Nat groaned, behind her eyelids dark red flashes crossed from side to side. She squeezed her eyelids and opened them. She was almost blinded by the light that greeted her. Everything was so warm. Opening her eyes a little more she took in the sky, it was beautifully clear, not a cloud to be seen. She stretched out her arms, soft grass tickled her skin as a cool breeze kissed her face. Planting her palms into the ground, she pushed herself up. A large green field stretched before her as far as she could see. She glanced about her, there was nothing else, nothing but bright green grass. She curled her legs under herself and stood, looking down, her Hellfire shirt was clean, not a speck of dirt on her.
She turned again, taking a few steps back. "Hello?" She called, it echoed across the plane, nothing answered her. "Hello!"
Nat… Nat, wake up! You gotta wake up now. She turned, jumping as the voice buzzed past her ear. Eddie.
"Eddie?" She called, spinning around. The grass blew lazily around her. "Eddie!"
Don't do this to me! You can't! His voice was pained, desperate.
"Eddie!" She shouted. "Eddie, I'm right here! Where are you?"
A sharp pain burst through her side, causing her to double over in agony. She cried out, crossing her hands over her stomach, when the pain subsided she stood, moving her hands away. Blood. Her hands were covered in blood. Gasping, hands shaking, she pulled up on her Hellfire shirt, the wound was huge, covering most of her left side, it was almost as if something had peeled away the skin. It was strange, she couldn't feel anything. "Eddie!" She screamed, her voice hoarse.
Stay with me… I've got you. I've got you.
She closed her eyes, pressing her palms into them. Lights flashed in front of her vision again. "I've got to get out of here." She moved her hands and as she did, she stumbled back in shock. Waves crashed in on the sand she was standing on. Turning, breathing heavily, miles and miles of beach stretched out before her. She hissed when her hip burned, looking down, her jeans were stained dark brown at the side. What the hell?
It's over, okay… Let's go home.
Turning, mouth slightly open, she kicked the sand in anger, letting out a desperate yell. "Eddie!" A sob choked out through her throat. "I want to go home… I just want to go home." Tears bubbled at the corners of her eyes threatening to spill over. She scrunched her eyes closed again.
I couldn't save her.
Thunder crashed above her, her eyes flew open, the trailer park was before her, dark and foreboding. The sky flashed angry red and the calls of the Demobats met her ears. She looked up, they were circling above her, screaming down at her. They swooped low, she had nothing, nothing to defend herself. So she ran and she didn't look back. Pain exploded in her chest as red flashed in front of her vision.
I'm gonna be right here until you wake up.
She stumbled, dropping to her knees momentarily, scraping her hands on the floor. A Demobat swooped in, talons scraping across her arm. She pushed up and ran.
We're losing her.
She cried out as another crashed into her side, sending her stumbling to the floor. Her vision exploded red.
Charging one-fifty. Clear.
A boom rumbled throughout the trailer park, the ground exploding in angry red cracks.
Charging one-eighty. Clear.
She screamed as lightning erupted through her chest. The Demobats screeched in anger. Her vision darkened. Hands were on her face, someone was shaking her.
I can't do this without you… okay? I need you. I need you Nat, I- I… I love you…
"Eddie…" She gasped out.
Clear…
Everything was so dark, so numb, but she could still feel him, still feel his hands on her face.
"Eddie…"
That's it. I'm calling it. Time of death, six fifty three AM.
"I'm saying the word…" Nat whispered as everything went black.
