Chapter 11:
The past revealed.
The following day everyone met in the living room. Everyone had their little private conversations. Yugi looked around at everyone. She knew today would be hard. She stood up and cleared her throat. Everyone stop talking to look at her. "Okay, today we learn about the past. Who knows what we will find out. If anyone wants to back out, now is the time. Once we leave today, there is no going back." Yugi said, allowing a few minutes for everyone to decide if they still wanted to back out. No one moved. "Alright, Seto, is the car ready?" She asked. Seto nodded. "Ishizu, what about the museum?" Yugi asked. "Yes, I was able to get a private showing. We will have the whole building to ourselves." Ishizu said. "Very well, let's get going," Yugi said, walking out of the room and the house. One by one, they follow her.
Seto and Ishizu were the last ones to leave. Ishizu was about to leave the room when Seto caught her arm. "Ishizu, wait," Seto said, letting go of her arm. "Yes, Seto, what can I do for you?" She said. "Yugi is right, and we don't know what the future will hold." He said, pulling out a box from his pocket. "this has been burning a hole in my pocket since I bought it a week ago. I want you to have it. I was also hoping I could take you out to dinner." He said, handing her the box. Ishizu slowly opened the box to find the necklace that was a smaller version of the millennium necklace with her birthstone in it. "oh, Seto." She said as she took it out of the box and put it on. "what took you? I thought you weren't interested." Ishizu said with a smile. Seto cupped her cheek using his thump to rub it. "I have never been good at telling people how I feel." He said. "ill help you" Ishizu leaned up and kissed his lips. He returned the kiss before taking her hand and walking her out.
Everyone was waiting for the limo. "what kept you, moneybag?" Joey said. Tea smacked him in the back of the head. Atem saw the necklace around Ishizu's next and smiled. 'about time.' He thought. Once they were all settled, Seto tapped the window to let the driver go.
Forty-five minutes later, they arrive at the museum. Jacques came out to greet them. "hello, Miss Ishtar and friends. Everything is ready. Once you win, I'll lock the doors." He said. They all nodded as they walked past him and into the building. They walk the hall to the Children of the Gods exhibit. Each one took a breath as they walked in. just as last time, there were different portraits and artifacts. The paintings of the two girls were still there, but the museum had added a third.
It was of a young man who snow-white hair and blue eyes. He was wearing dark, light blue battle armor with a sword on his back. Behind him was Obelisk, the tormentor. The gold plaque read Lord Bakura: the warrior, Son of Obelisk the Tormentor.
Ryo looked at Bakura, who was eyeing the portrait. Nobody said anything as they looked around. There was more portrait of children playing in front of the orphanage. Yugi came to a giant picture that had the three of them together with someone else. "Odion?" she said out loud. "yes, Yugi," Odion answered, hearing his name. "no, it's Odion in this portrait. They all came over the look at the picture. The man who looked like Odion with the children were sitting in an oversize chair reading a storybook. Yugi look at the plaques which read Yuki, Mia, and Bakura enjoying a story told to them by their guardian Father Ari.
"Wow, they look alike, but this Father Ari doesn't have the runes on his face like Odion," Marik said. "They look happy." Tea said. "We were," Bakura said, looking at the portrait. "I remember now. After my village was destroyed, He brought me to the orphanage. Father Ari was a priest who ran the orphanage. He introduced me to Yuki and Mia. We became a family. They were my sisters, and he was our father." He said, allowing a tear to fall. Ryo wiped it away. Bakura smiled at him in thanks. "Do the records say what happened to him.?" Yugi asked. Ishizu walked over to the record the museum could translate. "it just says that the orphanage was attacked and Father Ari and several other children were killed." She said. Yugi looked at Mia and Bakura, who both nodded. "Let's find out." She said, placing a hand on the bottom of the portrait while mia and Bakura placed their hand on the side. The picture started to glow, and there was a strong wind. "Here we go again," Joey yells as they pull into the portrait.
When they open their eyes, they find themselves in a field. "Over there," Yugi pointed to three children playing. It was younger Mia, Yuki, and Bakura. "Toss it over here, Kura," Yuki said. "Okay, get ready" Bakura kicked the ball to Yuki, who missed it, and the ball rolled into the river. "You always kick too hard, Bakura." Mia said, laughing. "ill get it." Yuki said, running to retrieve the ball and laughing. The sound of their laugh made everyone smile. Three Innocent children had no idea of the future. "Careful, Yuki. Father Ari said there are crocodiles in the river." Bakura said. "I will be careful," Yuki said, looking for the ball. She found only to drop it because she saw something in the water. It was a person. "Mia, Bakura, get Father Ari. There is someone in the river," Yuki yelled. Mia race back into the orphanage to get Father Ari. Yuki was able to pull the person closer to shore. When she turned him over, she was shocked to see who it was. Prince Atem. She looked to see a tall, dark tan, a medium-build man with a long ponytail. "Father Ari, it's the prince." She said. Father Ari nodded and carefully lifted him out of the water. "let's get him inside; we can assess his injuries, then ill send a letter to the palace." Father Ari said.
They all brought Prince Atem into the orphanage and lay him on one of the cots. "Yuki, stay with him while I get some medical items. Mia, I need you to run back outside and get some water. Bakura…." He looks for his third charge. He found him by the door, staring angrily at the prince. Yuki saw this too. "Bakura, it wasn't his fault. Now snap out of it and help," she yelled. Bakura shook his head and looked at Father Ari. "can you please find some clean rags, as many as you can." Father asked. Bakura nodded, giving the prince one more look before running off.
Father Ari gathered what he needed and returned to the prince and Yuki. He noticed Yuki was muttering under her breath. "the baka." She said. "Yuki." Father Ari said. Yuki looked up at the only man she had as a father figure. "you know he is still suffering." He said. "I know that. I know he still blames the Pharaoh for the death of the village. He doesn't even though if the Pharaoh order it or not." She snarled. "you don't think he did?" Father Ari asks as he crushes up some herbs to make a paste. "our pharaoh is kind and fair; I can't see him ordering the death of an entire village, not without cause." Yuki said, looking over Prince Atem for other injuries. She found two punctures close together. "Father Ari, he's got a snake bite." She said. "Damn," he said. Most snakes in Egypt were poisonous.
Just then, both Bakura and Mia returned with the rags and water. "perfect timing, you two." Father Ari said, taking the rag and water from them. "I also found some bark of camphor tree," Mia said, handing jerky-looking bark to Father Ari. He placed the bark in water. "good, that will help with the fever he will get. We need to get the poison out ill….." he said. "too late," Bakura said, seeing Yuki with her mouth on the snake bite, sucking out the poison blood and spitting it in a nearby bucket. "Yuki." Father Ari looked at her both in pride and worry. He was proud of her fast thinking but didn't know if the poison could spread to her. "We don't know how long he was in water nor when he was a bit. Sucking out the surrounding blood is the fast way to get the poison out," she said in between spits. After a bit, the blood ran clear of poison. Mia brought Yuki a glass of water, and Bakura gave her a rag to wipe her mouth with. "thank you." She said to both. "why do you have to be the reckless one?" Bakura said. "someone has to have the balls to get things done around here." Yuki said. "Yuki uncalled for," Father Ari said, not looking at her. "Sorry, Father," Yuki said, returning to her seat next to prince Atem.
"Can you get his shirt off him?" Father Ari asked. Yuki went to remove his shirt but couldn't. "this is why I hate the royal clothing. Total unpractical." Yuki said, looking around and finding her knife under the bed. She sliced his shirt in two. "was that necessary" Mia asked. "I'll make him a new one," Yuki said. Father Ari took the paste he made and rubbed it on Prince Atem's chest. "Yansoon for congestion," Father Ari said as he saw Prince Atem was getting a fever. "now how to get bark in him." He said. "give it to me," Yuki said, taking the bark from Father Ari and took a bit, chewing for a bit, then gently pushing it into Prince Atem's mouth. "crude but effective." Father Ari After a bit, the fever passed. "he should be fine for now. Yuki, stay with him. I am going to send a letter to the palace. I am sure they are looking for him. Bakura, Mia, why don't you help me with at." Father Ari said, walking out of the room with Bakura and Mia behind him.
Yuki gently dabbed a wet rag on Atem's forehead. Slow he opened his eyes and saw her. "is this the afterlife? Are you an angel?" he said. Yuki blushed and chuckled. "I am no angel. We found you in the Nile River. Can you tell me what happens?" She asked. Atem closed his eyes again. "my father and I was traveling back from the lower kingdom. We were attacked. I must have fallen over bored. If you are no angel, then who are you? And how old are you?" he said. "Yuki. I am 10 summers old. I'll let father Ari know you are awake." She said, starting to walk away, but Atem gently caught her hand. She looked back at him. "Same as me, ten summers, thank you, Yuki," he said. Yuki smiled as she left.
"That must have been when you first met," Yugi said to Atem, who nodded.
A couple of days later, Prince Atem was all better, waiting for his father to pick him up. To pass the time, he plays with Yuki and Mia. He stayed away from Bakura. He had a sense that Bakura hated him for some reason. He asked Yuki about it one day. "it's not my place to say, but your father's soldiers destroyed Bakura's village." She said, getting tired of Bakura's attitude. "my father wouldn't do that. Not without just cause." Prince Atem said in shock. "I agree, but he's got a thick skull. I keep hoping one day we can visit the palace and maybe he can ask the Pharaoh himself. Till then, ill just deal with his attitude." Yuki said. "I don't get your family dynamic. You seem like a family but your not." He said, confused. "there is no blood, but we care for each other as if we are family. Bakura and Mia are my brother and sister, and Father Ari is our father. We look after each other. Family doesn't have to be blood." Yuki said.
Yuki noticed something head their way. "I think your father might be here." She said, walking to the front of the building. They saw black and red banners with soldiers and horses. Atem knew something was wrong. "those are not my father's soldiers. We need to get inside." He grabbed her hand and ran inside where father Ari was with Mia and Bakura. "who are they?" he asked Father Ari. "people who can't take no for an answer. Stay inside if needed, get below, and follow the tunnels out. Keep the prince safe." Father Ari said as he went to meet the men. Mia looked out the window. "Those are lord Zorc's men. They have been here before. They wanted us. I don't understand. Normally Father Ari would be thrilled if someone wanted to adopt us, but he said they are bad men, and Lord Zorc is supposed to be mean." She said.
Suddenly they heard what sounded like bombs going off. It causes them to run outside. Outside look like a war zone. Some of the kids have been killed by the bombs or by the men they did not know. "let's find Father Ari and get out of here." Yuki said. They all nodded and started to search for Father Ari when two of the evil men came out of the shadows. "there you are, children of the prophecy." One of the men said. "I thought there were only three children, not four." The other said. "three-four what's the different the soon we killed them, our lord Zorc will raise." The first man said, charging at the children. He was about to hit them when a shadow monster came out of nowhere and blocked his attack. It was the Embodiment of Apophis monster. Two others came out of nowhere and surrounded the kids, protecting them. "good work, my monsters," Father Ari came running over to them. "are you alright?" he asked. All four of them nodded. "Father Ari, where did you get a royal disc summoner ?" Atem asked. "I have had this for a very long time. I hoped I never had to use it, but I will protect you. Now stay behind me." He said. "Father Ari, they said something about children of the prophecy. What are they talking about?" Yuki said. "something I never wanted you to know about." He said. More men came out of the shadows. "Get back. Monsters attack." He yelled. All three monsters charge at the men, not realizing it is a trap. One of the men came out from Father Ari's shadow. He took his sword and stabbed Father Ari in the back. "no, Father Ari!" the three kids ran to him as he fell. Atem picked up one of the swords and hit the man, making him disappear. "Father Ari. Don't go." Yuki cried. Father Ari knew he was dying, and he knew the kids' powers would be released with his death. When the kids first came to him, he was told they held great power. Father Ari used a spell to bind their power to himself to ensure their childhood, and only when he died would they be given their gifts. "Children…..listen to …me You were born….. to do…. Great things…. Do not…let…yourselves fall into ….into the.,…. Fallowing traps. Don't give…in…to…sadness…..anger…and grief. They blind you, and you won't hear your fathers' call." He said between his breath. "our fathers' call, what are you talking about." Mia asked, crying. "Prince….Atem….I must…ask …..for…a favor," Father Ari said. Atem came over and kneeled before him. "anything." he said. This is the man that saved his life. Atem owed him a debt. "keep …. Them…safe…. more people …will…come..for…them..and …I cant. protect…them….anymore." Father Ari said. "I will. I swear it." Atem said. "one last time….I have loved you three…. as my own. …. Don't forget that." He said with his dying breath. "Ari!" the kids cried. Some marks appear on the bodies. Mia was on her back; it was the winged dragon of Ra; Yuki was on her left hip; it was Slifer, the sky dragon. And Bakure was on his collarbone. All three started to glow, and a huge blast came from their bodies, destroying all the evil men. When the dust had settled, they were on the ground near Father Ari's body. Atem ran over to Yuki. "are you alright?" he asked. He had seen shadow magic before in his father's court but not impressive. "I don't know what that was." She said, crying, staring at Father Ari. "he's gone?" Mia asked, also crying. "he cant be. What will happen to us?" Bakura said, sobbing as well.
Suddenly Atem heard horses. He thought it was evil, so he stood ready to fight. Once they were in view, he saw Mahad and Seto. "Prince Atem, we have found you. Are you alright?" Seto said, jumping off his horse and running over to him. "yes, Seto, but…." He said, looking over his shoulder at the three kids and Father Ari's body. "what happened here, my prince." Mahad asked. "they had saved me from the river a couple of days ago; I was sick, they nursed me back to health, and today we were attacked. They killed Father Ari." Atem said. "I know of Father Ari. He was a good man." Seto said, looking sadly at the children who were crying. "I promise him I would keep them safe, and I will keep my promise," Atem said, thinking they would just abandon his new friends. Mahad and Seto look at each other before nodding. "they will come back to the palace with us. Your father will find something for them." Mahad said. "What about Father Ari?" Bakura asked. Seto and Mahad look at each other again before agreeing. "the men will wrap the body up and take it to the palace as Seto said he was a good man. He should get funeral rights." Mahad said as he motioned for the guards to start wrapping the body. The men also brought three more horses over. Mia and Bakura took one each, and Atem and Yuki took the other. The group rode to the palace in silence.
The gang blinked and found themselves back in the museum. "they took us to the palace where the Pharaoh was deeply upset about what happened. He gave us all a place in the palace. Yuki studied healing under Isis, I worked with Mahad with magic, and Bakura worked with Seto and Anakin in fighting." Mia said with tears going down her cheeks. "he did find out who I was, told me what happened and why. He asked for forgiveness." Bakura said. "you didn't give it to him." Joey said, thinking of Zorc and what Bakura did. "the funny thing is. I forgive him. with the Pharaoh's help; I work through my grief. Why did I forget?" Bakura said. "More questions. Always more questions," Yugi said.
"I think it had something to do with the temple of the gods." Mia said, thinking of something. "what?" they said. "I remember going to the temple of the gods after Yuki's death. I just can't remember what." She said
Suddenly the wind picked up again. This time Mia's portrait was glowing. "I guess we are going to find out," Yugi said as the picture pulled in.
This time they found themselves in a temple. "there you are, Mia." Yugi said, pointing to a horse riding up with an older Mia, about 16 summers. "let's watch and see what happens." She said.
Mia jumped off her horse and started walking into the temple of the Gods. "Father Ra, this had better be important. I need to make final preparations for Yuki's funeral. The Pharaoh is insisting on the full queen of Egypt rights." She said out loud as she approached the altar. "now what is this…." Mia stopped when she saw Yuki's body. The Egyptian Gods in their human forms around her. "Just what do you three think you are doing with Yuki's body? Why is she not at the mummification room?" she yelled. The three Gods look at her. "trying to right a wrong." Slifer said he had the millennium book in front of him. "you can't bring her back. Once we are dead, we stay dead. We can only hope to enter the afterlife." Mia said. "not true, my child." Ra said. Mia crosses her arms. "what do you mean? Father Ra, Uncles," she asked. "the body decays, but the spirit lives on. Yuki was never supposed to die. Because of her death, a chain of events will take place that might tip the scale of balance in the universe." Obelisk said, snapping his finger to show a video of Atem's face against Zorc alone and being sealed away in the puzzle. "Zorc will come back. I thought I destroy him." Mia said, shaking in fear. "no, my daughter. You only seal him for now. That is all we can do now. Without Yuki, you and Bakura don't have the power to stop him for good. Item can't stop him for good." Ra said, walking over to her and placing his hands on her shoulders. "that's why we have Yuki's body. we are trying to find a way to stop him for good." He said. Mia walked up to Yuki's body. she ran her finger down Yuki's cheek. Then a thought hit her. "before the party, Yuki mentioned a vision she had. Something about Atem with another woman, but the woman was not of our time. She is so powerful and loved by everyone, even by Atem and the shadow monsters." Mia said. The gods looked at each other. "let's see this vision, Mia, come here. I want to put her hand on Yuki's head at her temple. Think about the vision she told you about." Slifer said as he started to chant. Mia did as she was told and focused.
Suddenly there is a video of what Yuki saw. "her name is Yugi moto. She is from the year 2022. It looks like she is the one who solves the puzzle and frees Atem. I can sense her power even from here. She is of my blood. But she is very timid. She will need help." Slifer said, looking at his future daughter. "Send Yuki." Mia said as the gods looked at her in confusion. "Send Yuki's spirit to Yugi. That must have been why Yuki had the vision. Yugi is Yuki's blood sister. Hell, send Bakura and me as well when we die. We all will help Yugi." Mia said.
The Gods thought about this plan. "no one can know what we are about to." Slifer said. "he could find out and try to stop us." He added. Mia had her hands together at her lips. She couldn't believe what she was about to say. "Erase our memories. Everyone who ever met Yuki, make them forget. If Yugi is who Atem is supposed to be with, We must let things happen. No one must know. The only way to do that is by erasing our memories." She said with tears in her eyes. "if we erase your memories, there is no way of knowing if you and Bakura will get to Yugi when you die." Obelisk said.
"We will. I'll make sure portraits are made with our memories and recorded." She said. Ra, look at his daughter with pride and concern. "on one condition if we do this. Yuki will not be about to be reborn. You and Bakura will but not her. You two must promise after everything is said and done. You will live on with Yugi." He asked. "what do you mean?" she asked. "the one thing you and Bakura forgot to do was find your happiness. Find someone you love, and have a life. Make babies," Ra said with a smile. Beth Slifer and Obelisk agreed. "we want all three of you to be free." Slifer said. "go and get prepared and remember once we cast the spell, you will not remember Yuki. We will try to make it so that after Atem is sealed in the puzzle, you will be summoned to the palace as a guardian for the family who will watch over his tomb. We will help you ask much as possible without you knowing." Obelisk said. Mia started to walk out of the temple, looking at Yuki one last time. "I love you, Sister," she said as she mounted her horse and rode to the palace to preparations.
They came back to the museum. "I ask for our memories to be erased. I am the cause of all of this." Mia fell to the ground. "I caused Bakura to fall victim to Zorc's evil." She cried. "no, you are not, Mia," someone said. Everyone turns around to see Yuki standing there looking at them. "Lady Yuki." They all said. "things had to happen to balance the universe. Now you know everything." She said, walking up to Yugi. "the Gods sent to you to help, protect, and guide you. But in my weak state, there was only so much I could do. It wasn't until you kissed Atem and freed me I was able to recover. It was the same with Mia and Bakura." She said as two orbs of light entered the room. No one noticed Yugi had lowered her head. They turned into Lady Mia and lord Bakura from the past. "okay, this is getting wired." Joey said. "we are now able to help Yugi control her powers. When Zorc comes back and he will. She will be able to defeat and destroy him once and for all." Yuki said. "no," Yugi said. Everyone looked at her. "you are standing here saying I have this ultimate power. I don't want power. I didn't start this journey to get power. I started this journey to help Atem, Mia, and Bakura. Not to destroy great evil which should have seal away already. Can we just seal him away again?" She said, started to walk out of the room, stopping at the door.
"You would have to seal him away again and again. Zorc would never be destroyed, and he would only get stronger each time he was freed. Soon not even your powers would stop him. I know you are scared. It will be okay." Yuki said. "she is not scared. She is tired." Atem said. Yugi turned and looked at Atem. "Every since she solved the puzzle, it had been one bad guy after another. She has watched her friends get hurt, their souls are taken away, and they get to the top only to fall. Now you are asking her to fight again. To fight Zorc, who should have been taken care of over 5 thousand years ago. After watching everything, all of these memories, knowing what I now know. I wonder what was real and what wasn't. I remember another thing regarding my engagement with you. I didn't ask you. You ask me. Was it all a game you were playing just to get to Yugi?" atem said. "Atem I…" Yuki tried to say but couldn't get the words out. "the only thing I know is real is how I feel about Yugi. she has seen me at my worst. I lost her once. I made a promise. I will not lose her again, not without I was kicking and screaming." Atem walked over to Yugi, put an arm around her shoulders, and walked out of the room. Slowly one by one, everyone followed them out. Each one glared at them.
"Now what, Yuki?" lady Mia said. Yuki looked at her sister and brother. "I don't know. They are not wrong." She said. "did you not love him? you were playing a game." Lord Bakura asked with arise eyebrow. Yuki shook her head. "no, I did. I realize he wasn't meant to be mine. I wanted him happy. I want them both happy. Zorc is coming, and if Yugi doesn't learn to access and control her powers, everything we have done will be for not, everything they have done will be for not." She said. "we will have to wait and see." Bakura said as he turned back into an orb of light followed by Mia. "you coming?" she said. Yuki nodded, turned into a sphere of light, and followed her brother and sister.
