The Adventures of Redstone
Injection
Metallic scrapes echoed off dark stone walls from deep within a vast crevice. All across the steep edges countless columns of holes were bored into the rock, like ancient silhouettes. Among them, gripping into the stone with sharp insectoid legs, crystalline beasts sat silent in indefinite slumber. Save for one, awoken by the disturbing noise. From their source it's red glow filled the abandon cavern, shining from it's hexagonal crystal head, and spreading through rigid veins under the transparent window on its long cylindrical body. With swiftness furious and mechanical, its four legs rose it from the stone, revealing a gleaming drill, and carried it towards a bare wall.
"No no no!" a small voice called out into the dark cave. A small black figure fell from the beast with scraps of its metal skin and shards of its veins. He scrambled back, looking up in horror through tinted goggles covered by spiney black bangs.
Risen from its ancient sleep, the beast immediately continued its work. The silent space filled with noise as its drill bore into the rock and echoed off the dark grey stone. The small being chased after it. From his palm glowed a brilliant white light, and as if from nothing a hammer shimmered into being and was gripped in their hand. He leapt upon the machine, reaching unexpected height before slamming the weapon into a strategically chosen point on its body. "Turn off! Come on turn off!" They begged it.
Minutes past, and nothing could be done. The drill began to recede from the ground, just as a blast of radiant shining blue light struck its head. It detonated, its whole body all but eradicated, reducing it to burned metal scrap raining down to the cavern floor. The small figure was blown away, but with extreme dexterity he planted his feet into the ground and slid to a safe stop. Looking up, his deep grey eyes where filled with fear, watching another being emerge from the settling dust. Their body was a bright blue, stark against the dim cave. Their hair was like solid diamond upon their head, cut sharp with a flat top that faded into sideburns. "What have you done!" they aggressively shouted with a staunchly militaristic tone, "Did I not directly order you to stay away from this place!?"
The smaller being cowered under his commanders eyes, strangely geometric pupils held on them unyielding. He sighed, dropping his defencive stance. "You did, Im sorry. I wont give you excuses I just couldn't resist,"
"Don't give me sorry. You made a promise to this world, broke it, and look what happened." They said, raising their arm to gesture with an open palm at the rockface the machine had assaulted.
He hoped nothing had happened, they just wanted to not look and deny it. But now they couldn't. As his eyes followed his commanders direction, they saw the faint red glow from deep within the punctured ground. It was marked like a scar, and perfectly in line with the rows of columns of forgotten exit wounds.
He stayed silent as the weight of his actions came onto him. Staring aghast, he approached the broken stone, delicately touched his hand to it. Seeing their companion's abject shock, the huge figure sighed and let their shoulders relax. They towered over him like a giant, but taking a knee they joined him by the injection site and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "You messed up, but you wont do it again. It will be alright. That is, if you make it right."
He looked up at them, tears silently running down his grey grainy cheeks. They continued, "You'll have to be there for them when they arrive. Show them this world, and why its precious. Then, they can protect it too, and give back what was given to them," As they spoke, they placed their hand near where the light blead from, and swept it over. The stone obeyed them, molding like clay at their touch it sealed the unfinished injection.
The smaller one looked up at the thousands and thousands of ordered holes, and above them the twinkling stars in space beyond the black sky. His gaze fell back to the wall in front of him, where in time another would join them. "At least, now they can be anything. When they open their eyes, they'll get to see everything,"
