Leia was eating dinner with her grandparents and Jackie. She was listening to what Jackie's life was like in Chicago. She was raising her twins with her soon-to-be ex-husband, Fez, in the city and was a dermatologist. Jackie was putting a lot of focus onto her job and kids and didn't have time to get caught up into a new relationship after the divorce with Fez.
Leia always thought Jackie was so beautiful. She was jealous. With Jackie's good looks, she could easily get any guy she wanted. But Leia respected that Jackie puts her children first.
After dinner was over, Leia was washing the dishes and Jackie helped clean them. The two ladies were talking to each other while Red and Kitty were lounging in the living room.
"How do you like Point Place so far, Leia?" Jackie asked her niece while she dried the dishes off and put them away.
"It's okay," Leia shrugged. "Not so bad like I thought. Met new friends here and I got to see Uncle Steven."
"You saw Steven?" That part got Jackie's attention. She hadn't heard his name in a while.
"Yeah," Leia answered without thinking about it, but then she remembered that her Aunt Jackie and Uncle Steven had something between them years ago when they were younger. Leia gave her aunt a look. "You and Uncle Steven had some kind of...history back then, didn't you?"
Jackie sighed as she thought about it. "A complicated history."
"But I don't get it. Dad once told me that the one person Uncle Steven had ever loved was you. How can that be complicated?" Leia was confused since she didn't know much about relationships. "Didn't you love him back?"
"I love him, Leia, it's just that there was a lot of misunderstandings and commitment issues."
"Do you still love him now?" She wondered. "You're getting divorced so it wouldn't hurt to look around, right?"
"Not so soon and I have my kids to think about before I bring another man back into my life, Leia. Dating is not so easy and simple."
"I wouldn't know," Leia muttered. "I've never been in a relationship. Hell, I've never had my first kiss yet!"
"You will have it eventually," Jackie encouraged with an amused smile. "It's better to have your first kiss with someone you truly love."
"Who did you have your first kiss with?" Leia asked with interest, her eyes gleaming for gossip. "Was it with Uncle Steven or Uncle Fez?"
"Neither. I wish it was with Uncle Steven," Jackie said to herself which Leia heard. "It was with your Uncle Michael."
That was new and wild information for her.
"Seriously? No way!" Leia was so surprised. "Did you have your...you know...first time with Uncle Steven or Uncle Fez at least?"
"No," She answered with disappointment. "It was your Uncle Michael again."
"What?!" Leia was shocked. She couldn't picture Jackie and Michael together. "I only knew some stuff about you and Uncle Steven! I didn't know you and Uncle Michael got together like that! What did you see in him?"
"He was someone my mother taught me to like in boys. I thought a guy like Michael Kelso had it all. He was very good looking."
Leia almost wanted to laugh at the shallow reasons, but failed to disguise it as a cough.
"You only liked him because he was good looking? I'm sorry, but isn't that...shallow?"
"Yeah, you won't believe how different I was back then compared to today. I was so vain and shallow, but I'm not anymore. My experiences with Michael, Steven, and Fez changed me a lot for the better. Taught me a lot of things about myself."
Leia thought Jackie had nearly dated all of her guy friends. But there was someone else she missed and Leia wondered if they had some affair or feelings.
"Did you ever date or kissed my Dad?" Leia wondered.
That would be even way weirder than Jackie being with Michael.
"Oh, god no!" Jackie laughed as if it was ridiculous. "Your Dad and I barely tolerated each other. We were more like brother and sister. Your Dad has always been in love with your Mom since they were kids."
"I know that part. I can't believe you used to date Uncle Michael." Leia said with disbelief and was still surprised.
"Not one of my proudest moments of my life, but I still care about him."
"What about Uncle Steven?"
"Yes, I'll always care about Steven. No matter what happened between us, he has a soft spot in my heart."
"Do you still loooove him?" Leia gently teased, playfully dragging out the L word.
Jackie gave her a playful, annoyed look, but still answered anyway. "Should that be any of your business?"
Leia didn't know what so wrong about letting someone else know that you still love a former boyfriend.
"I wouldn't tell anyone. Not even my parents or Uncle Steven. You can trust me, Aunt Jackie," Leia said sincerely then had a bright idea. "You can even tell him yourself. He still works at Grooves. We can visit him."
"Oh, I don't think that's a good idea, Leia." Jackie shook her head.
"Why not? Aren't you two still friends?"
"Well, yeah, but you have to understand that I haven't seen Steven in years. I can't just drop the L bomb on him after all this time. Plus, Fez and I haven't finalized our divorce yet and I have kids. I just can't go into a new relationship right now, Leia."
"Who says anything that you have to date him? You two can just hang out as friends. You guys haven't seen each other forever so it'll be a nice...reunion."
"I don't know, Leia..."
"When do you think you will ever get the chance to see Uncle Steven again?" Leia challenged her which made Jackie think about it. "We just need an excuse to leave."
"How about going for some ice cream?" Jackie suggested. "Just the two of us. It's been a while since I've spent any time with you, anyway."
"Okay, but I should have a good reason to be at Grooves, don't you think?"
"Is there any music you need to get?"
"No."
"How about for any of your new friends or back at home in Madison?"
Leia thought about her friends and what kind of music they liked. But she also thought about DJ and what he likes.
"I know DJ likes rock music," Leia hoped she was blushing. "I can pick out something for him as a random gift."
"Oh, so who is this DJ?" Jackie asked with her arms crossed after they were done cleaning up.
"Just a boy I met here," Leia answered carelessly, trying to act casual. "He really likes music. Rock and roll music mostly. He's the one who got me into Guns N' Roses."
"Well, it'll be nice to pick something out that he likes. I'm sure he'll appreciate it. When it was your Dad's birthday and your Mom was trying to pick out a present for him, I suggested a candle," Then a triumphant smile spread onto her face. "And look at where they are now. That's because of me."
"A candle?" Leia was very confused. "Why would a candle work?"
"Cause it was supposed to set the mood," Jackie explained. "But you should do that for a special occasion like DJ's birthday. Do you like him?"
"Kinda, yeah," Leia confessed sheepishly. "But I'm only going to stay here for the summer and then move back to Madison. It'll be pointless to start a new relationship and I don't want to be the type of girl that leads him on. Also, he just broke up with Taylor and I think she has some feelings left over for him that she doesn't want to admit. And I don't want to be the one to get in the way and cause any drama and-"
"Okay! Okay! I get it." Jackie had to stop her ranting before she would get a headache.
"Sorry. I just think getting DJ a new CD sounds good, right? It's just a gift from a friend to a friend."
"Yeah, that should send the message across," Jackie agreed. "Thoughtful gifts are very nice, too."
"Okay. What should we tell my grandparents we're up to?"
"That I'm going to spend time with my niece," Jackie answered, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.
"We're going to get ice cream for dessert."
"Ice cream?" Leia raised an eyebrow unsure of that.
"It's that time of the month for you right now, Leia, you deserve ice cream."
After explaining to Kitty and Red what Leia and Jackie was doing, they hung out at Dairy Queen together then Jackie drove them to Grooves before they would close for the day.
Jackie had parked her car at the parking lot and saw the music store. It felt like the sight of the music store had taken her years back into the seventies. She remembered when it first opened and supported Steven throughout it all.
"You okay?" Leia asked, sitting in the passenger seat looking at her.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine," Jackie answered, shaking her head out of the flashback. "This place has just taken me back. So many memories." She felt the nostalgic coming in of her teen years and when she still dated Steven.
"We don't have to do this if you're not ready," Leia said softly as an after thought. "I don't want to pressure you if you're not comfortable-"
"It's okay, Leia," Jackie gently interrupted her. "I should see Steven. We're friends. We can act like mature adults."
Leia hoped that would be the case as Jackie and herself got out of the car. She entered the store with the brunette. They looked around for Steven Hyde, but couldn't find him.
Leia spotted Aaron, though.
"Aaron?" She called for him and he turned around.
"What are you doing here, Forman? We're going to close soon," Aaron said, but recognized the older woman next to him. He was surprised to see her and haven't seen Jackie since he was a little kid. "Aunt Jackie?"
"Hi, Aaron," Jackie happily greeted him and gave him a hug. She looked up and down at Aaron after letting go, admiring him. "Wow, you've grown so much! You look a lot like your Dad."
"I get that a lot." Aaron shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal.
"Is he around?" She wondered, being secretly eager to see him.
"Dad is talking to my Mom in his office right now. They should be done soon."
Jackie's face paled and she was slightly disappointed. She wished she can talk to Steven alone.
"Oh, your Mom is here?" Leia spoke, noticing her aunt's reaction.
"Yeah," Aaron sighed, rolling her eyes. "Talking about which one can get to have me for the week. They toss me around like I'm a toy or something! I can't wait until I'm eighteen to move out and be far away from them for good!"
"You don't mean that, Aaron." Leia frowned, shaking her head.
"Aaron, Steven is a good father and he wants what's best for you," Jackie slightly scolded him. "I'm sure he would love to have you every day if he can."
"I know he would, but Mom makes it so-" Aaron instantly stopped himself when he saw his parents coming out of the office together.
Both of them looked like they were tired of each other. As if they couldn't stand being in the same room. Hyde looked miserable and the gorgeous, yet rough looking blonde woman looked like she had enough.
"There you go again, Natalie!" Hyde angrily said, seeming to lose his patience with her. "You got to have things your way. Make yourself look better while you're on top."
"I thought that's one of things you loved about me, remember?" Natalie gave him a lascivious smirk.
Hyde just rolled his eyes, shaking his head.
"I get to go with you, don't I?" Aaron bluntly assumed to his mother since his father was angry.
"Don't sound so thrilled." Natalie replied sarcastically. She was the one who noticed the other two women. "It seems you have customers, Steven."
Hyde looked at his newest customers to see Leia, and to his immense surprise, Jackie Burkhart.
"Jackie...?" He breathed.
"Hi, Steven," Jackie greeted, feeling a little awkward and uncomfortable next to the woman named Natalie. "It's been a long time."
"Yeah, it has..." Hyde nodded as if he's still in a trance at seeing her for the first time in forever. "How are you and Fez?"
"We're getting a divorce."
"Oh, really?" Before Hyde could get to say anything else, Natalie had to speak up.
"Wait a second. Is this the same Jackie as in Jackie Burkhart? The little spoiled rich princess you had a fling with?"
"It wasn't a fling," Hyde corrected her. "We had an actual relationship."
"Oh, as if we didn't?" Natalie asked, feeling insulted.
"No, we didn't. A committed relationship is something you don't understand." He replied sternly, giving her a hard look. She just glared at him then narrowed her eyes down at Jackie as if the brunette was beneath her.
"You are the famous Jackie Burkhart I kept hearing about," Natalie recognized her. Hyde felt tense as she spoke to Jackie. "First one to steal Steven's heart. You're not that bad looking like I thought. But even you can do a lot better."
Hyde rolled his eyes as Aaron just gave an apologetic glance to Jackie.
"Let's go, Aaron." Natalie ordered her son who reluctantly followed his mother. Hyde ruffled his son's hair, saying goodbye to each other.
After Natalie and Aaron left, Leia felt extremely awkward and uncomfortable being with Hyde and Jackie.
"Ummm...well, I, uh...I'm just gonna go look at CDs for my friend soooo I'm just gonna...go way over...there." Leia said and left desperately to check out the music.
Hyde and Jackie was left alone together.
"So...uh..." Hyde was the first one to speak after a long awkward pause. "How are things going? Despite the, uh, divorce."
"Good. I'm doing...good. The kids are good. Work is good. Everything is...good." Jackie answered lamely.
"That's good," Hyde replied then they both shared a chuckle at their lack of words. "So, you and Fez have been out of the honeymoon phase?"
"We've been out of that phase a long time ago. You know we got married because I got pregnant with the twins."
"Yeah, I remember," Hyde let out another chuckle at the memory. "Fez got you knocked up after the first time you slept with him."
"I also remember that was the time you left Point Place for good and went to Chicago where you met the porn star." Jackie couldn't help, but snap back to him.
Hyde remembered that he left in a fury after he heard from Forman (who heard from Donna) that Jackie was pregnant, and Fez was the father. Before he left, he did punch Fez in the face for what he did to Jackie.
"Natalie's not a porn star. She was a waitress at the Playboy Club. But I came back, didn't I? I just didn't expect for Natalie to hunt me down later only to let me know we're having a kid. Anyway, I left because I was mad." Hyde replied, but not to defend himself.
"I know," Jackie said, being annoyed. "You always do crazy things when you're mad. Then you would regret them later."
It's like Hyde had flashbacks when he dated Jackie back then and had done 'crazy things' to hurt her. Like when he cheated on Jackie with a nurse because of a misunderstanding between Jackie and Kelso or the time he had stupidly married a stripper because of him not wanting to marry her.
"If you hadn't had left, maybe I wouldn't marry Fez!" Jackie said, surprising Hyde. It's the first time he heard that. "When I found out I was pregnant, it's like everything was coming at me so fast. Fez was freaking out and wanted to marry me because he thought that'd be the right thing to do. I was hoping I had another pregnancy scare like I had one with Michael, but unfortunately, I didn't. Then Donna talked to me and said that I shouldn't marry Fez just because I was pregnant, and you know, other feminist stuff. And I thought that she was right because it was at that time, I realized I didn't really love Fez. I didn't want to have a loveless marriage like my parents, and I didn't want to put my children what I went through. The one person I wanted love and support the most was you. I wanted to find you for your help, but Eric told me that you left cause miss blabber mouth told you first before I did," Jackie got a bit emotional when she continued speaking about the memory. "When you left, you have no idea how much that hurt me, Steven. I had no choice, but to marry Fez. I would've still gone back to you if you didn't leave. I know that raising another man's children would be hard, but I believed in you and that you still did love me even after all the crap with Samantha and the other girls you were with. I thought that we could still do it. But then you were gone and so...here we are." She ended weakly and tried not to cry.
"You thought I was mad when I thought you and Kelso screwed each other at that motel, but I was livid when I heard Fez knocked you up. Man, I was so pissed. I punched him in the face for it."
Jackie couldn't help, but to smile at what he did. "You punched Fez in the face for me?" She asked in awe and was touched.
"Wouldn't be the first time I did that." Hyde chuckled.
"Oh, yeah, Veteran's Day," Jackie smiled wider, remembering the holiday. "Some guy called me a bitch and you punched him."
"I never once let go of that beer."
Jackie rolled her eyes. "Pretty impressive."
They chuckled at the memory.
"Natalie was right about one thing," Hyde said after their laugh faded. Jackie was confused. "You can do a lot better than me."
Jackie felt hurt like she's experiencing a stab wound. She didn't want a relationship with Hyde, but thought they can somehow work it out again. If only they could be better friends first. But what he just said, had hurt her to the core.
"Ummm..." Leia muttered and awkwardly cleared her throat. She could feel the tension between the two adults. They suddenly recognized the presence of their niece and goddaughter. "I got the CD for my friend."
"What did you get for DJ?" Jackie asked, snapping out of her feelings to focus on the teenage girl.
"Is this a boy DJ or a girl DJ we're talking about here?" Hyde asked, sounding protective, as he guided the women to the cash register. Leia handed him the CD to pay.
"A boy DJ." Leia clarified.
"Isn't this the same DJ that was here with you and other kids a few weeks ago?" Hyde recalled.
"Yeah, it's the same one."
"He does buy good stuff, so his music taste isn't that bad." He complimented.
"Cause that's what's really important." Jackie said sarcastically. She rolled her eyes and smirked to Leia.
"Guns N' Roses are one of the few new rock bands that doesn't sound like trash or auto tuned to death like Madonna."
"I like Madonna." Jackie defended one of her favorite artists.
"Of course, you would." Hyde muttered as Leia paid for the Guns N' Roses CD.
"Thanks," Leia said and was holding her small Grooves bag. "You knoooowww," She playfully dragged out the word. "My birthday's coming up soon. There's something really big that I want."
"A cat?" Hyde guessed. He knew Leia was a cat lover, but she shook her head with an excited smile.
"New clothes?" Jackie also guessed.
Leia gave her a weird and almost offended look. "N-n-no. What's wrong with my clothes?" She glanced down at her outfit then looked back up at Jackie.
"Oh, nothing. It's just that your outfit is so black. There's nothing wrong wearing bright colors to spice things up a bit."
"Spice things up? She's only fourteen."
"Anyway," Leia got them to notice her before they can argue. "What I want for my birthday is a Walkman, but my parents can't afford it."
Hyde let out a short laugh. "And you think one of us can?"
"If you're a nice aunt and uncle."
"They're, like, two hundred dollars, Leia. Way too expensive."
"Now, you sound like my Dad." She groaned, rolling her eyes.
"Look, if you really want one, why don't you just pay it yourself?" Hyde suggested.
"How?" Leia cluelessly asked. "It's not like I'm walking around with two hundred dollars."
"You can get a job for starters."
"A job?" That was almost laughable and ridiculous to Leia. "Where can I get a job? I'm only fourteen."
"You can try babysitting." Jackie advised.
"Uh, me and kids? I don't know. One time, I babysat a kid and he wouldn't go to sleep and leave me alone. The problem was he got too hyper on sugar. That was a nightmare. Never again. I swear he made me want to get my tubes tied."
Hyde and Jackie burst out into laughter.
"Why don't you work here?" Hyde made another suggestion after him and Jackie stopped laughing. "Aaron does help out, too, and you kids do work well together."
"As long as he doesn't annoy me then I think we can try not to kill each other at work." Leia replied.
"So, you're going to take the job?" Hyde asked seriously.
"I'm going to take the job." She accepted.
"Then you're hired," He declared, making Leia and Jackie smile. "Your first summer job."
"Awesome. So...when do I start?"
"How does next Monday sound?"
"Sounds good."
After the three talked together for a bit, Leia told Jackie that she'll meet her at her car. Leia only walked outside the store first so Jackie can talk alone to Hyde in private.
"That's really nice what you did for Leia." Jackie complimented fondly.
"If she's anything like Forman when it comes to work, then I want to see how long she'll last," Hyde said and they chuckled. "It is good to see you again, Jackie." He added softly, meaning every word.
"You, too."
"And thanks for clearing things up about you with Fez. I honestly had no idea about your side of the story."
"Well, now you know."
"Are you ever coming back?"
"Maybe. Fez is doing great with his beauty salon shop in Chicago so he's going to stay and there may be someone here that needs a dermatologist in Point Place."
"You're thinking of moving back here?"
"Yeah, I have. I thought the city life was for me, but it got old. Fez loves it. I guess I'm just meant to be a small town girl. I know people here. I didn't know anyone in Chicago. That was new and scary for me. I felt like a small fish in a big ocean."
"Moving from a small town to a big city is a huge transition," Hyde said thoughtfully. "It's not so easy to adjust."
"I don't know how the others does it like Donna, Eric, Fez, Michael, and Brooke. They live in the city just fine. It's just me with the problems," Then she admitted softly like in a whisper that Hyde almost didn't hear her. "It's just me without you..."
Hyde didn't quite catch what she said, but won't ask for a repeat incase if he heard wrong.
"Well, I don't want Leia to wait too long outside. I have to take her back to Kitty and Red. Bye, Steven."
"Steven...it's been a long time since I heard you call me that."
"It has, hasn't it?" She contemplated with a smile.
After a short pause, Hyde said. "Bye, Jackie."
Jackie waved at him and he watched her go.
Author's Note: A long chapter for my very long absence. I haven't forgotten or abandoned this story or my other stories. I just took a very long break. If anyone has any ideas for this story, please share. I'd love to have some more ideas because that'll help. I still have my own ideas that I want to do, and I figured out how to end this story, but I can use other people's ideas. By the way, I might have Jackie OOC, but I think she'll be a totally different person as an adult (hopefully) and matured now that she's older. Another reason I feel she's OOC is that Jackie is my least favorite character in this show, so I hope I haven't written her too badly either. I have no idea what her job could be as an adult and figured a dermatologist because I think she talked about having good skincare products before since she can afford them. I'm really curious what they're going to do with Hyde because of the Danny Masterson issue. Hope you guys like this chapter and let me know in the reviews of what you think! Especially, with the long-awaited Hyde and Jackie scene. :)
