Chapter 1: Hi, Brownie Charles

It was a beautiful Saturday in the park, and Charlie Brown, Scott, Linus, Franklin, Mario, Schroeder, Lucy, Lila, Whitney, Sally, Peppermint Patty, Heather, Marcie, Snoopy, and Woodstock were inside the Caboose, playing Chutes and Ladders. "I got a six!" Schroeder smiled after spinning the wheel. "One, two, three, four, five, and six!"

"Good move, Schroeder!" Whitney smiled.

"Thanks Whitney. Now it's your turn, Barney." Schroeder smiled at the Barney doll.

"Okay." Lucy said, spinning for Barney. "What? Don't stare at me, like that."

Everyone just giggled as the wheel landed on a three, and Snoopy moved Barney's piece for him. Just then, a little girl with red hair like Heather's entered the caboose. "Excuse me, but I can please play too?" the girl asked.

"Why sure you can." Charlie Brown smiled before his eyes went wide as he remembered who it was. "PEGGY JEAN?!"

"Brownie Charles!" Peggy squealed with delight as she hugged her former boyfriend.

"Brownie Charles?" Whitney, Lila, Mario, and Scott asked, confused.

"Everyone, this is Peggy Jean...my ex girlfriend." Charlie Brown said.

"Isn't it wonderful, Brownie Charles? We're reunited!"

"What happened to your boyfriend?"

"He was a gold-digger. Only into me because I'm a sweetie. Can you believe it?! So, who're all your friends?"

"Well, you remember Linus, Lucy, Sally, Snoopy, and Woodstock, right?" Charlie Brown asked, to which Peggy Jean nodded. "That's Peppermint Patty and Marcie, Schroeder, Franklin, Lila, Scott, Mario, and Whitney." He then gulped when seeing Heather's smiling face.

"I can imagine you're feeling conflicted right now." Lucy snickered.

"And that's Heather...my new girlfriend." Charlie Brown said, nervously.

"If I were you, I'd make a clean break and move to France." Sally whispered.

There was an awkward silence between everyone. But Heather kept her smile and shook Peggy Jean's hand, not feeling jealous or angry at all. And neither did Peggy. "Nice to meet you, Peggy Jean." Heather smiled.

"I hope you're treating Brownie right." Peggy said.

"I am. He's in good hands." Heather said.

"When'd you even get together?"

"Long story." Linus said.

"And who's the little dinosaur?" Peggy asked, picking up the Barney doll.

"HANDS OFF BARNEY!" Lucy exclaimed. "Sorry, I mean, let him get to know you, first."

"Hi Barney." Peggy Jean smiled. "Do you know Brownie well?"

"Why of course I do!" Charlie Brown impersonated Barney's voice. "He's my very best friend."

Peggy giggled. "I hope we can be friends too, Barney."

"Same here." Charlie said, still impersonating Barney's voice.

"Man, I wish he were real." Peggy Jean said. "He sounds fun."

The kids just smiled and giggled. "If only you really knew." Marcie smiled.

"So, you wanna play Chutes and Ladders with us?" Scott smiled.

"Sure!" Peggy Jean smiled as she joined the game.

Meanwhile, Kami was outside with a tissue box that she converted into a toy.

Kami:

A-tisket, a-tasket

a green and yellow basket

I wrote a letter to a friend,

"Check it out!" Woodstock chirped to Snoopy.

Kami then entered the caboose and passed out flowers to everyone from her tissue box.

"Hey guys, who's your new friend?" Kami asked.

"Kami, this is Peggy Jean." Charlie Brown smiled.

"Nice to meet you." Kami smiled, giving Peggy a flower.

"Thank you, Kami." Peggy patted Kami on the head.

Kami then handed a flower to the Barney doll. "And here's a flower for you, Barney." Just then, the Barney doll came to amazing life, much to Peggy Jean's surprise.

"BARNEY!" The kids happily exclaimed as they gave him a hug.

"HEY!" Snoopy happily exclaimed as he and Woodstock joined the hug.

"D-does anyone else see that?!" Peggy Jean shrieked, before fainting.

"Oh my goodness. Who's that?" Barney asked.

"Don't worry. I'll tell you in a bit." Charlie Brown said as Linus and Lucy helped Peggy Jean up her feet. She then regained herself but her mouth dropped at the sight of Barney.

"Why hello there." Barney smiled.

"Don't worry, Peggy. Barney's tons of fun! And he's super friendly." Heather assured.

"Oh my..." Peggy Jean murmured.

She slowly approached Barney. "Barney, this is Peggy Jean, my girlfriend before Heather." Charlie Brown smiled.

"Nice to meet you Peggy." Barney smiled. Peggy Jean gulped before slowly touching his green tummy with her finger, making him giggle. "Whoa! That tickles!"

Peggy Jean's worries went away as she giggled. "Wow. You're so soft and friendly." Peggy smiled.

"Why thank you." Barney smiled. "And thank you for the lovely flower Kami. I bet it smells beautiful." He then took a sniff. "It certainly do..do...achoo!"

"Are you okay, Barney?" Lila asked.

"Do yu have an allergy? Are you sick? IS THERE A DOCTOR, IN THE CABOOSE?!" Lucy panicked.

"I'm fine. It's just that daisy was a doozy!" Barney joked, making Peggy Jean and Snoopy giggle.

"Here's a tissue for your nose, Barney." Sally offered, wiping Barney's nose.

"That feels better. Thank you, Sally." Barney smiled.

"You're welcome." Sally smiled.

"Hey guys! Kami's box and the tissue box look just the same." Mario said.

"You're right, Mario. They do look look a lot like each other." Barney said.

"That's because I used a tissue box just like this one." Kami explained the differences. "I glued on strips of green and yellow paper, then a handle to carry it with."

"That's very nice!" Peggy Jean smiled.

"How'd you do it?" asked a curious Sally.

"I just told you!" Kami giggled.

"Well it looks like you used a lot of imagination." Barney smiled.

"Yes, but mostly I did it because it was fun." Kami said before they heard the bell ringing from outside.

"What was that?" asked a curious Peggy Jean.

"That's our caboose bell! It might mean someone's here." Marcie smiled.

"May I ring it?"

"Sure."

"Okay!"

They then made their way outside where Peggy Jean rang the bell as everyone else surveyed their surroundings. "That's funny. There's nobody here." Franklin shrugged.

"But something else is here. Look!" Peppermint Patty pointed to a bunch of boxes strewn all over the front.

"Whoa!" the kids exclaimed as they ran towards the boxes.

"So many boxes!" Lucy exclaimed.

"I think the last time we saw this many was when Debra gave some to us after we helped her out." Lila said.

"This one has writing on it." Kami noticed. "It says, 'To: Barney and Snoopy. From: The Enjoy Your Toys Company'."

"TOYS?!" The kids happily exclaimed.

"YAY!" Snoopy happily exclaimed as they all searched for toys, but their smiles, except Snoopy's, faded when they found the boxes were empty.

"I got an idea." Snoopy said to Barney.

He then giggled as he and Woodstock took some of the boxes to build something. "This one's empty." Charlie Brown said.

"So is this one." Scott said.

"There aren't any toys in any of these." Heather said.

"I think it's just a bunch of boxes." Whitney said.

"Well that was a rip off!" Lucy fumed, throwing a box down in anger. "What are we supposed to do with our time now?!" They then turned around and saw that Snoopy and Woodstock constructed a replica of the Sopwith Camel out of the boxes, complete with propeller.

"Whoa!" everyone exclaimed.

Snoopy laughed as he began to fly his plane. "Maybe this isn't a rip off, right Barney?" Lila smiled.

"That's right. After all, all Kami had was a tissue box, and she made it into a very nice toy." Barney smiled.

"That's right! And we can make lots of fun things out of these boxes!" Mario smiled.

"I wonder..." Marcie thought, before whispering an idea to Lila.

"Good idea." Lila said.

"What're they making?" asked Whitney.

"A bookshelf." Lucy teased.

"How'd you know?" Lila blinked.

Marcie blushed. "Marcie, I think what Mario is suggesting is making these boxes into any toys we want!" Peppermint Patty smiled.

"Come on! Let's get started!" Scott smiled as they moved some of the boxes into the caboose.

"This is going to be stupendous!" Barney smiled.

"Are things always like this with Barney?" Peggy Jean giggled to Charlie Brown.

"Yes. They are." Charlie said. "Wanna see the scrapbook?"

"Later. I wanna get creative with these boxes!" Peggy Jean smiled. Charlie Brown then set some boxes down as Heather approached him.

"I honestly thought the first time you saw Peggy that you two would get into a cat fight." Charlie Brown smiled with relief.

"You are so funny, sweetie." Heather giggled, kissing her boyfriend on the cheek before getting started on the boxes.

"What should we build?" asked Mario.

"Big question." Linus said.

"Why don't we start out small?" Peggy Jean suggested.

"You're ex girlfriend's got a good point Charlie Brown." Lucy smiled.

Linus was making a turtle out of a shoebox. Barney then walked around to see what his friends were working on. "It seems like you've been busy, Linus. What did you make?" Barney asked.

"A turtle. See?" Linus said.

"Oh I see." Barney smiled.

"Would you like to say hello to him?" Linus asked.

"Oh I certainly would!" Barney smiled.

Linus:

There was a little turtle, he lived in a box.

He swam in a puddle. He climbed on a rock.

He snapped at a mosquito. He snapped at a flea.

He snapped at a minnow, and he snapped at me!

He caught the mosquito. He caught the flea.

He caught the minnow, but he didn't catch me.

"That's cute." Peggy Jean said.

"Look what Lila made!" Kami exclaimed.

Lila smiled, having made a giraffe out of cardboard boxes. "Tada!"

Linus sighed. "It's...nice."

"I like your turtle, Linus. I love the attentions to detail." Lila reassured.

Linus smiled at that. "Thanks."

Barney then approached Kami and Peggy Jean, who built a grandfather clock. "And what have you and Peggy been working on, Kami?" Barney asked.

"It's a grandfather clock, like the one at my house." Kami explained.

"Ooooh!" Peppermint Patty chuckled. "I made a bed for Cupcake, but your clock is much cooler!"

"And look! It even has all the numbers!" Barney smiled. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12."

"Uh oh. I think it woke up the mouse that lives in the clock." Peggy Jean giggled.

Kami and Peggy Jean:

Hickory dickory dock.

The mouse ran up the clock.

The clock struck one.

The mouse ran down.

Hickory dickory dock.

Hickory dickory dock.

The two mice ran up the clock.

The clock struck two.

And down they flew.

The three mice ran up the clock.

The clock struck three.

They all yelled "WHEEEEEE!"

The four mice ran up the clock.

The clock struck four.

They tried no more.
