The next day at Hexside, Luz, Amity, and Hunter were sitting together in the cafeteria during their lunch break, and the three of them were discussing the same topic: Eda and Raine.
"So, we're all in agreement that Eda's still got the hots for Raine", Luz asked.
"And vice-versa", Amity asked, "we sure are."
"I mean, it's pretty obvious", Hunter said, "how can anyone not see that those two have feelings for each other?"
"I know", Luz said, "makes me feel kind of bad about missing the signs that Amity had a crush on me."
"It's okay, Luz", Amity said, "it's all in the past."
"Yeah, I guess so", Luz said.
"The important thing is that eventually, we managed to get together", Amity said, "and now, we're pretty much a power couple."
"You're right", Luz said, "and that's what I want for Eda and Raine."
"So do I", Amity said.
"Me too", Hunter said, "but what would we even do to bring those two together?"
"I don't know", Luz said, "but if we put our heads together, I'm sure we can come up with something that just might work."
Just then, the bell screamed to mark the end of lunch, and Luz and the Clawthorne siblings got up so they could go to their next classes for the day.
"Okay, here's what we'll do", Luz said, "let's try and think of as many ideas as we can, and then later, we'll start putting together a plan."
"Will do", Amity said.
"Got it", Hunter said.
The trio went and put their empty lunch trays away, and as they made their way out of the cafeteria, Luz began to wonder about something.
"You know", Luz said, "there's one thing about Eda and Raine that I just don't get."
"What is it", Hunter asked.
"If they were so inseparable, how come they broke up", Luz asked.
"I don't know", Amity said, "there's no telling what could've happened between then."
"She's right", Hunter said, "it could've been anything, for all we know."
"Well, still, I can't help but wonder why those two would end such a great romance", Luz said.
Meanwhile, at the Owl House, Eda was in her room looking through a box containing items from her youth.
"Wow", Eda said, "it's crazy that one box can hold so many memories."
The items in the box were all things from Eda's romantic relationship with Raine, such as photographs of her with them and gifts and cards that they had sent to her.
"We did have a pretty good thing going on", Eda said, "I just wish it didn't have to end the way it did."
She then began to remember an event that took place several years ago that still made her hurt to this day.
Flashback
Eda and Raine were both young adults, and the two of them were sitting together on the top of a hill, with the latter feeling sad about something.
"I don't understand", Raine said, "why are you lying to me?"
"What, me, lying", Eda asked, "I'm not lying to you."
"Yes you are", Raine said, "it's like I don't even know you."
Hearing that made Eda feel upset.
"So, I've made a decision", Raine said, "I'm joining the Bard coven, and I think we should see other people."
A look of surprise appeared on Eda's face as her partner said that.
"I'm sorry, Eda", Raine said, "it's over."
Suddenly, Eda began to gasp and goan, so she turned away from Raine, and she noticed that her hands were growing claws and feathers, and she suddenly let out a growl that sounded like the Owl Beast, much to Raine's concern.
"Are you okay", Raine asked, "is this the curse?"
Eda let out a nervous laugh as she tried to hide what was happening.
"It's fine, everything's normal", Eda said, "you can leave now."
Raine had had just about enough of Eda keeping stuff from them.
"I can't do this anymore", Raine said.
They turned around and walked away, and Eda was left feeling miserable and heartbroken as she transformed into the Owl Beast.
End Flashback
As Eda finished remembering what was one of the worst things that's ever happened to her, she looked at a picture of her and Raine from when the two of them were young adults, and tears began to fill her eyes, one of them escaping and landing on the photo, and it wasn't long before she began to cry.
"It was all my fault", Eda said, "I should've just told them!"
She put the picture back inside the box and walked over to her nest, then got inside it and continued crying.
"I shouldn't have pushed Raine away", Eda said, "if I had just told them about the curse and let them help me, we never would have broken up."
She wiped some of her tears away and began to sadly stare up at the ceiling.
"I wish I could tell them how I feel about them", Eda said, "but I just don't have it in me."
Later that day, Luz, Amity, and Hunter had gotten out of school and were making their way to the Owl House with a plan to bring Eda and Raine together.
"So", Luz said, "we're all in agreement about the plan?"
"Yep", Amity said, "I think it sounds like a pretty good idea."
"Me too", Hunter said, "and we did a good job putting it all together."
"Couldn't have said it better myself", Luz said, "now it's time to put it into action."
The three of them soon arrived at the house and went inside, and Eda, who was reading a book on the couch, noticed them enter.
"Hey, kids", Eda said, "welcome home."
"Thanks, Eda", Luz said.
"So, how was school", Eda asked.
"Pretty good", Luz said, "I got top marks in my demonstration for the Beastkeeping track."
"I got a 100 on my Abomination track exam", Amity said.
"And I got my grade back for that project I did in the Potion track", Hunter said, "I got an A."
"Nice", Eda said, "sounds like you three had a pretty good day."
"We sure did", Luz said.
"What about you, Mom", Amity asked, "what did you do today?"
"Oh, nothing much", Eda said, "just mostly hung around the house watching the crystal ball and drinking apple blood."
"That sounds nice, I guess", Amity said.
"So, what are our plans for this evening", Luz asked.
"Nothing special", Eda said, "why do you ask?"
"Because I had an idea for something you could do tonight", Luz said.
"What is it", Eda asked.
"Why don't you go out for the night", Luz said, "you know, get together with a friend and go have a night on the town."
"That's right", Amity said, "I mean, when was the last time you had a night out?"
"I guess that sounds a good idea", Eda said, "but who would I hang out with?"
"Well, there's Aunt Lilith", Amity said, "she might be willing to take a break from her duties as Emperor to spend some time with you."
"And there's also Camilla", Hunter said, "I bet she'd enjoy a night out with you."
"And how about your old buddy, Raine Whispers", Luz said.
"Raine", Eda asked.
"Yeah", Luz said, "how long has it been since you guys actually met up to do something together?"
"I guess it has been a while, now that you mention it", Eda said.
"Then why don't you change that", Luz said, "give Raine a call and ask if they want to do something with you tonight."
"You might end up having a pretty good time with them", Hunter said.
"I guess a night out with Raine wouldn't hurt", Eda said, "I'll go call them and ask them if they want to meet up with me so we can..."
Suddenly, Eda began to realize what the kids were trying to do, and she managed to catch on to their plan.
"Oh, no", Eda said, "nice try, but I know what you guys are doing."
"What are you talking about", Luz asked, "we're just suggesting that you go out and have some fun tonight."
"That's what you want me to think", Eda said, "but really, you're just trying to get me to spend time with Raine as part of some plan to get us together."
Luz tried to come up with a response to Eda's assumption, but she couldn't think of anything good.
"Yeah, that's pretty much it", Luz said.
"We just thought maybe it would be nice if you two got back together", Amity said, "don't you want to experience the feeling of being with the one you love again?"
"I mean, that does sound nice", Eda said, "but Raine and I ended our relationship on pretty bad terms, and I'm not sure we should be getting back together after what happened."
"But you still love them", Luz said, "don't you get it?"
"If there's one thing I learned from loving Luz, it's that when you love someone, you need to be open up your heart and tell them how you feel", Amity said, "I mean, look where that got me."
She put her arm around Luz's shoulder to illustrate her point, and her girlfriend smiled about it.
"I get what you're saying, kiddo", Eda said, "but I just can't do it."
Eda got up and began to walk away, and then said one more thing to the kids before she left.
"Besides", Eda said, "it's probably for the best."
She went upstairs to her room, and Luz and the Clawthorne siblings were left feeling disappointed that their plan didn't work.
"Well, so much for that idea", Hunter said, "now what?"
"It's time for plan B", Luz said, "we're gonna have to take matters into our own hands."
"So, it's come down to that, hasn't it", Amity said.
"Yes", Luz said, "we have to do this for Eda's sake."
"I'm in", Hunter said.
"Me too", Amity said.
"Great", Luz said, "so, here's the plan..."
Meanwhile, at the Whispers residence, Raine, who was staying with Raymond until they could find their own place to live, was looking out their bedroom door at a nearby hill that was just like the one from Eda's flashback.
"I remember when me an Eda used to have picnics up on top of that hill", Raine said, "it feels like that was so long ago."
They imagined them and Eda as young adults sitting on the hill together enjoying some fairy pies, and Raine put their hand over Eda's, which caused the two of them to blush when they looked at each other, but the memory faded away when Raine began to remember another event that took place on that hill.
"If only our last memory we made there wasn't one that still haunts me to this day", Raine said.
They got up and walked away from the window and sighed sadly as they remembered the day when they and Eda broke up.
"I wish we didn't have to end things the way we did", Raine said, "life just wasn't the same after Eda and I broke up."
Raine walked over to their bed and sat down on it, and began to think about Eda some more.
"If only I could tell her that I never stopped loving her", Raine said, "but I don't have the courage to do it."
They lied down on their bed sadly and looked at a picture of their late mother, Britt, that was on their nightstand.
"I wish you were here, Mom", Raine said, "you'd be able to help me figure out what I should do."
Outside the window, a mysterious figure was observing Raine and waiting for the right moment to make its move.
