Chapter 7: who am I?
Once they took off, Roland came out of the cockpit. "Mr. Kaiba, it looks like there are several storms in our flight path, so we must take a detour which will add an extra 2-3 hours to our flight." He said. Seto Nodded was pleased with how much his workers valued his and his friends' lives. "Looks like we are going to have a long ride, so get comfy," he said
Yugi sat between the window and Atem across from Mia. Mia was sitting with her knee brought up to her chest, staring out the window. "Mia, you good?" Yugi asked. Mia looked at her and saw her concerned eyes. "it just feels strange. Even though I shared a body with Marik for years, it never felt right. Now in this body, my original according to RA, it feels . . . . better, but I still feel lost. Who am I? Who is Mia Rai?" She said. Yugi leaned forward, taking her hand. "We will help you." She said. "I get it, Mia, while I shared a body with Yugi before I got my memories back. I was asking the same questions. Yugi and our friends help me, and she is right. We can help you," Atem said, smiling at Mia, who chuckled. "I don't know why there is something about you, Yugi, that makes me want to believe anything you said." She said. Yugi just shrugged. "it's a gift," she joked.
Seth walked over to them and sat down next to Mia. "forgive me, but I still don't understand why I don't remember you being the person I summoned. However, I remember you coming to the palace for an event before Aknamkanon's death. I can't remember what that event was." He said, rubbing his temple, trying to force the memory to come. Isis came up and placed a head on Seth's shoulder. "I remember an event, but when I try to remember specifics, things go all fuzzy, and I get a headache." She said.
"Yugi, I have your grandfather and Aknamkanon on video chat. Do you want to talk to him?" Seto said with his laptop. Yugi smiled, took the computer, and placed it on the table between her and Mia. "Hi grandpa, Aknamkanon. I am fine." She said. Both men looked relieved. "I am glad to hear, my girl." Grandpa said. "thank you, Atem, for keeping your promise." He added. Yugi looked at Atem, confused. "he made me promise not to come back without you." Atem explained. Yugi nodded. "Hey, Aknamkanon, maybe you can answer a question for us. Do you remember an event before your death where a girl named Mia Rai came to the palace?" She asked. "Mia Rai? There is a name I haven't heard in a long time. Why do you ask?" Aknamkanon ask. Yugi turned the laptop for Mia would be shown. "hello, your majesty." Mia said, bowing a bit. "oh by the Gods, Miss Mia. You look just as pretty as the last time I saw you." he said. Mia blushed. "Father, stop being an old flirt," Atem said. Aknamkanon Laugh heartily
Sitting with Odion and Ishizu, Marik couldn't help but feel a little jealous. He didn't know why he felt that, but he did. Ishizu's phone rang, and she went to the other room to answer it not to disturb anyone.
"so you do remember her?" Atem asked his father. "Yes, she came to your betrothal party," Aknamkanon said. Everyone's mind stopped. "my what?" Atem said, jumping up. "your betrothal party. You know where you get engaged to be married. I can't remember the girl, but you did love her very much. Everyone did. Noble and peasant alike. She was a real sweetheart just like your mother." He explained. "I don't remember ever getting married in my time as prince or pharaoh!" Atem yelled. Yugi was getting concerned. She knew he hated having his mind mess with. "that's because we lost her the day before your wedding. I don't remember how but she died. The whole kingdom mourned for several weeks after." His father said. "I would still remember getting betrothed, but I don't remember anything," Atem said, clutching his hands into a fist.
"that might be my fault." Mahad walked over after hearing Atem yell. "I remember you extremely depressed, refusing to leave your room, you wouldn't speak to anyone, not even Mana could get you to smile, and after discussing it with your father, we decided to help your pain. I cast a spell not to remove the memories but ease the pain. I guess it messed up, and everyone was affected. We can remember someone but not who." He said. Atem stared at his longest friend and mentor. He couldn't speak; instead, he walked into another room. Yugi jumped up to run after him. "Yugi, we only meant to help." Mahad said. She didn't turn around. "after all our adventure, watching people getting their minds messed with. The very people he was supposed to trust mess with his mind. " She said, letting it sink in as she raced after Atem.
Atem entered the other room and punched the wall. He turned around the leaned against, not caring about his now burse hand. "Atem," someone said. He looked up to see Yugi looking at him with concerned eyes. "I am sorry, Yugi. To hear that they made me forget someone I greatly care for. It brought back feelings like when you were taken from me by the orichalcos." Atem slid to the floor, putting his head in his hand. Yugi sat down in front of him, between his feet. She took his hands in hers, forcing him to look at her. 'I don't think they meant to take away the memories, just the pain. It's hurt to lose someone you love. It happened to me twice. Once when my parents died and when you went away." She said, smiling sadly. "when I got your letter saying you're coming back, can you guess what I did first?" Yugi said, allowing the memory of getting that letter back to her. Atem looked at her in confusion. "I thought you would have been happy." He said. Yugi shook her head. "for a second, I thought it was someone sick trick. The day you left came to my mind, and the pain I felt rushed back. I couldn't go through that again. The same way you are feeling right now. We need that pain to help us heal, and how that you're here, I feel like I can take over the world." She said, laughing.
"ill be here for you as you and Mia learn more about what happened. I'll help you through this pain." She said as she kissed him on his bruised hand. Atem closed his eyes and felt Yugi's feeling of love and comfort through the bond. He also felt something in his packet. It was the necklace he bought earlier at the mall. He knew that Yugi was right. He smiled as he brought the box out of his packet. "Yugi, whoever that other girl was. You are right. You are my future. We need the pain to heal, but we also need each other. This is for you." He said, handing her the box. Yugi took and opened it to find the gold necklace shaped like the millennium puzzle, only smaller. It even had her birthstone in the eye. "Atem, it's beautiful." She said, taking the necklace out of the box and putting it in Atem's hand. She turned and lifted her hair. Atem gently put the chain around her neck and clasped it. She turned back around to face him. "I love it," she said. Atem could help to think how perfect it looked at her. "it's back where it belongs, figuratively." He said as he gently kissed her. the kiss was sweet at first but quickly turned passionately, and their hands started roaming over the bodies, and they started grinding and humping against each other. They were in their little world, and nothing else mattered.
After 15-20 minutes, they return to the group. Both were smiling, clothes messed up, and at least one or two hickeys were visible, which either one was ashamed. Atem sat back in his chair only to have Yugi sit in his lap with his arm wrapped tightly around her waist. Tea couldn't help to tease her friend. "Stress relief much, Yugi," she said. Yugi just stuck her tongue out at her. "at least we know one thing." Mana said, smiling brightly. "what's that, Mana," Isis asked. "Whenever Atem is upset. Sick Yugi on him," she joked. Everyone laughed out loud at Tea and Mana's jokes, feeling the tension leave the room, while Atem had his face in Yugi's neck.
"There is only one thing I didn't understand about the girl Atem was betrothed to." Aknamkanon said. "what's that, father." Atem said, feeling better about the whole thing. "All of us end up in the afterlife. But not her. she wasn't there. Even my brother, Akandin, was there." He said. The Egyptians all realized the former king was right. "I do have a theory as to why though. I am not sure, but I know some souls, the pure and light ones, can skip the afterlife and go into reincarnation. I think she might have gotten reincarnated. But without knowing her name or face, I have no clue where to start looking." He said.
Ishizu came back right at the end of his explanation. "I might be able to help with that. That was the museum. It seems we got some new artifacts and records that mention Atem." She said. Everyone looked at her with a huge smile. "Great, once we land, we can go to the museum and look them over." She said, only to hear several stomachs making noises, making everyone giggle. "correction, we eat at the game shop first and then go to the museum." She corrected herself, laughing. "ill have pizza waiting for you when you get here." Grandpa said, ending the call to order pizza.
Once they landed, everyone headed for Kaiba limo, except Marik, who walked over to his motorcycle. "ill join you at the museum. I need to stop by the club for a bit." Once at his bike, he saw Mia look at it with extreme interest. He smiles and opens his saddlebag, and pulls out an extra helmet. He held it up to her. she smiled and ran over to him. Mia put on the helmet and climbed on behind him, and they took off. Ishizu and Odion look at each other. "Is it safe for those two to be alone?" She asked. Yugi was slightly peeved at the lack of faith even though she understood their feelings. "Mia will not do anything," she said. "It's not Mia we are worried about," Odion said. Everyone climbed into the limo and headed for the moto family game shop.
Meanwhile, Marik weaved and bobbed through the busy highway of Domino city. He looked at Mia using his side mirror. She has a massive smile as she felt the wind on her face. 'After everything Mia has done, I can't bring myself to hate her. She is cute. Why do I feel this way?' he thought while blushing, feeling Mia's arms around his waist. He revved the engine to speed up without speeding. Mia squealed with excitement and wrapped her arms tighter around his waist. Marik mentally enjoys making her laugh or squeak.
After a bit, they exited the highway and maded their way to a large building with several neon signs that were not on at the moment since it was daytime. He pulled into a spot that said boss and cut the engine. He climbed off and removed his helmet. Mia got off the bike as well. Mia tripped and fell into Marik because her legs were a little shaky. He caught her with no problem. "you alright?" he asked. She looked up, nodded, and smiled. She was a little nervous being alone with him after everything that went down between them. "you enjoyed that, did you?" Marik ask with a playful smirk. "you forget we shared a body for a long time. One of my joys was riding on that motorcycle. It was a few times I felt free," she said. They did notice how close they were and quickly moved away from each other, blushing. "let's go in," Marik said, holding a hand out to her. she hesitantly took it, and when their hand touched, there was a gold spark that either one noticed.
As they walk into the building and through the halls, several workers stop to say hello to Marik. He would return the greeting but kept walking. Some of them eyed Mia with mild interest. They passed the kitchen, and a tall red spiked hair man walked out. "Morning, Marik. When you get a chance, can you approve the food order for next week? I want to get it out asap." He said. Marik nodded. "that's one of the reasons I am here today, Ricky. Yours and several other orders need to be approved." He said. Ricky then noticed the girl with Marik. "and who is this lovely lady? I am Ricky, the head chef. I can whip up any food your heart desires?" he said, holding his hand out for her to take. She took it, thinking he was going to shake, only to have him bring it up to his lips in a small kiss.
Mia giggled at the lovely lady's comment and blushed at her hand being kissed. It might have been the standard in ancient Egypt, but she didn't think today's men still did that. Mia also felt nervous about it. She wasn't too keen on new people with her past. But Marik seemed to think he was alright, and right now, Mia trusted Marik. Marik couldn't help to feel a protective, slight jealous wave over Mia come over him. 'why am I feeling like this' he thought, mentally shaking his head. "This is Mia Rai. Mia, don't trust anything this man says. He's a huge prankster as well flirt." He said.
Ricky placed one of his hands on his chest as if he was hurt. "Boss, you wound me." He joked. Marik just rolled his eyes. He dealt with Ricky's antic before. "I'm so sure," he said sarcastically. "Listen, get your ass back in that kitchen and make some of your famous roast beef sandwich for us." He ordered. Ricky gives him a two-finger salute. "coming up, boss man, with two cokes." He said as he disappeared into the kitchen. Marik shook his head and continued to his office. "He's a good guy and a great chef. He's just a little annoying at times." He said as he opened the door to his office.
Marik's office was relatively large, with several comfy chairs and loveseats. He had a crescent moon shape desk in front of a sizeable tented window that looked out to the club. On his desk was an impressive desktop computer. "That door leads to a bathroom with a shower if you want to take one. I think Ishizu left some clothes she wanted to donate." He said as he sat down at his computer and turned it on. Mia nodded and entered the bathroom. 'A shower does sound nice; maybe I could get him to join me. Wait, why did I think that?' Mia thought, blushing. She shook her head and started to remove her cloth. She left the door slightly open just if she or Marik needed anything. Marik looked up from the computer and saw Mia's nude back facing the mirror next to the door. He noticed she had a large tattoo of the winged dragon of Ra on her back near her neck, unlike his back, which had the tomb keeper's in scriptures. Marik raised an eyebrow but then started thinking of other body parts that her baggy cloth was hiding. He quickly shook his head and returned to his work.
After 10 minutes, Mia walked out, feeling refreshed. She was wearing an off-the-shoulder, see though sleeve dark blue blouse with a black pleated mini skirt. Her hair had been dried, brushed, and fell in soft curls and waves down her back with her bangs partly covering one eye. She wore a gold chain belt that hung off one hip and black with gold embroidery boots. "is this alright?" she said as she stood with a hand on one hip. When Marik looked up at her, he almost fell out of his chair. "Damn," he said, making Mia blush. "I can change if you don't like it." she said, about to go back into the bathroom to find something else. "wait," Marik said, opening a drawer and pulling out a small box. He stood up and walked over to her. "You look fine. But something is missing. Turn around," he ordered. Mia did as she was told and closed her eyes. Marik placed a gold chain necklace with a miniature millennium rod around her neck. Mia fingered the rod as she turned around to face Marik. "I bought it at the mall the other day. I didn't know why but I want you to have it." he said, twirling a few strains of hair between his fingers. "thank you," she said. Either one noticed how close they were.
Suddenly there was a knock at the office door. They both jump back slightly, blushing. Ricky walked in carrying a tray. "Two Ricky's famous roast beef sandwiches with two coco-colas." He said, smiling. He noticed they both were blushing. "Did I interrupt something?" he asked. "No, please place the food on the table. I just approved your order, so you should be able to see it out now," Marik said, trying to get rid of him quickly. Ricky placed the tray and left.
Marik locked the door behind him. 'what the fucking just happened? I am supposed to hate Mia, but.' he thought as he looked at Mia, who was staring at the floor. 'I am doing the opposite. I am falling in love.' He thought. "we better eat," he said as he sat on the loveseat. Mia sat down next to him, taking one of the sandwiches. 'why am I like this, was Marik going to kiss me. Twice that had happened. Do I even deserve his love? Do I deserve to be loved after everything I have done, and can I love him back?' she thought. Suddenly she felt like someone had slapped her in the back of the head, and a little voice said, you won't know unless you try. After eating, she took a deep breath and turned to Marik. 'whatever this is, I must see it through. It might be the only way I can heal.' She thought. "Marik," she started to say. He turned to her. "I know I don't deserve forgiveness, but I am willing to try. I am willing to do anything I have to. I just wanted you to know that." She said, closing her eyes, not wanting to see his reaction. Marik was quiet for a long time. 'I need to let go of the past.' He said to himself.
Marik pushed some of her bangs behind her hair, causing her to open her eyes. He could see slight tears forming in them. They were full of remorse and fear. "when I first saw you were back. I had every intention of hating you. However, when I saw how you helped Yugi and saved all of us on the island. I found myself confused. You are not the same person who did those things. Either am I. we have to change and learn from our mistakes. Let me ask this. If everyone would be able to forgive you, could you forgive yourself?" he said. Mia couldn't talk because she didn't know. "why don't we start with this?" he said gently, lowing his lips to hers. Mia took a second before kissing him back. Either one noticed a warm and loving wave of energy from them going out.
Meanwhile, Yugi and the gang arrived at the game shop, where fresh pizza awaited them. What Odion and Ishizu said earlier was still bugging her for some reason. "Ishizu, Odion, can I talk to you too for a minute." She asked. Both Ishtars nodded, and Yugi noticed Atem would stay as well. "Alone. Please," she said. Atem nodded /I'll be right inside/ he told her through the bond. Yugi nodded before turning her attention to the Ishtars. "what can we do for you, Yugi" Ishizu said, knowing what this was about. Yugi took a deep breath, wanted to get her point across while still being respectful. "you implied that you were concerned about Mia being alone with Marik. Why" she asked. Odion and Ishizu look at each for a second. "When we were on the island, Marik told us that he didn't hate Mia. He couldn't, even after everything she did. Tell you the truth, neither can we. She made a mistake." Ishizu said, thinking back to their conversation in the tent.
"as he said before, we went to the mall. He was lost. Before today, there were times we would catch him looking out a window or staring into the sky, looking sad. When we asked about it, he would say something wasn't right, something or someone was missing." Odion said, remembering the lost look he would see on Marik's face, not knowing how to help his little brother. "I, we think that someone was Mia. Marik loves her but just doesn't know it. When Atem's father was talking about her beauty, I noticed a hint of jealousy that came over his face, which he quickly pushed down." Ishizu said. "it's similar to how I felt when Atem left came back. And when we shared our first kiss, it felt like the world was happy; everything was right again. I was whole." Yugi said, smiling. "we don't know about Mia, but we don't want Marik to try something, be rejected, and end up hurting them both." Odion said.
Yugi looked up at the clouds rolling by. There was a gentle breeze hitting her face. "he will have to try. They won't know unless they try. Besides, Mia won't make the first move. In a short time, I got to know her, and I can see she is still extremely ashamed of her actions. Mia won't even think about pursuing a relationship with anyone." She said. They both nodded with understanding. "one more thing, if they do end up in a relationship. Let Marik know one thing." She said with a red tint to her eyes. Both Ishtars were listening closely. "For some reason, I have grown rather protective of Mia. So if he hurt her in any way, he will be BEGGING for the shadow realm when I am, though." She said in a threatening tone.
For a second, Odion and Ishizu felt a princess or queen of Egypt was addressing them. Odion recovers first and kneels before her. "I don't think there will be a problem, little princess." He said. Yugi's eyes return to normal as she cock her head to one side at the little princess's commitment. "you are the Pharaoh's girl, so you are the little princess. We both swear loyalty to you," Ishizu said with a smile as Odion kissed Yugi's forehead.
Suddenly there was a flashback in Yugi mine of a young man who looked like Odion protecting three very young children, two of whom look like herself and Mia. "ARI!" She could hear them scream before returning to the present. 'what was that? She thought, shaking her head. "let's get some pizza." She said as she entered her home. Atem was waiting for her. "everything alright, Aibou." He asked, pulling out a chair for her. "yes, let's eat." She said, taking a slice of cheese pizza. After a bit, Joey and Tristen decide who could eat more portions in under a minute, making everyone laugh. They had their fill and determined a change of clothes and showers were in order. Lucky there was enough hot water. Everything seems back to normal for now.
Once everyone was done, they felt a wave of energy pass through them. "what was that?" Joey looked down to see if anything was missing or changed. "not sure, but we felt that before. The morning after, Atem and his family return." Ishizu said, causing Yugi and Atem to look at each other. That was when they had their first kiss. "Let's worry about it later. If everyone is done eating, let's head to the museum." Yugi got up and skipped to the door. Everyone else got up to fall her.
