With the Oreichalcos God defeated, Kylie, Katherine and Yugi can turn their attention to restoring Yami's memories of Ancient Egypt but the unexpected return of an old enemy threatens to send things spiralling out of control, endangering them, challenges are overcome as long held questions are answered; but first a Dueling Tournament must be tackled. Part 5 of the Hope Chronicles

11. Chapter 11

Good Day Readers and welcome to the sequel to The Lost Kingdom! Thanks to all of you for the support and I hope that you all enjoy this latest edition of the Hope sisters. This upload will focus on the Grand Prix/Grand Championship arc whilst next week we'll move onto Dawn of the Duel arc

Obviously I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh only Kylie and Katherine Hope along with the unique cards within their decks and whatever other OCs decide to crop up. Also italics symbolise a mind conversation. I would appreciate any responses that you have, please enjoy

Chapter 11: - Valkyries VS. Blue-Eyes White Dragon

"Seto, I hope you can escape from this," Katherine murmured. I glanced down at my younger sister and saw her hands were tightly clasped together in her lap, a quick glance behind showed that mum was frowning deeply as her eyes shone with concern, Yumiko on the other hand was completely oblivious to the tension we felt and seemed to be feeding off of the crowd's energy as she clapped her hands and swung her legs back and forth.

"Due to the effect of Nibelung's Ring, you can draw two cards. If any Monster cards are drawn, one must be discarded to the Graveyard," Siegfried explained. Seto dismissed the curse as Siegfried had called the effect and proceeded to draw the two cards and apparently, he hadn't drawn any Monster cards; then he proceeded to set one card face down and ended his turn as I pressed my lips together tightly. "Hmph. Still you cannot control the XYZ-Dragon Cannon you have on the field due to the effect of Nibelung's Ring," Siegfried stated.

"Is he going to Direct Attack again?" Mokuba wondered. There was a high chance that was exactly what he was going to do and I felt my fingers tighten around my arms at the thought; Siegfried proceeded to draw his card and barely gave it a passing glance before declaring that he was going to attack with Valkyrie Zweite and Fortune Chariot.

Valkyrie Zweite – ATK/1600 – ATK/800

The horses cantered forward, pulling the warrior woman with it but Seto quickly reacted and activated his face down which was the Trap card Attack Guidance Armour. The attack drawing pieces of metal appeared on Valkyrie Erste and Seto explained its' effect just as the horses turned around and hauled Valkyrie Zweite towards her comrade.

"Reverse card, open! Wotan's Judgment!" Siegfried declared. The horses pulled to a stop and reared up inches from the snout of Erste's horse. "This card can be activated when a monster attacks. By exchanging a Magic card in my hand with the topmost card on the Deck, the Battle Phase will be forced to end," Siegfried explained. The crowd cheered at those words as Siegfried appeared confident. "Such a pathetic tactic. But thanks to you, I now have all the Goddesses of Fate in my hand. Watch this!" Siegfried declared. My eyes widened and I'm sure I went a touch paler at those words. "Permanent Magic, Goddess Urd's Verdict, Goddess Verdande's Guidance, Goddess Skuld's Oracle!" Siegfried revealed.

Those accursed Goddesses appeared on the field, Jounouchi and Yugi quickly caught onto the fact of what was coming and I felt the hair on my arms stand on end at the sight of those three. Seto however, didn't appreciate the danger that these Goddesses posed to his Deck, especially if Siegfried got a hold of the Rainbow Bridge and instead dismissed it as a small trick to seal away Seto's hand, before calling Siegfried a rat.

"And you would be mistaken, as I am favoured ever so by fate I am able to forgive your petty insults. Goddess Skuld, the one that controls the future, show me the future that is to come!" Siegfried retaliated. The blue haired woman raised her sceptre and glowed red as three cards appeared on the field, all of which were Blue-Eyes White Dragon!

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that line up and even Siegfried seemed floored by the revelation off what was to come, eventually the cards faded away and Seto questioned why Siegfried looked so nervous and if he had seen his destruction. In response to the sight that he had seen, Siegfried swiftly activated Verdande's Effect and proceeded to bring out the topmost Blue-Eyes he'd seen.

"Worthless trick," Seto dismissed. He set the card face down on the field and Siegfried immediately used Urd's effect to banish the Monster, when Blue-Eyes was flipped over she roared in anger before Urd's blue glow sent her away from the field; Mokuba shot to his feet and called out to his brother's ace Monster as Yugi gaped in shock – despite having known what was coming – whilst Katherine blinked rapidly at the sight she'd just seen; Siegfried ended his turn.

Valkyrie Zweite – ATK/800 – ATK/1600

"Seto has got two more Blue-Eyes coming up, meaning he'll be forced to discard one of them. He might be able to Summon the other one out by sacrificing XYZ-Dragon Cannon which would free him of Nibelung's Ring, but I'm concerned about Valkyrie Erste's Special Effect and if Siegfried manages to combine her with Fortune Chariot," I revealed. If Siegfried used Erste and Fortune Chariot to attack and Seto had no face down cards then that would be it for my friend.

"My turn! Draw!" Seto declared. He pulled the two cards free, Siegfried reminded him to discard a card, Seto smirked as he revealed his second Blue-Eyes before sliding her into the Graveyard. "I activate Resurrection of the Dead from my hand! Return from the Graveyard! Come out, Blue-Eyes White Dragon!" Seto declared. The powerful dragon appeared on the field with a roar and I was relieved that Siegfried couldn't make use of Erste's Effect.

Blue-Eyes White Dragon – Attribute: Light, Type: Dragon, Level: 8, ATK/3000, DEF/2500

"You did it brother!" Mokuba cheered. Even Jounouchi was happy to see the dragon finally out on the field and Seto quickly ordered the beautiful dragon to attack with the blow being aimed at Valkyrie Zweite, the Burst Stream of Destruction washed over the field and towards Fortune Chariot which Zweite had still been in, but I saw the pink haired woman leap from the chariot and return to her own horse.

"Fortune Chariot will be sacrificed in order to prevent Valkyrie Zweite's destruction!" Siegfried declared. Despite that fact, Siegfried was still going to take a fair amount of damage thanks to the destruction of one of his monsters and bring the two to having exactly the same Life Points and giving Seto more of a fighting chance at winning this Duel.

"You're nothing!" Mokuba declared. The boy seemed a little too happy at the move his brother had just pulled off, but I could hardly blame him for that fact since I was rather relieved that Seto had managed to pull himself free from that rather sticky situation that he had appeared to be ensnared within for the last several turns. "Now their Life Points are equal!" Mokuba cheered. Seto proceeded to end his turn

Siegfried – LP: 2500 – LP: 1100

"Hmph, what was that about being favoured by fate? If that were true, it would be on the side of Blue-Eyes White Dragon!" Seto declared. Siegfried appeared to be rather enraged by that fact as he proceeded to pull a card free from his Deck in a rather angry move which was a stark difference to the normal composure that he seemed to carry himself with.

"I activate the Effect of the Three Goddesses!" Siegfried declared. The three women activated their powers and three cards appeared on the field and Siegfried made it so that Emerald Dragon would be eliminated but Seto would soon have access to shrink which would help him get closer to victory. "Next from my hand, I activate the Magic card Gryphon's Feather Duster! By destroying all the Magic and Trap cards I have on my field, I regain five hundred Life Points for every card," Siegfried declared. The three Goddesses shattered and I stared wide-eyed at the fact that Siegfried was giving up his Goddess Combo to regain Life Points, had Seto shaken him that badly?

Siegfried – LP: 1100 – LP: 2600

"Just when Blue-Eyes managed to deal him some damage," Mokuba mourned. Siegfried wasn't done with his move yet as he proceeded to Release Erste and Zweite in order to Advance Summon Valkyrie Brunhilde in Defence Position and thanks to her Special Effect, her Attack Points quickly rose up thanks to Blue-Eyes' presence.

Valkyrie Brunhilde – Attribute: Light, Type: Angel, Level: 7, ATK/1800, DEF/2000

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/1800 – ATK/2100

"Turn end. Kaiba, I hate to steal away your anticipation of the next card you'd draw. But the first will be a Monster card," Siegfried revealed. Seto didn't seem bothered by those words and proceeded to draw his cards free. "Activate the effect of Nibelung's Ring. Discard the Monster card into the Graveyard!" Siegfried ordered. He didn't have the Goddesses anymore so there'd be no more manipulation of Seto's Deck.

"Just one Blue-Eyes will be enough for me. Go forth Blue-Eyes! Burst Stream of Destruction!" Seto declared. Blue-Eyes charged up her attack and sent the attack spiralling towards Brunhilde but I remembered that Valkyrie's other Special Effect and knew that she'd be sticking around for a little longer than Seto expected; the attack washed over Brunhilde as she held out her shield and a part of it was destroyed as a result.

"Brunhilde's Special Effect has been activated. By giving up one thousand Defence Points, she can avoid being destroyed in battle," Siegfried explained. I felt a frown pull sharply at my lips, Seto was forced to simply set a card face down and ended his turn given that he had no other options available to him at the moment.

Valkyrie Brunhilde – DEF/2000 – DEF/1000

"Quite a pity it is, Kaiba. But you can't use that effect once her Defence Points reach zero. Of course, I am aware of that. It is my turn! I draw!" Siegfried commented. He seemed to have regained his confidence now that Brunhilde was out on the field. "I switch Valkyrie Brunhilde into Attack Mode! From my hand, I activate the Equipment Magic, Spirit Sword – Nothung!" Siegfried declared. Ride of the Valkyries started to play once more as Brunhlde drew her sword before it changed to Nothung. "When this sword is equipped, all Dragon-Type Monsters on the opponent's field are removed from the game!" Siegfried declared.

Nothung began to glow purple and lighting bolts shot out from it in order to hit Blue-Eyes White Dragon who was quickly shattered into pieces as gasps of surprise were ripped form the lungs of the people surrounding me and my own lungs as well. Yugi couldn't believe what had just happened to Blue-Eyes and Mokuba called out to Seto, worried for what was going to happen to him now; Siegfried revealed that Brunhilde would also gain four hundred Attack Points thanks to Nothung.

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/2100 – ATK/2500

"But because Nothung destroy Blue-Eyes, Brunhilde will also suffer from a loss of Attack Points as well. Of course, with the current Attack Power that would hardly matter," Mum spoke. I looked at Katherine and saw that she had recovered from her shock and was now calmly starting at the Duel Arena, implying that her sixth sense told her that Siegfried wasn't about to win this Duel on this turn.

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/2500 – ATK/2200

"The power of Nothung does not end there. It can destroy all Dragon-Type Monsters in battle and not take any damage at all. Yes, this blade is known as the 'Dragon Slaying Sword'! In addition, I activate a Magic card from my hand! I invoke Pegasus Wing! This card can be activated when Fortune Chariot lies in the Graveyard. A Monster with 'Valkyrie' in its' name can Direct Attack the opposing player this turn with half its' Attack Points!" Siegfried declared. As a result of the Magic card, Brunhilde's horse proceeded to gain wings.

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/2200 – ATK/1100

"But you should also know what the set card I've played is," Seto pointed out. Siegfried didn't seem to care about the trap awaiting him since he considered the prospect of slicing of five hundred and fifty Life Points worth the price and commanded the dark blue haired woman to attack; the horse took flight. "Reverse card, open! Shrink!" Seto declared.

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/1100 – ATK/550

"Pay it no mind!" Siegfried commanded. Brunhilde followed the command and carried on before swinging her sword through Seto which left him with barely any Life Points in the process and I felt like a cold sweat had just broken out across my body at the corner that Seto had been repeatedly shoved into because of Siegfried.

Seto – LP: 1100 – LP: 550

"Brother!" Mokuba cried. As for Seto he was holding onto the podium and shaking slightly which I had never expected to see at all, especially when Seto wasn't Dueling Yami, Brunhilde returned to Siegfried's side of the field as the pink haired man proceeded to claim that the epilogue was drawing near before speaking about having longed for this day for a long time; this caused me to raise an eyebrow in confusion.

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/550 – ATK/2200

"Yes. I've wanted you to disappear ever since that day. Even back when your father, Kaiba Gozaburo, was still CEO, as both our companies excelled in military trading, my family's Schroeder Company was always under your pressure. To my father, that was the greatest humiliation, it was unreasonable for the supreme Schroeders to be beaten by a company like yours. As the successor, I wanted to surpass Kaiba Corporation. No, I wanted to surpass the next successor, Kaiba Seto. I not only wanted to surpass, I wanted to hand you a complete and utter defeat! However, as my father began to compete against Kaiba Corporation again and again, my Schroeder Company began to drop in performance day after day. My father went crazy from the shock and fatigue, he was consumed by it. Keeping my father's name intact, I took control of the Schroeder Company as the new CEO. The first thing I did was get rid of the military department and, inspired by George Hope, I entered into a new area of the gaming industry. I was willing to ruin my own life if it meant getting rid of the hatred I had for Kaiba Corporation. But…," Siegfried revealed.

"Oh, talk about bad luck timing," Mum commented. I nodded my head in agreement, it was no wonder I hadn't heard news of the von Schroeders' company, they'd been in military as well and were respectful enough to leave my family alone whilst Gozaburo had been an infuriating pest, always bothering us. "Business is a harsh world, but this is the worst case I've ever heard of," Mum admitted.

"After that, in order to walk out of your shadow, I devoted myself to game development day after day. Finally, the Duel Monsters Duel Box System I had most confidence in was developed successfully. However… I was too late. With the funding of your Solid Vision System just a step behind, you stole my chance from me with one shake of your hand!" Siegfried declared. Yugi was stunned by the news as I sighed sadly, looking downwards at the news. "But fate is finally smiling down on me now. Now that the Kaiba Corporation's stock prices have fallen considerably and my defeating you during this time where civilians have lost trust in your company. Even Pegasus and George will give up on you and form new partnerships with us Schroeders," Siegfried claimed.

"Don't go deciding what our family will do!" Me, Mum and Katherine all snapped at once. Siegfried looked down and seemed surprised to see us there, angry expression pressed upon our faces, dad and Uncle Pegasus wouldn't lose much if Seto lost since Duel Monsters would still have had a better reputation now, but they also weren't such terrible people as to abandon a partnership with someone they knew, especially dad since he was more a father to Seto and Mokuba than Gozaburo could ever be.

"Is that your aim?" Seto asked. Siegfried claimed that Seto couldn't deny that the success of Kaiba Corporation was riding on the success of this tournament. "So what if it does?" Seto asked. His head was tilted slightly and none of us could see his eyes with Siegfried being stunned by the words that had been spoken. "You keep going on and on about your hatred for me and all, but that has absolutely nothing to do with me! Those empty words you muttered didn't move me one bit! Let me show you the difference between us as Duelists!" Seto declared. "My turn! Draw!" Seto declared. He pulled two cards free but didn't discard any, that was a relief. "From my hand, I activate a Magic card, Angel's Charity. I draw three cards from the Deck and discard two from my hand!" Seto declared.

He quickly drew the cards that he was allowed to pull free, Jounouchi actually congratulated this move since he'd be safe from Nibelung's Ring discarding effect, this was the start of Seto's counterattack. Seto revealed that he was discarding a trap and his third Blue-Eyes surprising Siegfried and I was curious as to what Seto was up to by sacrificing his favourite Monster.

"In addition, by removing the Blue-Eyes and Jet Black Dragon in my Graveyard from play, I Special Summon Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End in Attack Position!" Seto declared. My eyes practically dropped form the sockets and rolled across the floor at those words as the Monster was projected onto the field.

Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End – Attribute: Dark, Type: Dragon, Level: 8, ATK/3000, DEF/2500

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/2200 – ATK/2500

"That's useless! There's no dragon that the Spirit Sword can't conquer!" Siegfried claimed. This dragon could though, it was a part of a special duo of Monsters that had powerful Effects, Seto proceeded to explain that Chaos Emperor Dragon sent all card in both players' hands and on the field to the Graveyard. "But in order to activate that ability you need to use one thousand Life Points. Your Life Points-," Siegfried began to argue. However, Seto quickly cut him off.

"I set one more card. In addition, I activate the Instant Magic, Emergency Provisions. I get to regain one thousand Life Points by destroying one Magic and Trap card in my field," Seto revealed. Siegfried was shocked by this as the newly set face down was promptly destroyed which quickly raised Seto's Life Points to over the necessary limit for him to use Chaos Emperor Dragon's Effect.

Seto – LP: 550 – LP: 1550

"I then use one thousand Life Points to activate the Special Effect of Chaos Emperor Dragon! Destroy everything!" Seto commanded. As he spoke, the demonic looking dragon proceeded to gather fire within its' maw. "Cemetery of Fire!" Seto declared. At those words, the fire spilled free and quickly spread out to cover the entirety of the Duel Arena.

Seto – LP: 1550 – LP: 550

The flames spread and with every card that was touched by the flames, it was quickly destroyed in a burst of pixels, rendering the field completely clean of everything; no Traps, Magic or Monsters were safe from that effect unless it could grant protection abilities like some of Katherine's cards. Seto also tacked on that technically Siegfried was going to be dealt three hundred points of damage for every card that was sent to the Graveyard just now, that was a hell of a Special Effect to be on the receiving end off.

Siegfried – LP: 2600 – LP: 1100

"How's that? I bet you can't hear fate whispering to you anymore," Seto stated. Siegfried was enraged by this and proceeded to get on with his turn, angrily drawing a card from his Deck which he proceeded to activate, it was Pot of Greed and allowed him to draw two more cards free, giving him a chance to replenish his hand slightly.

"Then I activate a Permanent Magic from my hands, Alms of Magic Power. This card allows me to regain one thousand Life Points the moment its' activated," Siegfried revealed. I felt my lips twitch at that since it had nearly erased all the hard work Seto put in to lower his Life Points in the first place. "In addition, at every turn, each player must predict how many Magic cards they will use and both players will regain five hundred Life Points for each Magic card that appears," Siegfried added on.

Siegfried – LP: 1100 – LP: 2100

"However, when the number used is less than predicted, both will suffer one thousand points of damage per card. I predict that I will use one card!" Siegfried declared. That meant the card within in hand had to be a Magic card otherwise he wouldn't have made that kind of declaration since he might not be able to refill his hand.

Seto – LP: 550 – LP: 1050

Siegfried – LP: 2100 – LP: 2600

"I then activate a Magic card from my hand, Light of the Final Scene! By paying one thousand Life Points, I can Special Summon one Light Attribute Monster from the Graveyard! Revive Brunhilde!" Siegfried declared. The dark blue haired woman returned to the field, her shield fully repaired which meant her Defence Points were back to normal after her brief vacation in the Graveyard.

Siegfried – LP: 2600 – LP: 1600

"The opposing player can also Special Summon one monster with Attack Points of two thousand or less," Siegfried explained. Seto decided that he was going to Special Summon a Monster known as Grand Dragon in Attack Mode, it would at least be a damage sponge for Brunhilde's attack so that Seto wouldn't lose too many Life Points. "Due to Brunhilde's Effect, she gains three hundred Attack Points for every Dragon-type Monsters on the field!" Siegfried reminded.

Grand Dragon – Attribute: Wind, Type: Dragon, Level: 4, ATK/2000, DEF/100

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/1800 – ATK/2100

"Valkyrie Brunhilde, attack Grand Dragon!" Siegfried commanded. The Valkyrie rode forward and proceeded to swing her blade through the Monster thus causing it to be destroyed by the attack. "Looks like the tables have turned, Kaiba," Siegfried claimed. It was only a small amount of damage and I'm certain that Seto would be able to succeed. "Turn end," Siegfried stated.

Seto – LP: 1050 – LP: 950

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/2100 – ATK/1800

"My turn! Draw! I predict that I will use four Magic cards!" Seto declared. Siegfried was stunned by those words, but I was certain that the brunette wouldn't have made that declaration without first having drawn the necessary card to increase his hand first, we'd just have to wait and see if Seto could pull it off completely or how far he would end up falling short.

Seto – LP: 950 – LP: 2950

Siegfried – LP: 1600 – LP: 3600

"That's right, I'll destroy you with those four cards," Seto stated. Siegfried actually seemed to be on the verge of panicking at how confident Seto seemed to be regarding his declaration. "This will be the first! From my hand I activate the Magic card, Life Shaving Treasure Cards of Heaven! I can draw until I have five cards in my hand! And I must then discard my entire hand into the Graveyard after five turns!" Seto declared. With that, he proceeded to draw the five cards free. "The second, from my hand, I activate the Magic card Soul Release! Both players can select up to five cards from the Graveyard and remove them from the game. I select Chaos Emperor Dragon from the Graveyard and remove it! The third is, from my hand, I activate Spell Reproduction. By sending two Magic cards to the Graveyard, I get to add one Magic card from the Graveyard back to my hand! And the fourth! I use two thousand Life Points to activate Dimension Fusion from my hand!" Seto announced.

Seto – LP: 2950 – LP: 950

"With this, both players may Special Summon all their Monsters removed from play!" Seto declared. His Duel Disk's Monster zone was completely filled by the Monsters he'd brought back with each of them being a Dragon and allowing a roar to echo from their maws; but it also caused Brunhilde's Special Effect to activate.

Emerald Dragon – Attribute: Wind, Type: Dragon, Level: 6, ATK/2400, DEF/1400

"You fool! Brunhilde gains Attack Points for every Dragon you play! Against Brunhilde, no Dragon you play stands a chan-," Siegfried began to gloat. Even though Brunhilde had managed to gain an impressive amount of power thanks to the Special Effect she had, Seto must have had some idea of how to get passed it, otherwise he wouldn't have brought out so many Dragons, I certainly know I wouldn't have and neither would Yami for that matter.

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/1800 – ATK/3300

"Emerald Dragon, attack Brunhilde!" Seto commanded. The command had silence Siegfried which caused me to raise an eyebrow in confusion as that attack was tantamount to near suicide due to the difference in points value, Emerald Dragon flew forward and Brunhilde leapt up to meet it, slicing her sword through the dragon with ease and practically eliminating Seto's Life Points.

Seto – LP: 950 – LP: 50

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/3300 – ATK/3000

"He's only got fifty of his Life Points left!" Anzu exclaimed. All of us were in shock by the crazy move that Seto had just executed in front of us, with Mokuba being worried about what the brunette could possibly be up to; Siegfried even went as far as to ask if Seto had gone mad, I glanced down at Katherine who kept looking ahead, a blank mask firmly on her face perhaps to give nothing away.

"As the number of Dragons decreases, Brunhilde's Attack Points went down!" Jounouchi noticed. Seto quickly followed up by ordering Chaos Emperor Dragon to attack Brunhilde this time around; their attack points were equal so it would normally be a double knockout but as Brunhilde raised her shield and deflected the flames back to Chaos Emperor Dragon, I knew that Siegfried had used her Defence orientated ability to rescue her from danger.

Valkyrie Brunhilde – ATK/3000 – ATK/2700, DEF/2000 – DEF/1000

"Blue-Eyes White Dragon, attack Brunhilde!" Seto commanded. This attack would finally be able to deal some damage since Brunhilde had lost enough Attack Points for there to be a difference that was in Seto's favour this time around; the first of the Blue-Eyes opened her mouth and unleashed her Burst Stream of Destruction, but Siegfried sacrificed the remains of Brunhilde's shield in order to keep her on the field.

Siegfried – LP: 3600 – LP: 3300

Valkyrie Brunhilde – DEF/1000 – DEF/0

"With that, Brunhilde can no longer use that Special Effect. Blue-Eyes White Dragon, attack Brunhilde!" Seto declared. The second Blue-Eyes proceeded to do a repeat of the first one, allowing her attack to cleave through the air and shatter apart the last line of defence that Siegfried had keeping him safe and with it I knew the end of the Duel was here.

Siegfried – LP: 3300 – LP: 3000

"By the way, yes Seto wins," Katherine chimed. I grinned at her words as everyone else around us seemed to relax, Seto commanded his last Blue-Eyes to attack – referring to it as a requiem for Siegfried – the attack flew over and slammed into Siegfried point blank, the man shocked by the outcome that had befallen him despite how well he had planned out his Deck's combos.

Siegfried – LP: 3000 – LP: 0

"Hmph… in the end, a rat will always be a rat. There's no way it could beat me, the king of all animals!" Seto stated.
