On the way back to the tower Peter could feel himself wanting to shut his eyes. He forced himself to stay awake as he held onto Natasha as they swerved in and out of traffic on her motorcycle towards Stark Tower.
"How are you doing back there kid?" Natasha's voice asked in his helmet speaker.
"Hanging in there Nat. Mostly trying to keep my eyes open," Peter admitted.
"We will be there soon. Tell me if you need to switch spots, okay," She said with a hint of worry.
Peter wasn't sure at first, because of the haze in his head, but now he could really feel his spider sense going off.
"Nat," Pete said urgently, "There's something wrong."
"What's wrong Pete?" Natasha whipped her head towards him, catching the only other motorcycle bobbing in and out of traffic with them.
"I think we have company," Peter said weakly.
"I see him," Natasha told him, "Hold on."
Feeling Peter's grip on her tighten, she accelerated bobbing and weaving faster as the other rider followed her lead.
"Tony?" Natasha called into her com.
"Nat what's wrong?" Tony had already landed at the tower and was playing her communication on speaker for everyone in the room.
"I have a shadow," Natasha told him.
"I'm coming back," Tony said, going to take off again.
"No need, I'm one minute away, just be ready to receive me," Natasha told them.
"We'll be ready," Steve told her, grabbing his shield as they went down to the front grounds.
One minute felt like an eternity to Natasha. She knew that Peter would not be able to help much in a fight at his current state. On the other hand there seemed to be only one rider, and she had been in tighter situations before.
The tower entrance was in view just as another rider appeared nearly bumping into them. The riders were in all black riding gear and a black helmet as they rode up and tried to kick their motorcycle to crash them.
If Peter's head wasn't pounding he would have thought to do more than just hang on. He turned to look at the rider who was behind them just as they had started to get closer. Natasha kicked the rider on her right enough to push them behind them right as she reached the tower.
Bucky and Steve waited for Natasha and Peter to get through the gate before clothes lining the two pursuers off their bikes.
The two men scrambled to their feet grabbing their side arms and starting to shoot at the two heros. Captain Rogers deflected the bullets with his shield enough to create an opening for Bucky to take a swing at one of the riders effectively knocking them down and the pistol thrown free from his hands. The other rider was backing away while throwing cover fire and ran for it.
"Looks like it's just you there pal," Bucky told him, fists at the ready.
The rider looked around as though for an escape route before a shot rang out and the rider dropped. The other rider who had taken off was now on the back of another motorcycle and zooming off into the busy streets.
"What was all that about?" Steve asked, to no one in particular.
"I'm not sure but I don't like it," Bucky said as they closed the gate to the grounds.
Inside Natasha had driven right into the building to make sure Peter could get off the bike safely.
"Are you alright Peter?" Natasha asked, parking her bike and helping Peter off.
"I'm good," Peter was still unsteady on his feet, "I think one of those guys was the one who tried to hurt Mr. Osborn."
"What makes you think that Peter?" Natasha asked, surprised by the comment.
"When you were trying to get the second rider, I saw the one behind us try and grab a syringe," Peter explained, "Well it could have been anything I guess, but I just thought maybe-"
"Don't dismiss it yet kid," Natasha cut off his ramble, "Good catch."
"Thanks," Peter Paused, "Do you think they were after me?"
"There's a good possibility Pete," Natasha affirmed, helping him walk.
"Great," Peter sighed as they entered the elevator.
Coming into the main living area Tony was buzzing, watching the security cameras and trying to watch where the biker who got away was going. He slammed his fist down on the table in front of him as a truck had blocked his view and the camera angles lost track of him.
"Tony?" Steve asked, gaining his attention.
"He got away," Tony told the group as they entered.
"The other one had nothing on him," Bucky told them.
"When we were riding Pete got a glimpse of one of them pulling out a syringe," Natasha informed them.
"I think he could be the same man who tried to get to Mr. Osborn," Peter told them.
"Height checks out," Bucky said thinking back to the security camera footage.
"Okay, but who are they?" Natasha asked.
"Steve and I noticed something strange Norman had in that lab of his," Bucky told them, as they all turned to hear what they had found.
"Behind him in the room he was being attacked. Norman had what looked like a supersoldier table," Steve told them.
"Are you sure?" Tony asked, rubbing his chin at the news.
"Positive. Bucky and I noticed it right away," Steve told them.
"The nurse had said they were working on experimental gasses for the military," Natasha thought aloud.
"You think the military is funding Osborn to make the supersoldier formula?" Peter asked.
"Pete, you may know Harry as a friend, but Norman and I have been rivals for many years," Tony started, " He is a snake in the grass and would do anything to beat us in the market. So I wouldn't put that past him."
Peter felt sick, he didn't know what to think. On one hand he could see that being plausible but on the other he knew them. Didn't he?
"If they are working on the supersoldier serum, then they could be in danger," Steve announced.
"If word got to Hydra they could be trying to steal his research," Bucky added.
"Dammit Osborn, what a mess you made," Tony said to himself rubbing his eyebrows and pacing.
"Peter let's get you down to Bruce to get checked out," Natasha told him.
Peter didn't argue, just let her guide him down to the med bays. He was tired and confused and a little hurt by today's events.
A/N: Is Hydra on the move? could it be someone new? What has Norman been working on really?
Hope you've enjoyed this chapter!
