Unexpected

It was peaceful in the shack. Everyone was asleep - including Harry, surrounded by the colourful sunrise of the island. Stars were dispersed among the sky, it was truly beautiful; you could look at it for hours without even being bored, discovering new colours you had never seen before along the way, all available to you just by simply looking up.

CRASH

The doors to the shack flung open, revealing a figure that was shadowed by the dark sky. Neville sprung up from his slumber, unable to tell if he was still dreaming.

"Wha-" He finally said, after being shocked to the core.

"Alright, Nev! I have to take your spare room, don't mind me!" The figure exclaimed.

Neville put the heels of his hands to his eyes, trying to catch his bearings. Suddenly, his head shot up, realising who he was actually dealing with. "No, no, no!" He protested while running after them, still in his pyjamas.

As they both got there, Neville put his arm up to the door, to stop the person from going in. "You can't go in there!" He said, trying to whisper-shout.

"Why not?" The figure said, folding their arms. "Just let me in!"

Jane had been awoken by the exchange, despite Neville's attempts to be quiet. Confused, she eased herself off her bed and opened the door. "What the hell is-" She stopped herself, now noticing a woman was standing at the door, looking quite annoyed. "Oh... hello?" Jane didn't know what to make of the situation, as it was definitely something she wasn't expecting at 3 o'clock in the morning.

"Who's this? The woman said, still folding her arms. "She's a bit young for you, Nev! Anyway, I was expecting you to get with a man by now."

Neville's jaw had hit the floor and was infinitely embarrassed. Quickly, he grabbed the woman's arm and pulled her to the side, to hopefully resolve this horrifying situation. Jane was left at the door, dumbfounded by the exchange.

"Izzy! For god's sake, please-" Neville was promptly interrupted.

"English too! How did you get someone like that at your house in the Caribbean? You surprise me every day, Neville Parker!"

"Izzy... please stop talking." He closed his eyes and put his hand on his forehead, wishing that he was sound asleep in his bed and still dreaming of sweet nothings. "The person in my spare room is Jane, my new officer. We were put as roommates, so if you could please stop assuming that we are a... 'thing', I would highly appreciate it! He continued, slightly hysterical.

"Oh! That's her?" Izzy paused, now realising that her demand of having the spare room would not be granted. "How am I going to stay here now if the spare room is used?"

"Why do you even need to stay here? Do you know what time of day it is?"

"There was a bug infestation in my room, I have to stay out of the house for a bloody week! So I came to my big brother, problem?"

"Yes, there's a problem! You can't just barge into my house in the middle of the night and expect to be served!" Neville couldn't believe this was happening to him, why did it have to happen now?

He always knew Izzy would come back to haunt him but not this soon. She had settled down in her own place after deciding that she would stay in Saint Marie to have her pregnancy. Izzy had stayed at the shack before, starting parties and trashing the place - which Neville definitely did not appreciate.

She was quite the opposite of him, Izzy was extroverted, loud and not afraid of the world. She had always been surprised that Neville had come to the Caribbean as, unlike Neville, she was not cursed by the number of allergies and sensitivities he had. She admired his dedication to the island, however, and had known that he struggled even in his home town of Manchester. Their mother had shielded him from the outside world, which would explain why the pair were so different. But ultimately, Izzy had come to Neville for support earlier in the year, even if she didn't want to admit that.

"Look, I'll just get a hotel, thanks for nothing!" Izzy growled, storming off the veranda.

Jane saw the 'mysterious woman' had left the property and approached Neville. "So... what was that about?" She said, still very confused.

Neville took a deep breath in, preparing himself. "That was my sister, unfortunately."

"You have a sister? I had no idea!" Jane said, surprised. "What did she want?"

"Oh, it doesn't matter, really. All I know now is that she's gone, and hopefully won't bother us for a while." Neville sighed as exhaustion overwhelmed him. "I think I just want to go back to bed, I'm knackered." He looked up and could see that Jane was concerned for him. "It'll be alright." He added, almost trying to reassure himself at the same time.

"Alright, well, goodnight, Sir." Jane said, still slightly worried for her boss.

"Goodnight, Jane." He said, with a wave, trying to keep his eyes open.

Neville collapsed onto his bed, hoping the day could be over already. But it had only just started.
