Angsty Iwaoi story in which Iwa dreams he lost Oikawa to Ushi and sings when I was your man to him.
It had been 6 months. 6 months since him and Oikawa had broken up. He had been isolating himself and ignoring Oikawa, and one day Oikawa had confronted him about it. It had resulted in a big fight between them and they had decided to take a "break." Well the days had turned into weeks, and then months, and at some point they had almost stopped talking completely. Not long later, Ushijima had asked Oikawa out. Iwaizumi had pretended to not care, but really his heart ached for his childhood best friend. He hated the smile that Oikawa gave to Ushijima. He hated the nearly care-free laughter he gave at the jokes of the Shiratorizawa Captain. The only thing he hated more than how happy he sounded was that he knew he could make him happier. But he didn't feel like he deserved that, so he pushed the pain away and didn't say a word. The tension between the two Aoba Johsai third years made practice a little uncomfortable, but no one said a word. No one wanted to be the one who rocked the boat. A few months later they graduated. On the night of their graduation, everyone went to a karaoke bar. Everything was going fine, until Oikawa walked in with Ushijima. At that point, he couldn't take it anymore. He got up from the table and walked over to the karaoke line. 15 minutes later, Iwaizumi stepped onto the stage, gulping from nervousness. He grabbed the microphone with his now sweaty hands and looked out into the crowd. He spotted Oikawa with Ushijima and Tendou, Daichi and Suga sitting with Mattsun and Makki at the table he was previously sat at, and all the other Aoba Johsai members sat between two booths with Yahaba and Kyoutani fighting or flirting (no one can tell). His eyes locked onto Oikawa from the stage. He's not looking at him, but rather laughing with Ushijima over something Tendou said. Iwaizumi breathes deeply as the music starts playing. The room becomes a little more quiet as some people turn to him. Closing his eyes for a second, he starts to sing. He keeps his eyes closed for the first verse, trying not to listen to how much louder his voice felt in the rapidly silencing room. Taking a breath after "too dumb to realize" he opened his eyes to the spot he knew Oikawa would be. In slight surprise, his eyes met Oikawa's as he sang. Neither looked away. He noticed a stray tear slide down his beloved's face even from the stage when he replaced the "she" for "he" at the end of the chorus. Iwaizumi gives a bittersweet smile to Oikawa in the second verse, his own eyes starting to tear up, and a lump starting to form in his throat. He was able to hold it back for the chorus, but he couldn't stop his voice from cracking and tears falling down his face in the bridge. In the last verse, which was just a spinoff of the chorus, his eyes darted back and forth between Oikawa and Ushijima. Ushijima had a bizarre surprised and guilty expression on his face, and Oikawa had silent waterfalls streaming down his face. On the last two lines, Iwaizumi locks eyes with Oikawa and they both gazed into each others' crying eyes. When Iwaizumi finished the last "When I Was Your Man," he just looked into Oikawa's eyes whilst the room sat there in silence. The sudden deafening sound of applause startled them both out of their trance like states. Iwaizumi proceeded to nod and thank everyone before leaving the stage to his table. There he was met with the sight of Akaashi who came to congratulate him from the table he was sitting at with Bokuto, Kenma, Kuroo, Hinata, and Kageyama.
"That was really good, Iwaizumi-san. I didn't know you were such a good singer." Akaashi said to him upon meeting. Before he could reply, he was interrupted by Bokuto who had popped up behind Akaashi.
"Hey, hey, hey!" He said cheerily. "That was pretty good Iwaizumi!" Bokuto said with a smile. "Maybe we should do one together later! I'm pretty good at Karaoke myself." Bokuto said while looking at Akaashi. After thanking them, the two lovebirds left to their table where an irritated Kageyama and a slightly pouty Kuroo were watching Hinata and Kenma play on their Nintendo switches. Not long later, Oikawa and Ushijima went to him to compliment him as well. Desperately, he confessed to Oikawa all the things he had been keeping to himself since their breakup, and of his continued feelings for the beautiful setter. With sad eyes, Oikawa sighed.
"I'm sorry. I can't return your feelings. I love Ushijima." Oikawa stated before turning to his boyfriend and cupping his face before kissing him. In that moment, he could feel his heart break as tears streamed down his face. Then an annoying buzzing sounded.
Iwaizumi woke up in tears, covered in sweat, looking for what woke him. It was his phone on his bedside table. Picking it up, he saw a missed call from Oikawa and a text that said "I'm sorry for the fight baby. I'm on the way to your house with snacks and the Godzilla movie. Can we have a movie night tonight? I love you Iwa-chan. (Red Heart Emoji.)" Smiling in relief, he called Oikawa back and went to change clothes.
"Hey baby. I'm sorry for the fight too. If you still want to come over, I'd love a movie night. The door will be unlocked when you get here. I love you too, 'Kawa. Now and Forever."
During their movie night, they fell asleep together, and the next time Iwaizumi woke up, it was with a smile because he was greeted to the sight of the love of his life snoring gently while sprawled on top of him. He was so lucky to have Oikawa, and he would never let anything jeopardize their relationship or their happiness.
The End…. Or is it?
AN: This isn't very good, but I did it to inspire me to keep writing. Thank you for reading, and sorry I haven't posted as often as I'd like. I think we all know that it has been a hectic few years. I wrote this over a year ago, but I thought posting it would encourage me to finish my other stories. Please leave a review for me, it helps me remember to keep writing. Stay safe and healthy!
Lots of Love,
