The next day followed quick as the morning sun illuminated the hideout of the group. Minato was in the guest bedroom, bandages and other basic medical supplies surrounding him. Even though the stab wound was deep, it missed an artery and he didn't need any major medical assistance. Everyone else was just sore from the conflict last night.
Izuku awoke first, a stray beam of sunlight shinning in the abandoned apartment building just to hit his sleeping eye. It was one of the few times he didn't sleep in his Kamui, as he was the one who monitored Minato's condition through the night. After awhile, everyone else awoke including Minato as they discussed the events of last night.
Topics soon drifted into the conversation, leading to where they were now. "Why does everyone else have a group name and we don't," Minato complained. Shun gave a disappointing look as Ren and Izuku just stared at him blankly. The group was just talking about the names of confirmed villain or vigilante groups when Minato asked the question.
"Why do we need a name? Seems like a bad idea to get one." Izuku asked. If they had a name, the police could pin evidence to all of them instead of individually. "You know how the police like to nickname villains and vigilantes. Well, what if they nickname our group a lame name and it sticks for the rest of our lives."
Everyone pondered Minato's statement. He had a small point, and it would suck to have a dumb name. But Izuku sucked at naming stuff, so he wasn't even going to bother trying.
"What about The Retributionists?" Ren asked, catching everyone's attention. "It fits our goals pretty well. It means justice or punishment for a criminal or wrong act. Well, it at least fits our goals."
"Yea, it sounds good." Minato confirmed, Shun and Izuku not really caring all too much. "It's settled then. We are now The Retributionists."
Elsewhere in Hosu
"What did you say, brat." A shorter man with a suit yelled. His voice was laced with danger, and his bodyguards gave a menacing stare to boot with it. A boy in front of him, around 10 was quaking in fear.
"S-Sir. A n-new group formed. T-They called themselves The Retributionists." The boy was a spy for the Howling Night, and he was right in front of the enraged boss. "Damn that spiral kid. He has been causing too much trouble recently, attacking the League of Villains a month ago. Haruto!"
"Yes boss?" A man with demonic like wings asked. He was a bodyguard and one of the strongest in the base. "Send some men to attack the spiral brat. Now!"
Haruto was off in a hurry, flying across the room in an instant. The boss leaned back, a scowl on his face. The spiral kid had been warding off a lot of business as of recently from his new little band of idiots. Hopefully this would take care of him.
In an undisclosed bar
"Can you repeat that, Kurogiri?" Shigaraki asked in a dangerous undertone. His voice left no room for error and made even the emotionless Kurogiri sweat a little. "Another dealer has canceled because of The Retributionists we encountered a month ago. Only half of our suppliers even want to talk to us now."
Shigaraki put his hand on the table, all 5 fingers turning it into a pile of dust. Anyone in the room besides Kurogiri left quickly, not wanting to be the target for his wrath. "Contact the sub-groups and tell them to send their best men to attack. Tell them to attack that shadow kid. We'll leave the rest for later. That kid really pissed me off"
In an unnamed mansion
The basement floor was ripped into pieces and reformed again. The epicenter to this was a man in a weird plague mask, Overhaul. He had an annoyed look on his face, which usually meant certain death for the poor soul that caused him to be that way.
"Repeat that." His voice could kill most men from the sound, but Chronostasis had dealt with these situations before. His resolve hardened as he repeated himself. "A member from The Retributionists nicknamed The Garden was destroyed a shipment of chemicals needed for the next phase."
Overhaul decayed the ground once again, Chronostasis with it. He reformed it all in an instance, leaving the poor man on the floor gasping for air. "Send two of the bullets to assassinate him."
Chronostasis left and Overhaul walked into a different room. Inside was a girl tied onto a chair, fear in her eyes. "Alright Eri, you know how this goes."
In the HQ of Hawks.
The said number 3 hero (as of a month ago number 2) looked up from his desk. His patrol started in an hour and he just wanted to get some last minute relaxation before. "One of the previous interns, Spartan, that turned vigilante has been spotted in a small vigilante group called The Retributionists."
Hawks raised an eyebrow at this. He remembered the man, he was a straightforward and stoic man that pursued his dreams at whatever cost. His news of becoming a vigilante shook the Hawks HQ and lowered his reputation slightly.
"Send Crow and Starlight to intercept him. Ideally we can capture him and bring him back to be tried for his crimes." The assistant nodded and left. Hawk's flapped his wings and hovered in the air, putting on his jacket and flying out the window.
It was around mid-day, and the streets were bustling with life. People walked around, sometimes alone, or with family and friends. It was a bright summer day, one of those days where nothing could bring down the mood. However, for The Retributionists, it was another day of patrol. Izuku was in a city in the outskirts of Hosu, Shun was patrolling the alleyways near the center of town, Minato was lurking in the residential area, and Ren was near the commercial district. With this, all areas of the city were under watch from the vigilante group. Of course, something had to go wrong.
At around the same time, all 4 heard noises from the alleyways below. We cut to pov of Minato.
Minato heard a shout from the small street below, peeking over the edge of the house to observe the commotion. Below, he saw 5 men, all dressed in threatening costumes looking him dead in the eye. He jumped down and gazed at them some more. "Boss told us that you had to die, boy. No hard feelings."
They all charged at him. Two wielded knives, one had a saw come out of his forearm, one had spikes penetrating from his back, and the last had a faint glow around him. Minato charged as well, hopping into the shadows, confusing them. He quickly began to strangle one's shadow, causing the man to soon fall to the ground, unconscious.
He jumped back to reality and uppercutted the other knife wielder, following by grabbing his knife and plunging it into his throat. Two down. He hopped back into the shadows as a rotating saw cut the wall above his head. He danced around the shadows, until he arrived at a blind spot of the glowing man. He pulled out a knife in his shadow form and pierced the man's back, sending him screaming to the ground.
He hopped out of the shadow, only for a spike to graze his arm. He did a flip over the man to his exposed front side and gave a nasty kick that knocked the wind out of the metal porcupine man. He dodged another saw slash and plunged the knife into the man's arm. The saw deactivated as he jumped back in pain.
Minato slipped into the shadows for a last time and slit both of their throats, ending the battle. He dragged the men into a ditch and left, carrying out the patrol.
In the pov of Ren
Ren was in a corner of the commercial district, when a sudden glowing bubble formed around him. He quickly reacted and sent out his garden to feel for the enemy. He detected two presences farther in the alley. The barrier eventually dissipated as he went to investigate. He came across two people with plague-like masks and recognized them immediately. It was the Yakuza, two of the eight bullets. It was going to be a rough battle.
Ren quickly sent his garden to cover the alley, siphoning off of the energy to gain extraordinary stamina. He hopped around the alley, avoiding blows from the man in the black mask, aiming to take out the one with the barrier. He threw a knife, but the barrier blocked it without phasing.
Ren jumped out of the way of another set of rapid-fire punches from the black mask man as he regrouped himself in the alley. He needed to draw out the fight. The barrier man would eventually collapse in a few minutes and the muscle man would soon tire as well. He needed to buy time.
"So, why are you after me, Yakuza." The question caused a moment of shock in the barrier man. "So you know who we are, and you must know why we're here. Boss wants you gone, and we have come to accomplish that."
Ren knew this moment would come eventually, but he only expected one bullet to attack him, not two. He got hit by a rapid fire series of punches and was sent sprawling into his pond, regaining energy from it. His wounds began to close slightly faster as the bruises faded away. His quirk allowed him to steal the stamina of the opponent, and transfer it to increase all the output of his body. With it active, he could fight at 100% for days on end.
Ren, after sucking a large burst of energy from the muscle man, jumped at blinding speeds and landed a punch to the man's gut, causing him to wince. He jumped back again as the man smashed his hands into the water where he stood, stealing more energy. A barrier formed as he was about to jump, trapping him.
The muscle man started to run forward, but it was now only a mere jog, sweat pouring out from his mask. His resilience kept him going as when the barrier dropped, he landed a jaw-shattering punch that send Ren rocketing back. Ren quickly dove so his body was heavily submerged in the water, helping to heal his wound a bit and numb the pain. The muscle man then fell to a knee, as Ren charged forward. A barrier appeared, but it faded a second later as Ren kept his momentum.
He landed a flying knee on the man, knocking him out for good and stealing all his remaining stamina, putting the man in cardiac arrest. The barrier guy passed out before impact as he had a knife plunged into his throat. The pond faded away as Ren left, the two bodies left there being found the next day.
In the pov of Shun
Shun was now face to face with two people he recognized. First was Crow, who he met in passing a few times at the agency. Another was Starlight, who he was teamed up with several times. He had good memories with him, and just wanted to escape rather than fight.
"Spartan, Hawks sent us to take you under arrest. Please don't resist, we don't want to hurt a former comrade of ours." Crow proclaimed. Starlight stayed silent, giving a cold gaze at Shun.
"I'm sorry, but it's not happening. My dream hasn't been accomplished yet, and I can't fulfill it behind bars. I guess I have no choice."
Shun charged, an air spear forming in his hand. Crow suddenly grew several pairs of black wings, and Starlight began to fly as well. He knew both quirks, but Starlight would be difficult. Luckily for Crow, he could regrow his wings, so this might work.
Shun dashed at Starlight, then strafed right and focused on Crow. He threw a wind spear that impaled two sets of wings, causing him to falter in the air. A kick from Starlight sent him airborne, but he used his spears to stop his momentum. He didn't do this often, but he needed to take them seriously.
Shun materialized hundreds of tiny air needles around him, a new trick he learned a year ago. This surprised both of them as the barrage of needles soared at them. Crow covered himself with his wings, the needles not strong enough to penetrate his feathers. Starlight now looked akin to a pin cushion as he fell back to the ground.
Shun charged at Crow, dodging a talon and thrusting several more spears into his wings. Now, Crow was on the ground as well, his wings useless. Shun charged and knocked Crow out quickly. Starlight was soon to follow. He didn't know why Hawks didn't send any of the high ranking members, Crow was a scouter and Starlight was support. He would have to think about it later.
In the pov of Izuku.
He was surrounded in an alley by 4 men. They all looked like they were itching for a battle, but Izuku needed info. "Who sent you guys?" No reply. Screw it, he would ask them after. Izuku's left eye spun as one of them lost a leg into the Kamui.
Izuku quickly slipped into the ground, avoiding gunshots from someone above. He slipped his upperbody from the ground and grabbed the gun out of his hands, firing two shots. One hit the legless man, the other hit the previous holder of the gun.
He then jumped out, going intangible to avoid a bat covered in fire as it swung past him. He went for a counter, but stayed intangible as an arc of lightning soared through him, missing his ally. He turned around sharply and dashed at the lighting man. He ran straight through him, appearing in his blind spot and landing an elbow that sent him off balance. He followed by spiraling his tanto into view and stabbing him. He then jumped high as the bat swung again, leaving embers that lit the ground on fire below him.
He spiraled away, appearing above the man and plunging the sword into his head. Now, 3 men lay dead on the floor. The previous wielder of the gun only took a bullet to his abdomen, leaving him alive and conscious to talk. "Who sent you. Tell me now."
The man started to quiver, as just as he was about to talk, a pattern of ink surrounded his mouth and covered it, blood leaking out. The man suddenly just died, and Izuku got what he needed. Those inky patterns and the sudden death, he must be from the Howling Night. It looks like he would need to start searching again.
...
Well, that concludes this chapter. The main purpose of this was to establish power levels and to ignite some future plot, so it may seem a little lackluster from the previous ones. Though next chapter may take a little longer since it is one of the more important ones yet. Leave feedback in the reviews, it really helps me improve the story. Have a good day!
