3rd POV
.
.
Golden hues cracked open, blinking slowly as their owner attempted to situate themselves. Colith stared longly at the foreign ceiling above her, wondering where the hell she was before she felt that something was strapped around her face. She reached to remove it, noticing how stiff and painful- her arm was. Her movements were sluggish but not enough to hinder her from grabbing the thing on her face she successfully pulled off. And upon seeing the oxygen mask, she frowned.
"..wha-" a sudden cough shook her entire body, causing a vivid pain to nearly make her shriek until she got the reflex to immediately shut her nociceptors off before she could pass out.
'GAH DAMN' she gasped, eyes wide.
Well now, she was definitely awake for sure. The smell of antiseptic and alcohol entered her nostrils while a constant beeping sound echoed in the white room which gave her an idea of where she was. She thinks.
'...Hospital...?'
She blinked as she tried to crane her neck to look around but found out that she couldn't as something was obstructing her movements. Neck braces.
Alright, what in tarnation happened for her to be in such a state?!
She knew she was indeed in a hospital room which added more to her already confused brain. What on earth was she doing in a hospital, to begin with? and more importantly, WHY DID EVERYTHING HURT THE MOMENT SHE WOKE UP? She couldn't remember exactly what happened beforehand but she damn well knew that the AOT realm didn't dispose of such advanced medical tech as her eyes found the machine charged to keep tabs on her vitals.
A frown took over her features as she held her available hand with the pulse oximeter she hadn't seen earlier in front of her eyes.
'???'
Blinking the grogginess away, Colith attempted to sit up but again, found herself unable to which caused the frown to deepen.
'what in the world...'
Somehow, she had a feeling that this happened before, traveling from one universe to another. At least that's what she assumed as the faraway roars of cars reached her ears. No more sounds of rattling hooves on the cobblestone, no sounds of carts being pulled and even the sound of grappling hooks slicing through the air while gas furiously leaked from the ODM gear were no more. Just good old noise pollution followed by motor vehicles traffic sound proper to a modern city.
Hold on. What the fuck.
Her guts twisted uncomfortably as she found herself unable to remember how she got here and why she was like this. Her breathing hitched as a trembling hand came clutching the spot her rapidly beating heart was situated as a sudden panic and...sadness took hold of her. She had a feeling that...something was amiss, aside from her predicament, no, It was.. It was as if she was forgetting something...or rather someone but who? She couldn't remember for the love of Allah what made her yearn for this person in particular, though her panic waned as her brain recalled instead three sets of gleaming eyes looking up at her with love and trust. Her beans. Her children.
She let out a quiet sigh of relief. She didn't forget about them. Thank Allah she didn't or she wouldn't have forgiven herself. A fond smile graced her lips as her eyes softened. Where were they? Were they okay? Were they eating properly? She hoped so...
She was so relieved after recalling the way they were huddled together, sleeping soundly in their home as she left for HQ that she nearly missed the new voice frantically echoing in her head which jolted her into focus.
"Lith! Damn Finally! I've been calling you for a while now! Are you good pal?"
"... Dipshit messenger?" the woman breathed.
"WHY DO YOU KEEP CALLING ME LIKE THAT! UGH! And here I was worried for you! You ungrateful woman!"
Colith rolled her eyes as steam begin rising from every part of her unmoving body. Noticing the phenomenon, she frowned before addressing the messenger. "What happened to me? What's going on? Why do I have a feeling that this happened before?" she narrowed her eyes as if visualizing her interlocutor.
The messenger chuckled nervously, "Well, huh, you know it's funny because..."
"THEY DID WHAT?!" Colith fumed in her mind, veins bulging out of her forehead as she scowled. She finally understood why everything freaking hurts and she wasn't happy about it!
"Ah don't be mad at me! I told them it wasn't a good idea But they still went with it!" the voice apologized though there was an undertone of amusement below. "more importantly, they knew you'd survive so they did it anyway." it shrugged. "thought I wasn't expecting you to be out for this long..." it mumbled.
"Come again?"
"Oh, nothing."
Colith groaned. "Still that's fucking rude man! Dropping me from the sky! What's next? The fucking ocean?!"
"..."
Colith paused. "...it better be One piece or I'm kicking a fuss."
"Duly noted." the voice replied without missing a beat as though they both shared a handshake after coming to an agreement.
She sniffed, her irritation returning as her body pulled itself back together, "Seriously tho, what did they take me for? A fucking bird?" she hissed.
"Well your supposed son is one, so yes.." the voice retorted with a chuckle that made the woman's eye twitch in annoyance.
"Not on my fucking watch!" She huffed, "Anyway, where am I? You still didn't tell me which anime they dropped me off this time." she muttered. While looking around, she had noticed the way everything looked animesque and did her best to recognize the art style, without much success so far. "Ain't it your job to inform me of such? Or could it be that y'all finally decided to send me home?" she tried.
"Ah-ah, don't get your hopes up, sis. Remember, favorite soul."
"Tch. Motherfucker" she grumbled.
"Watch your profanity."
"Yeah yeah, anyway, will you tell me where the fuck am I this time? Don't think I didn't notice how you've been avoiding the question"
It was silent for a while as though the messenger disappeared, confusing Colith until it returned with a shrug. "Hum, so since you've been acting like a brat, they told me to tell you this 'let her figure it out herself' in their quotes. So hum, yeh, good luck."
"Seriously?! Not even a hint?!"
"Nah, you're on your own this time, sorry."
Her eye twitched, "why do I feel like you're not genuine?"
" 'Cause i'm not. Alright, bye-bye, adieu farewell, and kick ass!" the presence disappeared once again before Colith could shout more profanities in her mind.
She couldn't believe it, man! The nerve of those higher-ups! Dropping her from the sky like some trash and then leaving her alone with no clues about where she was?! That was beyond rude!
The woman clicked her tongue as she glared at the ceiling as if it would burn before quickly stopping as a black dot gradually appeared from nowhere. Ah. Well, she still had her powers then. Yey.
She closed her eyes as she tried to recall something. Well, she might as well try and guess where she was huh.
First, she knew she was somewhere in Japan that's for sure, thus eliminating The God of high school and Hunter x Hunter right off the bat since the former took place in Korea while the latter in a weird version of Earth. How did she come to that conclusion you ask? Well, the freaking Kanji present here and here in the room, she had no problem reading were a dead giveaway so she could eliminate anything outside of Japan and other universes with weird alphabets or could she?
Meh, the hardest part now was which anime she was in! If she based herself on her previous experiences, it's probably a universe she's familiar with. Unless the H-U were sick basta-
She better stop antagonizing them before they really do some crazy shit. She decides.
Well, what animes/manga has she seen so far? Plenty. She could be in some random slice of life she watched years ago for all she knew and since Japan was probably a thing:
[Code Geass]
She barely remembers anything from that show except how confused as fuck she was while watching so that was very unlikely.
[Death note]
Same as the first. Although she knew the ending, she didn't really pay attention and dropped it when L died.
[One punch man]
That would be sick! But the current lack of constant destruction didn't hint at that possibility. Bummer.
[Jujutsu kaisen]
hm..very likely but knowing her luck it ain't the case. Plus she had a feeling that she had been there before, so she brushed it off.
[Yuri on ice]
Why have powers if she can't even skate to save her life? Plus she didn't even finish the anime.
[Arakawa under the bridge]
HA, MOTHERFUCKER SHE'S IN! That would be HILARIOUS.
[Mirai ni-
she gagged.
Allah please no.
[Baki]
The simple knowledge of potentially being on the same planet as Yujiro Hanma and Pickle was enough to send her into a shuddering mess.
And so on and so forth...
After a while of pondering and coming up with nothing, she glanced toward the window, debating whether or not to book it like a certain copycat ninja and maybe conveniently meet the main character. Heh, how cliché does that sound. She chuckled before her thoughts came to a halt as the door to her room opened, prompting her to lazily glance toward it. Maybe after seeing the nurse's features, she'd get a hint? 'cause right now she had no clue.
To her immense disappointment, the nurse looked like any background character she'd overlook over the main cast. Long brown hair held in a low ponytail followed by charcoal-colored eyes. Yep. Random character for sure. At least it helped her narrow down her options since the art style seemed a bit more detailed so no Mob psycho 100!
Her lips pursed a little as she eyed the woman who closed the door behind her, a clipboard in hand as she turned around to walk inside. Colith watched the woman approach her spot, checking the machine and scribbling something before halting as she noticed the oxygen mask on Colith's chest before the woman glanced up, causing their eyes to meet. There was a silence as they stared right back at each other.
"Hey."
The woman immediately released a surprised yelp, eyes wide in shock as her clipboard met the ground. This reaction startled Colith who mimicked her expression, befuddled. Before she could open her mouth to speak, the nurse gingerly picked up the clipboard before pressing some button, probably to notify a doctor before excusing herself.
'Now that's weird.' Colith thought as she sat up, quickly getting rid of the casts on her body before stretching. Re-activating her nociceptor in the process.
After waiting for what seemed like minutes, a doctor entered, followed by the same nurse who exchanged hushed whispers with him as they both watched Colith now in a sitting position with stunned expressions on their face while she glanced at them with a confused a frown.
"Why are you guys staring at me like that?"
This seemed to surprise them even more before the Doctor cleared his throat as he attempted to regain his composure and began clearing things for her. Apparently she was found in the middle of a parc a week ago, bleeding profusely with almost every bone of her body broken as though she fell from a great height. She was in such a dire state that they thought she wouldn't survive, therefore explaining their shock at her sudden recovery. Colith slowly nodded, acting as though it was shocking news for her even though she knew that her case was special. Thankfully the healing process was long done by the time the nurse had arrived, otherwise, she would've been obliged to meddle with her memories which wasn't something she liked doing that much.
After concluding thorough examinations on her for who knows how long, she was discharged from the hospital as they found nothing wrong with her to their great befuddlement. Colith knew how tempted they were to keep her for more observations since it wasn't every day that they found someone on the brink of death fully healed in the span of a mere week, so she had to reluctantly meddle with their mind so she could be discharged the very same day of her waking.
While the doctor left to do his job, she turned to the nurse who seemed much more relaxed than earlier and asked her which prefecture she was currently in. It would've been too cliché if she landed in Tokyo since every anime known to exist, except for a select few, actively took place there. However, she was overly surprised to learn that she was in the prefecture of Kyoto instead. Well, that surely was a...change. Thus eliminating Tokyo Ghoul, since well, Tokyo.
Memories of her wandering into an ancient Japan out of boredom whilst trolling people resurfaced in her mind, caused a soft smile to grace her lips. So she had been sent there too huh? Neat.
She shook her head, wondering what this other version of her was currently doing before returning to her task of putting on a white sweatshirt and a long flower-patterned skirt the nurse was nice enough to provide her since her clothes had been damaged beyond repair.
Colith huffed.
Guess they didn't have anything her size. The skirt was nearly impossible to put on because of her wider hips since she was quite curvier due to her African heritage. Same with the shirt which was too constricting in fact that she had to once again resort to her powers to make them fit.
"Welp, guess shopping is out of the window for now!" She snorted.
She couldn't just make things appear out of nowhere without knowing where she was first. Who knows if she landed in a highly surveyed world? What if she was in Parasyte? Or lord forbid, Chainsaw-man?
She shuddered.
Yeah no, she didn't sign up for that shit so she better lay low the time she situates herself. Sure she'd adopt Denji as soon as possible if she were to be there. Although, having no knowledge of where one is can even make the strongest being overly cautious. She just prayed to not come across any nasty surprise! Like a redhead with piercing yellow ringed eyes for example-
