A/n: I was watching ATLA and this idea popped into my head. I'm not very good at writing platonic love so bare with me lol.

Name: Azalee

Age: 13(without factoring in how long she was in the iceberg with Aang)

Bending style: Airbender

Air temple: Southern

Personality: Kind, compassionate, self conscious, selfless, tends to blame herself for things that aren't her fault, helpful, kind of oblivious at times, and is definitely going to sacrifice her own safety to save another no matter who they are

Appearance: big and round gray eyes that you could easily get lost in, waist length silky black hair and bangs, arrow tattoos like Aang's, the arrow on her forehead pokes out from underneath her bangs, pale skin, a scar on the bottom on her left foot and the palm of her left hand from when she took the hit of Azula's lightning, her smile lights up a room immediately (Aang makes sure she knows that she's beautiful and amazing.), and she's 5'1 (for reasons I'm changing Aang's height to 5'4)

It's been a year since the war ended. Aang came up behind Azalee and hugged her. She smiled and turned around. "Hey Aang!" He smiled back. "I'm glad you came with me when I ran away… if you had stayed, you would've been assassinated like the rest of the airbenders…" He says quietly and his grip on his best friend got tighter. Azalee's eyes teared up. She gripped onto him tightly and rubbed his back. "I wish we didn't run away though… we could've protected the rest of the air nomads…" A few tears dripped down her face. He pulled away enough to see her face and wiped the tears from under her eyes. "All that matters now is that we have each other, and the rest of our friends…" He said and smiled softly. She smiled back and rubbed the rest of the tears out of her eyes. "You're so beautiful…" He says and she blushes (they may be platonic but friends still do stuff like this. Not just couples lol). She smiles shyly and Aang can't help but smile back.

"Aang say the line!" A kid from the fire nation said happily. Aang smiled at him, since that play that the fire nation made, people have thought that he really has to say 'Avatar State! Yip yip!' to go into the Avatar State. "Avatar State! Yip yip!" He says and the kid cheers. Appa came behind him and licked him. He was lifted up off the ground and started laughing. Azalee pulled him up into Appa's saddle while laughing. Azalee had some slobber on her as well, signaling that Appa had licked her as well. He wiped her cheek and she smiled. "You wanna go for a fly with me?" She asked with a small smirk and Aang smirked as well and nodded. They both pulled out their gliders. "Last one to the other side of town is a rotten egg~!" She yelled while flying away. Aang's eyes widened and he realized what just happened. He quickly tried to catch up to Azalee. She ended up winning and smirked at Aang when he finally got there. "Looks like I win… again." She said and Aang chuckled. "Yep.. heh…" He said and rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "Wanna go visit Zuko?" Aang asked and she nodded. He smiled and grabbed her hand.

When they arrived (they were in a different part of the fire nation) people were running around in a panic. Azalee looked at Aang. "What's going on?" She asked anxiously. One of the citizens approached them. "Avatar thank goodness you're here! Princess Azula escaped prison!" She said in a scared voice. The pair looked at each other nervously after the lady ran away from them. They heard an evil laugh from behind them. Azalee tensed up and turned around. "A-Aang… you might wanna turn around…" She said and he turned around. When he saw Azula he stepped forward and took a protective stance in front of Azalee. Azula smirked. "Hmm… so the Avatar has someone that he deems especially special…" She said while eyeing Azalee. Her eyes widened and suddenly Azula was holding her by her neck. She created a fire dagger and held it to Azalee's neck. Aang couldn't react in time. Azula had already run away with Azalee. He knew that if she had enough time to react she would've airbended her way out of that situation. "...Azzy…" he muttered under his breath. Tears rolled down his cheeks. Aang runs to the palace. Guards get in front of the palace doors. "I need to speak to the firelord." They moved out of the way when they realized it was Aang. He runs to the throne room and the flood gates start flowing. Zuko stands up and his eyes widen. "Aang what happened?!" Aang looked up at his friend. "Azula escaped from prison… she kidnapped Azalee…" He said through his tears and Zuko's eyes widened and his mouth was agape.

Azula tied Azalee to a chair, locking her hands to the chair arms and her legs to the legs of the chair. She put a gag over her mouth so she wouldn't be able to talk or use her mouth to airbend. Azalee's eyes teared up and she looked Azula in the eyes. Her eyebrows furrowed. "I bet you think the Avatar is gonna come save you. You're wrong. He doesn't care about you. He's only friends with you because he feels bad for you. Why would anyone want to be friends with someone as weak as you? Especially someone as high class as the Avatar." Azalee's heart shattered. She always knew that she didn't deserve Aang. She knows that he really cares about her, but she can't help but believe Azula's words. Tears poured down her cheeks and she struggled in the chair. Azula smirked and sent a blast of blue fire her way. She braced herself for the burning sensation. It still sent her into a catastrophic pain when it came though and she started making incoherent sounds while she was screaming from the pain.

It's been a month since Azalee went missing. Aang has looked all over the fire nation with no luck. There was one place he hadn't checked yet though and that was the cave in the woods where he and his friends met Hama. He went in and earthbended his way through the cave. He finally found where Azula was keeping his best friend. When he saw her though… her eyes… they were so dull… so lifeless… they didn't hold the happiness and liveliness that kept him from going insane during the war. He made eye contact with her. He hoped that seeing him would bring back at least some of the sparkle in her eyes. Nope. They stayed dull and lifeless. His own eyes darkened and his eyebrows furrowed. Few things could take the smile off Azalee's face and the sparkle from her eyes. Azula made a fireball and held it towards Azalee. Aang sent a powerful gust of wind towards Azula and she slammed into the wall of the cave. He used his staff to send more gusts of wind her way and he tried to get Azalee free. He got the gag off of her. "You don't have to do this… I know you're only friends with me because you feel bad for me… why else would the great Avatar Aang be friends with a weak airbender like me…" His heart broke into a million pieces at her words. It felt like someone was squeezing his heart when he saw how broken she looked. He melted the clamps on the chair and blasted fire at Azula. She passed out. Aang picked Azalee up bridal style and rushed out of the cave, he tightened his grip on her so he wouldn't drop her. Zuko and Katara were waiting outside of the cave. "Get her back to town… Katara, heal her wounds…" He said seriously and gave Azalee to them. They nodded their heads.

Aang ran back into the cave. He was going to take away Azula's bending. Azalee wanted to run away from Zuko and Katara to go help Aang. She knew that for one, they wouldn't let her, and another thing, she thinks Aang would get mad at her and stop being her friend entirely. She loves Aang and doesn't want to stop being his friend, despite her beliefs that he doesn't care about her and he's only friends with her because he feels bad for her. She managed to escape her friends. "Azzy!" They both yelled as she ran into the cave. When she found Aang, Azula was preparing to strike him. He didn't look ready to redirect it. He was distracted by his thoughts. She quickly ran in front of him and the lightning struck just below her heart. Aang looked shell-shocked. She just took another strike for him… She staggered a little then fell to her knees, she passed out. Tears filled Aang's eyes. He ran over and pulled Azalee's body into his lap. His tears fell onto her face. His face twisted with anger and looked at Azula. "If she's dead… you made the biggest mistake of your life…" (For those of you thinking, "Oh he could just check her pulse!" He wasn't thinking very rationally. I know my first thought wouldn't be "Oh let me check the pulse of this person that just risked their life for me!" I would want to pull them into my arms and thank them. So uhm yea)

Aang used earthbending to lean Azula back and keep her tied to the ground. He placed his hand in the center of her forehead and his other hand just above her chest. He bent the energy of him and Azula. Blue light came out of his eyes and mouth while orange came out of Azula's eyes and mouth. Their entire bodies turned their respective color. The orange started going to Aang. Before it could completely consume him the blue shot back over his body and consumed Azula's as well. "What did you do to me?!" She asked when he got finished. "I took away your bending… for good." He said then walked away while dragging Azula behind him. He picked up Azalee and put her on his back. He came out of the cave and Katara and Zuko were still there. They had worried looks on their faces when they saw Azalee. He explained what happened and how he thought the strike hit her in the heart. "I can still hear her breathing though so I don't think I hit her heart so that's good…" He said worriedly but smiled slightly at the end. They put Azula into a much more secure prison than before. They made sure that there would always be guards nearby so that if she tried to escape again she wouldn't be able to.

It's been three weeks and Azalee hasn't woken up yet. Aang is getting really worried. He's barely gotten any sleep since he saved her. He hasn't left her side once. Katara and Sokka walk over to them(Sokka and Toph were busy with stuff and they were finally able to come). "Aang… please. You need to sleep, and you've barely eaten…" Katara said and Aang looked at them with sunken eyes. "If she knew you were doing this to yourself because of her she wouldn't like it… you of all people should know that." Sokka said. "Azzy said something that really worried me when I was rescuing her… she said that I didn't have to do this… she knows I'm only friends with her because I feel bad for her… why else would the great Avatar Aang be friends with a weak airbender like her… which is ridiculous… of course I care about her. She's one of my main priorities. She's always understood how I've felt. She was there for me when I didn't want to kill Ozai. She understood exactly why I didn't want to kill him. I can't believe Guru Pathik wanted me to let my love for her go. I could never." (He meant love in a platonic way. Just thought I would clear that up lol)

Azalee woke up in the middle of his explanation. "Aang… please don't lie like that. I know how you really feel." She said sadly. Aang looked at her, eyes wide. "I wasn't lying… did Azula convince you I don't care about you?" He asked and his voice was a bit angry. She flinched back slightly then winced from the pain. She nodded her head and Aang looked at her with a concerned look. "I'm fine…" She said with a small smile. Aang hugged her carefully and they both started to cry. Katara and Sokka started crying and joined the hug. Toph and Zuko had come in and joined the hug. A few tears came out of their eyes. They all smiled at Azalee. The sparkle and liveliness returned to her eyes and she smiled back.
