Lord of Shadows.

Jonathan Whitelock never liked that nickname. He was proud of his family. Proud of his name. Proud of where he came from.

Proud of what he was doing. For over two hundred years, he led the Shadow Squads. He became the Lord of the Shadows very quickly. But he just wanted to be Jonathan.

He was sitting in an armchair, immersing himself in reading. Time after time he found himself unable to concentrate on what he was reading. These were fragments that were disturbingly reminiscent of his own life. He didn't remember the first time he hunted. He couldn't remember who his first victim was. However, he was proud of every life taken by him. In his eyes, no witch had a right to live. Something that was unnatural couldn't exist.

Irritated, he closed the latest edition of "The Land of Darkness." He has read this book countless times. Whenever he tried to remember his mother's soft voice. He got up and went to the mirror. Today they celebrated another success. Another magic village has been destroyed. The alleys of the A Corner of Variety located in the heart of Bory Tucholskie have been erased from existence. The place was completely burnt. Fortunately, they managed to save the surrounding forest. It was more valuable to him than any magic shop.

He sighed as he saw what he looked like. He was tired and exhausted. It was reflected in his face. The bruising under the eyes was getting more and more intense. He was emaciated. Destroyed. Yet even that couldn't hide his broad shoulders and blonde hair falling in soft waves over his eyes. Unfortunately, it was his eyes that were the biggest problem for him. His irises were white. So white that only his pupils were visible.

Knock, knock, knock...

The sound of a knock on his room door drove him crazy. He had warned Jasper that no one should disturb him. He had the right to rest before the party. He had the right to have at least a moment to himself.

Knock, knock, knock...

He growled and walked firmly to the door. He tugged on the handle so much that the door flew open and he scared the girl standing on the other side. She was petite. She looked more like a girl than a woman.

"What do you want?" - He tried to be gentler but it was easy to sense the anger in his voice.

She sighed, looking as if she was holding back from saying something that could possibly make him even more furious. He noticed her clenched fists before slipping her hands into the pockets of her vest. He liked it. She had a character.

"A telegram came. The branch from southern Poland was decimated by Aurors from the International Security Department."

She paused, but Jonathan knew there was more to it. There was no point in getting upset. Those who report for service must take into account death. It was a phrase he kept repeating to himself at times like this. In fact, he cared about every single person who died in the name of justice.

"In that case, we will also include a Confession of Remembrance to the celebration. Each of the boys who died will be remembered. Do you know who carried out the attack?"

She seemed to tense up. - "Damn bloodsucker."

Whitelock's fingers tightened on the doorframe. Vampires were worse to fight than wizards and werewolves. However, this vampire was special. Before the transformation, he was an extremely powerful wizard. He was still a powerfull wizard. - "Nott? Don't say it was Thanatos Nott."

"Unfortunately. This is why I was sent to convey this message to you. Jasper was afraid of your reaction."

He closed his eyes and sniffed the air. It used to calm him down once. He hoped it would happen again. - "I'm not a monster. I am strict but you are my family. I wouldn't hurt you for what was beyond your control. We have to find his weak point. We cannot allow him to become a symbol of good."

"Don't you think it would be ironic? Vampire. One of the most terrible magical creatures would be a symbol of good?"

She smiled and he tried to stop himself from throwing her onto the bed. He was stressed out and sex was the easiest way to release his emotions.

"We'll have to get to his family. Maybe we'll find someone he still cares about. Someone he'll be afraid to lose."
