I don't own Stargate in any way.

This is the first short story in a series, and I hope you enjoy what I write.

For King and Country: Danu's Secret.

It was written into Goa'uld DNA for them to plot, plan, scheme and attack one another. Some races like the Asgard to the Tollans in the future would analyse the Goa'uld genetic code, and discover in their stem cells a chimeric strain which made them malevolent, and they were.

The Goa'uld were predatory.

They were arrogant conquerors who justified everything they did because they called themselves Gods and that it was the purpose of Gods to be brutal, and they used this pretext to conquer the galaxy. When the species discovered they could take over bodies and make them their own, the Goa'uld fought each other before they unified under a banner to conquer the galaxy, using their natural intelligence combined with ruthlessness and arrogance to carve out a ruthless interstellar empire when they discovered the Stargate on their world.

For centuries after they left their world, the Goa'uld conquered many worlds, stealing the technologies of more advanced cultures and integrating them into their own.

Discovering Furling and Ancient technologies, the Goa'uld created primitive versions of the secrets of the more advanced race, advancing slowly as the centuries passed. They build spacecraft capable of interstellar hyperdrive, they developed weapons of mass destruction that was capable of subduing primitive worlds.

Even the idea of presenting themselves as Gods was not an original Goa'uld Idea. They had taken it from the older races when they saw the power they could gain from it, and in their arrogance, they had come to believe in it.

But the Goa'uld always had a problem, one they had always tried to keep secret; their host bodies were not cut out for the long toll the Goa'uld symbionts put them through, for some reason or another.

When the Goa'uld discovered the planet Earth, they discovered a world full of intelligent life with something in common; they made perfect hosts and the System Lords were able to abandon the bodies they had stolen before; for centuries they had stolen the bodies of alien beings from Unas to Asgard, which were truly unsuited for bonding, but while each body they had acquired over the years had worked to some degree, they hadn't lasted long without a sarcophagus and even then they began genetically falling apart.

While many of the System Lords hated and feared Ra and some even had a degree of power that rivalled his own, there were some things all Goa'uld united for; they had united against Anubis for his brutality which went beyond anything the Goa'uld would tolerate, and they united now as Ra announced the planet in a fairly remote corner of the galaxy where they had never bothered much with in the past had a population of primitives who had no advanced technology of any kind; they had barely invented the telescope, never mind the nuclear reactor.

But the humans of the planet were perfect as hosts for the Goa'uld symbionts and given their primitive status that meant they had a world fertile enough to start work, and with the humans, they could expand their empire.

Once the Goa'uld System Lords settled into their new host bodies without caring about the minds of the humans they had taken, they began carving the planet up with each System Lord dominating a carving of the planet where they dominated the planet for centuries. Under the rules and strict punishment threats of the Supreme System Lord, Ra, none of the System Lords was allowed to bring their own Stargates. They just pretended to go along with it.

All of the System Lords found a loophole to exploit that rule, and System Lord Danu was not alone.

Standing in her facility in a fairly small landmass next to a larger continent in the Northern Hemisphere, Danu watched as her Jaffa workers began securing the Stargate in a hidden facility on the slightly smaller island next to the larger one. In her relatively new human host body, Dana resembled a tall human woman with long coiffured red hair and pale skin with green human eyes.

The System Lord was more than aware that if Ra discovered she had not one, but two Stargates on Earth in these two islands next to the continent, then he would crush her domain. But if he discovered that she had a secret Stargate on the First World when he had lost control of his, and she was still smuggling humans away from this planet and to her domain in space, he would punish her severely. But Danu knew only too well that she was likely not the only one; there were System Lords from Yu, Nirrti, Cronus, and several others who seemed to have increasing numbers of slaves for her projects elsewhere in the galaxy or to expand their territories.

Like all of her fellows, Danu had spent years building her domain, taking slaves off of this world to build it up, even expanding to the Outer Rim of the galaxy and using them to mine the mineral wealth out there, and it was only at this time that her operations had drawn attention to her.

All of the others were doing.

Nirrti was using the humans she took as genetic experiments.

Yu and Cronus were using humans to build their armies up, and Danu was doing likewise but she was expanding her territories and her domain, looking for signs of Furling, Asgard, and Ancient bases in those regions of the galaxy, and making her domain appear as small as possible so as not to attract adverse attention to herself.

Sadly Ra's suspicions and the way he was looking into the increasing numbers of slaves on their worlds made keeping these Stargates operating untenable.

Danu had decided to cut her losses and close down her facilities and return home and focus on her own affairs while she kept her head down. As she looked around the facility which contained the Stargate and the control console as the Jaffa closed it down. It was regrettable she was closing down this facility and the other one on the larger island, their loss and the importation of more slaves would make her have to cut back on many of her plans.

Perhaps when Ra's suspicions and his investigations died down, she would return and continue with her plans.
