Hey hey everyone! While I overcome writer's block for A Lightless Land (Which an old chapter I had planned to release sooner will be released in a bit, so if you come from ATD keep a look out.), have this story. Daybreak is one of the games that I hardly play despite liking so much, mainly because I'm a wimp when it comes to horror games. Or when it comes to anything. Anyways, see you at the end of the chapter!
The mist consumes all. Good, evil, no matter who you are, the mist will take you.
Adrianna Penn: The Influencer. Overnight sensation. Estimated follower count: 100k. But before her livestream celebration of this amazing milestone, she went on a walk in the woods.
And the mist found her.
Gabrielle Cole: The Inventor. Horror fanatic. Her machines were legendary. She had created a ghost tracker. Keyword: Had.
The white mist emerged once more to take her.
Arlo Flores: The Nurse. Overworked med student. The usual. For once in his life he was invited to a party. He was determined to go. But it never came. One late night in the library left him with no energy.
He didn't even see the mist close in.
Mamo Ikaika: The Softball Star. A prodigy, the MVP even. But she was in the worst state as she waited for a bus to arrive at its destination. But it crashed: She thought she would die. But she didn't. However as she opened the door, she disappeared, and everyone in that bus was reported dead.
No one knew that she opened the door to greet a white mist.
These four found themselves waking up at a strange burial ground. They didn't know it yet, but they had company.
The four found eachother near a tree. There, they spotted a yellow generator, seemingly busted.
"Alright, we need to get out of here. I think this generator is our best bet. Gabi, you're good at tech stuff. Think you can work on it?" Adriana frantically yells, not knowing of the dangers that lurk.
"No prob, leave it to me. Arlo, you're pretty smart too, right? Look for another one of these gens with Adri and Mamo and get to work." Gabrielle smugly said, kneeling down and starting to repair the broken machine.
The three nod and run away. Their worst mistake.
From behind Gabrielle, a man with a white mask started to approach.
He had a bloody knife in his hand.
The Inventor's heart beat fast, as she felt something creeping up behind her, but she didn't know what exactly it was.
Her fatal error was that she didn't run.
Wren Harris: The Slasher. He wasn't always like this. But one day he came home to see his family tied up.
He wasn't strong enough back then to save them.
But now, he's gotten stronger. But after his identity was revealed, he knew what he had to do. Looking in the mirror, he was horrified at what he had become.
He was too distracted mourning to anticipate the mist that took him away forever.
And now he's here, slashing a teenager who just wanted to escape a scary place.
Adriana, Mamo, and Arlo didn't hear her screams. When they returned to check on her, she was barely hanging on.
"What happened to you?!" Mamo yelled, but Adriana cupped a hand over her mouth. She knew that she would attract the unwanted attention of whatever did this to Gabrielle.
Arlo, being a nurse, was able to help the downed survivor up. She was bleeding heavily, though.
"Gh… someone came up behind me. He had a mask, and a knife. I didn't know until it was too late. I thought I would die." She whispered, leaning on the generator, scrambling to fix it despite her condition.
Adriana's heart beat fast. She realised something: The killer couldn't have gotten that far if Gabrielle was still alive. She yelled "RUN!" as she narrowly dodged a thrown knife, which embedded itself into the tree.
The squad ran away as Wren stalked them, and soon, the stalk broke into a run.
"Please, stop!" Arlo yelled to the man chasing them.
"I wish I could." He replied. "Heads up!"
A knife sailed past Mamo, almost stabbing itself into her back. She realised what she could do to help right then and there.
She grabbed her bat from her back and turned her heel, and as The Slasher ran up to her, she hit him. Hard.
He staggered and stepped back as the squad ran, but he still found himself bloodthirsty. He threw one last knife as a last ditch effort.
It hit Arlo right in the thigh.
He stumbled, and turned to face the knife-wielding killer as the group hid. He stared at him.
"Don't look at me… Your face… Why is it like hers!?" Wren yelled. You could hear his voice crack.
He slunk away as The Nurse bled out.
The trio only realised Arlo hadn't caught up because he'd been caught when they found him crawling towards them, knife in his leg.
"Oh god, I'm so sorry!" Adriana shouted. She then clasped her mouth, realising she probably just revealed her location. "We fixed, like, two gens before realising you weren't with us!…"
Gabrielle pulled out her tracker. It showed that The Slasher was very far from their hiding spot. "We'll be fine. We only have to fix one more generator, I'm pretty sure."
"We have to split up. I'll be fine. Arlo, Gabrielle, you two are hurt. You've gotta stick with Adriana. If I find the generator, I'll find you guys and lead Gab to it. You two have to get ready to run for your lives."
The squad all realised that they may not leave alive. At least. Not all of them.
They split up. Wren was close to finding them at points, but they never found them.
At least. Not until the gates opened.
Arlo, Mamo, and Gabrielle had already found themselves out of the burial grounds, however Adriana was having trouble finding the exit.
Wren, on the other hand, had an unsatiated bloodlust. He was hunting them down.
That's when he saw Adriana.
"I hashtag DID NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS!" She yelled, vaulting over small fences and crouching through holes then possible.
"Just die!" The Slasher yelled, throwing a knife The Influencer's way.
That was his error.
This gave her time to turn a corner. Lucky for her, there were lockers there.
"Might as well: It's my last hope." She muttered to no one in particular as she stepped in the locker closest to her."
Her heart was beating extremely fast. Wren stepped inside. She calmed herself and steadied her silent breathing. He saw the open hallway and didn't waste any time running that way.
The Slasher missed his only shot to claim a victim that day.
Adriana snuck past him and eventually made her way out. The other three were surprised to see her.
"Nothing scares me anymore. Self-control is key." She said, walking away from the burial ground with the rest of the team following her." They thought they had left this behind.
But the white mist consumes all. No exceptions. No sentiment. No pity. If only they knew what was to come.
Alright, so to the few who already know Daybreak lore: I'll try my best to keep all these characters lore-compliant, but my only hope for that will be the wiki, and there are vandals. These four will come back to interact with people that they know personally: I'll try to bundle every character from a chapter together, however there are way too few characters for them to not return for a later chapter. I'll try my best to add more dialogue, but it's hard to have people speak when they're being hunted down. Some events may be inaccurate to the game. That's all. See you all soon!
