Kara glanced around the darkened hut. Night had fallen, Lila was asleep, and Kara was disoriented.

What had happened? She hadn't moved, and her whole body hurt.

"I have to get out of here," Kara said softly.

"What?" Lila stirred from the floor. "Where's Daniel?"

Kara gave her mother a sad look.

"I don't know."

Kara stood up, and crept to the door. She carefully opened the door and stepped outside.

"I knew there were some I missed."

A gun barrel pressed cold against her neck. Kara inhaled sharply.

"Is there anyone else inside the building."

It wasn't a question. This man knew that someone was inside.

"Yes." Kara fought to keep her voice even. The gun barrel was eased away from her neck. A wave of nausea washed over her, and she clamped a hand over her mouth. She turned slowly to face her attacker.

A man, wearing all black, down to gloves, blonde hair and glasses stared back at her.

Kara cast her eyes to the ground, and began to study the wood grain.

"You know who I am, don't you?"

Kara nodded, keeping her lips sealed tight. She clenched her jaw.

"Anger never accomplishes anything, I hope you know that."

"Maybe I do, maybe I don't, and maybe you get to be the unfortunate soul who gets to find out."

Her hazel eyes flashed in the darkness.

"There's another inside, bring her out," The man called to one of the terrorists. The other man climbed the steps, kicked the door open and dragged Lila out. Lila called out to Kara, but she did not respond.

Kara only watched silently, and the man watched her.

"I didn't want to come here to be disappointed, and I was not. Welcome to the Syndicate, Kara Reed."
