Chapter 1: The Cure

Somewhere on the outskirts of Cyberspace, there exists an uncharted cybersite in which Dr. Marbles had been working in a secret lab. For the past several years, he'd been working day and night in hiding whilst searching for a cure to Motherboard's virus.

After years of research, Dr. Marbles had been working on what would later be a remastered version of the encryptor chip. Only this version would not only cure her from her virus, but it would also fully protect Motherboard from getting any other viruses permanently.

"Once this device is completed and installed, Motherboard will be back to her old self for good, and Cyberspace will be finally safe from Hacker!" Dr. Marbles proclaimed.

"Just let me turn this final bolt, and….. Yes! After years of working, I've remade the encryptor chip!"

Dr. Marbles quickly and carefully placed the newly created encryptor chip in a small black case for safety measures. He then ran outside of the lab and jumped into his cybercoupe. As he flew through Cyberspace, he decided to call Motherboard on his wristband and tell her the good news.

"Motherboard, Come in Motherboard!" He repeated.

"Dr. Marbles? What's going on? Is everything okay?" Motherboard repetitively asked worriedly.

"Don't worry, I'm completely fine!" Dr. Marbles reassured her. "But I'm going to need you to call the rest of the Cybersquad."

"Certainly, but why?"

"The encryptor chip has been completed!" Dr. Marbles spoke happily.

….

Meanwhile inside the Northern Frontier, Buzz and Delete stood by a slightly opened door, which behind it was Hacker working in his laboratory working on another one of his plans to get rid of Motherboard and rule over Cyberspace.

However, Hacker had been telling them that unlike his previous plans, while this one was more complicated, it was more certain to work. He wouldn't go into deeper explanation however, as he didn't want the two to be part of the plan for fear they would mess it up like how they always did.

While Hacker continued to work on his plan, Buzz, who was standing on Delete's shoulders, lost his balance. Resulting in the two to fall over and pushed the door wide open. Them hitting the floor with a loud thump, alongside the door bursting open immediately caught the attention of their boss, who turned around and stared at them with a large amount of fury in his eyes.

"Err, Can't you duncebuckets see that I'm in the middle of something important?!" Hacker scowled.

"S-Sorry boss, we just wanted to see what you were doing." Delete said sheepishly while Buzz nodded.

Hacker let out a large sigh. "Well, as you know I'm working on a way to take over Cyberspace and-"

"Yeah, we know about that part. But how exactly are you going to take over Cyberspace this time?" Buzz asked.

"Yeah, come on boss, please tell us. We promise we won't mess it up!" Delete begged.

"Yeah, come on boss!"

Hacker sighed some more. "Fine! As you know, those earth brats come here by Motherboard from the real world on earth, right?"

"Yeah?" Buzz and Delete weren't sure where Hacker was going.

"Well, if the earth brats can't get into Cyberspace, then they can't stop me from taking over, right?"

"Wait a minute, Isn't this going to be like that time during Halloween when we were at R-Fair City, and you managed to trap the Cybersquad in by crashing Motherboard's portal system with that portal freezing thingy?" Delete asked.

"Not quite." Hacker spoke softly. "You see, even if I were to destroy Motherboard's portal system and trap them in their own world for good, they would somehow still manage to find a way to fix it."

"Then, what are you going to do boss?" Buzz asked.

"Well, If I were to find a way to get rid of them for good, I won't have to worry about them foiling any of my plans. And I can finally take over Cyberspace." Hacker grinned at the thought. "But if I want to accomplish that, I'm going to need to find a way to get in the real world, obviously."

"So how do you plan on doing that boss?" Buzz asked.

"Simple, I've been reworking on an old prototype that can create portals anywhere in Cyberspace. But with some adjustments, I can create a portal that leads to Earth!" Hacker said happily. "I just need some portal dust."

"Ummm, hey boss, by any chance was that small jar of sparkly stuff in the storage closet portal dust?" Delete asked nervously.

"Yes?" Hacker raised his eyebrows in suspension.

Delete nervously continued, "Oh, well you see, I thought that sparkly stuff was glitter. See, I was going to use it to create a sparkly picture of a bunny, but I accidentally knocked it over and spilled it everywhere. So I then had to sweep it up and throw it away."

Upon hearing what had happened, Hacker's face started to turn red with anger. He grabbed the sensitive bot from one of his antennas and brought him over to his eye level. Delete shook with fear as he gazed into Hacker's furious gaze.

"YOU DUNCEBUCKET! I NEEDED THAT SO I COULD GET TO THE REAL WORLD! BUT NOW I CAN'T DO THAT BECAUSE OF YOU! WHY CAN'T YOU DO ANYTHING RIGHT???!!!!" Hacker shouted so loud it could nearly be heard from all over the Northern Frontier.

Hacker continued his rant. Once he was finished, He placed the now tearfully eyed Delete back on his feet. Tears continued down his face as he silently sobbed.

"Well, thanks to Delete, It appears that we'll have to find some more portal dust from somewhere else." Hacker said emotionlessly.

"But where? It's not like we could just go down to the store and buy some more. Portal dust is very rare and no one knows how to make it or where it comes from." Buzz said.

Buzz did have a point. The only person who would even have some portal dust would be Motherboard, Of course Hacker immediately ruled that option out. He thought about whether or not someone else would have any. After quietly thinking to himself while rubbing his chin, an idea came to mind, but one he wasn't a fan of, but had no other choice.

"I think I know someone who wouldn't mind letting us borrow some."

"Who?" Buzz asked.

"Ledge!" He said in a soft, bitter tone.

….

"Shortly after being informed from Motherboard about the encryptor chip's completion, The Cybersquad landed in a large round room with a glass dome above it. In the middle of the room was a giant monitor, which on the screen displayed Motherboard. Hovering right next to her was their good cyber bird companion, Digit.

"Hello earthlings, I suppose you heard the good news?" He smiled as he greeted them.

"Yeah, I can't believe Dr. Marbles finally managed to recreate the encryptor chip." Inez spoke happily.

"Yeah, now we can finally cure Motherboard from her virus!" Matt said.

"Indeed, I am very happy to finally be cured from this awful virus." Motherboard spoke softly.

"Yep, you'll be back to your old self in no time!" Digit proclaimed. "Just as soon as The Doc gets here."

"Wait a minute, What if Hacker finds out Motherboard is cured?" Jackie suddenly thought. "Do you think he'll give her another virus?"

"Don't worry Jackie, Dr. Marbles told me that not only will this cure me from my virus, but it'll help protect me from ever being affected by a virus ever again!" Motherboard assured her.

"Really? That's awesome!" Inez exclaimed.

At that moment, Dr. Marbles opened a large door that led into a long hallway and entered the room. He was carrying a black case.

"Greetings everyone, as you know, I have finally finished working on the final version of the encryptor chip. Now we can finally cure and permanently protect Motherboard from any of Hacker's threats." Dr. Marbles spoke.

"Wait, are you really sure this will actually work?" Jackie spoke skeptically.

"Well, there's only one way to find out!" Matt replied.

Dr. Marbles slowly walked over to Motherboard's control panel and placed the black container on a nearby desk. He carefully opened the container and lifted the encryptor chip. He then turned to where there was an empty slot on the dashboard and carefully placed the encryptor chip inside it, which slid in without any problems.

"How do you feel Motherboard?" Inez quietly asked. Motherboard didn't respond.

Dr. Marbles slowly stepped back as her screen changed to show a downloading screen with a percentage. The Cybersquad stood in silence as they nervously watched the download bar reach the other end.

"Come on, come on!" Digit whispered quietly, hoping that the download would be successful.

After an agonizing amount of time, the download bar finally reached the other end, indicating that the download was complete. But much to everyone's surprise, as soon as it finished, Motherboard's screen turned to static, before finally shutting down. The lights alongside everything else became dimmer. They stood around for a while waiting for Motherboard's screen to come back on. But it never did.

They decided to wait another couple of minutes and wait for her to come back on, but nothing. Soon, they started to get extremely worried, especially Digit.

"Motherboard?" Digit called worriedly. "Motherboard?" "Motherboard!?"

"Do you think she's…. Gone?" Inez asked quietly.

"Relax, I'm sure she'll come back any second now." Matt replied. "Or at least I hope so."

"Oh dear, this wasn't supposed to happen!" Dr. Marbles exclaimed worriedly.

"This is awful! What are we going to do?" Jackie started to panic.

"We shouldn't panic!" Dr. Marbles yelled. "Panicking won't help us solve the situation."

"Well, how are we going to fix Motherboard?" Digit asked, tears starting to form in his eyes.

Inez moved over towards Digit to help him feel better. But before she could say anything, Motherboard's screen suddenly came back on. Her face was much brighter and healthier than before. The lights were back, even Cyberspace had more stars in the sky. Pretty soon, everything was running smoother than ever.

"Oh my! After all this time, I'm finally cured!" Motherboard spoke happily. "Thank you so much Dr. Marbles."

It wasn't much of an issue, and I'm always at your service, Motherboard." Dr. Marbles replied happily.

"I would also like to thank you Cybersquad. With your help, Cyberspace will continue to be safe from Hacker. Although I'm cured, I know he'll continue to stop at nothing until he has all of Cyberspace at the palm of his hand.

"Don't worry Mother B, you can always count on us!" Jackie exclaimed.

"Yeah, we'll help protect Cyberspace and stop Hacker for as long as it takes!" Matt replied.

"Yeah, because…."

"FOR AS LONG AS WE'RE THE CYBERSQUAD, WE'LL STICK TOGETHER AND NEVER GIVE UP!" Matt, Jackie, Inez and Digit exclaimed as they all formed in a circle and placed their hands on top of one another's.

"Is that supposed to be some sort of cheer you made up?" Dr. Marbles asked.

"Yep, we figured that since we're a team, we should have a team cheer." Jackie explained.

"Yeah, it was actually Nezzie's idea." Matt replied.

"How many times do I have to tell you? Quit calling me Nezzie!" Inez said angerly, before returning to a smile and laughing playfully. Everyone else started to laugh as well.

"But seriously!" Inez added with a stern expression.
