Chapter 30 A New Frontier
"Great. You have retrieved the sacred deck. Make sure to bring it back safety. I have received word there is a room further in that will allow you to get back faster. Make sure to get there.", the official said, through the gauntlet.
They wondered what he meant by that.
"Looks like the quest is going well.", Burroughs said.
"That's good. I have to check up on Gaston anyway…", Navarre said.
"Who's that?", Walter asked.
"He's my little brother…and now father, mother, and sister are…", Navarre said as he looked down.
Jonathan and Isabeau put a hand on his shoulders.
"Right…you lost people too…I'm sorry.", Flynn replied, looking down.
"There's nothing you could have done…I couldn't do anything either and I was…right there.", Navarre replied.
"If only we could have found Ys earlier…He hid himself well.", Isabeau replied.
"Once we find this faster way back all three of you should take a break. What just happened was…I'm fortunate my family isn't exactly the party going type.", Jonathan replied.
"Neither were most of mine besides Stella.", Isabeau replied.
She sighed, not sure how to feel about all of this. Flynn went over to her and Navarre putting his hands on their shoulders.
"It has been tough on all of us. Fortunately you're all coping better than I was.", Flynn replied.
"You did go kinda berserk…", Walter replied.
"Thankfully we were able to pull him back together. Thank you guys.", Issachar replied, making them a bit flushed.
Flynn nodded, looking ashamed of himself. Nathan nearly gagged at all their comradery.
"Just what did I almost do…? If Nathan didn't have Zorc's power…he'd be…", Flynn thought.
He suddenly felt very scared of himself. He looked at his hands which were nearly stained with blood once more.
"Beyond this door is unknown territory for we, the people of the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado.", Isabeau said as she looked at the door which was no longer blocked by winds.
"This is…a tremendous violation of the Samurai code.", Jonathan said.
"But it is necessary if a new path will be opened.", Walter said.
"A whole new frontier…it's a bit scary.", Navarre said.
They passed through and had to go down a ladder which was a bit difficult for some of them. They found themselves in a corridor with multiple rooms. On the ground was metal plating and there was a strange yellow sign. The sign read 'There is danger of encountering angels from above on. Do no approach.'in mystic script. Burroughs translated and read the sign out loud to Flynn.
"Why would anyone think angels are dangerous? The Unclean One's must have left this sign.", Flynn thought perplexed.
He scanned for Ys's gauntlet, but he seemed to be out of range.
"Wherever Ys is he's long gone now.", Flynn said, feeling angered.
He was the reason this all happened and now he'd escaped. The duel with Garcha gave him the time he needed to escape. They all were checking the various rooms. Soon they came upon one with a metal door.
"Oho, perfect timing. That room over there looks like a fine place to take a rest.", Walter said.
"Finally…I'm exhausted.", Navarre said as he huffed.
They all entered the small room. The room was filled with strange artifacts.
"Hm…", Walter said.
"What is it, Walter?", Jonathan asked.
"Have a look at this.", Walter said as he pointed at a strange item.
It looked like a white gauntlet with a physical blade. The part near the deck slot was red and its blade was blue. It seemed slightly beat up and covered in dust. Flynn picked up the bizarre looking gauntlet.
"I've never seen a gauntlet like it in the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado. If that's what it is...", Isabeau said as Flynn looked over the strange gauntlet.
"I see a place to place a deck and the blade is like ours but always physical.", Flynn said.
"It's times like these I come in handy.", Burroughs said.
"Do you know what it is, Burroughs?", Isabeau asked.
"Scanning…", Burroughs said as searching appeared on Flynn's gauntlet.
Burroughs made strange noises while it scanned the item.
"This is a duel disk. It's one and the same as what those in Mikado call gauntlets. This one is a different model from yours. It lacks real solid vision.", Burroughs said as they looked confused.
"What in blazes is real solid vision?!", Walter questioned.
"Real solid vision is the reason why your gauntlets deal real damage. It makes the holograms the gauntlets create physical.", Burroughs explained.
"Holograms…?", Jonathan questioned.
"Normally without solid vision the projections the gauntlets make of cards is just that, a projection. But, real solid vision makes them physical, making them more than a projection. It gives them real weight and a tangible form in this world.", Burroughs re-explained.
"I'm still confused…", Walter replied.
"Oh…Another mystic relic…? If so, we must bring it back to Mikado.", Jonathan said.
"Aren't you carrying enough…?", Nathan thought.
"I can hold it.", Issachar offered, grabbing it from Flynn.
"You don't have to worry about that. I'll automatically send data on the relics you find to the Monastery. That frees you up to keep your focus on the mission.", Burroughs said.
"I need hardly mention it now, but you're quite clever, Burroughs.", Isabeau replied.
They left the room and found another metal door with a yellow and black pattern around the edges.
"…Hm. Does it seem to you that the room up ahead has some importance?", Isabeau asked.
"With luck we'll find more mystic relics like those 'duel disks'.", Jonathan said.
"I feel like a proper adventurer now. My dour mood from before is improving.", Walter said.
"Grr…These Luxuror bootlickers are the ones who get to do such things….it really pisses me off.", Nathan thought.
They entered the strange door. Inside was a strange white altar. The inside was light blue and circular with strange designs.
"What is this room…?", Walter questioned.
"Activating scan mode…This is the Sky Terminal.", Burroughs said.
"'Sky Terminal'?", Jonathan questioned.
"Well done, Samurai. I have seen Burroughs' logs. You have discovered what's called a Terminal Room. ", the official said.
"What's a Terminal?", Walter asked.
"It's a matter transportation device. It's built to move things instantly between different Terminals.", Burroughs explained.
"Instantly!? Th-That's some advanced magic…", Walter replied.
"There has been another Terminal in Aquila Plaza since ancient times. However, without another Terminal to connect to it remains inactive. Well…until now.", the official explained.
"This was the faster way to get back you were talking about.", Flynn said and he nodded.
"Then does this mean we can now travel instantly between the Naraku and Aquila Plaza?", Jonathan asked.
"Correct. The Terminal in Aquila Plaza hasn't been named yet though. For them to connect that step in necessary. Considering you discovered it you are allowed to name the Terminal.", the official said.
"My, this is quite sudden…Hmm. I can't think of anything...", Jonathan said.
"Anything is suitable, I think, so long as it isn't perverse.", Isabeau replied.
"I'll wager he simply can't come up with one himself. Can you think of anything, Flynn…?", Walter asked.
"I've accessed the 'NO NAME' Terminal. Please give it a name, master Flynn.", Burroughs said.
"I'd say we could use our last names, but it doesn't look like the character limit will accommodate that.", Navarre said.
Flynn silently walked up to the terminal pressing the buttons. They looked over his shoulder to see what he was typing in and sweat dropped. He very simply named it 'Mikado'.
"You're so simple Flynn…", Issachar said.
"You had the opportunity to…engrave yourself in history and…you chose such a simple name?", Nathan questioned.
"Well, Flynn would never name it after himself. He's not like that.", Issachar replied with a funny look.
"I named it where it goes so it's simple to understand. What's wrong with that?", Flynn replied, with a deadpan look.
"The link with the Mikado Terminal is complete. You can go between them now.", Burroughs said.
"From now on, we'll be making use of the transporter that you've named…I fear your face will come to mind each time we do so. It's a bit embarrassing…", Isabeau replied.
"There are also many other Terminals in the Unclean One's country. We would like for you to find them all.", the official said, appearing on their gauntlets again.
"I'll register that as a new quest on the list.", Burroughs said.
They now had a new quest 'Activate All Terminals'.
"The king awaits your return Samurai.", the official said, making them feel a bit anxious.
"No pressure…", Walter replied with a funny look.
They activated the Terminal and were enveloped in a flash of light. They really were back to the plaza in a place they've never accessed. After getting to the plaza the king really did await them. The Samurai's nervousness increased and Nathan glared at him growling. If he wasn't so injured he'd pounce on him now. Flynn kept a straight face despite his nervousness. He held up the sacred deck which had pure white sleeves and a golden cross.
"It is an honor, your majesty…As you asked.", Flynn said, before walking forward and getting on his knees presenting the deck to the king.
The king smirked at this, accepting the sacred deck. Issachar looked at the king with skepticism. He was the one who forced the crown Samurai onto them.
"Congratulations on completing the quest.", Burroughs said.
"You have done very well, young prentice. However, the sacred deck is not complete. It's missing one monster. A card Aquila lost long ago before Mikado's founding.", the king replied.
"May I ask what it is?", Flynn asked.
"It is one of the signer dragons. The one that reigns supreme over all the others as the primordial synchro monster…Clear Wing Synchro Dragon.", the king replied.
"There's synchro in its name? The primordial synchro monster…", Flynn thought.
Strangely the name struck a chord with Flynn. He feels like he's heard it somewhere before.
"I'll register that as a new quest on the list.", Burroughs said.
A new quest appeared on his gauntlet called 'Reclaim Primordial Dragon'.
"Of course you will still be rewarded handsomely for what you've brought.", the king said, before a servant came over with a massive bag of macca.
Flynn's and the Casualries' eyes were as wide as dinner plates seeing that much money. Even the Luxurors among them looked impressed. He was handed the massive bag of macca.
"Thank you very much, your majesty.", Flynn replied, with a bow.
"That's enough money to never work a day in your life ever again…", Issachar thought.
Later…
They took off the ball clothes they had and went to the barracks. It was already night when the ball started. They decided to set out to the Unclean One's country tomorrow. Flynn practically collapsed on his bed physically and mentally exhausted. Navarre went to see his little brother. Walter went to see Gina. Nathan and Hope were taken away. Issachar looked over to Flynn in bed.
"Do you need to talk?", Issachar whispered.
"It's fine…I'm just really tired now…", Flynn replied, easily falling into slumber before his eyes.
In his dreams he found himself in Kiccigiorgi however the sky was dark and a purple fog moved through it. Flynn tensed believing Doomking was about to appear in his dreams again. To his surprise the shadowy Flynn from before appeared confusing him.
"What exactly are you…?", Flynn asked.
The shadowy Flynn pointed at himself before pointing at Flynn.
"You're me? That can't be!", Flynn replied.
"…It's true…you know…I am…you…", the shadowy Flynn replied as if his words were distorted.
Flynn was very confused by this; it reminded him of what Walter mentioned. Flynn walked back tensing as the shadowy Flynn approached him.
"Power…we need it…", the shadowy Flynn said as an eerie smile became visible on his face.
It was the only visible part of the shadowy Flynn's face. It was an inhumanly wide smile. It only served to further creep Flynn out.
As the prentice Samurai slept, crown Samurai poured through the Terminal like ants. They all marched into the deepest depths of Naraku. A few men in strange clothes looked extremely nervous seeing all the crown Samurai pour out.
"S-Shit! Is this an invasion?! We have to warn Tayama!", one of the men in white said.
"Not just him, everyone has to know the angels are attacking!", the other man yelled.
They got on strange mystic relics similar to the one Nathan had ridden. They drove away on the mystic relics dodging strikes from materialized monsters at the same time. Not to mention the dimly lit streets around them were littered with monster spirits.
"Kinshicho is the closest! We'll go there to warn them first!", the man said.
They rode over to a strange metal gate where a single guard stood with a duel disk equipped.
"What do you Asura Kai guys want?", the guard questioned.
He raised his eyebrow when he noticed how panicked they looked.
"A-Angels! They're coming! There's a whole army of them!", the man said as the other one held up a small thin mystic relic to his ear.
The guard's eyes widened hearing this. Seeing his panic it didn't seem like an act.
In Mikado…
Flynn was extremely glad when he woke up from the bizarre dream. He thinks he now understands Walter's pain. He looked over to the still sleeping Issachar.
"Bucawk!", Flynn said in Issachar's ear, making him bolt up.
He sweat dropped looking at Flynn with a funny look.
"Really Flynn? How many times are you going to wake me up that way?", Issachar questioned.
"It works doesn't it?", Flynn replied.
Flynn noticed Navarre was already up which was unusual. The two got themselves ready for the day.
"We need to get some food and other stuff for the trip. We don't know how long we'll be there.", Flynn said, before they headed out.
Later…
As they were shopping around the citizens gave Issachar some nasty looks confusing them both. They were surprised to run into Isabeau who had three banquets of flowers.
"Oh Flynn…I didn't expect to see you here. Here.", Isabeau said, before handing him one which made him lightly blush.
"Thank you...", Flynn replied, timidly with a light bow.
"One is for Navarre and the other for my sister…", Isabeau replied.
Flynn looked at the flowers. Considering he would be gone the best use for them was to put them at his parents…graves. When they were made.
"How are you feeling after everything?", Flynn asked.
"Angry, sad, confused…I just…I can't understand what could drive people to do such horrible things.", Isabeau replied as she looked down.
Issachar frowned, feeling ashamed. He had done the same, probably leaving people like Isabeau or Navarre without parents or siblings. Flynn nervously held Isabeau's hand.
"We…can get through it together. If you or Navarre want someone to talk to who knows what you're going through…You can…", Flynn said as his cheeks reddened.
This made Isabeau chuckle which made him more flustered.
"You are very kind, Flynn. I'll consider it.", Isabeau replied.
"I think I'll give these to sir Damien so he can use them at my parents funeral. Hopefully I can be there, but I don't know how long we'll be gone.", Flynn replied.
Isabeau looked down with a sad smile. Issachar looked nervous at the looks he was getting. He knew he was supposed to be made a pariah but…
Later when they were all ready…
The prentices all met up together in K's Tavern. From the board they got the quest 'Find the Black Samurai'.
"I'm afraid you may have to set off without me for now. The servants can care for his basic needs, but Gaston needs me right now.", Navarre said as he looked down.
"I understand. You can stay with your brother for as long as he needs you.", Flynn said, putting his hand over his.
"I'm sorry…I must seem so lame…", Navarre said.
"No, actually this is the coolest you've been, Navarre. I'm actually starting to respect you.", Walter replied with a smile and a tick mark appeared on Navarre's head.
"What do you mean starting?!", Navarre replied angrily.
"You should feel ashamed, Navarre. You are simply doing as a big brother should.", Jonathan replied, making him flustered.
"Don't think I'm dropping out! I will eventually be back by your side! So, don't you morons dare get your souls stolen!", Navarre said as he pointed at them.
"We'll make sure, Navarre. This is goodbye for now.", Isabeau said.
They left the tavern and waved goodbye to Navarre before departing to the Terminal.
"It seems the young ones are setting out. Best of luck, Lord Flynn.", Damien thought as he watched.
As they descended down to the next room with a strange metal platform they were surprised to see the spirits seemed to be cleared out. Though, they assumed there just wasn't any. As they descended they saw the strange little girl from Flynn's dreams running along as if leading them somewhere. Flynn found himself running after her feeling drawn to her by some invisible force.
"Hoy, wait Flynn that could be a spirit!", Walter said.
"If a child is here we need to make sure they're safe!", Jonathan said.
Suddenly before the door to the next room appeared the man in the wheelchair.
"My name is Stephen. I see your quite skilled duelists. No wonder that girl has picked up interest in you.", the man said.
"That girl…?", Isabeau questioned.
"You have probably encountered her here somewhere. It will probably not be the last time you see her. Especially if you truly are the ones they entrusted the future to…", Stephen replied.
"Sir, what is this about?", Jonathan asked.
"You'll understand eventually.", Stephen replied, cryptically.
"…..", Jonathan replied.
"Allow me to upgrade your duel disks for your adventure.", Stephen said, before he raised his hand.
Suddenly their gauntlets lit up and they covered their eyes. Stephen had completely disappeared afterwards.
"Download complete. You have now gained the function Union and Intrusion. Would you like me to explain Union and Intrusion, master Flynn?", Burroughs asked.
"Yes.", Flynn replied.
"The first is like union or equipping a monster in a duel like what Garcha. You can allow one of your allies to use a skill based on the effect of a card you own. However, you cannot use your own skill. The second Intrusion allows you to forcefully enter a duel in progress. However, when you do your life points start at 2000.", Burroughs explained.
"That's crazy! Especially that second one! It allows us to duel together!", Walter replied.
"It would be smart to set up the skills as soon as possible.", Jonathan replied.
They created their Union skills.
Roar of the Undead: Once per duel: If you possess a level 5 or higher monster you can special summon one monster from your opponent's graveyard.
Anti-Magic Horn: Once per turn: You can negate the activation of one spell card.
Fiendish Thunder Clap: Once per turn: You can discard two cards to the graveyard then target one monster your opponent controls and destroy it.
Divine Prayer: Once per duel: If your life points are below 2000 you can target one monster you control and have it gain attack equal to the difference between your life points and your opponents, if you do send the top two cards of your deck to the graveyard.
X-Saber Sneak Attack: Once per turn: You can tribute one monster you control to discard one random card on your opponent's hand.
"So, who's would be best for who?", Issachar asked.
"Jonathan's and Walter's work very well for my deck. But, yours and Isabeau's can be useful.", Flynn replied.
"I think the better question is who gets Flynn's.", Walter said, with a funny look.
"You and Flynn do special summon a lot. Jonathan and Issachar don't special summon as much. So, one of you two would get the best mileage out of mine.", Isabeau replied.
Flynn and Walter looked at each other wondering which of them should use it.
"It is very distruptive…and my deck likes doing that. I don't have any synchro monsters above level 6 so I do run into situations where I can't use my tuners.", Flynn thought as he cupped his chin.
"I could use it. I have times where I simply can't use my tuners fully and Plaguespreader likes being in the graveyard.", Flynn replied.
Isabeau nodded before their gauntlets briefly linked.
"My cards only activate when sent from the deck…so…I could use Issachar or Flynn's.", Jonathan said.
"Actually now that I think about it, negating one spell could be really useful especially if it's Raigeki. My deck has enough offense, but I can't counter much. So, I guess I'll use Issachar's.", Walter said and Issachar nodded.
Their gauntlets were briefly linked.
"So, the skills left are mine, Walter's and Flynn's.", Jonathan said.
"I can make my attacks strong with White-Horned Dragon, but I really can't special summon a lot. So…", Issachar said as Flynn held up his gauntlet as if reading his mind.
"That's fine.", Jonathan said.
The two gauntlets linked together.
"That just leaves Jonathan and Walter's…I'm not sure if I can afford to be discarding my cards, but Jonathan can draw a bunch. I think Jonathan's would be best.", Isabeau replied and Jonathan nodded.
They then linked theirs.
"That means I'll use Walter's then.", Jonathan said, before the two linked.
"We're finally all set now. Let's go!", Walter said as he raised his fist.
They entered another metal door. When they went through they could see a massive window which they gathered in front of.
"Wh-What is this…!?", Jonathan questioned, astounded.
"There are stars below us…", Walter said, sounding confused.
"It's lovely…", Isabeau commented in an appreciative tone.
"We're supposed to be going down, but it looks like we're in a tower!", Issachar said, with surprise.
"This place is the origin of those vile ritual monsters.", Flynn said, darkly.
The underground had massive buildings that towers over the ground. Green lights littered the spirit infested streets. The sky above was covered with no natural light coming in.
All of them minus Issachar suddenly flinched as a chorus of dragon roars could be heard. They looked down at their arms seeing their signer marks glowing vibrantly. It was as if the Crimson Dragon was beckoning them forward.
They then noticed a lot of purple which caught their attention. There were explosions and screaming which made them alert. Flynn touched the glass with his hands looking down.
"We have to get down there!", Flynn said, urgently and the others nodded.
