The elevator door shut softly, and Sesshomaru breathed in deeply. His fist beside him finally unclenching.
He had never in his life been asked if he was gay. And to be honest, the question threw him off guard for a moment if not exhilarated the beast within who had been rattling in his cage to prove to her just how not gay he was. Throwing her over his knee right there in his office, and spank her luscious plump bottom.
Feel the heat from her skin as his hands stung the delicate cheeks and smoothed over them in a soothing way to chase the pain away and replace it with pleasure. His growl upon his answer slipped out though. He wasn't sure if she had heard, but the way she shivered in her seat, even just slightly... He wanted to believe she had, and maybe she wouldn't have minded his delicious punishment.
She seemed to see through him before he had even known she was looking. He didn't do love, and he didn't do matters of the heart. But even he knew a little compassion was also power. He preferred it this way. With power came fear. Fear of the unknown, with anticipation of what was to come. Sensual and sinfully good. With fear came control, and control to respect. He needed all of those. He needed to taste fear and pleasure. To smell the delicate mixture of those combined. He wanted hers. But he wanted it willing.
He glanced down at the folded papers in his hands.
"You only answered like 3 questions."
"Mr. Taisho, Your 4:00 is here. Would you like me to cancel it?" Jakotsu asked him, pulling him out of his mental musing with a cup of coffee in his hands.
"No, Ill sit this one." He answered back, turning on his heel, Sesshomaru made his way down the hall to the meeting room with Jakotsu hot on his heel.
"Here are the files." Sesshomaru took them, nodding his head once.
"Thank you." He walked through the doors. Stuffing the papers into the inside pocket of his suit jacket.
Kagome clicked on her inbox and paused. Sesshomaru Taisho stood out on one of her emails like a beacon. Opening the email, she scrolled through, reading the pages and pages of information.
Confusion twisted her features, and she reached for her bag, leafing through it and pulling out her journal and opened it. The questions were gone. She was sure she had put them inside the book before she left his office. He must have gotten them somehow, although she wasn't quite sure how.
He had answered every single one of her questions with detail. She read through the email, and smiled. She had enough information to damn near write his biography!
Miss. Higurashi,
I realized this may be a little late, but I do hope this reaches you in time. I believe this information is adequate enough for you to write a fitting portrayal of myself and my day to day life.

-Sesshomaru
A smirk crossed her face and she bit her bottom lip, clicking the reply button at the bottom of the email.
Mr. Taisho,
Once again, let me apologize for that terrible interview. It was not my intention for it to be so disastrous. It seems you have quick reflexes, and have pulled me out of the weeds for this journalism editorial. Thank you.
I am, however, a bit confused as to how exactly you got your hands on my questions. But never the less, I am grateful.
Like I have told you before, there is not much to myself, but rest assured; readers will be rallying at the news stands to find out more about New York's most eligible bachelor.
I will do my best to write you in a way you would be proud. I will be sure to inform all reader that from the words of your own mouth, that you are in fact, not gay.
The ladies will squeal in delight.
Thank you for your time and very detailed response.
-Kagome
Kagome sent the cheeky email and couldn't help the smile and blush heating her neck and ears. She bit her lip in silent glee.
"Holy shit?! Are you flirting with Sesshomaru Taisho?!" Kagome jumped at the sound of Sango behind her. Her laptop teetered on her knees and she steadied it with one hand, the other placed on her chest to still her now rapidly beating heart.
Sango smirked down at Kagome's scowl with a knowing glint in her eyes.
"No, I am not. He was being a pretentious ass so I returned in kind. Plus, I highly doubt he would be sending me emails with hidden messages if you hadn't tricked me into asking him if he was fucking Gay!" Kagome huffed and turned back to her computer, opening a word document to begin with the editorial.
"I'm willing to guess that his face was fucking priceless!" Sango laughed, plopping down on the couch. "And..." she licked her spoon.
"From what I saw, that is definitely flirting." Sango pointed her spoon from her yogurt over at kagome before dipping it back into the container. "If not right out foreplay." She stuck the spoon in her mouth.
"I think you have hit your head." Kagome dead panned.
Sango shrugged, scraping her spoon around the small container to get the last of the contents onto her spoon before sticking it back in her mouth and licking it clean.
"I'm just saying, the man hasn't been known for any type of relationship with anything other then his company. Then you walk into his office, and you two are sending playful emails back and forth..." she trailed off getting up from her spot on the couch to walk back to the kitchen.
Sango paused beside Kagome. She put a hand on her shoulder, then cupped her chin and turned her head to her.
Kagome noticed a more serious expression in Sango's eyes, and her brows knit together in confusion. Despite the smile, she looked nervous.
"If there ever is anything between the two of you, remember that he is a Demon, Kagome. His instincts are strong. Be careful." Sango tapped a finger to Kagome's temple. "Be smart."
What the hell did she mean by that? Kagome was pretty certain that if anything were to happen between herself and the Taisho corp. CEO, it wouldn't go beyond friendship and that not saying if she will ever lay eyes on his sinfully gorgeous self again.
Was she flirting with him? True, she felt a little rebellious when she tuned into his teasing wording of his email. But why exactly had she replied at all? It wasn't necessary beyond a quick thank you for his effort to write all of his responses to her stolen questions.
Kagome surmised she had, maybe, been flirting. It was hard not to be attracted to a man like him. He oozed sex appeal from every pore on his body. Almost as if he were made to be fucking drop dead sexy. But it hadn't been his appearance that had made her heart skip a beat. But the look in his eyes. Like there was something locked deep inside his soul that he refused to acknowledge to the public. And she wanted to know what it was. And why it was locked in the first place. Why it seemed as if he was tortured by it.
Kagome chewed her bottom lip in thought, then shook her head. She had to stop. Looking down at her oversized t-shirt and shorts, hair piled onto her head in a messy heap, and fuzzy purple socks. Sesshomaru was way over her head. She would never measure up to what he was probably used to having.
She was plain and liked sitting on the couch on a rainy night watching romance comedies and eating ice cream with her best friend. Kagome was sure Sesshomaru was one for attending balls and soiree's, getting up early in the morning and working for the rest of the day.
Kagome clicked on his email again and read through the questions, cataloging which ones were best to put into her paper.
Maybe she should apologize. Her curser hovered over the reply button again, but decided with a shake of her head that it wasn't worth it. He would probably read her email, maybe laugh and just delete it after.
Returning to her paper, Kagome shoved Sesshomaru Taisho into the back of her mind and vowed not to think of him again. The book was closed. She would write this editorial, then never even utter his name again.
Sesshomaru glanced down at the screen of his phone again. The street light on the road passing slowly past him as the car drove along the road at a leasure pace.
So she had picked out his teasing commands.
A smile curved his mouth, and he ran his tongue over the tip of one fang as he chuckled. This girl had guts. She was refreshing in a way he had not even known he needed.
She wasn't easily offended by the controlling nature he had worded his email. In fact she had even opened fire back on him, and his beast growled in appreciation to the silent challenge. He was going to have fun teaching her how to behave.
It had been a long time since anyone had challenged him in this way. She seemed to be perfect. Her innocent demeanor spoke of how she would be a fitting submissive, but he could almost feel her hissing on his neck with the words of her reply.
She would be fun. Willing but a challenge. And he loved to rise to a challenge. He would hate to disappoint the little spit fire.
"Jakotsu." He said as the phone he had dialed picked up on the other end. "I need you to research and find everything you can get your hands on pertaining to a Kagome Higurashi, goes to NYU. I believe she is in her last year there."
"On it, Hon. Can I do anything else for you, baby?" The sultry tone of Jakotsu caressed his ear, and he cringed, scowling down at the phone.
"Just get it done, Jak." A laugh rang back, and he smashed the end button on his phone and threw it in the seat beside him like it was poison.
Jakotsu was one of his best friends, but he didn't have an issue with making it know that he wanted to jump into bed with Sesshomaru either. He never crossed a line, and accepted Sesshomaru's No with a smile every time, but it didn't stop him form continuing to try.
Besides him being a friend, he sometimes questioned why he kept him around. But it always came back to the same answer. He was the best assistant he ever had. He didn't fawn all over him like a bitch in heat, even with his persistent flirting. He was harmless, and he always completed his tasks with exception detail. He was never late.
'I will do my best to write you in a way you would be proud. I will be sure to inform all reader; from the words of your own mouth, that you are in fact, not gay.'
Sesshomaru opened the door to the car as if parked and walked into the elevator leading up to his home from the indoor garage.
He had to have her. She was perfect. Who exactly was Kagome Higurashi?
Kagome placed the tarp back on the shelf, and pulled another down. She punched the numbers on her gun and pressed send. A small sticker came out of the end and she tabbed it onto the plastic bag covering the tarp in her hands.
Kagome continued down the rows of gear, tents, cables and other things. She had picked up a late shift at Corbins outdoors store.
This was her last month here. After graduation, she wanted to look into jobs in publishing. There were so many places she had already sent her application and credits into. No one had gotten back to her yet, but she knew it was only a matter of time before they did. Or at least she hoped they would.
The bell rang through the store and she pulled herself back up to a standing position and began making her way to the front.
"Hello, What can I do..." Kagome froze, looking up into melted golden eyes of Sesshomaru. Licking her lips, she placed the tag gun on the counter in front of him.
"What can I do for you?" Kagome finally got out, looking back up to his eyes. She tried to keep her breathing normal and her heart rate slow. But his gaze just bore down on her like an anvil, and she felt herself begin to squirm in nervous energy.
She was nervous. Her scent was wafting to him with cinnamon and a hint of magnolia. He also caught an underlying scent of rain over a field of wild flowers and of course her signature soft vanilla. It was an intoxicating cocktail that made up her emotions. Clearly pointing to her arousal and the reason for her nerves. His beast purred approvingly.
A fang was visible from his smirk as he looked down at her. And she could feel heat rising in her body. What the hell was wrong with her?! This shit was getting out of fucking hand, Damnit! This was her body! And yet she felt as if she were a puppet attached to his slender clawed digits. Bobbing and weaving a dance for his amusement.
"I close in thirty minutes Mr. Taisho, is there anything I can get for you?" She asked again, crossing her arms and raising her eyebrow.
Kagome stiffened. She could have sworn his smile just got bigger. He reached his hand up and the damn thumb with the silver ring on it wiped across an invisible something on his lower lip. she also could have sworn his tongue flicked out to lick over quickly on a fang as he laughed softly.
"I need a few things, If you don't mind helping me." He drawled in a low baritone voice.
"And that would be?"
"Cable ties."
Kagome turned on her heel and walked down the rows to a certain isle. She could feel his gaze on her back so she knew he was following her. She grabbed a package of cable ties and turned to hand them to him.
"What else?" She asked softly.
"Duct tape."
Once again she walked through the store to find his requested item. Coming to the wall with the display of tapes, she gestured to the sizes for him to browse.
Reaching over her shoulder, she could feel the heat of his chest on her back as he grabbed a roll from the wall and pulled back.
"An... Any thing else?" She stuttered. Her eyes tried to remain on the floor, but flickered up to his face ever few seconds.
"What would you suggest?" He asked, leaning back against a shelf of traveling gear.
"Well, if your doing a DIY project, I would suggest... uhh..." Kagome looked around and finally spotted something on a bottom shelf not far from where he was leaning.
Stepping forward, she reached down and grabbed a bottle, and held it up for him.
"Cant ever have enough of gorilla glue for at home projects." She stated.
The beeping of the scanner brought her back to herself a little. It was familiar and normal for her. Cringing, she tried not to show her disappointment in herself as she accepted the cash and handed him his change and bag.
Kagome flinched slightly in confusion when his hand came up and cupped her chin. His thumb tugged down gently on her bottom lip, releasing it from her worrying teeth with a soft pop. She couldnt help but to close her eyes at the feel of metal just below her bottom lip, but not quite her chin. That sexy ass lickable ring. She wanted to reach out and suck that finger into her mouth like a starving baby.
That scared her. She has never felt so out of control of her own body and its reactions before. Who was Sesshomaru Taisho and why the hell did he evoke these kinds of reactions from her without her consent.
"Do not bite that lip." he murmured.
"You have a good night, Miss. Higurashi." Her eyes snapped open at the feel of his breath on her neck, just under her ear. But he was already across the room and walking out the door.
Kagome let out a shaky breath she didn't know she had been holding. What the fuck was that?!
Kagome chose to ignore the chance encounter at her store and went about her life like she had never seen him there at all. It was a little harder then she had first thought. He was everywhere it seemed.
University graduation was just days away and she had just been asked by the head of the journalism department if she would be able to contact Mr. Taisho for a small photo shoot. They needed a cover photo for her story.
Reluctantly, she agreed. Of course she hadn't been holding her breath that he would agree to such a request. In fact, she was both hoping he would, and he wouldn't.
She didn't know what to think about him. Only that he was a complete mystery to her. That only made her want to know more.
It didn't take long for a reply to her email from her to show up in her inbox. He had agreed to the photo shoot, sent a time and date to meet. Kagome wasn't sure if she wanted to attend, but decided it would be rude of her is she didn't, considering she was the one who had asked him to do it in the first place.
So she contacted her friend Shippo, and he agreed to photograph the session. Kagome knew that shippo had a sort of thing for her. But she had never done anything to encourage his advances. They were just friends. But it didn't stop him from trying. She was ok, so long as he didn't cross any lines.
"Shippo's here." Sango poked her head into the bathroom where kagome was finishing up with her light make up. A swipe of mascara and lip gloss and a little foundation was all she needed in her opinion.
She rolled her eyes when sango began to inspect her clothes.
"Sango, I am not changing, so whatever you..."
"I approve." She said, coming in and sitting on the lip of the tub. Kagome eyed her suspiciously.
"Are you sick?"
"No, you seem to have taken at least some of my advice in fashion. Your jeans actual fit you, maybe a tad bit to loose for my taste, but they hug you well enough. Love the heeled boots by the way." She said with knowing smirk, looking down at her nails and picking at an invisible piece of dirt under them.
"For you, this is dressed for success." Her smirk widened and leveled on Kagome. "Do you need condoms?" She teased.
Kagome made a good impression of a fish out of water, sputtering around her shocked expression. Sango Laughed.
Kagome felt her face heat all the way up to her hair.
"No!" Kagome snatched her bag from the counter of the bathroom and stomped out of the bathroom, making a fast escape to Shippo's car.
Huffing, she slammed the door on Sango's laughing face and shippo peeled from the curb and onto the road.
Sesshomaru felt his eyes heat and clamped down on the growl that threatened to sound as he watched once again, the man named shippo put his arms around Kagome. She would smile at him, but it was forced. He could tell. Gently she would twist herself free and walk a few paces away from him and look up at him.
He felt proud that she looked to him after having turned down the little ginger boy. He to find a way to talk to her. If he was to have her, then they would need to talk about the contract. What her hard limits were and what she would be willing to allow him to do.
She was different then any of the others he had. That is what initially drew him to her. She was delicate, but strong. She was simple, yet the most extravagant person he had ever met at the same time.
Her scent was by far one of the most pleasing he had ever smelled. And he wondered what it would be like if his own scent were mixed with hers.
"Ok, Mr. Taisho. I think we have enough. Thank you so much for your cooperation." Kagome's voice snapped him out of his thoughts, and he looked around, noticing that the camera crews were packing up their belongings.
"Your welcome." She smiled and turned to out with the other man. His demon growled and he couldn't stop the small sound from escaping his lips.
"Kagome."
She turned back around, a questioning look in her eyes.
"Do you have any plans for lunch?" He asked, looking down at his phone in his hand to confirm that it was in fact, lunch time.
"Um... No." She answered, turning back to her friend Shippo to tell him to head down without her.
"Would you like to join me? There is a small café a few blocks down from here."
Did he just ask her out? Sesshomaru, business Tycoon. She wasn't sure what to do. She wanted this chance to get to know him. But was it really smart to get involved with a man like this?
Looking back up into his eyes, she decided that it was already to late. The few times they had encountered had already sparked something in her for him. So she smiled and nodded.
"Lets go." Kagome said, smiling her widest smile.
Sesshomaru smirked and felt a rumble deep within his chest. Grabbing his phone and jacket, he offered her his arm.
Stopping by the front desk on the way to the elevators, Sesshomaru let Jakotsu know he would be out and to cancel all meeting until his return.
The Café was popular and a bit crowded. But Sesshomaru showed no discomfort as he lead her to a small table and ordered them some coffee to stave off the chill from walking here.
The weather was starting to turn colder. It didn't bother him much due to his Youkai blood. But Kagome was human and it effected her more then she was letting on, if the slight tremble of her hands were any indicator.
After the waitress returned to the table with their coffee and they had placed their orders, she watched with bated breath as Sesshomaru poured and fixed her cup. It was simple. A cube of sugar and a splash of milk. Taking it from him as he slid it across the table at her, she took a slow sip, humming at the flavor and sweetness. It was perfect.
She wondered how he knew exactly how she took her coffee. How did he know she took coffee at all instead of tea? She could have been one who didn't like the bitterness of coffee and preferred the sweet creaminess of hot chocolate or hot tea and honey. He had been right in the assumption of coffee, but she had never said anything to him, or had the drink in front of him. Maybe it had been a lucky guess.
She watched Sesshomaru fix up his own cup and take a small sip. The clink of his thumb ring on the cup made her involuntarily shiver in her seat. She could only hope if he saw, he would think it was from a draft coming in from the door.
They sat for a minute in charged silence. Sipping their coffee's respectively. Kagome wasn't sure what to say to him, and as she wracked her brain trying to figure out something to say to break the tense silence, He finally spoke.
"I want to know more about you." He sat his cup down.
"About me?" Sesshomaru nodded.
"Tell me about your family." Kagome took a slow sip of her coffee then placed the cup down on the table. Her finger tracing the rim of the cup for a second as she thought.
"Release that lip, Kagome." It was said almost warningly. Deliciously so, and kagome's teeth Immediately popped her lip back out of her mouth.
"Your family?" He reminded and kagome nodded slowly.
"Well, My dad died when I was only 4 in a terrible car accident." she started slowly. "I was raised by my uncle, Souta. He is the reason I am here. He paid my tuition and everything. I owe everything I have to him." Sesshomaru listened closely.
"So you are close to this uncle of yours?" Kagome nodded, smiling with a proud glint in her eyes.
"Yes. He took me in not long after my mother remarried the first time." It was a faint flicker, but he was almost certain her smile twitched downward a bit, and fear laced itself into her scent.
"Where was your mother?" He asked, genuinely curious as to why she would have to go to an uncle at such a young age.
"Well my mother remarried to a man named Daisuke. He was... Different. He never touched me, but he would leer at me." She looked back up to him and shrugged.
"At the time I was to young to really know what it meant, but when he started sneaking into my room, standing over me and fondle himself..." Kagome shifted in her seat uncomfortable. Sesshomaru growled low. To low for her to hear, but his blood boiled and he was fighting the shift in his eyes.
His beast wanted nothing more then to hunt this disgusting human man and have his innards for dinner while he watched. Instead, he settled for letting his claws dig into the top of the table. The beast prowling in his cage.
"I knew something was not right then. I told my uncle Souta because Mom loved him. And I didn't want to hurt her. Uncle Souta confronted mom, and she agreed that I should go and stay with him. I don't know if he told her what was happening or if he just offered to take me. Either way, I ended up with him. Mom is now on husband number 5." She finished with another sip of her cup. Her hands gripping the porcelain tight.
"My mother is an incurable romantic, i suppose." She laughed softly.
The food arrived and Kagome picked up her small turkey sandwich and took a bite. Chewing and swallowing. He was staring at her. She wasn't sure what to make of his look. Almost guarded. Scared maybe.
"Are you?" He asked, almost to quickly.
"A romantic?" He nodded, his food completely un touched in front of him.
"I study English lit. so... I kind of have to be." She said with a blush.
As if something clicked to place in his eyes, resolve filled the gold depths.
"I'm sorry... We cant do this." He said lowly.
"Excuse me?" Kagome was not expecting this as his reply. She reeled back, rejection strong in her chest. What the hell just happened?!
"We cant do this. Come on, Ill send you home." He rose from his chair, a bit to quick in Kagome's opinion and threw a few bills on the table for their barely touched meal and walked out, she was hot on his heels. She wanted an explanation.
"What is it?" She jogged to catch up to his long strides. Sesshomaru weaved through the crowd, looking anywhere then her.
"Do you have a girlfriend?" She asked. "Is that is?"
"I don't do the girlfriend thing." He bit out, almost angrily.
Kagome felt the hair on the back of her neck raise. She could feel the irritation quickly rising.
"And what the hell does that even..."
She hadn't known they had walked up to a cross walk. So she didn't see the curb until her heel slipped off the side of the walkway and she flailed her arms out, grabbing onto the first thing her hands made purchase with. The sleeves of his coat.
Sesshomaru quickly snatched her by the shoulders and pulled her back up onto the sidewalk, and he looked down at her. She was breathing slightly faster as her fear calmed down.
He placed a hand on her face and traced her cheek with his thumb. He was almost certain she leaned into his palm.
"Im not the man for you, Kagome." Her eyes opened and looked up at him with confusion. His next words were almost painful as he tore them from his lips.
"I have to let you go." Sesshomaru watched the confusion turn to hurt in her eyes. They glassed over for a second, then hardened.
She stepped back and out of his hold. Her eyes hard as steel as she looked back at him.
"Goodbye, Mr. Taisho." She said softly. Her voice shaking only the slightest bit.
He watched her walk away and back up the sidewalk until he couldn't see her anymore.
Gritting his teeth, he turned back in the direction of his building and made his way back to the office. His teeth were snapped shut tight, but his eyes, he could feel them bleeding into red slowly as he fought to regain control. He was failing.
Kagome unlocked the door to her apartment she shared with Sango and slowly closed the door. She could hear the TV in the living area playing softly in the background as Sango came around the corner of the hall.
"Hey Sango." Her voice sounded low even to her ears.
"Kagome... Are you ok?" She asked, concern playing on her face. Kagome took a steadying breath and looked up her tearful eyes into Sango's.
"Yeah. I just don't understand." she said. "He asked me to lunch, then just rejected me before we could even finish the food." She told her.
Kagome wasn't sure why she felt like this. It wasn't like they had been dated and she had just been dumped. But He had asked her to lunch, not the other way around. So She couldn't understand why he pulled her close one second, then completely dropped her on her ass the other.
Fucking Jerk! She was convinced that he was a pompous ass. Sighing, she smiled up at her friend. It was over with now. So there was not use in dwelling on it.
"I'm fine. He is a total fucker. Asked me to lunch, then dropped me like a rock!" She said with a laugh. Sango laughed and came around to wrap her arms around her shoulders. Her chin propped up on Kagome's shoulder.
"Want me to kick his pretty little ass?" Kagome laughed. If only it were that easy.
