After a few days of not being at Shou's place, one evening the Elric brothers arrived to not find Nina or Alexander.
"Uh, this is weird, they're usually outside playing in the daytime." Alphonse Replied.
"Let's look for them." Edward Replied. Eventually they figured that they were in the basement, they hadn't found them anywhere on the other two floors.
"Well I guess we have no choice, go down in that basement." Alphonse Replied, they both walked down the stairs to hear animals growling. How did we not hear this underneath our feet? Edward thought to himself.
"It's the devils Animal shelter!" Edward gasped.
"I thought you didn't believe in religion." Alphonse Chuckled.
"I don't, but I'm starting to believe in hell." Edward Replied, suddenly he heard someone approaching them, it was Shou Tucker.
"Come on, boys! You're a bit late. I've already finished my pet progeny project." He laughed. He displayed a Chimera before them.
"Great, you put a wig on a dog. Now about the Philosopher's Stone." Edward sighed.
"Brother, I don't think that's a normal dog." Alphonse shivered.
"Perceptive as always, Alphonse. And you Edward. The prodigy boy with the metal limbs. I must thank you. Two years of trial after trial, always missing one small detail." Shou Smiled evilly.
"What are you..." Ed looked at the Chimera and then at Shou, then at Alphonse.
"Age! The subjects were too old. I needed a younger specimen so I found one. Thanks for the tip." Shou Grinned.
"Ed.. ward... big brother Ed, why, did you leave!" The Chimera Said weakly.
"You son of a bitch! Your daughter? Your dog? Your wife?" Alphonse Yelled.
"Very thoughtful, Alphonse! Yes, my old wife! A failure to me even in death. Oh, I know what you're thinking Edward. 'How couldn't I have seen this sooner?' I mean, it's not like I was being subtle. I told you everything. Your brother listened, he even tried to get you to listen but you just wouldn't oblige. So preoccupied with your own ideals. Your own goals. I can relate." Shou smirked.
"Why!" Edward Yelled.
"Why? Why the hell not?" Edward gasped as he recalled what he had said during the Alchemy exam. "So you see, we're the same, you and I! Scientists! We do what we must because we can!"
"SHE WAS YOUR DAUGHTER!" Edward Yelled in anger, he pushed him to the wall, choking his neck in rage.
"And he's your brother! At least she is still flesh and blood. She can feel warm and cold. Your brother is just a tin can! Which one of us is truly more evil?" He cackled. "Who do you think has it worse, Edward? Her or Alphonse?"
"I did that to bring back our mother!" Edward Yelled.
"Don't act like your actions were altruistic Edward, only the living have wants. The dead want nothing. You wanted your mother back, and look what it cost you! Not to mention your poor brother, you selfish little boy! Tell me Alphonse, did you want what happened to you? Or was it merely a side effect of your brother's so-called mistake!"
"We were just young kids trying to bring our mother back. We didn't know the consequences!" Alphonse Yelled.
"See, that's the difference between you and I. Experience. I wanted a better life for my daughter, and I knew what would happen. My daughter is still alive. How's your mother doing!" He Grinned.
"You call what Nina's doing, living?"
"You call what you're doing living. Alphonse? I have an idea. Why don't we dissect both of you and see who still has a heart?" Shou laughed.
"I have a better idea, how about I destroy your face!" Edward Growled, punching Shou in the cheek.
"You say I don't have a heart. That's true, but I'm not heartless and neither is Ed. You think we're the same but we're not. What he did was an accident. What you did was on purpose." Alphonse Yelled.
"Do you want to know a secret, Edward? I wasn't planning on using Nina. I was planning on using YOU! We already know your body can recover from extreme changes. You were young enough. It was perfect!"
"SHUT UP!" Edward Yelled, his mind clouded. Thinking about nothing but revenge. Punching his face till he bled.
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE? What the hell am I looking at!" Said The Officer. "Get him outta here, now!"
"You Listen here Kid! I'm not telling anyone what you did, and you're not telling anyone what Shou did." The Officer Yelled.
"Like hell I'm not! You knew, didn't you! About his wife, and now his daughter! You just don't want it falling on you since he's your protégé." Edward Yelled.
"Now I know you do not want to be talking to a Brigadier General like that, child." He Yelled back.
"Why! Because you have your groupies here to hold me back? The big bad Brigadier, scared of a little child like a little bitch." The Chimera scampered Away to a hallway. A man with a scar on his arm greeted her.
"You didn't ask for this did you." Scar petted The Chimera as she sobbed.
"No, I didn't."
"You're in constant pain are you. What a horrible trategy. Truly I say you will be... in paradise!" His arm glowed and The Chimera exploded.
"Say, where did Nina go?" Alphonse Asked.
"Let's look for her." Edward agreed. "Here girl, come here!" Edward turned his head to look at the hallway, his eyes widened at his shock at what his eyes beheld. "Nina! No!" Edward sobbed, he clapped his hands on the blood splattered wall. But nothing happened. He continuously repeated this action. The rain started to wash away the blood.
"Edward, you should probably stop!" Alphonse Replied.
"If I stop Al that means I accept she's gone! Don't you get it Al, she was my escape, with her around I could be a child again! I can't... I can't accept it!" Edward Yelled. Alphonse tapped Edward on the shoulder. "Hey, Brother. Turn around, Roy's behind you." Edward turned to see Roy standing in the rain.
"What do you want, Colonel!" Edward snapped.
"Come on, quit your moping. It's not gonna do you any good. Just accept it and get on with your life!" Roy said, his words cutting deep into Edward's soul.
"JUST GET ON WITH MY LIFE? How HEARTLESS are you! A little girl had just been murdered. And this is what you have to tell me?" Edward yelled.
"Brother, no. Don't hurt him!" Alphonse replied.
"Don't just wallow in self pity, there's no use Kid. You can't just go around trying to bring every living thing that dies on you back to life Ed. It's not possible and it's not healthy. Anyway, who'd you be helping by bringing back a Chimera? It's an ugly world out there, and from here on out it's only gonna get uglier on the path you've chosen. There's a reason why you became a State Alchemist, right Edward? Can you really afford getting distracted by every little lost cause?" Roy Asked sternly. "It's up to the investigation party now, step aside."
"I can't believe it, after everything we have accomplished in the past, it still wasn't good enough to save a little girl, no amount of alchemy was enough. So what good are we then!" Edward covered his face in his hands as he silently cried. "We may not have done everything right, we may even be cursed as devils, but we know we aren't devils, we're human! We're only human!"
I'm so sorry you guys had to go through that, don't worry, there's more where that came from. Don't worry though it won't be as extreme as this, ciao!
