I check the timer on phone, seeing if its time to take a pizza out of the oven. I'm having a girls night with Alya so of course pizza is on the menu. I make sure the popcorn is in the bowls ready to go and the sodas are in the fridge. My phone buzzes and I pick up thinking its Alya, telling me she'll be here shortly. "Hey, girl, you coming soon?" I ask. "No can do after all. I'm coming down with a cold," Alya sniffles. Disappointment crashes through me. Yes, its just girls night, but for the superhero of Paris, I don't get much time for these. And I could really use a friend tonight. "But don't worry, girl. You wouldn't be alone. In fact, they should be over soon!" Alya winks and clicks off. I sigh. Well, at least I won't be totally alone tonight. I don't know why I grab the bowl of popcorn as I saunter over to the door.
"Ahhh!" I shriek and the popcorn bowl goes flying, showering me with popcorn like confetti. Alya didn't tell me it would be Adrien Agreste! "What-what are you doing here?" I stammer. "Well, Alya sent me since she's not feeling well and I told her I wanted to see you anyway. So here I am." "Here you are," I echo. "Can I come in?" Adrien asks. "Right! Of course!"
Despite my sweaty palms, I'm glad to spend some time with Adrien without a group. "Is something burning?" Adrien asks, sniffing the air. "The pizza!" I leap over to the oven, and take it out. Its not bad, only the crust is a little charred. "Even with black bits, it looks great, Marinette!" "Not as great as you," I squeak. "What was that?" Adrien asks, but he can't hide the smirk of his face. "You look great," I repeat. Adrien's wearing a forest green sweater and black jeans. "You look like Cat Noir tonight," I say, thinking of my best friend and partner. Adrien runs a hand through his tousled blonde hair. "A model in his own right." "What do they pay him? Cat nip?" I joke. "catnip's better then kibble. Its so dry." "Do you speak from experience, Agreste?" I grin as we head upstairs with our pizza and snacks. "No, no! But we've all been dared to try it at least once in our lives, right?"
"Well, its that's better then eating an aphid," I whisper. I get as curious as Cat Noir at times and I googled what a ladybug eats. Why could it be something sweet and nice, like nectar or seeds?
My room is dark as I have the laptop set up to play a Disney movie. Thinking we should at least eat the pizza first, I sit down at my desk chair, switching on my little lamp I got a few weeks ago. I like it because the light is a soft orange, not the harsh light. I like to sew by it and even it makes me sleepy, it calms me down. "Nice, is that a hummingbird on the side?" Adrien asks, walking over to get a closer look. "Yeah. Cat was so frustrated when I got it because if you hit this button here," I point and Adrien pushes the button. "It does this."
It starts to turn, throwing its light around the room, all the while various birds are singing. "He stared at for like a hour, meowing. He didn't think it was funny when I laughed at him." "I feel slightly sorry for him. Cats do like birds after all," Adrien says, and sits down in my extra chair. His hands brushes mine and I blush hard, but I don't pull my hand away. "Sorry, I guess my hands was kinda greasy wasn't it?" Adrien says. "I don't mind."
Though the touch only lasted for a moment, I feel at peace with everything in my world. Once we finish eating, we climb up to my bed where I've set up the laptop. "Nice pillow!" Adrien says. "My parents got for me when I was small," I explain and stroke my cat pillow lovingingly. Cat was a little grumpy about at first when we first started hanging out, but I promised him he'd always be top cat in the room.
Halfway through the movie the air conditioner kicks on and I shiver slightly. "Here, we can use this," Adrien says and pulls a pink blanket over us. I'm suddenly hyper-aware of how close we are, but its like when he brushed my hand, a feeling of peace washes over me. I lose myself in the movie, laughing with Adrien at the funny parts. Oh, how refreshing it is to spend time with a friend, one who cares about you. His warmth acts like an extra blanket and as much as I struggle to keep my eyes open, they shut, and I lean against Adrien sleeping. How long has it been since I felt this….peaceful? My head drops slowly onto my pillow.
"Your quiet presence is very calming,
when the storm in my head is brewing.
Mental lighting and thunder is crashing in my brain,
but your the one to shield me with your umbrella from the rain.
I fell in love with you in a the clap of thunder,
Please be the love of my life forever."
Its not Adrien who says this, nor is it Cat Noir, but a mixture of the two, and I can hear myself as well. I feel the bed creak and shift as if Adrien now knows I've fallen asleep.
"Sweet dreams, My Princess,
Sleep safe and sound,
I'll be back soon my love,
So, until tomorrow."
Adrien kissed his Princess softly upon her head, happy to see her smiling. Unlocking the balcony hatch, he climbed up and perched on the railing. He sat there looking at the stars until dawn. The Prince protects his Princess in the tower, watching over her with love.
