Chapter one:

Yugi's secret, she is a girl!

Four years have passed since Yugi and the gang said goodbye to their friend, The Pharaoh, Atem. Life around them became dull. Joey and Tristen have been working at Burger World for different reasons. Joey wanted to get his place before going to college. After a discussion with his girlfriend and so-to-be fiancé, Mai Valentine, Joey decided to get a degree in game design. Tristen wants to earn extra money to properly take Serenity, Joey's little sister, on a date after convincing Joey. Tea Gardner had gotten accepted to the Piel Canela new your Latin school for dance; however, she opted in for online classes because they were cheaper, and she could stay near her friends. She told Yugi about her feelings, but Yugi said that while she cared about Tea, she wasn't interested in dating anyone. Yugi told her there was another reason but wasn't ready to talk about it yet. Joey and Tristen would joke about Yugi on Atem, which she wouldn't confirm or deny. However, since they were meeting for lunch today, Yugi would tell his friends her big secret. She was a girl.

They meet up at Burger world after Joey's and Tristen's shift. In recent weeks, his friends have noticed a slight change in Yugi's appearance and behavior. Her hair which usually would stay spike without hair gel or spray, started to droop, and her bangs around his eyes had a slight wave instead of being straight. Yugi knew she had to tell her friends what was going on a specialty with what would happen that summer.

The gang started talking about their summer plans, going to the beach, shopping, and seeing the summer concerts. "This summer is going to rock," Joey said excitedly. "You can say that again," Tristen said as he joined Joey in the dancing they did whenever they felt good about something, win a dual, or something else good. "We are going on vacation time for relaxation," they sang. Tea rolled her eyes at their antics.

"You are coming with us, right, Yugi?" Yugi took a deep breath, knowing it was time. "I'll be spending some time in the hospital." All three of them look at her with concern. "What are you talking about, Yugi?" Tea took one of Yugi's hands in hers. Yugi smiles. "Have you ever wondered why I am so short, shorter than normal?" Yugi took a sip of his soda, not meeting their eyes. "I just thought it was genetics; grandpa moto is short too," Joey said. Yugi shook his head. "Not when he was a young man; Grandpa was about 5'10-5'11 in his prime." Joey nodded. "I have known you most of your life, and I thought you were a late bloomer." Tea twirled a strain of her hair between her fingers.

"I will be in a few weeks. Let me explain." Yugi took a deep breath, knowing this would be hard to say and hard for her friends to understand. She hoped they would still accept her. "When I was three years old, my parents were concerned when I wasn't meeting the height milestone for my ag, despite everything they did. Ensuring I eat right, getting the vitamins and other nutrients for growing up. So, they took me to a doctor and discovered that I have an unknown form of dwarfism which can come in different forms. My dwarfism makes everything smaller." Yugi explains. Joey couldn't keep from asking a blunt question. "Even your dick?" Tea smack Joey in the back of the head. "Joey, that was rude and insensitive." She spoke.

Yugi folded her hands and rested her chin on them, keeping a straight face. "What dick?" he said while they were taking a drink and was spitting it all over the table. He pulled out a folder from his bag for them to look through. Inside was a photo of Yugi and his parents in dresses and skirts. "I have never corrected anyone when they address me because I didn't see a reason to. I look like a little boy, so I was a boy." She pointed to the enclosed birth certificate stating that Yugi was a female. "That does explain a few things." Tea said as she remembered Yugi would never use the school restrooms or gym lockers. Even in public, she never saw Yugi use the bathroom.

"While this is interesting and going to take getting used to, what does it have to do with you going to the hospital this summer," Tristen asked, seeing Yugi in a new light. "When I was 10, my parents tried a new experimental drug, hoping for me to gain a bit of height at least. However, it failed. Instead, it blocks my puberty glands from growing. It stops me from going through puberty." Yugi took another sip of her drink, unsure how her friends were taking her news. "What do you mean?" Joey asked, looking confused. Yugi chuckled at Joey's slow mind. "Joey, my body is still that of a young girl. I didn't grow my breast nor start my menstrual cycle." Joey nodded, trying to fight the urge to look down at Yugi's chest and not think of her with breast.

"My doctor recently reached out to me and told me that she thinks she has found a solution to my puberty. A new experimental drug that has worked on others, and the doctor wants me to try it. However, she wants me in the hospital so she can monitor me. I think she is taking responsibility for what happened last time even though she wasn't involved." Yugi put the folder back in her bag before standing up. "I'll be heading to the hospital in two days. After all this, I understand if you don't want to be friends, but I knew I had to tell you." She started to walk away only to be pulled back by Joey. "Yug, we have been friends for over five years. You and Tea have been friends for a lot longer. We have followed you into danger, the shadow realm, and the memory world. We were there when we said goodbye to Atem. Yes, this might take some getting used to, but we won't stop being your friends over something little as this." Tea and Tristen agree with Joey's words. "Yugi, speaking of Atem, did he…." Tea asked cautiously.

She could see Yugi was close to breaking down due to hiding for so long and saw relief in her eyes. "I truly have no idea. If he did, he never said anything." Yugi shook her head as if trying to stop herself from crying over what she wasn't sure. "ill sees you later. I have things to do before I head to the hospital." Yugi pulled her bag over her shoulder and walked away, leaving her friends alone.

"Yugi still misses Atem. I still say she cares for him for than a friend." Joey said as he watched her walk away. He could see her body slightly shake as if trying to hold back tears. Tea and Tristen nodded in agreement. "After all this time, although I know she has her reasons for not talking about it with us. I wish she could heal and move on" Tristen place a hand on Tea's shoulder. "Maybe this treatment will help, and we will be there for her, no matter what" they all agree to visit Yugi as much as possible in the coming weeks.

They didn't know that other people were listening in the shadows and making plans to help. A new adventure was about to begin. Will Yugi and her friends make it out on top?
