the same thought in mind. 'Whatever my heir wants, they will get.'

Hermione knew that most purebloods don't have a choice about marriages. Not when most of them have been contracted since birth or at least sixteen, at the latest. But she knew the Potters are pro-muggle, meaning they have fewer chances for a pureblood marriage, even if they had wanted one. So it would make a bride for James to be more muggle than society would have wanted. Either way, it was not warranted for James's behavior towards women.

'From what I have seen from his parent's actions, they hadn't taught him to be that way.' She then turned towards Sirius. The only guy in James's group of friends, with that kind of attitude. 'Is he angry with his mother that he would treat women badly?'

Hermione had seen him buttheads with Mrs. Molly Weasley, all because she had wanted Harry to be kept in the dark. While Sirius didn't want to hide anything from him. Only for them to have a tug-a-war match over Harry. But in the end, it was that Harry had gotten hurt in the end. Where he saw Sirius die and Molly had won by default. Just as Harry was pushing everyone away.

'Sirius,' She mentally cried for him. But she wouldn't do it openly. She would never allow him to have a big head. At least not from her. 'You had a hard life.'

It was not enough for her to agree with his behavior. She just hoped that he wouldn't have to go to Azkaban to grow up. It only meant, he had until graduation to change. Then, at a shot in the dark, having auroras would have to do the job.

Sarah Miller had gotten her attention. "What class do you like and can you teach me?"

Hermione smiled at her. "I like ancient Runes. Because you don't always need spells and a wave of your hand to protect people. You can carve Runes into your home and ward it for protection." She had then shown a few simple Runes for everyone to learn and explained what they had done.

In the end, Hermione had them warded their bags from anyone that wanted to steal from each other. She saw their surprised faces when they had succeeded.

Sarah smiled, "What else can Runes do?"

Hermione smiled, "In ancient times, when Runes were used, it had meant that it was important. A record that was meant to be kept. Like a credible document that a person wrote because they bore a witness."

Sarah blinked at her, "Is that why we see a lot of Viking Runes on stones. Because they mean something?"

"Yes," Hermione smiled at her. She then showed them how to write their names in Rune, before she taught them to turn the paper into tags, then into bracelets.

Sarah clapped for herself and smiled brightly. Just as her plain paper Runes became a leather looking band, as the Runes looked like burnt-out symbols. "Oh my gosh, I have done it!" Sarah turned to her and hugged her. "Thank you, Hermione!"

Hermione had seen the looks on the teachers' faces and knew. They needed to find new ways to keep children inspired. Even go as far as doing DIY projects that they could enjoy.

Hermione had turned her leather band into other elements. Until it looked like an engraved sterling silver wristband with a purple stone on each side of her name. That went well with the wristband that she already had, on her wrist. Hermione was happy, she liked teaching people new things.

By the end of the hour, everyone in the Great Hall had their own bracelets or wristbands. The marauders had taught a fee to charm their watches to play music on the hour. Like miniature grandfather clocks. James even showed a few boys to charm flowers to re-sight poetry. When one came to her as a kind of star flower.

'You walk in sunshine, while I walk in sorrow. You are the star, in my darkest of nights.' It caused her smile to fall off of her face. 'My compass to my lost ship. Are you willing to rewrite Homer's Odyssey with me?'

Hermione did not know how to act or feel about those words. Or for the person who had sent them to her. She had pictured Sirius Black to say those, but not anyone else. She glanced over towards the Gryffindor table, only to see Sirius Black, looking like he would murder. Before seeing James Potter shaking his head. "I said to send it to 'Evans' forgetting that she has a sister!"

Either way, Hermione had already burned the flower. 'To bad, it was a pretty flower.'

"What the Bloody Hell, James. You send 'Red' lilies, because of her name!" Sirius sounded furious. She never pictured him to have a fighting match with his friends, just over a girl.

Severus pulled her close to him. Feeling him shielding her from the surrounding chaos. He leaned down to whisper in her ear. "Don't allow that mutt to get in your head." She had no idea that a couple of tears had left her eyes.

Lily turned towards the two yelling boys. But before she could say anything. Professor Potter had made his way to them and hit them in the back of the head.

"ENOUGH," he yelled, making everyone jump in their seats. "James, Sirius," he signed in a tired tone. "You are giving me no choice. Starting at four in the morning, you will meet me at the Quidditch pitch. Where you train until six, then you get ready for school. At four in the evening, you will do it again!"

"Dad/Pops!"

"NO, NO MORE!" He looked at the two of them with living anger in his eyes. "This is your schedule for now on. Daily and even weekends."

He looked at the two of them with anger and disappointment. "I don't know what I can do for you. It's time to clean up and grow up! I am also taking thirty points each from Gryffindor. For bad behavior in the Great Hall."

He turned towards Hermione and Lily. He gave a slight nod, before he made his way back to the head table. It was then everyone noticed a change in the air. Hermione didn't know if she was completely pleased about the changes. But knew one thing, the castle could not survive a war of any kind.
