It's all about the money.
Both are one of the first and greatest inventions of humanity and at the same time cause the most pain, frustration and even death.
After all, there are only two things guaranteed in life. Death and taxes.
In my case, this proverb is so ironic that even I am laughing and treating it as a joke. Even tho taxes were a reason for my death. Well… maybe not exactly, but without a doubt took a huge part of the reason.
And where do I begin with? Oh yes, the very entertaining car accident with three cars, a train and a railway crossing.
This day was as boring as any other day. I woke up, went to work, take care of a few things like shopping and back home.
The train crossing that I have to drive through had a broken barrier. And by broken I mean not snapped in half and shit like this but more like a software problem.
I know, I know… confusing. Allow me to elaborate.
The software that operates the barrier and the signal lights didn't work properly which means that lights didn't light up and barriers were not put down as they should be.
What happened? I honestly have no idea I'm not a fortune-teller. It might have been your typical blue screen, a simple bug or maybe even a virus. But that would most likely mean that it uses one of the most popular OS available on the market and not a custom-made one as it should be, but that would also mean that…
Yes, I'm an IT guy. How did you know?
Anyway, where did I end?
Ah right. So I didn't know that a train is coming and was too trusting in modern technology to look around. In the end, I was hit by a train and lost consciousness.
A few people drove their cars closer, opened the door to the car and the ambulance which arrived just a few seconds before quickly took me to the hospital.
You might think: You said three cars took part in the whole accident!
My car exploded. Fuel leakage or some shit I don't know. I'm not a mechanic. I only know that my car drives and it needs a specific type of fuel for it to work.
I talk too much and get off topic.
So, my car exploded destroying two other cars and killing a few people in the process.
Am I feeling guilty? Hell no. It was their fault. I didn't tell them to come too close to the potentially dangerous vehicle.
Thanks to that I survived? Pfft… It was their choice, not mine. If I died then nothing would have changed anyway and you will know why soon.
In the hospital, I went through surgery and other complicated operations and ended up in a coma.
No one knew when I will wake up or even if I ever will.
My only family member was paying for my… commendations and health care.
The said family member is my mother who in recent years spiralled down into alcoholism after my father left us.
I spent two years there and she never visited. She just silently paid for me and that's all.
Then one day she visited me… Only to fucking kill me because It was too expensive to keep me alive.
Mother of the year I tell ya. I hope that to whatever hell you will go that Satan will fuck your ass until judgment day or whatever it was called.
Then how the hell do I even know that since I was in a coma and died without waking up?
After I died I 'watched' my whole life from 3rd personal perspective. It was kinda fun, to be honest.
"…And then I suddenly appeared here."
I said while sitting on a couch while looking at the man before me.
He is wearing a black suit with a red tie. Has golden-coloured long hair and blue eyes.
While I look at him he starts talking.
"A novel experience I would say. Now I will explain some things to you. Please wait with any questions until I end. OK?"
I nod my head.
"So. Normally you would go to some kind of the afterlife depending on the religion you believe in, what world you lived and stuff like that. But we and by that, I mean other beings like myself, decided to give you a chance. We will give you a system similar to the gamer system but a little modified and set you off to one of many other worlds that we govern. That way you will be able to live again in isekai as many weebs out there always wanted. Now questions."
I take a few seconds to gather my thoughts from the shock and start questioning.
"Which world I will be sent into?"
"Don't know. We haven't decided that yet."
"Will I be able to travel to other worlds?"
"When you become strong enough."
Not If but When huh.
"Will I still be human?"
"The race is random."
Damn it. I don't want to be a squirrel or some fucking cockroach.
"Now the most important question. Why me?"
"We decided that you are the best candidate."
I raised an eyebrow at that.
"To what?"
I'm worried it will be something terrible like exterminating or enslaving the whole race. Oh, wait they are called heroes who typically kill the demon lord and doom the whole demon race.
"A secret. I cannot say."
Risky I say. While tempting it's risky at the same time.
Oh well, I have nothing to lose anyway.
"I accept."
And right after saying that my vision goes blank.
? POV
"So it all begins."
I heard my friend nearby me say with a sigh.
He is an almost four meters tall giant man with an appearance at the same time terrifying and regal. There were cases of low-ranked gods going insane from being too close to him.
"To be honest it was a very weird encounter."
The giant laughs a little.
"Yeah. I bet it was. The time here doesn't work at all. It's completely separated from any world in existence and that means that such phenomena can happen."
I smile at that.
"So in some time, we will both meet each other."
"I gotta say that even after those millions of years and the fact that I can easily destroy whole worlds I still look around in fear while crossing a street. It's funny, to be honest. Literally, Death itself is afraid of fucking trains. Hahaha"
