Chapter 8: - Genius Girl VS. Genius Boy
"Let me get this right? You want to postpone my match due to the technical problems that have occurring since there's only one area that is completely devoid of electronics and Rebecca is facing off in her match there," I repeated. After I finished my match, Mokuba had showed up and dragged me to Seto who had just proposed the established scenario to me. "Why do you need to postpone it? Just find me a place that had limited electronics," I suggested.
"No Katherine. I'm taking every precaution here. The previous hacking caused serious disruptions but no harm, yet it had escalated from the first hacking. If we're hacked again, it could result in serious harm or even death. I'm working on completely isolating one area so that your Duel can go ahead," Seto explained. I couldn't argue with his logic as there was every chance that it might happen, Seto was only trying to ensure that everyone was kept safe from harm.
"Alright Seto. Let's do it, I'm going to go watch Rebecca to occupy myself," I agreed. Seto nodded, I turned and left the building as Mokuba told me where Rebecca was going to be for her match, I took off towards the location hoping that I'd be able to meet up with the rest of my friends; I'd learned that Jounouchi had sadly lost against Sieg but I refused to let that hold me back and instead I intended to use what I'd learn from Jounouchi to stop Sieg.
I found Rebecca standing in front of a television and squealing happily with my mum and Yumiko standing beside her with my mum shaking her head, Rebecca was confused by my presence, so I simply explained what Seto had told me. Rebecca understood and was happy to know that I would be present to cheer her on, we soon got the message of where Rebecca would be Dueling, in the miniature land.
We quickly travelled there and waited outside for the others to show up but the more time that passed, the more that Rebecca slowly became more disappointed and I couldn't understand where the others were given my match's postponement. An elderly voice suddenly called out the blonde girl's name, so we all snapped our heads up and saw Arthur running towards us, stopping out of breath in front of his granddaughter.
"You've done well Rebecca and now it's the Semi-Finals," Arthur commented. I was curious as to why the elderly archaeologist was stood in front of us when I figured he would still be with Suguroku in the infirmary given the old man's condition of having injured his back at some point before my match; Rebecca was worried about why Yugi and the others weren't here yet. "Actually, I met them earlier. Seemed like something popped up and so they might be late. But they said that they'd definitely come and cheer for you. Don't make things difficult for them, Rebecca. They will be here shortly. Yugi-kun asked me to tell you to do your best," Arthur explained. Rebecca had repeatedly interrupted Arthur during his explanation, but he just kept going.
"Really! Then, I'll tolerate it for a while longer!" Rebecca exclaimed. We decided to head inside and found a sprawling town that had been shrunk down to a small size. "Wow, amazing. I feel as though I've turned into a giant," Rebecca admitted. She then took off down the roads with an excited gleam in her eyes. "Am I Dueling here?" Rebecca wondered. Rebecca kept moving until she came to a stop and stared at something causing the rest of us to move towards her. "Gulliver!?" Rebecca exclaimed.
"Oh, that's really life like!" Arthur declared. We'd arrived at the spot and saw the appearance of a life size pair of legs sticking out from the trees, but the pulsing of mana indicated that those legs belonged to a real person and this was proven true when the legs pulled in and the torso rose up, revealing a sleepy Leon Wilson sat there, rubbing at his eyes.
"I fell asleep…," Leon spoke. However, that was the moment that he realised we were all standing there and Rebecca asked what he was doing. "I felt as though I entered a fairy tale world and I got so comfortable that I fell asleep," Leon commented. I smiled upon hearing his words, the genuine innocence he had easily shone through even as Rebecca called him a child. "Huh? Where's Yugi-san and the others? They're not coming to cheer you on?" Leon wondered.
"They will be coming. Just that they'll be here slightly late," Rebecca insisted. Arthur then asked if anyone was coming to cheer Leon on but apparently they were all too busy to come and watch him, that caused a scowl to appear on my mum's face since her and dad did try to make some appearances at mine and Kylie's Duels but it sounded like Leon's family didn't even make the effort to try and show up; it was made worse when Leon cheerfully admitted he was used to being alone.
"I don't think you're as alone as you think," Mum commented. She raised her free hand and pointed behind the maroon haired boy, revealing there were some spectators behind him and they were discussing the outcome of the match and soon more showed up, cheering the two young geniuses on in the match. "Well with your adoring public here, I think now might be a good time to start this Duel, we can't allow all these cheering people to be disappointed," Mum stated.
"Yeah. But it'd be even better if Yugi-san was here to cheer for me," Leon admitted. He spoke as he pushed himself up onto his feet, but Rebecca claimed that the young boy would only cheer for her, causing me to roll my eyes at that. "You're so lucky!" Leon whined. He was still smiling though, the two proceeded to set themselves up.
Leon – LP: 4000
Rebecca – LP: 4000
"Here I go Leon! My turn! Draw! From my hand, I activate the Angel's Charity Magic card!" Rebecca declared. She activated the card and then reached back to her Deck. "I draw three cards from my Deck and then discard two cards from my hand, these are the cards I'm discarding," Rebecca explained. She then plucked two cards and showed them off, allowing me to see Fallen Angel Marie, who would regenerate Rebecca's Life Points during each Standby Phase. "Then from my hand I Summon Big Bang Girl in Attack Mode! I set one card face down and end my turn!" Rebecca announced. Big Bang Girl dealt damage to the opponent whenever the controller regained Life Points, a Gain and Drain strategy.
Big Bang Girl – Attribute: Fire, Type: Pyro, Level: 4, ATK/1300, DEF/1500
"It's my turn! Draw!" Leon declared. The cheering from the spectators was loud and vibrant, I was curious as to what kind of Duel Leon would show to us. "I Summon Forest Wolf in Attack Position!" Leon announced. A wolf, wearing pink sleeping clothing, was projected onto the field with it standing on its' hind legs.
Forest Wolf – Attribute: Earth, Type: Beast, Level: 3, ATK/1800, DEF/300
"Forest Wolf, attack Big Bang Girl!" Leon commanded. The canine dropped onto all fours and charged forward before leaping at Big Bang Girl and opening its' mouth, instead of biting through Rebecca's Monster like I expected, the wolf swallowed her whole and its' stomach bulged out as a result of the swallowing; I rubbed my eyes several times just to make sure that I was seeing properly.
Rebecca – LP: 4000 – LP: 3500
"Even though Forest Wolf is quite a glutton, it needs time to digest the food it eats," Leon commented. Rebecca didn't finish her sentence when she asked for clarification but did seem to figure out that inside of its' stomach was her Monster. "Then from my hand I activate a Magic card, Curse of Thorns," Leon continued on. The moment he activated the card, thorned vines surged out and burrowed into the ground before pulling out of the ground shortly after, holding tight to Fallen Angel Marie. "Curse of Thorns, it is able to seal up Effects that are activated when the Monster is in the Graveyard," Leon explained.
"You're good, Leon," Rebecca admitted. He was, he had so easily disabled Rebecca's strategy with only two cards, Leon proceeded to end his turn. "My turn! Draw! I Summon Sapphire Dragon in Attack Position!" Rebecca declared. The blue scaled dragon materialised on the field with a fierce roar. "How's that! I have various forms of attack I can use any time I want. Allow me to teach them to you," Rebecca insisted.
Sapphire Dragons – Attribute: Wind, Type: Dragon, Level: 4, ATK/1900, DEF/1600
"Sapphire Dragon, attack Forest Wolf! Sapphire Spark!" Rebecca ordered. The dragon opened its' mouth and unleashed a stream of fire at Forest Wolf, but just before it hit the canine, I saw something be shot out of the Forest Wolf; I soon got my answer as to what the thing was then I saw Big Bang Girl land on Rebecca's field as if she has never left it.
Leon – LP: 4000 – LP: 3900
"Because Forest Wolf got destroyed, the Monster in its' stomach is Special Summon onto the owner's field. That was great, Rebecca," Leon congratulated the girl, Rebecca wasn't going to stop yet as she commanded Big Bang Girl to attack Leon, depleting him of even more Life Points; this Duel was going to be a lot of back and forth within it
Leon – LP: 3900 – LP: 2600
"As expected of the U.S. Champion. But I won't lose! It's my turn! Draw! I Summon Glife the Mythical Bird in Attack Position!" Leon declared. A large red feathered bird appeared on the field behind Leon, flapping its' wings up and down, I glanced over at Rebecca and saw the intensity of her stare, indicating that there were thoughts flying through her mind at a rapid pace, perhaps connected to her face down card.
Glife the Mythical Bird – Attribute: Wind, Type: Avian Beast, Level: 4, ATK/1500, DEF/1500
Before anything could be done however, Glife opened its' beak and allowed a cry to escape from it, the cry reverberated forward and smashed into Rebecca's face down card, destroying it. Leon explained that when Glife was Summoned, it could destroy one of the opponent's Magic or Trap cards and then Leon commanded Glife to attack Big Bang Girl, destroying her in an instant.
Rebecca – LP: 3500 – LP: 3300
"Next, I activate the Permanent Magic, House of Sweets from my hand. Turn end," Leon decided. A small gingerbread house was projected onto the field with big lips on its' front, Rebecca stared at the gingerbread house for a little while before she made to get on with her turn, drawing a card; however, the moment she did a purple tongue surged from the House of Sweet's mouth and wrapped around Sapphire Dragon.
Because of the wrapped tongue, Sapphire Dragon was dragged back to House of Sweets and pulled inside with the house making eating motions, but shockingly enough, Sapphire Dragon was spat out from the House of Sweets. The released dragon proceeded to float back down onto Rebecca's field but I realised that the blue scaled Monster had somehow been blown up to a rotund size, it looked like a balloon!
Sapphire Dragon – ATK/1900 – ATK/2500
"Being too fat is not good for you!" Leon declared. As if in response to those words, Sapphire Dragon began to enlarge even more before exploding into pixels. "Listen up. During each of your Standby Phases House of Sweets will add six hundred Attack Points to one of your Monsters. The thing is, if the Monster's Attack Points are two thousand and five hundred or higher, it'll pop! Then my Life Points will increase by five hundred!" Leon explained.
Leon – LP: 2600 – LP: 3100
"That's one weird card, in fact all of his cards have been a little… odd," I admitted. Mum nodded her head in agreement whilst Yumiko just looked on with wide eyes at the creatures that were facing off before her; Rebecca wasn't going to back down however as she swiftly activated The Shallow Grave which allowed both Duelists to select a Monster in their Graveyards and Special Summon it in Defence Position, Rebecca selected her recently destroyed Sapphire Dragon and Leon picked Forest Wolf.
"Then I Release Sapphire Dragon to Advance Summon Emerald Dragon in Attack Position!" Rebecca declared. The newly revived Dragon shattered into pieces before those pieces flew back together and were surrounded by light which soon faded to reveal a massive green skinned dragon that unleashed a furious roar.
Emerald Dragon – Attribute: Wind, Type: Dragon, Level: 6, ATK/2400, DEF/1400
"Here I come Leon! Emerald Dragon, attack Glife the Mythical Bird! Emerald Flame!" Rebecca commanded. The dragon opened its' maw and unleashed a stream of green light which shattered Leon's bird Monster; even though the Monster was destroyed I was concerned about how Rebecca was going to do since House of Sweets would destroy Emerald Dragon and restore Leon's Life Points on her next turn.
Leon – LP: 3100 – LP: 2200
"You're really strong, Rebecca. Now I'm getting all excited about this Duel. It's my turn! Draw!" Leon declared. He pulled the card free and looked at it before switching his gaze forward. "I switch Forest Wolf to Attack Position! Then from my hand, I Summon Cinderella in Attack Position," Leon declared. The wolf rose onto its' hind legs and a girl dressed in tattered rags appeared on the field; however, this soon changed when an old woman appeared on a broom and waved a wand over the girl, giving her a beautiful blue dress.
Cinderella – Attribute: Light, Type: Angel, Level: 4, ATK/300, DEF/600
"Due to Cinderella's Special Effect, I can Special Summon Pumpkin Carriage in Defence Mode!" Leon declared. The old woman flew away from the Monster with glitter falling from her wand and it landed on the field, causing the aforementioned Pumpkin Carriage to appear on the field; the old woman then changed her flight path and flew down towards the hem of Cinderella's dress.
Pumpkin Carriage – Attribute: Earth, Type: Plant, Level: 3, ATK/0, DEF/800
"Also, I can activate the Equipment Magic, Glass Shoes," Leon added on. The hem was lifted up and glass shoes materialised around Cinderella's feet when the old woman flew passed causing Cinderella to gasp in happiness as the old woman giggled, Rebecca was shocked by this. "Well you see, when Pumpkin Carriage is on the field, Cinderella can attack the opponent directly," Leon explained.
"What did you say?!" Rebecca exclaimed. Leon then commanded Cinderella to attack Rebecca and the blonde princess agreed by twirling around and kicking her glass slippers at Rebecca, causing them to shatter against the young girl's arms given that Rebecca had raised them to protect her, that was a rather scary Effect.
Rebecca – LP: 3300 – LP: 3000
"And when Cinderella attacks successfully, I can equip Glass Shoes on the opponent's monster," Leon explained. The glass materialised around Emerald Dragon's feet and Rebecca was confused by this turn of events. "A Monster equipped with Glass Shoes cannot attack Cinderella and its' Attack Points will be decreased by one thousand," Leon explained. My eyes widened in surprise at these developments, that was a scary Monster and Magic combo.
Emerald Dragon – ATK/2400 – ATK/1400
"How can that be?" Rebecca questioned. Leon wasn't done with his turn however as he still had Forest Wolf and quickly commanded it to attack Emerald Dragon, causing Rebecca's Monster to be swallowed whole once more, although this time the wolf did it by breathing in deeply, causing the air force to drag Emerald Dragon into its' mouth.
Rebecca – LP: 3000 – LP: 2600
"And you know, when the Monster equipped with Glass Shoes is destroyed, Glass Shoes will be equipped back on Cinderella and her Attack Power will go up by one thousand points. I set one card and end my turn," Leon revealing. Good gods would this combo ever stop?! It was troublesome enough with the direct attack but knowing that Cinderella basically used Glass Shoes to leech the power of the opposing Monster and increase her own made it worse.
Cinderella – ATK/300 – ATK/1300
"My turn! Draw!" Rebecca declared. She seemed stressed, no doubt because of the rarity of the cards that Leon was using against her. "I activate a Magic card from my hand, Tribute to the Dead! By discarding one card from my hand, I can destroy one Monster on the opponent's field," Rebecca declared. As Rebecca discarded the card, Forest Wolf's stomach burst open and Emerald dragon escaped through the hole as Forest Wolf disappeared. "Next, I activate the Magic card, Stamping Crush! It can destroy one Magic card on the field and deal five hundred points of damage to that player!" Rebecca declared. A foot flew out and smashed through House of Sweets.
Leon – LP: 2200 – LP: 1700
"And then, I use Emerald Dragon to attack Cinderella!" Rebecca commanded. Green light flew towards the woma,n but Leon quickly reacted by activated a reverse card which was Holy Barrier – Mirror Force; the attack was bounced back towards Emerald Dragon and it was destroyed. "T-That can't be," Rebecca whispered. Her eyes were wide with shock as she stared at the space where Emerald Dragon had just been. "Turn end," Rebecca stated. She turned around to look at her opponent.
"It's my turn! Draw! Cinderella, Direct Attack the player!" Leon commanded. Once more the princess spun around and sent her glass shoes flying at Rebecca causing them to shatter over her once more and Leon continued to look confident whilst Rebecca was clearly agitated by what was happening in this Duel.
Rebecca – LP: 2600 – LP: 1300
'I can see how Leon is unbeatable, those cards of his are quite versatile and how he uses them in combos is amazing. Rebecca has her work cut out for her if she wants to win.' I thought. I quickly glanced around and felt my lips pull into a tense frown. 'And where are Yugi, Kylie and the others!' I wondered. The group had yet to arrive but as I looked around, I spotted the distinctive red hair of my sister.
