"Just a little more push my Lady" the midwife said as she helped Catelyn to push the baby.
Catelyn didn't heed her advise as she was in too much pain, this time the pain was greater than the births of Robb and Sansa.
"The head is visible Lady Stark, just a little more" the midwife said soothingly to her.
"Ahh..." Catelyn screamed in pain as she forced herself. She didn't knew how long she screamed but she screamed till her throat became hoarse.
The midwife along with others quickly took the baby outside and placed him in a new and clean cloth and wrapped it around him.
"How is the child?" Catelyn asked after she took some breaths to calm herself again. She heard the newborn cries and smiled a little.
"He has got a fine set of lungs my Lady" the midwife said as she passed the baby to Lady Stark.
Catelyn took the baby and looked at him, she frowned slightly as this one didn't favoured her in looks unlike Robb and Sansa.
She was going to say something when she felt another contraction, this couldn't be happening, she thought in confusion as the pain returned once again.
The midwives were the first ones to notice with Maester Luwin.
"My Lady, it seems you are having twins" Maester Luwin hurriedly spoke up, worry etching on his old face as he immediately took out another little blanket.
Catelyn's eyes widened at the mention of twins and another pain of contraction hit her.
"Take him" she said as she readied herself for another round of pushing.
Half an hour later, she laid tiredly on the bed as she looked at the set of twins, a boy and a girl. Both the siblings favoured their father strongly looking at the dark brown tufts of hair on their heads and both had the stubborn nature of Starks judging by the difficulty she had in their birth.
She sighed tiredly, the pain and the tiredness caused by the long birth taking a toll on her body.
She wondered about the various northern names she could give as Sansa and Robb were both southern names which were given by her. She felt that it would be suitable that these two would have a northern name for them.
For her daughter, she finally decided on Arya Stark named for Ned's grandmother. For her son, somehow she felt that naming him after Brandon or Ned's father would be nice. She finally decided on Torrhen Stark.
She looked at both of her children who were sleeping peacefully after that had finsihed their wailings. She hoped Ned would return safe and sound. Ned had assured that Balon Greyjoy would be defeated but she still was a little wary and afraid of war. Brandon too had promised her that he will return to marry her and look where it had landed.
She took her mind from Brandon's thoughts, it would not do good if she dwelled on his thoughts.
At that precise moment the door opened and Robb and a little two year old Sansa who was carried by the maid arrived.
"Mother is it true that I have a new sister and brother" he asked excitedly as he jumped towards her.
Catelyn smiled as she ruffled his hair slightly earning a small glare from him.
"Yes, meet your new brother and sister Torrhen and Arya Stark" she said slowly that Robb would grasp the names clearly.
Robb looked at them and his face furrowed up "why are they pink and so small?" he asked confusedly.
Catelyn laughed softly "they are newborn Robb, you too were pink and small like them" she said with a smile.
Robb nodded after a moment of processing her words.
"Ohh" he spoke up as he peeked curiously at the both of them.
Eddard Stark gave a small smile as he spotted Winterfell from a distance. He looked at Jory who was riding with Theon Greyjoy, the Heir of Iron Islands his new ward.
He sighed, why did Robert have to send the boy only with him? he couldn't understand.
He had too much duties and one additional in keeping the Heir of Iron Islands as his ward was too much even for him. Besides the boy looked pretty terrified by the Northmen, not that he would blame the boy as Lord Umber would terrorise anyone with his height and the boisterous talking who had not accustomed to him yet.m
He rode as their party entered Winterfell and he moved down from his horse to greet his Lady wife who was standing with Robb at her side.
"Lord Stark, Winterfell is yours" she said slowly with a bow, the etiquette must be upheld.
He nodded his head "thank you Lady Wife" he said politely as Robb jumped to his leg to embrace him.
He smiled as he picked his eldest son and lifted him up in air.
He turned to Catelyn "Cat this is Theon Greyjoy who is going to be our ward" he informed her with a look after he placed Robb down and pointed to the new addition to their family.
Catelyn understood the look and nodded at him "Heir Greyjoy, welcome to Winterfell" she spoke politely as she looked at the boy of ten years old.
The boy just nodded but didn't said anything, thankfully everything was sorted out and soon the soldiers started to descend one by one to meet their families.
Catelyn asked a maid to show Theon his new room while she accompanied Ned to show him Arya and Torrhen.
They entered the nursery and Ned saw Arya and Torrhen for the first time.
He kissed her on the lips as he mumbled a quiet thank you which warmed her heart.
"What are their names?" he asked to the pair of a boy and girl.
"Our son's name is Torrhen Stark named after your ancestor while our daughter's name is Arya Stark named after your grandmother" Catelyn spoke up as she explained the names of the two new addition to the Stark family.
Ned for his part simply looked at the two of them with warmth in his eyes as he promised inwardly that he will do all he could to protect and keep them safe which he had failed in case of his brothers and sister.
He didn't noticed the stray tear from his eyes but Catelyn did and she smiled at her husband.
Ned may had been not the one she was intended for but he was all she had intended in a husband.
