Chapter 4, Bill and Godwin vs the Vault
Godwin was the first to find Chiara. She was sitting on the grass by the whomping willow. "Chiara, wanna talk" he called out to her. She looked over to him and didn't respond but didn't move away either. Godwin sat next to her. Her reddened eyes showed the signs of recent weeping. "Chiara, it's ok, she was lying, she was attacked by a hippogriff" he aid to her, she glanced back at him.
"It doesn't matter," she said with a heavy sigh. "I need to alone please"
"Alright, but if you need anyone you can talk to me and penny anytime alright" he said with a thin smile.
"Thanks" she said returning the thin smile, he went off to find Penny and after telling her what happened with Chiara and after that went off to track down Bill Weasley. He needed someone else to help him break into the vault and Bill was the most powerful wizard he could trust to help he still had fond memories of the Charismas they spent together and altogether, he seemed like a chili dude you could say anything to. He found him in one of the corridors near the great hall, with a bunch of Gyffindors.
"Hey Bill, can we talk?" he asked, greeting with a wave.
"Whoa there, what the hell do you want, Slytherin?" one male Gyffindor said.
"Ain't you one of the two Slytherin who trash ravenclaw common room!" another male gryffindor said
"He's also a Le Fey, we don't need dark arts lovers like you talking to us" a female Gyffindor said while crossing her arms.
"Alright, ease off, he's a friend" Bill said and gestured with Godwin to follow him.
"Sorry about that," Bill said when they were alone.
"With all the crap the daily prophet spits out and with my brother wasn't ever going popular, I've stop caring"
"Alright, what do you need?"
"Well, it's about the cursed vaults, I…" Godwin looked around making sure no one was nearby. "I found one"
"What, for real!"
"Yeah, and trying to get thought it almost got my friend Rowan killed"
"Rowan?, is he ok?"
"Yeah he's fine, but he's backing out of the adventuring side of things, and I would like you to join me, your more powerful than all my friends put together"
"Well, I've worked hard on my skills but I think you're selling you and your friends short," he said with a slight blush. "But… to be honest, I would love to help, I'm working toward being a curse breaker, this may be just the field experiences I need, what are we facing?"
"An enchanting ice wall as far as I can tell"
"Um, I wonder if that was all this ice spreading around Hogwarts is coming from, how did your friend Rowan get hurt"
"The door fired this ice beam at us, I'm not sure what it does but as far as It's dangerous but not fatal and it covered the door and wall of ice with a second wall of thick ice."
"I see, well I think I know just the spell I need, um can you defend yourself from something like that?"
"Yeah, I got a magic item I can uses"
Alright, we're going together then, when you wanna go?" The pair of them began to make plans later that night. On the way to meeting Godwin later that night, Bill put Finch under a bewitch sleeping spell and did the same to his cat as he entered the corridor together with Godwin.
"I wish I had you to help me soon," Godwin said.
"So where is this vault then, I don't see anything?" Bill asked, Godwin walked over to the fake wall and made it vanish with a word being uttered.
"Wow, your where not joking where you, just think how people have been passing this piece of wall no know what discovers they were inches away from" Godwin pulled his sword along and scabbed it out of his bag. Starling Bill.
"Where do you get that from?" Bill asked as Godwin tired the scabbed to his uniform and dumped his robe on the staircases.
"Its belongs to my grandfather King Arthur"
"So is that what think it is"
"Yeah, wanna have a look?" he said, offering it to bill. "Na, later, we should focus, but wow you're full of surprise Godwin" Godwin drew the sword, closed the wall behind them and put his wand away.
"Oh yeah something you should know, mums got this enchanted clock thing at home, if this thing attacks us and she nearby the thing, she'll see I'm in danger"
"Oh Yeah I know the ones, my mum is thinking of getting one, she should be in bed by now right thought?"
"Yeah should be… WOW" Bill said with a gasp as he saw the wall of ice.
"From what happened last time it seemed to only respond when attacked. So we have first strike and that is not the wall, that is an extra layer of ice that rises up after me and Rowan touch it." The pair of them approached the wall.
"Right ready when you are," Bill said.
"I'll go first. I've not mastered this thing yet so I got one main attack spell" Godwin said and pointed the sword toward the wall of ice.
"Thunder bolt" Godwin muttered to the sword and all at once lighting encircled and ran though the blade as one of five runic symbols lit up, after a few monuments there a boom as the charge of lighting slammed into the ice.
Bill joined in and with a flick of his wand, boom! an explosion rocked the wall of ice followed by the same spell again two more explosion rocked the extra layer of ice then two more went off and brought much of it down, then the ice beamed fired and bill was blown back.
"Shield me and hold" Godwin yelled as another beam fired and shook him to the core as it hit his invisible shield. "Bill!?" he called out.
"I'm good" Bill called back, Godwin placed himself between the wall and Bill as he began to rise up to one knee.
"It feels like, I've been drained, of all my energy" he looked up to see Godwin hold back another ice beam, even as his legs began to shake and sweat trickled down his face.
"You good?",
"I can take one or two more"
"Behind me, RUN!" Godwin lowered the blade and Bill rushed forward, struggling to catch his breath.
When the beam fired, he waved his wand and the beam broke before an invisible shield, he then fell back while facing the wall, blocking one more before the mysterious ice stopped attacking. The pair of them then retreated back to the stairwell
"That was something else, I think we need more wands at our side if we are to break through that" Bill said catching his breath.
"Can't say I disagree but who, I can't just accept anyone"
"let's just get out of here for now" the pair of them left began making the trip back to their dorms
"Maybe we can use your brother. Him, Tonks and Me duelled with them against Merula's gang last year, they were pretty handy there," Godwin said on the way back.
"Were have to make sure there train up, that ice wall is danger, I'll talk to my brother next time I get the chance"
"In that case I'll talk to Tonks and I may see if Penny can help, she is one of the best students in my year" Eventually the pair of them split up and returned to their dorms. With Halloween over, November arrived and with that the quidditch season was about to begin, However tragedy struck the Slytherin, When Skye turned up passed out in the quidditch stadium after taking a blow to a head according to Madam Pomfrey.
Meanwhile Bill and Godwin recruited Tonks, Charlie and Penny and told them about what was going on, however when they all showed up to the meeting they planned, charlie and bill had brought one extra guest ben.
"What are you doing here?" Godwin asked Ben as he made their way over to them
"When I hear what is going on I invite him, he's one of the best students in charms class remember" charlie said.
"Well, the more the merrier" Godwin said with a fake smile, still not sure about Ben since his mysterious disappearance and return. The group gathered around Bill, who towered over most of them.
"Right, well we all know why we're here" Bill said, straightening his back and puffing out his chest.
"Yes, I can't believe it took Godwin this long to ask me for help, you've been hogging all the fun Le Fey" Tonk said with a smile as she pinched his arm gently.
"Yeah well I was being careful, you know now at least" he said flashing a smile at her.
"Now first thing you she know is me and Godwin have both agree we should wait until the near end of the year, so we can have sometime to train up and learn more spell from the teacher"
"We won't be learning much in the dark art, that bloody teacher is useless" said Tonks followed by a handful of giggles and laughs from the others.
"I know what you mean and if I hear one more story about her bloody son, I'm going to go potty," said Charlie, which was followed by more giggles and laughs
"Alright we meet up weekly, me and Godwin will tell what you're up against and together we'll study, train and practice together." While they were gathering, getting recruited and sorting out the time and place they would meet. Skye had Woken up but when Godwin went to see her, he was less than happy with what he saw.
"Rita Skeeter !, what the hell are you doing here!" He said abit too loud and got the attention of most of the people in the room.
"Oh, Godwin Le Fey, so good to see you again!" she said with a large fake smile, Godwin walked over to her, stopping an inch away.
"If I could get away with it, I would cursed you right here and now!"
"Those dark roots are showing again, dear!"
"You two know each other I take it?" said Skye from the nearby Bed.
"Do I know her,, fucking yes I know her, She was the one who drag my family name thought the mud, she the one who said how ashamed my father would have been with my brother, she the one who started the bloody rumour of my brother becoming a dark wizard, I could go on…. Now get fuck out of my sight!" Godwin yelled as he turned to rita.
"Could you calm down or leave dear this is not the place for a shouting match!" said madam pomfrey as she walked over.
"Well he's the one getting hysterical not me" said rita.
"Nevertheless I think it's time you left" said madam hooch as she walked over to them. "Skye needs rest. You can hound her for a story when she has had more time to recover," hooch said sternly.
"Very well" she said as she walked off, meanwhile Skye burst into giggling.
"What?" Godwin said as he turned to her.
"Never seen you like that before, that the kind of fire I want to see in you on the pitch"
"What happened with you anyway?" he asked as he walked over and sat next to her..
"Rath whack me with a bludger" she said with furrowing eyebrows.
"That's quite the claim Miss Parkin I hope you can prove it" madam hooch said as she walked over.
"Well I didn't see it because she hit me when my back was turned but she was the only beater there training. "Not quite damning proof is it, either way I've come to tell you are not allowed to play in the game against Ravenclaw coming up. I want to ensure you recover from that blow to the head by giving you a couple of weeks off"
"I don't want another couple of weeks off!" Skye objected.
"Well tough luck because you're getting it" Madam hooch said as she rose back to her feet, "Get plenty of rest and cheer your team on from the sidelines" hooch said then walked off.
"Damn it, that Rath is the bane of my life," Skye yelled.
"I'm sorry Skye" Godwin said
"I was hoping I be there for our match with Ravenclaw"
"Well you the second one to look forward to"
"Yeah that'll be next bloody year… we gotten beat them this year Godwin, I can't face my dad again if I fail to win the cup for the second year, I worked my bloody butt off and I got nowhere!" Skye smashed her fist against a nearby side table.
"Skye, all you can do is your best and if that is not good enough for your father, that is his issue. You're the star player of our team, everyone here loves you, well, mostly… there's a few Ravenclaws who ain't your biggest fans, aaaand some of those Gyffindors really hate Slytherins" Godwin said in a Jovial tone
"Yeah thanks" she said with a half hearted chuckle.
"Want me to bring back homework?"
"Na your kidding, this is my chance to get a break from all that"
""Are sure about this Rath thing?, I mean you did kind of assume things last time, not that you didn't reasoning behind that of course"
"Yes, she was the only other beater then"
"Right, well in that case, I'll have a word with her"
"You what?, be careful did you seen the way she is"
"Don't worry, I stay out of punching range"
"What are you going to do?"
"Issue a warning, I be back" Godwin went off to track down Rath and found her with a handful of Ravenclaws, in the grassy courtyard
"Rath!" Godwin said sternly as he stormed over to her with purpose.
"What do you want!" she said rising to her feet as her friend gather around her,
"Did you hit Skye with a buldger?" he asked, his eyebrow furrowing
"Yeah, It'll teach her to keep out of my way when training!" she said walking up to him.
"Yeah, well if that happens again, I'll watch your back!, no one hurt my friends"
"What, too scared to try anything you little baby!" she said, leaning down at him.
"You may be an idiot enough to start something here, doesn't mean I am, that is your only warning" he walked off.
"Yeah come back when I've grown a pair," she yelled and she sat back down giggling with her friends. By time he got to his training session later that day the whole Slytherin team had heard about the encounter.
"Godwin, what's all this I hear about you threatening Rath?" the captain Orion asked as he joined them on the pitch and Godwin explained his what Skye told him.
"I see, it's good that you value a team member in such a way, but please do not do anything too rash, being on the Slytherin quidditch team is a privilege and it can be taken away by the teachers if you misbehave. ''.
"I'll keep that in mind captain"
"Good, now lets play, I want to drill into you guys some new tactics I plan for the ravenclaw match. With Skye gone we're going on the defensive and then when they're all in, we counter attacks.
"Sounds good" Godwin took part in training and that weekend, Ravenclaw vs Slytherin game would begin. Skye insisted on watching the game and was taken there by a few of her friends.
Meanwhile Godwin as getting his protective gear on as he ready himself for his first real quidditch match. He was on the substitute but the roaring of the nearby cowed didn't help his nervousness, as he was almost ready. He felt a hand on his shoulder and turned around to the captain.
"How are you feeling, looking forward to the game?"
"Yeah, can't wait"
"I just want to let you know I'll make all of you subs get their chances, we need everyone if we're going to do this without Skye.
"I intend to wins this for her, still can't believe what that Ravenclaw did"
"Too right, we're winning this for skye, it's about time we brought Rath's winning streak to an end!" After going through the game plan with the time, the captain flew out with the starting players and the sub sat within their team's box alongside the reserved players of the team and their house's head, Snape.
"They watched the first half of the match and by the end of the two hour half, the Slytherins were behind. 217 to 421 in what was a tight low scoring game with a single snitch catch to Ravenclaw. When the subs went down to meet the players and captain, Snape went with them, looking like he was on the warpath.
"Mister Amair, this is not the start of the season I wanted for my houses, you assure me you had a plan to counter them this year!"
" we were about to catch up until that snitch catch sir, beside I have a different plan now"
"Well, let's hear it?"
"I'm going to put more people in defences and have more people focus on catch stitches, if we can not too far behind, one or two catches and where back in the game"
"Hmm, very well, processed, I hope for our houses sake this works," Snape left and the captain turned to the players. Orion switched up the team, putting on players better suited to be seeker and defensive players and one of the chosen was Godwin.
"Godwin your up to"
"Thank you captain!" Godwin said as he sat up from the breach. Watching from the sidelines, sitting there feeling helpless, now was the chance to change the tide of the match.
When changes were made and plans put in place he joined the other players and flew out into the stadium and the atmosphere was breath-taking. Godwin's jaw gap opened as he looked around at the hundreds of people watching with all the defy shouts and chants. All attention on him and the other quidditch players, it was at that monument Godwin knew there was no other place he would rather be.
He flew by a few of his friends greeting them before getting into positions. As soon as the game started, the Ravenclaw assault began and Godwin did what he was used to, being a human shield for the hoops and slamming into players and he had just knocked aside an attacking player when there was a heavy whack into the side of his head…. Everything went black.
