She is OVERLORD

Four

As they neared where the mages were hiding, Kobayashi addressed the soldiers following her. "If you want to live, stay well back. I suspect your buddies over there are not happy you got captured," she told them flatly. Her 'Undead Valkyrie' build had an automatic intimidation effect, and the men visibly wilted.

"Y... yes," the lead soldier stammered.

Londes was... trying his best to cope with all this. This whole mission had bothered him from the start. There was no honor in wiping out villages, and he could only justify it knowing the nobility of their cause. But their sudden and overwhelming defeat had shaken his faith,

"Hiiii!" Kobayashi waved, "I think these belong to you."

There was a long beat of silence, then the mages of the Sunlit Scripture moved, swiftly summoning up Archangel Flames. The angular, glowing beings served whomever summoned them, and were powerful against human fighters.

Londes watched as several rushed the poor woman, stabbing her. 'She's done for...' he thought a little sadly. Then he realized she was still standing there as the Archangels attacked, swinging and stabbing with no effect.

"Automatic resistance to low level damage comes in handy," Kobayashi noted calmly. Then she easily grabbed an Archangel in each hand and slammed them together, both dissolving into sparkles.

"How...?" Londes gaped.

The tall man in black clothes that had been guarding them smiled faintly. "That is our Mistress. She is capable of far more then this," Sebas said calmly.

Dozens of Archangels were set charging in, and Kobayashi casually gripped a strange, pointed spear that appeared from nowhere. She cried out, "Chooser of the Slain!" and swung, then a wave of pure blackness simply... wiped out all the attacking archangels. Completely.

Londes wondered if you could just become numb to surprise. The panicking mages began to unleash random spells, which shockingly didn't even seem to reach them at all.

The strange, eerily beautiful black haired woman addressed Kobayashi, "Master, let me handle the rest. These opponents are clearly not worthy to fight you."

"If we go by that, nothing so far has been worthy," Kobayashi answered jokingly.

As they were talking, a larger angel advanced, then attacked with a huge mace. The other woman just... caught the weapon on her palm. Casually, like you'd stop a bug.

"May I, mistress?" she asked Kobayashi.

"Certainly. Go ahead," Kobayashi waved.

Londes watched as the black haired woman casually forced the huge Angel back, took a MASSIVE black axe she carried and killed it with just one mighty swing.

"..." Londes just couldn't say anything, at that point.

Nigun, leader of the Sunlit Scripture, was trying not to fall into panic. The Archangel Flames SHOULD have been able to kill this woman easily And he had never encountered an ability that prevented all injury from attack.

(It was especially galling that she classified their attacks as 'low level.' They were an elite unit! They were POWERFUL by any standard! How could this be happening?)

Then she just... destroyed ALL their Archangels in ONE ATTACK. It was simply impossible. No one he had ever encountered had done that!

And the OTHER woman just destroyed his Principality of Observation. It was a moderately powerful entity, it should have been able to do SOMETHING. Instead she just casually stopped it cold, then easily cut it down.

Even more frightening, there was a third figure there. Who knows what he could do? Was he waiting to unleash even more mayhem?!

"Sir! Our spells are having no effect!" a panicked minion reported.

"I know," Nigun tried not to snarl. The only thing left to try was the trump card, given to him by his superiors. From within his tunic he drew out a huge, glowing crystal, "Hold them off a few moments, and I will summon the most powerful angel!"

"Yes sir!" the now hopeful soldier hurried back to battle.

"These are all spells from Yggdrasil. How could they know them?" Kobayashi muttered to herself quietly.

"Master?" Albedo wondered.

"Nothing, nothing," Kobayashi waved that off as they saw the man pull the crystal from his tunic. "Huh. A Summoning Crystal." she noted.

"Is that going to be a problem, Master?" Sebas asked. He then calmly offered, "I could just go over and smash it."

Kobayashi knew he literally could just rush over and smash it, too. "No, it's fine," she said, "I'm curious to see what it'll do."

Albedo hesitated but asked, "But what if it could hurt you? Not that anything in this place could harm a Great One, but..."

"I trust you two to protect me," Kobayashi replied casually.

Albedo's eyes widened a bit, then she blushed a little. Beside her, Sebas stood up straighter, then nodded slightly.

"Besides, if it's really bad I can just teleport us all out," Kobayashi added reasonably.

Both companions kind of deflated at that.

Kobayashi didn't really notice that as she watched the leader casting. "Here it comes..," she murmured thoughtfully.

"Come forth... Dominion Authority!" the man yelled as a huge, multi-winged angel materialized above and in front of them. It had a shining holy symbol that floated in front of it, and carried a huge golden sceptre.

Several of the captive soldiers gasped in awe, as the three stood silent.

"You're STUNNED by the power of my angel!" the man gloated. "It's understandable! This is a power that can bind demons and rival GODS!" he cackled. He smiled cruelly, "If you surrender now, I will kill you quickly with no pain."

"That's... just SO lame," Kobayashi shook her head disbelievingly. She had been worried about something this minor?

"What," the man started. "You're bluffing. You HAVE to be bluffing," he said, indignant. "Dominion Authority! SMITE THEM!" he ordered.

The staff dissolved into glowing sparkles, circling the angel. Power built up, then was released in a destructive burst that engulfed Kobayashi.

"Ha!" the man cheered as waves of force buffeted them all.

Then Kobayashi chuckled.

"WHAT." he yelped.

"So this is pain," a mostly unharmed Kobayashi noted. "I'm actually taking damage." She paused, "What a rush!"

"Master!" Sebas yelped, actually alarmed as the attack cut out.

"It's fine," the slightly smoking Kobayashi reassured them, "My auto regeneration is already fixing it. That was... seventh tier magic, I think. Interesting."

"You dared hurt our Master..." Albedo didn't even finish the sentence, her body visibly contorting in rage. "HOW DARE YOU..."

"ENOUGH," Kobayashi ordered, stopping Albedo from just charging them and tearing the mages apart.

"Master, I...," Albedo started.

Kobayashi strode forward towards the angel, carrying her spear. "I guess it's my turn now?" she wondered aloud.

The leader of the enemy was clearly shell shocked. His most powerful weapon had failed, and all the magic spells his men cast were utterly useless. What more could happen?

"GRIM REAPER!" Kobayashi yelled out one of her insta-kill attacks, and stabbed the angel. It went pitch black, froze, then just crumbled into nothingness.

"..." the leader gaped, frozen.

"You're sending us HOME?!" Lobdes asked, stunned.

They had rounded up the members of the Sunlit Scripture and put them with the soldiers. Their leader, Nigun, appeared to have had a complete breakdown. He just stared into the distance and twitched oddly.

Londes added flatly, "You know they'll kill us for our failure."

Kobayashi gave him a flat look, reminding him of what he and his fellows had done, and Lobdes wilted a bit.

"Maybe yes, maybe no," Kobayashi said. "Tell them about us. About what we can DO. And tell your superiors in the Slane Theocracy to no longer attack the border villages."

Londes had to ask, "Why?"

"Because they are now under the protection of the Empire of Ainz Ooal Gown," Kobayashi told him. "Trouble us at your peril."

Because Kobayashi wasn't stupid, she cast a fourth level 'geas' spell on all of them, to make sure they went as ordered. She felt a twinge sending them to their likely deaths... but it was justice too. They had destroyed more than one yillage full of innocents.

"Why not just kill them all?" Albedo asked as they headed back to Carne Village.

"We could have," Kobayashi admitted, "but it seemed pointless. They're too weak to bother with." And they had questioned the mages on where they had learned their magic: all they knew was it came from the founders of the Theocracy.

"Master," Sebas asked, "pardon the question: but why are now the Empire Ainz Ooal Gown?"

"A empire is only fitting for the glory of the Great Ones!" Albedo noted loyally.

"That, and I want the name 'Ainz Ooal Gown' to spread," Kobayashi said. "If other members of the guild are here, I want them to know Nazarick is too."

"I see!" Albedo nodded in realization.

They arrived in Carne a day or so after the attack, and were met by the village chief, as well as four strangers. Kobayashi ignored them as she addressed the chief, "The raiders who were attacking have been dealt with. They will not attack again."

"Thank you," the old man bowed slightly, then waved to the men, "These are the chiefs of the nearest settlements, one of whom was also attacked." He took a breath, "I fear we must impose upon you again."

"Oh?" Kobayashi looked curious.

"We wish to join the Empire of Ainz Ooal Gown," the chief said, bowing along with the other men.

"WHAT," Kobayashi blinked.

To be continued...
