Mikasa yawned as she was stretching out. Sleep was pretty much the only escape from reality that the young girl could hope for. But if she really wanted to live, she couldn't just try to run away. She needed to fight. As long as she had Eren…

Suddenly, Mikasa noticed that the boy was nowhere near her. It was really weird. Usually, the girl would wake up way earlier than him.

Nevertheless, she decided to look for her adoptive brother. After a thorough search around the immediate area, she had concluded that he was nowhere to be found.

"Mikasa!"

The girl in question turned around to see her blonde friend approaching with two loaves of bread.

"Armin…"

"My grandpa got these for us" the boy exclaimed as he shared the food with her "here…"

"Have you seen Eren?" The dark-haired girl asked.

Armin looked at her weirdly. As if he had no clue on what she was talking about.

"Uhm…" he responded "who's Eren?"

Now it was Mikasa's turn to look at him weirdly. Had the guys decided to pull some kind of prank on her?

"It's not funny Armin" she exclaimed with a raised eyebrow "now, tell me where Eren is…"

"I have no idea who you are referring to" her friend replied in a confused manner "is Eren someone you met here?"

Mikasa looked at him with wide eyes. Armin wasn't the guy to push pranks this far, besides he sounded genuine.

"Did you forget your friend?" The girl asked with disbelief "the very person who taught you to stand up for yourself…?"

The blonde boy was looking at her with astonishment. Did he really not remember?

"I can't recall any of that" he said slowly "who he was exactly?"

Mikasa was starting to feel a little agitated.

"When my family was killed, he was the one who protected me… His father took me in… We were living like a family…"

"Mikasa" Armin exclaimed with confusion "I don't remember any of it…"

"You were the one to show him that book!" The dark-haired girl nearly yelled.

The look of shock on the blonde's face was apparent.

"I never showed it to anyone…" he whispered "the only person I even talked about it with was you…"

This couldn't be right. She remembered every single day, every small memory that she had made along with Eren. Yet now she was hearing that all of a sudden, Armin forgot all about it.

"I'm sorry…" the boy spoke dejectedly "if he's been lost, maybe you should tell the military policemen…"

This was beyond uneventful. Indeed, Mikasa needed to get help, but if she was supposed to turn to the authorities, it had to be someone she had trusted.

"I have to go…" she exclaimed before sprinting off into the direction of the garrison barracks.

He had to be there. Soldiers who were previously assigned to Shiganshina were being temporarily stationed here, in case of the titans attacking again. As she was running, she tried to recall where exactly were these barracks in which she was hoping to find the soldier that stuck around her family since forever.

"Mr. Hannes!" Mikasa yelled as she opened the door.

Several military men turned to look towards her with surprise.

"Excuse me, you are not allowed in here" one of them said as he approached the small girl.

"I need to speak with Mr. Hannes!" The young girl cried out.

"Listen, kid…" the man started.

Suddenly, her fellow soldier appeared behind him.

"Just knock it off! She's an orphan from Shiganshina who I happen to know" Hannes spoke with authority.

The man looked at him with a raised eyebrow and decided to drop it. Her fellow soldier turned to face the dark-haired girl.

"What is it, Mikasa" he asked.

"Eren is gone!" She exclaimed with worry.

The man widened his eyes in surprise.

"Eren?" He asked, "who is that Eren?"

The dark-haired girl felt her insides twist. Was she going crazy? Were all of those things just hallucinations created by her troubled mind?

"The very person whose family I lived with" she said slowly "the very person whose mother you failed to save…"

"I'm sorry, Mikasa" the soldier said, dejectedly "if only you've told me…"

"Armin told you!" The dark-haired girl pressed on "he came to you, to let you know about us!"

Hannes looked at her with confusion.

"Armin told me that you needed help, Mikasa" he explained "and so, I went to retrieve you. He never mentioned anyone else…"

'Not you too…'

"You're lying!" The girl cried out with tears in her eyes "someone took Eren and you're all on this!"

"I swear…" Hannes spoke, trying to get her to stop panicking "I have no idea what you're talking about…"

It was impossible. How could everyone just forget about Eren? She needed to take a different approach to this, if she wanted anything done.

"What about Doctor Yeager, his father?" She asked hopefully.

The man shook his head at that.

"I don't remember him either" he said "maybe I met him during that epidemic, but I just can't recall that name…"

Mikasa was starting to go into a state of panic. She began hyperventilating and her face went pale.

"Are you sure you're feeling alright?" Hannes asked her with concern.

She wasn't feeling alright. Not one bit. Someone took Eren away from her and made everyone who knew him forget all about him. How could this happen? She wasn't even sure that erasing memories was possible.

But above all else, Mikasa didn't know why someone would even take Eren away. Or maybe, was it Eren who disappeared out of his own will?

'No' she thought 'he would tell me... He would tell Armin…'

"Mikasa" she heard Hannes say, "are you with me?"

"Excuse me" the girl spoke as she turned around "I have to do something…"

The soldier looked at her with concern.

"Uhm, okay" he said "take care…"

Mikasa wouldn't sleep this night. Or the night after. All of the time she had, she would spend walking around, asking people from her home district if they knew about Eren or Doctor Yeager.

After two long days, she had only one conclusion.

The people of Shiganshina had their memories altered, so that no one could remember Eren.

Mikasa was sure that he's been kidnapped. But what could she even do about it?

"Fight! So, you will live! Fight!"

'I won't give up' she thought as she headed back to the camp 'I will keep on going and I will find you…'

Despite being extremely tired, her conviction was greater than ever.

"Just wait for me, Eren…"
