Within seconds Nightwing was above the building closest to the jewelry store and inspected the surrounding area for the thief. After finding nothing he decided to climb directly onto the jewelry store. Once on the roof he momentarily froze.
There waiting for him was a slender female figure wearing a tight-fitting black jumpsuit accompanied by a pair of spy glasses with red lenses that partially covered her eyes, although for Nightwing it was useless since he already knew them very well.
She wore a choker with a cat-shaped pendant around her neck. Her suit includes a zipper and sports a cat symbol on the upper back. She also wore black cat-clawed gloves and black high-heeled boots.
She also had a pair of cat ears on his head and a long black cat tail. Like Nightwing, she wore a black belt equipped with a whip (her signature weapon) and a few other things.
She was inspecting a necklace made entirely of diamonds and had not noticed that the vigilante was standing a few feet away from her.
"Catwoman!" growled the hero.
The young criminal quickly raised her head, recognizing the voice without any doubt, and indeed it was her prey calling her. From behind her red lenses her eyes lit up and she raised her glasses above her head.
Masked eyes met familiar green eyes (and beautiful ones at that, but Nightwing would never admit it even if a gun was pointed at his head) that lit up as soon as they saw the young hero. Catwoman stopped checking the necklace and placed it in one of her pockets.
"Look what we have here if it isn't quite the pretty kitten!" purred the thief as she stopped two feet from the boy.
Nightwing raised an eyebrow under his mask as he ignored a strange feeling of warmth stirring in his chest. "What are you doing here in Bludhaven besides stealing from this jewelry store?"
"What, I can't stop by and say hello to my favorite kitty?" asked the young thief innocently.
"In case you've gone blind, I'm not Batman."
And thankfully! Oops...sorry Bruce.
Catwoman adorably tilted ( Nightwing just thought that?) her head to the side and gave a mischievous smirk. "And who ever said Batman was my favorite kitty?" the vigilante was run through by a series of involuntary shivers and a growing sensation still oblivious to him. "Besides if you hadn't noticed yet he's too old for me."
At that last statement the hero chuckled.
Sorry Bruce part two
"What about all that interest you showed in him?"
Catwoman smiled coquettishly. "Once again, are you sure it was aimed at him?"
Nightwing's masked eyes went wide as the realization hit him harder than a brick wall.
What the fu- no, it can't be...but why would she...calm down Dick, this is her game. Don't fall for this little trick.
Batman's former protégé shook his head to clear his head. "It doesn't matter if you want to win Batman or me or anyone else with your flirtation. What matters now is that you give me the necklace and I can consider not taking you to jail." he gave her an innocent smile.
The thief put on a fake pout.
She is so cute when- NO DICK! DON'T YOU DARE END THAT THOUGHT!
"I came here specifically to see you again and this is how you repay me pretty kitty?"
"The last time you saw me was three weeks ago in Gotham. Not to mention all the previous meetings." casually remarked Nightwing.
"True but you're always in the company of either those pesky little birds or the gruff bat." the hero chuckled. "There's never been a situation where it was just the two of us, pretty bird." at this last statement, Catwoman put her hands on her hips and moved them sensuously.
Nightwing, despite himself (but not even that much), shifted his eyes to see the woman's graceful movement and unknowingly bit his lip. He would be lying to himself if he said he never had any inadequate thoughts or dreams about the young thief before him.
Catwoman smiled when she saw the young hero's attention waver and was honestly honored. It was not every day to observe the great Nightwing looking appreciatively at your body. At that moment even her attention was not quite focused as she looked closely at the vigilante's physique.
What muscles...meow!
"I bet you never noticed," the thief's voice brought him back to look at her sparkling green eyes. "-that I steal something from Gotham only when you are present too."
His blue eyes hidden behind the mask widened as he recognized the truth behind those words.
Why the hell had I never noticed? But then, Bruce didn't come to this realization either. I swear I'm so confused about his actions that I wouldn't be surprised if I get a severe headache later on.
"What kind of game are you playing Catwoman?!" asked Nightwing in a firm voice, tilting his head to the side with white eyes narrowing at the thief.
He truly hated not being aware of what surrounded him.
Catwoman smiled, her eyes twinkling dangerously. "It's up to you to find out, pretty kitty."
The former Boy Wonder clenched his jaw in frustration. "All right, right now I don't care. What I am interested in is the necklace you stole. Give it back or I'll take it back with my strength. Last warning." he tried a slightly more intimidating tactic instead even though he knew it would have no effect on the woman.
Secretly Catwoman loved how Nightwing looked captivating and beautiful at the same time even as he threatened her. "Captivating and sexy! I like it, meow!"
The thief smiled mischievously as she saw Nightwing, Batman's first protégé, blushing furiously while inside she was surprised but genuinely happy that somehow her words had triggered such a reaction from the vigilante. As she said her words the girl felt a strange but warm feeling inside her and liked it.
But apparently Nightwing had had enough of the games as he lunged toward the thief who avoided him. The two threw punches and kicks at each other but were all blocked and could not find the right opportunity to succeed in hitting their opponent.
Catwoman noticed that Nightwing was not using either the escrima sticks or other gadgets, so to balance things out she did not pull out her whip.
The battle continued for a few minutes without any interruption. Neither was fighting to their maximum capacity but both were unable to overpower the other. Only the shallow breaths of the two could be heard in the air and the sound of punches and kicks being blocked over and over again.
The two had a rather similar fighting style: they were both agile, fast and flexible but at the same time strong and tough. Nightwing, having been raised in the circus, fought with somersaults and other fantastic acrobatic moves demonstrating his flexibility. Unfortunately for him, however, Catwoman was very adept at dodging blows and then counterattacking.
They both neutralized each other until Catwoman caused the vigilante to lose his balance and he fell with his back facing the ground and the thief got on top of him locking his wrists.
After the impact Nightwing opened his eyes and found himself momentarily out of breath. Catwoman's face was just inches from his, and he could smell her scent. He had to admit it was sweet and intoxicating at the same time. The thief's green eyes showed obvious mischief but there was something else there, something the hero could not identify.
He had to make an enormous effort to keep eye contact intact and not lower his eyes to the inviting form of the woman above him, even though they were masked. Somehow he anticipated that Catwoman would know where he was looking, mask or no mask.
If Batman learned of this situation...
Catwoman kept her eyes on the masked ones of the boy beneath him for a few minutes before she smiled and broke the silence. "We both know that you are easily able to free yourself from this position. Now my question is this: why aren't you doing it?"
For some strange reason the answer came out of his mouth before he even thought of how to answer. "Maybe because I'm enjoying the view."
Nightwing froze. Had he just...flirted with Catwoman?
Good Lord. Bruce, if you hear about this (and I sure hope not for goodness sake!), please don't kick my ass the next time I visit the manor. It would also be hypocritical of you given your past relationship with Talia.
The acrobat could read surprise and disbelief in the woman's eyes. She had not expected that kind of response either.
After the stunned moment passed, a mischievous smirk spread across the thief's face. "I didn't know the pretty kitty had a thing for naughty girls. You make me honored to be the first, meow!"
Nightwing wanted to answer her. He really wanted to answer her by telling her that he had no weakness for that kind of woman but suddenly found himself with a dry throat.
"A guy of few words huh? I didn't think you were so shy beautiful bird! But I bet the necklace I just stole that you are not so shy in bed, on the contrary! Meow!" she smiled in amusement when she saw the hero's face heat up for the second time that night causing him to babble nonsensical sentences.
She had made Nightwing, the vigilante who could be as scary as Batman (if not more so) if he wanted to be, blush twice in a matter of minutes! She had to admit to herself that he was so cute when he was shy and awkward! Now that pleasant feeling she had felt before was expanding. She absolutely had to understand what it was all about but at that moment she was simply enjoying the situation.
Meanwhile, the former Boy Wonder's thoughts had gone haywire.
I can't believe she made me blush TWICE and stutter like an idiot struggling with his crush. Wait-no, bad simile Dick, bad simile. What would Batman say if he saw you in this situation? He would probably send me to jail along with Catw- ENOUGH! Pull yourself together Richard John Grayson-Wayne!
He took a deep breath to concentrate and just when he decided it was the right time to catch her off guard and get her away from him (also to prevent him from saying or doing something he would regret) she tightened her grip on his wrists and was surprisingly strong. "I don't want you to get out of this position. Not yet at least." when he looked at her grimly she continued. "What? You're not the only one enjoying the view, pretty kitty!" she purred.
The vigilante tried hard not to blush but did nothing to push her away. "I swear you will pay for what you are putting me through Catwoman!"
The thief gave a mischievous smirk and moved closer to the hero's face. Nightwing's heart lost a few beats as she slowly approached as he never took his attention away from the woman's charming green eyes. He was able to smell her scent even more closely, which was stunning him.
Catwoman brought her lips close to his ear, and Nightwing could hear her breath blowing softly making him shiver and it certainly wasn't frost.
"I can easily pay you back, pretty kitty. Just take me to the bed in your apartment and that's it. If you want for me it would be fine up here too, although we run the risk of someone hearing us, meow!" then she moved a few inches away and snapped her cat claws bringing them gently to the hero's face, careful not to hurt him.
She ran her claws over his handsome face for a few seconds before she leaned down and gently kissed his cheek, holding back for about three seconds before removing the contact of her lips from his cheek. Afterwards she rose from on top of him and ran away putting her spy glasses back on, still having the diamond necklace with her.
To say that Nightwing was stunned was an understatement. He still remained lying on the roof, his heart accelerating so fast that for a moment he thought he was going to have a heart attack and briefly forgot how to breathe. He could not think logically.
No woman made him feel so dizzy!
None!
He rose slowly to his feet. Once on his feet he absentmindedly brought a hand to his cheek and remembered the contact of her soft lips against his cheek, making him shiver one more time.
He stood there on the roof of the jewelry store for a few minutes when the communicator in his ear buzzed.
"Oracle to Nightwing."
Nightwing ignored the call. He was still too stunned to answer. He kept going over in his mind what had happened.
The communicator continued to ring, he could hear Barbara's voice speaking into his ear but could not understand the words. He kept slowly stroking his cheek that had been kissed. He awoke from his daze when he heard a deep but at the same time comfortable voice speak.
"Nightwing can you hear me?" it was Batman's voice. He could not ignore him as he did with Barbara and turned on his communicator.
"Yes Batman. I hear you loud and clear." he marveled when he found he had not stuttered.
Maybe Batman taught him too well but it didn't matter.
"Are you okay?" he was concerned. Oracle probably informed him that he had not answered her and had worried his father. He found himself feeling slightly guilty.
"Yes I'm fine. Don't worry."
He could hear a slight sigh of relief. "Oracle told me you would probably run into Catwoman. Did you catch her?"
Just hearing the thief's name almost sent his brain into a tailspin, but he couldn't afford it. He had to answer right away to prevent Batman from becoming suspicious. He hated lying to his adoptive father who had raised him since he was eight years old but he could not answer him with No because I was flirting with her and lost the ability to think when she kissed my cheek.
No, he couldn't.
"I'm sorry Batman but I couldn't catch her. She stole a diamond necklace and that was it."
His answer was followed by silence and he was suddenly afraid that or he had been disappointed in him (the worst feeling he could feel) or he had found out his lie because he is, well, Batman.
"...Don't worry Nightwing. I know full well how devious she can be."
Oh, you have no idea...
"You've got your brothers worried, even though they'll never admit it, you know that?" the words beyond me were understated.
His guilt was rising. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to worry you."
"Why didn't you answer Oracle?"
He froze. How the hell was he supposed to answer?
Think Richard think!
"...I was fighting with Catwoman. I didn't want to be distracted for a second. I thought if I didn't respond maybe I would be able to catch her but I wasn't. I know I shouldn't have acted like that and worry you unnecessarily. It will never happen again. I'm sorry."
"...It's okay."
He was sure Batman had noticed his slight hesitation; after all, they didn't call him the world's best detective for nothing.
"See you on Saturday. Batman out."
And with that, communication disconnected.
Nightwing ran a hand over his face, confused and annoyed by all the events that happened that night. And still the patrol was not over! There were still about three hours to go.
As he continued to patrol, his only thought was:
No woman has made me feel so dizzy.
