Chapter Two
(Moana's POV)
After Becky's parents go out for a few hours, Becky, Mom, Dad and I head to the house we scheduled a tour at.
After touring the house, Mom and Dad look at Becky and me for approval.
"We love it." Becky and I say together.
"Great. Just put down an offer and we'll contact you soon." Dad puts down an offer for the house, and we head back to Becky's former parents' house.
"So...what are we going to do when the week is up?" Becky asks.
"We'll head to a hotel with your things."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be. You're family, and family means no one gets left behind or forgotten. Your former parents are so wrong to have disowned you, and we're so sorry it's come to this." Dad tells Becky.
"Thank you, Tui. So much."
It's then an idea strikes me, and I kneel in front of Becky.
"Moana, what are you doing?" Becky asks me.
"Becky...Rebekah. I love you with my whole heart, and I want to legally and officially spend the rest of our lives together. Will you marry me?"
"Yes, Moana! Yes, I'll marry you!"
Becky and I have our first kiss as an engaged couple.
"I may not have a ring, but..." I start.
"I don't care. Our love for each other is enough." Becky whispers lovingly.
We kiss again as my parents look on, happy that the two of us are finally together.
We head to the hotel with Becky's things in tow in our car (she packed everything since we don't have anything).
When we get to the hotel, we settle in in our room, Becky and I on one bed and my parents on the other.
"Now, Becky, you know more about this area than we do. Care to direct us to a place for dinner?" Mom asks.
We head to a little restaurant for dinner, and I can tell Becky's nervous to eat.
"Take your time, my love." I whisper to her, running my thumb across her hand as she eats.
We soon finish eating, and my parents take us out for ice cream, which we thoroughly enjoy.
When we get back to the hotel, Becky heads to the bathroom.
When she gets out, I can tell she's been crying.
"We'll give you two a few minutes." Mom says. She and Dad leave as I lead Becky to our bed so I can hold her as she cries. It's breaking my heart that her parents have done this to her.
"Honey, if you want to elope, I have no problem with that."
"I really wanted to have the experience of picking out my wedding dress. But that seems impossible now."
"I know Mom and Dad would have no problem paying for your dress as well as mine. Shall we let them know and make an appointment at a bridal shop? We don't have to go all out with our dresses, but I want you to have that experience of choosing your dress."
"You don't mind?"
"Of course not, my sweetheart."
"Thank you, Moana. You have no idea how much this means to me."
"Great. We'll let my parents know and we can make an appointment. Is there anyone that you want there?"
"Not really. I mean, I want my grandma there, but she's not strong enough to go anywhere yet."
"I see. Well, we've got some time. I'm sure we could just wait until then."
"Are you certain, Moana?"
"Hey, as long as I have you, I don't care how long we'll have to wait."
My parents come back in, smiles on their faces.
"What?" I ask.
"We got the house! We'll get the keys in a few days!"
"That's great!" I exclaim, and I smile when I see my fiancée smile as well.
We get the keys to our new home a few days later, and we settle in after unpacking some of Becky's stuff – and our newly acquired furniture.
The first night we're in our house, at around midnight, I wake up to my fiancée sobbing next to me.
"Baby? Becky, are you alright?"
"...No."
"What is it, baby?"
"It hurts."
"What hurts, honey?"
"My right side."
"Oh, no. Mom! Dad!"
Luckily, Mom and Dad's room is right across from us, so they come rushing in.
"Moana? What is it?"
"It's Becky...she got her fear."
"We'd better get her to the hospital." Delicately, Dad picks up Becky in his arms, and she clings to him, her breaths labored and short.
On the way to the hospital, Mom drives and Dad and I are in the backseat, trying to keep Becky calm.
I sing "Know Who You Are" to her, over and over again, until we arrive at the emergency room.
Someone takes Becky from my dad and places her on a gurney.
As she's wheeled off to the OR, I can only look on in fear and in worry. I collapse on my knees and Mom approaches me, telling me Becky's going to be okay.
How does she know that? How does Mom know that the love of my life will survive one of her biggest fears?
~.~
It's been almost an hour since we arrived, since Becky was wheeled into the OR.
Soon, a doctor approaches us, asking for Rebekah's family.
I approach the doctor, nervous and anxious to know how my girl is doing.
"How is she?"
"She's going to be just fine. She'll be in recovery for a while, but after she's moved to her room, I'll have someone let you know when so you can see her."
"Thank you so much."
"You're welcome."
"Doctor?"
"Yes?"
"Were there any complications with the procedure?"
"No. She did beautifully with the surgery, and she'll be able to go home in about a week."
"Okay. Thank you."
"You're welcome."
The doctor leaves the waiting room and I collapse into a chair, relieved that my sweetheart will be alright.
Soon, a nurse comes by to tell us that Becky's been moved to her room and to lead us there.
Once we get to her room, the nurse tells us to press the call button if Becky needs anything. I tell her "thank you". When my parents and I walk into the hospital room, Becky looks so peaceful, sleeping soundly.
I approach my sleeping fiancée gingerly, and sit next to her in a chair. I gently take her hand and I eventually fall asleep.
When I wake up, Becky is awake, too, with a small smile on her face.
"Hey. Hey, baby. How are you feeling?"
"Okay. I was so scared, Moana. So scared I was going to be taken away from you."
"Shhh. You're okay, and that's all that matters, ku'u ipo aloha."
Becky manages to smile a small smile at me and my words of love and comfort.
"Hey there. How's our favorite daughter-in-law doing?"
"I'm your only daughter-in-law, Tui, and I'm not even that yet."
"That may be true, but you are still family."
A week later, Becky is able to go home.
And, thus, wedding planning begins.
We may just be eloping, but we do want to wait and have Becky's grandma there when she picks out her wedding dress, and when I pick out mine. We're going to film the elopement and send it to Becky's family members who would like to see it.
Soon, with Becky's grandma in tow, we head to David's Bridal for our very first wedding dress shopping appointment.
