When Eva came up from the lair, she found Hartley crying on their couch. "Uh, why are you in my house sobbing?" she questioned.

Hartley jumped up. "I'll go home," she offered, her voice still breaking.

Confused, Eva only glanced at her. "Is everything alright?"

Hartley shrugged. "I don't think so. I might see you later." And then she turned around and fled.

A concerned Eva decided to trek upstairs to check on Jake and Amy, instinctively knowing that whatever was going on with the neighbor girl had something to do with her children. She and Vic had to fix the Colby situation as soon as possible but this situation was worrying her. She opened Jake's door first and found her son curled up in bed, crying. He didn't notice her and a spike of anxiety went through her so she quickly closed his door and went to check on Amy, unsurprised to find her also curled up and sobbing. A chill went down Eva's spine and she quietly closed her daughter's door, heading back down to the lair. "Vic, something's wrong," she urgently informed her husband.

He looked up at her. "Yeah, our son's an old guy!"

She shook her head. "No, not that. Although get to work! But I found Hartley crying in our living room so I checked in on Jake and Amy, and they were crying too. Something must have happened." Eva intended to get to the bottom of it. "Can you handle Colby?"

"You're going to take care of whatever's wrong with Jake and Amy, right? You can handle it better."

Eva could tell he was worried too but she still glared at him. "Why am I in charge of our children's emotional well-being?"

"Because you're their mom and can handle this better?" Vic cringed.

She could only sigh. "I'll go talk to Amy first. Fix it," Eva ordered before leaving the lair once more and rushing upstairs. She chose to check on Amy first and knocked on her daughter's door. Amy scrambled up and frantically tried to wipe the tears off her face as her mother walked in.

"Hey!" Amy's voice cracked and she winced, trying desperately to pull herself back together.

"Hello. Did something happen, sweetheart? You're crying," Eva pressed.

Amy's whole body was shaking but she still tried to lie her way out of whatever the issue was. "I'm fine. It's nothing," she lied.

"Amy!" her mother chided.

"Really, Mom, it's okay. Nothing happened."

Eva cocked her head. "I am your mother so stop lying to me. What happened?"

Amy hesitated for a second, obviously not wanting to spill the truth, and more tears slipped down her face. "Jake and I had a fight, and then Hartley and I did too."

It clearly wasn't the whole truth - just half of one - but Eva knew she wasn't about to get more out of her daughter. Maybe Jake would tell her? She sat down on the bed and half hugged Amy. "I'm sure whatever happened is fixable."

"Thanks, Mom, but shit broke. It's definitely not fixable." Amy's whole body continued to be wracked by sobs so Eva just sat there for a few minutes and rubbed her back until she calmed down just a little.

Eva pressed a kiss to Amy's forehead and then made her way to Jake's hand. Unsurprisingly, he was also still crying. Not wanting to let on that she had talked to Amy, Eva gave her son a smile and sat down on the bed. "What's wrong, sweetheart? What's got you so upset?"

"Everything's wrong, Mom. I really fucked up," Jake informed her, his voice breaking.

She didn't scold him on his language despite wanting to - that'd make her a hypocrite. Besides, it was funny when their children swore (not right now, but still). "You want to elaborate, Jake?"

He really didn't, so like Amy, Jake settled for half-truths. "Amy and I fought - it was really bad and I don't think I can fix this. And on top of that, my girlfriend broke up with me - it was my fault."

Eva did a double take. "You had a girlfriend we didn't know about?"

"Mom, not the point." He tried to wipe the tears off his face but also couldn't stop crying.

Like with Amy, she half hugged her son, rubbed his back to try to calm him down, and waited for him to continue speaking. "Is that it? You don't want to maybe elaborate some more?" Something was deeply wrong with her children and it unsettled Eva.

He shook his head. "Sorry, Mom, but I don't want to talk about it."

"Right now? Or ever?"

Jake shrugged. "Not sure."

"Well, that's alright. You can come to me if you ever walk to talk some more about this situation." Eva kissed the top of his head and then left Jake's room. She gasped after making her way down the stairs when something occurred to her. Maybe she knew why Hartley was upset too - could she be Jake's mystery girlfriend? She had connected the dots! Possibly. Either way, she was going to explain her theory to Vic, and they could get to the bottom of this after fixing Colby. She was sure Amy or Jake would break if they pressed harder. Eva wasn't sure she had ever seen either of them this upset before - it was utterly terrifying. Hopefully they'd be able to fix this situation and get everything back to normal so all they had to worry about was possibly being caught. But something told her this wouldn't be easy to correct, and they'd be dealing with the fallout for a long time to come. But nevertheless, Eva and Vic had several ongoing fires they needed to put out, and as of right now, Colby was their first priority. She desperately hoped Jake and Amy weren't still crying but she knew better and that scared Eva more than anything. Vic definitely needed to realize the gravity of the situation soon so they could deal with it together.

Amy and Jake's world had been flipped upside down tonight, and they'd be living with the aftermath for a long time.
