Chapter 7: - The Goddesses of Monster Obliteration
"This card allows me to special Summon all the Valkyries I have in my hand. Descend! Warrior Maidens!" Sieg explained. The light continued to shine brightly as I waited for the effect to either activate and it did, within the light four shadows began to appear and they eventually left the light completely to rest on Sieg's field, four women clad in armour and set astride a horse each.
Valkyrie Erste – Attribute: Light, Type: Angel, Level: 6, ATK/1600, DEF/1800
Valkyrie Zweite – Attribute: Light, Type: Angel, Level: 5, ATK/1600, DEF/1600 (X3)
"He Summoned four Monsters at once!" Jounouchi exclaimed. That had been how he defeat Selim, only three of them was enough to wipe out a person's Life Points; Sieg declared that it was too later for Jounouchi to have regrets and instead activate the Special Effect of one of the Valkyrie Zweites, which unfortunately resulted in the destruction of the Psycho Shocker.
"Then, the Special Effect of Valkyrie Erste is also activated, by removing one Monster from the game – by that I was referring to the fallen Psycho Shocker – for the turn, she will take on the same Attack Points as the Monster removed and she is allowed to attack," Sieg explained. My eyes also fell out of my head at that explanation, to remove an opponent's Monster to strengthen your own Monster and then it could attack
Valkyrie Erste – ATK/1600 – ATK/2400
"What!?" Jounouchi exclaimed. Rightfully shocked at the danger he had been thrown into head first, Sieg wasn't going to give Jounouchi any time to rest as he ordered Valkyrie Erste to attack, the woman rode forward and swung her sword down slicing through Jounouchi and cleaving apart his Life Points, then Sieg had all of the Valkyrie Zweites attack Jounouchi directly causing a scream to erupt from the blonde as all of us cried out his name in shock.
"Did I not say that you are not fit to be my opponent?" Sieg commented. He was completely arrogant in his certainty of victory, but I wouldn't believe it until I saw for myself that Jounouchi's Life Points had hit zero; a ring of dust surrounded Jounouchi as the blonde managed to lift his head and I even heard a small chuckle get out of the blonde and I knew that he could still fight in the Duel.
"I hate to rain on your parade, but I haven't kicked the bucket yet here!" Jounouchi declared. Sieg exclaimed something in another language before returning to Japanese as he claimed that there shouldn't be any Life remaining for Jounouchi. "When you launched the first attack, I went and activated this card. The Magic card, Hyper Fresh! When I don't have any Monsters on the field and when the total Attack Power of the opponent's Monsters exceed my Life Points, it can be activated! It will double my Life Points!" Jounouchi revealed.
Jounouchi – LP: 4000 – LP: 8000
Jounouchi – LP: 8000 – LP: 5600
Jounouchi – LP: 5600 – LP: 4000
Jounouchi – LP: 4000 – LP: 2400
Jounouchi – LP: 2400 – LP: 800
"What do you think? I'm pretty damn tough, aren't I?" Jounouchi questioned. However, Sieg completely dismissed those words and instead claimed that any resistance from Jounouchi was futile and proceeded to set a reverse card and ended his turn, which also took the Valkyries off the field and put back in the Deck, due to that being a price for their Special Summoning. "You're still acting cool! You have no Wall Monsters on the field! I'll finish you off on my turn!" Jounouchi declared.
Suddenly the jets of lava proceeded to stop shooting out, meaning that Seto must have been able to get control of whatever had been running rampant within his system. Mokuba decided to head off to where Seto was, it was probably a good idea, we needed some information about what had been going on outside of the ride and Mokuba could inform him of how weird Sieg had been acting during the Duel.
"My turn! Draw!" Jounouchi declared. He pulled a card free and looked at it before moving the card towards his Duel Disk. "I Summon Swordsman of Landstar in Attack Position. Go on, Swordsman of Landstar! Direct Attack!" Jounouchi commanded. Given that he didn't use Angel Dice on it to increase its' Attack Points, that meant Jounouchi didn't have it, otherwise his insane luck probably would have most likely won him the Duel.
Swordsman of Landstar – Attribute: Earth, Type: Warrior, Level: 3, ATK/500, DEF/1200
"Then I shall activate this Trap card. Fricka's Mediation. By removing Wotan's Judgment in my Graveyard from the game, this card will nullify the opponent's attack during this turn. I will not allow you to touch me any further," Sieg revealed. Jounouchi was forced to relent as he set a single face down card and ended his turn.
"It is my turn," Sieg stated. He drew a card and proceeded to look at it before allowing a small laugh to escape from him at the sight of it. "Even the Goddess of Fate loves me. I activate a Magic card from my hand known as Nibelung's Treasure. The card's effect allows me to take the Nibelung's Ring card from my Deck and place it on the field, equipping it to my opponent's Monster," Sieg explained. The card appeared on Jounouchi's field and in response to its' appearance, a strange ring appeared on one of Swordsman of Landstar's fingers "And I can draw five cards," Sieg added on.
"That is one seriously unfair card, because I'm betting Nibelung's Ring does something terrible for the Monster equipped with it," I commented. There had to be a price attached, I could sense it so much that my hands were starting to itch; almost as if it agreed with me, Swordsman of Landstar began struggling to pull the ring off of its' finger with Jounouchi being confused about the card's presence.
"Then I activate a Magic card from my hand. The three goddesses that control destiny. Weaving threads of destiny that bind the past, present and future. Descend, the three sisters of Norn. Permanent Magic, Goddess Urd's Verdict, Goddess Verdande's Guidance and Goddess Skuld's Oracle," Sieg declared. Three women emerged onto the field each with their own unique look and wielding a sceptre. "The one who controls the future, Goddess Skuld, please tell me my future!" Sieg pleaded. The blue haired maiden raised her sceptre and a red ring flowed over the Duel field. "Her effect is that every turn, I can look at the top three cards in my opponent's deck and change their order," Sieg explained.
"You can do what?!" Jounouchi exclaimed. Honda was confused by this as he wondered what Sieg could possibly gain from changing the order of Jounouchi's cards but I'm betting that it was connected to the other two cards; Jounouchi pulled the cards free and proceeded to present them to the man so Sieg altered their order by having the second card become the top. "What's he trying to do?" Jounouchi wondered. There was worry in his voice and I didn't blame him even a little for the inflection.
"Next, the one who controls the present. Goddess Verdande. Her effect allows me to guess the card type of the top card of my opponent's Deck once per turn," Sieg explained. The pink haired maiden lifted her sceptre and a green glow surrounded her. "If I guess correctly, the card must be set on your field," Sieg stated. Jounouchi was shocked by those words and my eyes narrowed at this information. "The top card in your Deck is a Monster card!" Sieg declared. It wasn't even a guess because of what Skuld had done previously.
"Well… you saw it, so of course you know," Jounouchi exclaimed. Sieg explained that the Monster had to be Summoned out in Defence Position face down. "Fine," Jounouchi stated. He set the card as instructed and I glanced over at the final woman whose effect would no doubt explain the purpose behind the effects of the other two women.
"And the one who controls the past, Goddess Urd, will show me the ignorant one. Her effect is that during each turn, I can guess the opponent's reverse card. If I'm correct, the card will be removed from the game," Sieg explained. Exclamation of shock and anger erupted from Jounouchi and those of us watching with Honda wanting to know if it was even legal, the cards couldn't be used if it wasn't! A blue glow surrounded the blonde woman. "That reverse card is, Jet-Black Panther Soldier – Panther Warrior," Sieg declared. The reverse card flipped over revealing the aforementioned Monster and it then began to rise up. "Start you journey towards Valhalla!" Sieg insisted.
"First Psycho Shocker, now even Panther Warrior!" Yugi exclaimed. This was bad, with those three women on the field Sieg could adjust Jounouchi's Deck however he wished and destroy all of Jounouchi's powerful Monsters; Sieg proceeded to end his turn and insulted the most likely stunned Jounouchi by calling him ignorant once more.
"Damn it, using all these boring tactics… my turn, draw!" Jounouchi declared. I didn't blame him for being angry given that I would be no better if facing off against someone that could systematically destroy my Deck; sadly, Sieg proceeded to activate the effect of Nibelung's Ring which took away control of Swordsman of Landstar from Jounouchi and gave him he ability to draw two cards on his Draw Phase. "Then isn't this to my benefit? What are you thinking of?!" Jounouchi wondered.
"Do you really think so?" Sieg questioned. Jounouchi decided that he couldn't stand around being confused and restarted his Draw Phase, pulling out the two cards. "You have now been cursed by the Gods! There will be no escape for you! The effects of Nibelung's Ring, if there are any Monster cards in the cards you've drawn, you must discard one away," Sieg revealed. AH! I knew it had some kind of bad effect attached to it with Jounouchi being shocked by this. "Goddess Skuld has already seen the future, one of the cards is a Monster card Knight of Dark Dragons. Na, discard that into the Graveyard," Sieg insisted. Jounouchi was forced to discard it.
"If this keeps going on, Jounouchi-kun won't be able to use any Monster cards," Yugi stated. Unfortunately, the boy was right as the effects of the Valkyries, Nibelung's ring and those three accursed Goddesses turned Sieg's Deck into a Card Extermination Deck, that kind of Deck was the most deadly one to face off against in a Duel simply because there were near enough no countermeasures to it.
"From my hand, I activate a Magic card, Permanent Magic Dangerous Machine Type Six. Its' slots will turn during the Standby Phase and Special Effects will activate depending on the number that appears. I have very good luck! Isn't it said that, 'Luck is also a strength'?" Jounouchi spoke. Frankly, Luck was probably the best way to go as it might be the only way to overcome the effects plaguing Jounouchi's field at the moment.
"So, you are claiming that good luck will be enough to defeat me? I, someone who is loved by the Goddesses of Fate?" Sieg questioned. A mocking tone thick within his voice but Jounouchi refused to be swayed by this and instead insisted that they would find out on the next turn then proceeded to end his turn "It is my turn. I draw. I activate the effects of the Three Sister Goddesses of Fate," Sieg declared. The sacrifice this time was Goblin Attack Force, removing another powerful Monster and I clamped a hand over the back of my neck. "I'll set one reverse card and end this turn," Sieg stated.
"My turn! Draw!" Jounouchi declared. Obviously Sieg new there was at least one Monster card and forced Jounouchi to discard one of them to the Graveyard. "But now, the effects of the Permanent Magic, Dangerous Machine Type Six, is activated!" Jounouchi declared. The orbs on the machine spun around in synch until they all stopped on the same number. "Alright! Three allows me to draw another card! And the card I've just drawn is a Monster card. I Summon Swift Strike Samurai in Attack Position!" Jounouchi declared.
Swift Strike Samurai – Attribute: Wind, Type: Warrior, Level: 2, ATK/500, DEF/800
"It's useless no matter what you do. At this moment, I activate a Permanent Trap card, Loge's Flame," Sieg revealed. The card rose up revealing a blazing blue fire in the artwork. "As long as this card is on the field, Monsters with two thousand or less Attack Points cannot attack," Sieg explained. Gods damnit, he seemed to be prepared for every trick that could be thrown at him to bypass those Goddesses.
"But I'll also open my reverse card! Angel's Dice! The Attack Power of my Monster will be multiplied by the number that is rolled on the die!" Jounouchi declared. That card would be able to help, but the blonde needed to get a five or a six in order to be allowed to attack Sieg's Life Points. "Let's see which of us has the strongest luck!" Jounouchi yelled. The blue die clattered across the ground and started to rolled in once place before finally teetering to a stop… on a three.
Swift Strike Samurai – ATK/500 – ATK/1500
"It seems like the Goddess of Fate loves me and me alone," Sieg claimed. I allowed a sigh to escape from me as I moved the hand clamping the back of my neck down to press hard against my leg as Jounouchi complained about having lost to Sieg in luck before looking at his hand, I could only hope whatever card he got would be able to help him out as Jounouchi set one reverse card and ended his turn.
Swift Strike Samurai – ATK/1500 – ATK/500
"It is my turn. I draw. I activate the Goddess combo," Sieg declared. The Goddesses unleashed their powers and as a result Jounouchi lost Gearfried the Iron Knight. "I also activate a Magic card, Swan Maiden. This card allows me to Special Summon one Valkyrie onto the field," Sieg explained. A swan was projected onto the field and took flight before a light surrounded it. "Valkyrie Erste, on the attack!" Sieg announced. The swam transformed into the blue haired Valkyrie who had attacked Jounouchi earlier in the Duel and with his current Life Points, he was in danger of losing the Duel. "You are finished this time," Sieg claimed.
"I won't let you have your way!" Jounouchi declared. Erste's sword was flung at the samurai and pierced through him. "Activate Trap, One Dollar Silver Coin! This card can negate attack damage directed at Monsters with one thousand or less Attack Points," Jounouchi declared. The sword of the Valkyrie was pushed out of the Samurai and a single coin dropped onto the ground at Jounouchi's feet. "How's that? I won't be defeated so easily!" Jounouchi vowed.
"Dreams are on short lived. Oh well. I set one card face down and end my turn," Sieg responded. He seemed to be completely unflappable and always in control, but he easily lost it if his Life Points were struck, Jounouchi began his turn and used Dangerous Machine Type Six once more, getting the number three again allowing him to draw another card and he activated it, Treasure Cards of Fate. The white die clattered across the floor after being spun in mid-air and landed squarely on a six.
"This is it! Magic card, Hurricane! All Magic and Trap cards on the field are sent back to the hand!" Jounouchi declared. The powerful winds were summoned to the field and I felt a grin spread across my face as the Goddesses let out small screams as they were banished, of course Jounouchi lost his Dangerous Machine but it seemed a fair price to pay in order to be free of those Goddesses.
"My Trap activates. Freyja's Apple!" Sieg declared. A golden haired woman appeared on the field as Jounouchi was shocked by the occurrence. "Freyja's Apple is a card that is activated when it is removed from the field. Because of its' effect, I can draw one card from my Deck. And the Special Effect of Loge's Flame is also activated, when it is removed from the field. Become one with the fire, Valkyrie Brunhilde!" Sieg declared. In response a blue haired armoured woman astride a horse appeared on the field.
Valkyrie Brunhilde – Attribute: Light, Type: Angel, Level: 7, ATK/1800, DEF/2000
"Valkyrie Brunhilde is an Angel Type, she gains three hundred Attack Points for every Dragon and Warrior Type Monster on the field," Sieg explained. That wasn't good but she already had enough Attack Points to destroy Jounouchi's Life without the hefty increase that had just been given it, however Jounouchi quickly reacted by Releasing Swordsman of Landstar in an attempt to weaken Brunhilde and it freed him of Nibelung's Ring.
Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/1800 – ATK/2400
"I Advance Summon Maximum Six in Attack Mode!" Jounouchi declared. That was confusing as Maximum Six would only serve to increase Brunhilde's attack points and with Swift Strike Samurai in Attack Mode on the field, Sieg wouldn't strike at the more powerful Monster, any capable Duelist would choose the weaker Monster to ensure victory over their opponent.
Maximum Six – Attribute: Earth, Type: Warrior, Level: 6, ATK/1900, DEF/1600
"When this card is successfully Advance Summoned, I get to roll a die! He gains Attack Points equal to the result of the die roll times two hundred," Jounouchi declared. Another white die appeared on the field and was sent clattering across the ground, but I still couldn't understand what Jounouchi was up to as he would need a three to equal Brunhilde's attack points with Maximum Six and there was still Swift Strike Samurai, unless he had another card to play in order to protect it. "Because I got a six, its' Attack Power is increased by one thousand and two hundred points!" Jounouchi declared.
Maximum Six – ATK/1900 – ATK/3100
"Next, from my hand, I activate the Magic card, Star Pluster," Jounouchi declared. The die was projected onto the field and it was held by a weird half and half creature, half-devil and… half-angel I think. "I can roll this die once by sacrificing one Monster, I can then Summon out a Monster whose Level matches the Level of the sacrificed Monster increased by the die result," Jounouchi explained. The die went rolling along before coming to a stop on a five.
Swift Strike Samurai – Level: 2 – Level: 7
"Swift Strike Samurai's Level is two and the die result is five. Meaning I get to call a Level Seven Monster! Come out, Red-Eyes Black Dragon!" Jounouchi declared. The dark scaled Dragon appeared on the field with a fearsome roar and I felt a sigh of relief escape from me, knowing that at least the Monsters now on the field would keep Jounouchi's Life Points safe from being damaged any more.
Red-Eyes Black Dragon – Attribute: Dark, Type: Dragon, Level: 7, ATK/2400, DEF/2000
"Maximum Six, attack Brunhilde!" Jounouchi commanded. The blue skinned Monster charged forward and unleashed a hail of punches at Brunhilde with the woman using her shield in order to ward off the assault and it shattered into pieces but the woman herself remained on the field. "What? Why wasn't she destroyed?!" Jounouchi questioned. Maximum Six should have destroyed the woman due to the difference in the Attack Points.
"Because of Brunhilde's Special Effect. When she takes on an attack from a Monster, her Defence Points will drop by one thousand points to prevent destruction," Sieg explained. That was an annoying little Effect, but at least Jounouchi had Red-Eyes on his field and would be able to attack with that Monster, which would clear Erste off of the field and dealing a nice bit of damage to Sieg's Life Points.
Sieg – LP: 1600 – LP: 900
Valkyrie Brunhilde – DEF/2000 – DEF/1000
"Red-Eyes!" Jounouchi commanded. The blazing fire of Red-Eyes proceeded to gather within its' maw and black lighting began to crackle around it before Red-Eyes shot the orb forward and it slammed into Valkyrie Erste, destroying the light blue haired woman and bringing Sieg down to his last one hundred Life Points and leaving Jounouchi only a few steps away from achieving victory.
Sieg – LP: 900 – LP: 100
"I reset the Dangerous Machine Type Six from my hand! Then, I set one reverse card face down and end my turn," Jounouchi declared. Everything was set up and I felt my hands rubbing together as I stared at the Dueling Field, feeling a little nervous; even though Jounouchi seemed completely ready to win, Sieg was the kind of person who would find some way to bounce back if he was given an inch and those Goddesses of his were technically still in his hand. "So, what now? Looks like your good luck is about to burn out!" Jounouchi declared. The others tacked on their congratulations and encouragement.
"Up until now, there has not been a single person who could make me play seriously. I will no longer hold back. My turn! I draw! I activate the Equipment Magic, Spirit Sword – Nothung! I equip it to Brunhilde to increase her Attack Strength by four hundred points!" Sieg announced. I did not like the sound of him claiming that he hadn't been taking this Duel seriously from the beginning and yet had caused some serious to Jounouchi as a result of those tactics of his.
Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/2400 – ATK/2800
"Nothung is no ordinary sword. This is a sword holding fusion compatibilities. It will destroy all Dragon-Type Monsters on my opponent's side of the field and exclude them from the game," Sieg explained. My eyes widened in shock as blue flames surrounded the sword which Brunhilde swung at Red-Eyes and causing him to vanish completely causing my lips to twitch at the loss of Jounouchi's of another of his ace Monsters.
Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/2800 – ATK/2500
"I then activate a Magic card known as Suspension Bridge of the Hero – Bifröst! For each of the opponent's Monsters that have been sent out of the game, it adds five hundred Attack Points to a Valkyrie!" Sieg declared. My eyes near enough bulged out of my head as an arching rainbow began to manifest and Ride of the Valkyries began to play once more, the ghostly images of the Monsters flowed across the rainbow to Brunhilde's sword and vanished into it.
Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/2500 – ATK/5000
"I won't let you do that! Reverse card, open! Compensation Mediation!" Jounouchi declared. Sieg claimed that this was simply Jounouchi continuing to rebel against fate. "Shut up! I can place this card together with two of your cards from your Graveyard and shuffle them. Then I will pick one of them. If I pick this card, the battle will come to an end!" Jounouchi declared. He then threw Compensation Mediation at Sieg who caught it. "I won't lose to you at such a critical moment!" Jounouchi vowed.
"Vorher, take your pick," Sieg encouraged. He then placed the cards on the Duel Disk and spread them out as the other cards faded away. "This will be a bet on your destiny," Sieg stated. I swallowed thickly as all of us continued to watch, it had worked last time against Mai but we didn't know if it would turn out the same way, Jounouchi's luck had been temperamental during this Duel and a lead weight pressed itself into my stomach.
"The card I pick is… that one!" Jounouchi declared. He pointed at the card that he had decided – which was the middle – and so Sieg pressed against that card, causing it to start rising up and my stomach began to churn as I waited for the outcome to make itself known, Jounouchi made no sound as the card was revealed to be Swan Maiden.
"Your fate is sealed," Sieg stated. A sorrowful sigh escaped from me as the outcome of the duel was painfully obvious now. "Go, Brunhilde! Together with the souls of the warriors!" Sieg commanded. Brunhilde rode forward and swung her sword through Maximum Six, destroying the Monster and damaging Jounouchi's Life Points.
Jounouchi – LP: 800 – LP: 0
Jounouchi collapsed to his knees as the others were stunned by the outcome and Sieg gloated that the Goddesses of Fate favoured him, with those words Sieg turned and walked away from us whilst tossing a pale rose over his shoulder. We quickly crossed over and approached the crumpled blonde who didn't respond to Yugi calling out to him and I had nothing to say to him that could help cheer him out.
"Hey, you! How could you guess wrong in the final moment?!" Honda questioned. Otogi agreed that it wasn't like Jounouchi at all and Anzu suggested that Jounouchi had actually lost simply because his life wasn't on the line, causing me to sharply jab the girl in the side with my elbow and a scowl on my face. "I see, like how you get a burst of energy during a fire?" Honda spoke up. Clearly, he wasn't seeing the trembling that was coursing across Jounouchi.
"Damn it guys! Enough is enough! Can't you comfort me at least a little?!" Jounouchi yelled. He twisted around and jerked to his feet, the blonde then proceeded to chase the other three in a circle around me and Yugi as I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion before shaking my head as I leaned it lightly against my right hand, the other three were laughing loudly at being chased. "Stop laughing! Why are you running away?!" Jounouchi yelled.
'Honestly, that knucklehead did just fine. But I'm worried about how Katherine will fair against Sieg… and if he truly might be our hacker.' I thought.
