Engorgio:
"Psst...Remus!" James groaned as he heard Sirius's voice again. "Remus! It's getting closer!"
"Just flick it away Padfoot." James heard Moony's voice from across the room. "It's just a spider. It's not going to eat you."
"Moony it's huge! I can't sleep."
"Sirius, I'm not getting back out of bed. Either sleep with it or take care of it." Remus said sleepily.
James opened his eyes and saw Sirius lying stiffly in bed staring at a small dark spot on his sheets. "Sirius?" He whispered.
"What James?" Sirius whispered harshly.
"Do you want me to take care of it?"
Sirius blew out a sigh of relief. "I will love you forever Prongs."
James grinned as he pulled his wand off of his night stand, pointed it at the small dot and said, "Engorgio!"
Sirius screamed and scrambled out of bed. James erupted with laughter and was joined by Remus and Peter. A loud thump sounded as Sirius tripped over something and fell to the ground. He screamed again as he crawled across the floor until he reached a lamp and switched it on. James laughter increased when the lights revealed Sirius standing by the lamp in nothing but his underwear holding his transfiguration book over his head. "I. Hate. You. ALL." He yelled as we stepped closer to the wall away from the spider that was now on the floor by his bed. Through peels of laughter James managed to reduce the size of the spider and Peter crushed it with a shoe. Sirius marched over to James' bed, grabbed the blanket off of it, and threw the one from his bed to James. "I hate you." He said with a huff before burying himself back in bed. The three other boys chuckled themselves to sleep.
Unintentional:
Lily shot a death glare at the back of James Potter's head. Not ten seconds before he had walked past her to sit down and had brushed her cheek with his hand. Up until this point James generally kept his hands to himself. Lily fumed silently as she recalled his touch. Why couldn't he just leave her alone for one day? She saw Sirius, who was sitting next to James, turn back to look at her and smirk while Remus simultaneously shot her an apologetic glance from the desk behind him. Lily growled and looked down at her desk. She was seriously considering shooting a hex his way when the professor walked into the room. Next time.
She looked up again and saw James turn around to look at her before quickly turning away again. Her glare was slightly marred by a look of confusion when she saw how red his face was. Was he…. Blushing? James Potter didn't get embarrassed. What was that about? As the professor started talking, Lily shooed away any thoughts of James and started taking notes.
James could still feel the blush on his face as well as hear the chuckles still coming from Sirius. He kicked Sirius' foot. "Shut up Padfoot." Sirius just grinned at him again. James groaned and put his head in his hands. He hadn't even meant to bother Lily today! It had been a complete accident. He was minding his own business, walking up to his desk, when the sun shone through a cloud right onto Lily's face. Right when she smiled. It was just too beautiful not to touch. That's when his traitorous hand had actually reached forward and brushed her cheek.
He hadn't even registered what happened until she reached up and slapped his hand away. He'd been stunned. Sirius had pushed him forward to his desk, laughing the whole time at the expression of shock on James' face. James groaned again. Now Lily was mad at him once more. And he couldn't even feel proud about the negative attention seeing as it was accidentally earned. James' head was still down when Sirius reached over and whispered, "Look at the brightside James. You actually got to touch her face. You can hang on to that memory your whole life, seeing as that's as much as your gonna get." James' head shot up and glared at Sirius once more.
When class ended, Lily gathered her materials as quickly as possible and shot out of the classroom before James had the chance to attempt anything else.
The Secret Shipper:
Pulling her robe closer, Professor Minerva McGonagall stepped out of her room and headed down the hallway. Unable to sleep, she decided to check the hallways for any stray students causing mischief. As she approached the hallway her classroom was in, she heard faint whispering. Slowing her steps, she peeked her head around the corner. She shook her head as she made out three boys supporting a fourth boy on their shoulders while he stuck something to the wall.
"Does that look straight Padfoot?"
"I can't exactly see it James, with your stupid leg in the way!"
Minerva was about to announce her presence when she heard one of the boys say, "I'm sure Lily will love it James, now if you don't jump down in 1 second, I will drop you, I swear." The boy on their shoulders jumped down and the four boys grinned at the wall, then ran back towards their common room. Minerva straightened up and walked around the corner, bracing herself to see what sort of ridiculous thing was defiling the wall of their great school. Approaching the wall, a large piece of parchment fluttered to the ground. As she reached down to pick it up. Minerva's lips reluctantly stretched into a smile. There were two stick figures drawn, one a read headed girl, and the other a black haired boy with glasses. Over their heads were the words, "James and Lily forever" surrounded by lopsided little hearts.
Minerva had watched James Potter pour every ounce of energy over the past four years trying to get the, in his words "undying love and affection", of one Lily Evans. That paired with Evans stubbornness and derision towards Potter, created an equally frustrating and amusing situation for the professors. Frustrating because James frequently burst into Ms. Evans classrooms professing his love in loud words or poems. Entertaining, because despite their stupid antics, Minerva had a soft spot for that group of boys. Rambunctious as they were, they all had good hearts. That was made obvious by what they were willing to do for poor Remus Lupin. It was that part of her heart that made her cast an adhesive spell on the parchment and stick it back on the wall. Minerva's lips turned up once more as she decided to be by her classroom early in the morning to witness Ms. Evans walk by and see the poster.
Could Be Worse:
Lily Evans stomped into her room, threw herself on the bed, and let out a long puff of frustrated breath. How on earth was she supposed to study when in every class, around every corner, lurked James Potter, king of impropriety and distraction For the past six years he had been the one thing that no book in the library, no amount of advice from professors could have prepared her for. Who knew that in a school full of spells, ghosts, and wand wielding wizards, the hardest thing to deal with would be a boy with a crush? To deny that she felt flattered at all would be a lie, as any girl being pursued with such devotion would feel at least a small amount of butterflies. To deny that Lily was attracted to James would also be a lie, although she would rather die than reveal that piece of truth to any living soul. His stupid mop of hair. His stupid ready smile and bright eyes. His stupid jaw…
Lily sat up before she could think anything else. Sifting through her textbooks and parchment she put together what she needed for her meeting with Professor McGonagall and stomped back out with her head down. James could pop out anywhere, but the common room was the most likely. "Evans!" Lily muttered a curse under her breath and picked up her step, hoping to get out of yet another confrontation today. "Lovely Lily, could you maybe stop utilizing those deliciously long legs for but one moment." Lily halted, her face flushing with embarrassment and a tinge of anger.
"What James? What on earth do you have to say to me today that you haven't already said?" Her green eyes flashed with indignation, which was slightly dampened by her hair falling into her face. James grinned and reached up to brush it out of her face, earning a slap on the hand.
"I just wanted to see my good luck charm before the match later today." Regretfully, Lily noticed James wore his quidditch uniform. Even more regretfully she noted that he wore it well. Too well. Shaking her head at herself she stepped back with a glare.
"Well," she growled, "you've officially seen me at least 26 times today, which I would think sufficient. So excuse me please, while I try and live a part of today without being stained by the unpleasantness of your presence." With that she turned on her heel and hurried away.
"I do love watching you walk away Evans!" James called out with a laugh. Lily's face flushed further as she fought the urge to walk with a little more wag, just to rub it in.
As Lily Evans entered her office, Minerva had to hide a smile as she noted her flustered countenance that only accompanied seeing one particular overly zealous young man. "Miss Evans, please, sit down."
"Thank you professor. I appreciate you being willing to meet with me. I just feel so worried about the upcoming exams, and could use all the help I can get."
Minerva smiled kindly. "Miss Evans, I have every confidence in your ability to pass the exams without any problem. What exactly is worrying you in regards to this class?"
""Well professor, I do enjoy lectures, and I do all of the reading and extra work out of class. I just find myself with certain…. Unwelcome distractions that make it nearly impossible to get the most out of this course."
With a cough, Minerva asked, "Would you be referring to a group of boys, or one in particular Miss Evans?"
Lily blushed, looked down and mumbled, "Just one."
"And is it distracting because it is unwelcome, or…?"
Lily looked up in surprise. "I…. uh…. certainly it is unwelcome Professor. Anything that distracts from learning is unwelcome." Lily slouched in her chair and continued, "I mean, really, it's been going on for as long as I can remember and it is absolutely infuriating the way he just pops out of nowhere with no regard of what I'm doing, what I'm thinking, or even if I want him to. If he truly liked me you think that he'd take some regard for my education, wouldn't you think professor?"
Minerva tried to turn her growing smile into one of understanding rather than the amusement she was feeling. "Miss Evans, I think perhaps Potter is so intent on the goal, that he quite forgets to think about anything else. And, if I may say Lily, Potter wouldn't continue chasing if he didn't feel… oh how do I say it…. Encouraged somehow." Lily looked down once more, her face turning scarlet. "So my dear, I am more than willing to help you with any work you are struggling with. In regards to Potter, however, I'm afraid that's entirely in your hands."
Lily sighed and rubbed her forehead. "Thank you professor. Perhaps I could come visit you again tomorrow with specific questions about the course?"
Minerva nodded and watched Lily thoughtfully as she gathered her things back up and started heading out. In a split second decision, Minerva called out, "Miss Evans." Lily turned with an expectant look. "If I may give you a bit of personal advice, you could definitely do a lot worse than Potter." And with a wink, she shifted into her animagus form, and headed into her classroom.
Lily stood, frozen, as she replayed Professor McGonagall's words over and over. Did she really….. Was she telling her…. With a shake of her head, Lily headed back to the common room in a daze. As she walked in she saw James, Remus, Sirius, and Peter sitting by the fire laughing about something Sirius was saying. Lily stayed next to the wall, watching James, with a smile slowly spreading across her face. He did look rather wonderful in that uniform. Her head tilted slightly as she thought about his mop of hair that really was quite adorable. With that thought, she stiffened and wiped the smile off her face before moving purposefully towards the girls dormitory.
As James Potter was laughing at Sirius' story of his latest antics in Potion's class, he caught a glimpse of red hair in his peripherals. Careful not to turn his head, he snuck a glance at Lily Evans, standing next to the wall with a smile on her face, and her head tilted in the most adorable way. His grin grew when he realized she was looking at him. As he saw her shake the smile off her face and move towards the girls rooms, he stood, and hurriedly made his way towards her. "Hold up Evans, going without saying hello?"
Lily rolled her eyes and kept walking. James caught her by the arm and moved in between her and her escape. "Come on Lily dear. You can't even muster up a hello for a friend?"
Flushing, but determined, Lily looked up at James with anger apparent in her eyes. In an instant however, her lips curled into a vicious smile he had never seen before, making him fall a step back. He felt the color drain from his face as Lily stepped right up to him, lifted her head to his, and with her smiling lips closer to his than ever whispered, "Hello James". With that she pushed around him and headed up the stairs. James eyes stayed wide as he turned to his friends and took a deep breath. "Did you… did you blokes see that?"
As Lily closed the door behind her she dropped to the floor with a hand over her mouth trying to keep the smile on her face from spreading any further. Thinking of James' expression as she had stepped closer to him made a giggle fly out before she could stop it. Lily leaned her head back and let the giggles come. Two can play this game. And plus, professor was right. She could do much worse than James Potter.
The Wolves are Out:
James staggered into the common room and dropped heavily into the closest arm chair. Groaning he closed his eyes and tried to ignore the throbbing pain in his back. Remus was having a particularly bad night, and James had taken a nasty hit. With the quidditch game the next afternoon, Sirius had insisted James go back into the castle and attempt to get some sleep. Groaning once again as he tried to cross his legs, he gave up and let his head hang forward. Closing his eyes he tried to shut out the images of Moony shifting. Moony twisting in pain and turning into a werewolf. Tears of frustration welled up in his eyes. If only there was more he could do. The tears started to fall harder now and James couldn't find the strength to hold back the sob that escaped.
Lily couldn't sleep. She'd recently sent a letter to her sister, in hopes of breaking the silence that had lasted the better part of two years. Today, however, it came back unopened with the words I hate you scribbled in harsh, furious letters across the back. Lily took a shaky breath and decided that studying by the fire would be a better use of time than lying in bed, wallowing. Sliding out of bed, she gathered a few books and headed down to the common room.
As she got closer she paused when she heard what sounded like someone crying. Quietly stepping into the common room, she glanced around trying to locate the source of the cries. Her eyes widened when she saw James Potter slumped in an armchair near the entrance She froze, unsure of what to do. It wasn't too late to head back without being noticed. And surely he didn't want to be bothered. Yet… Hesitating only a second longer, she slowly started walking towards James. She stopped a few feet away from the chair he was in and tentatively whispered, "James?"
James' head whipped up at the sound of his name. Dread and embarrassment filled him as he saw Lily Evans standing just a few feet away, a look of uncertainty on her face. "James," she moved closer, "Um, are you okay?" James swiped his arm across his face and took a steadying breath.
"Ah, it's nothing Evans. Just divination. It finally hit me that there's no way to get out of it." He managed a shaky smile that he directed at her without making eye contact. Lily took another step forward and then slowly knelt at his feet. James covered his face with his hand so he wouldn't have to look at her. He was trying to come up with another excuse when Lily put her hand on his knee and he winced in pain. He dropped his hand from his face and moved away from Lily, the sense of dread building with every second. "Careful Evans. I've hurt my knees from praying so hard for a way out of that bloody class." He glanced at her face and frowned when he saw her look of horror. "What?" he said, rather sharply.
Lily reached her hand out again, towards his face. "James, you're bleeding. Why are you bleeding?" James stiffened and stood up abruptly, suppressing another groan. "Don't worry Evans. I'll just go to the baths and wash up. He turned back towards the entrance and started limping towards it.
Lily watched James limp towards the common room door, temporarily frozen. James had a black eye and a bleeding gash across his face. He was limping and he was obviously very sore. What had happened. The sound of the portrait swinging open moved her into action. "James!" She called and ran up to him. "Let me take you to Madame Pomfrey." She grabbed his arm but he jerked it away.
"I'm fine Evans. I can take care of myself."
"Who did this James?" Her eyes narrowed in suspicion, "Was it Severus? Honestly James please let me help. I should let Professor-"
"Just leave me alone Lily." James pushed past her again and continued down the hall.
"If you don't want help from me, at least let me go get Sirius or Remus or-"
"Lily!" James' shout reverberated through the hallway. "Stop. Just stop. Please just go back inside and leave me be. You can't ignore me every day of your life and then suddenly decide that you care! "
Lily's mouth dropped open in surprise. James turned on his heel and limped away from her. Lily slowly turned and walked back into the common room. She walked over to her books and dropped on the floor next to them, tears welling up in her eyes.
When James heard the portrait swing closed he collapsed to the ground and let out a frustrated growl. Tears started falling once again as what he'd just done hit him. Lily. He'd yelled at Lily. He bit back a yell of anger and buried his face in his arms. He heard footsteps and looked up to see Professor McGonagall walking towards him. She crouched down and put her arm around his shoulders. "James. Can you walk?"
James looked into her face and once more found himself unable to hold back the sobs. "Remus… he's so bad…. And Lily….. Lily…" The professor sat down next to James and rubbed his shoulder as he cried. When his sobbing subsided, Professor McGonagall guided him to his feet and helped him to the infirmary.
It was 3 o'clock in the morning when James got back to the common room. His body was still sore but Madame Pomfrey had given him enough potions to make the pain bearable. He was almost to the stairs leading to the boy's dormitories when he heard movement over by the fireplace. Looking over his shoulder he saw a glimpse of red hair hanging over the arm of a couch. Quietly approaching the back of the couch, James looked over it and saw Lily laying on the couch, staring into the fire. James walked around and stood in front of her. "Lily," he started but cut off when she looked up at him with reddened, puffy eyes.
Stiffly sitting down on the ground in front of her, he softly touched her hand. She didn't move away, but she moved her gaze back to the fire. "Lily, I'm so sorry. I feel awful. I know you were only trying to help. It's just been a horrid night and I can't tell you why, and I know that's not fair but-" he cut off abruptly as Lily turned her hand and intertwined her fingers with his.
"It's okay James." she said softly. She looked at him again, this time with a softer expression. "I know it's none of my business. And it's okay if you don't tell me. And really, after the horrid way I've treated you all these years, the last thing I deserve is an apology." She squeezed his hand and then let go, standing up. "I just wanted to make sure you got back safely. I am going to try and get some sleep though." Reaching out, she briefly touched the top of his head before walking away. James' followed her with his eyes up until she reached the staircase. There, she turned and smiled at him before disappearing out of sight. Sighing, James lay back on the floor and closed his eyes, trying to memorize the feel of Lily's hand in his.
Invitation:
James snuck another look at the red headed beauty walking next to him down the hall. As Head Boy and Girl, Lily and he were doing a hallway check for wandering students before heading to bed. After six years of pouring all of his efforts into gaining the attention of Lily Evans, it would figure that the year he decided to cool it off was the year they started becoming closer.
"James?" Lily startled him out of his thoughts, and he smiled shyly as he realized he'd been caught staring.
"Sorry Evans, your hair is just so entrancing in the candlelight." He winked and was relieved when she laughed rather than scoffing at him. Encouraged, he decided to push for further conversation. "How have your classes been going this year so far?"
"Pretty well, considering I have endured a huge decrease in distraction." She smiled teasingly at James, who began to rub the back of his neck and laugh nervously.
"Yeaahhh, sorry about that. I was a right bother for a bit there, wasn't I?"
"Oh yes, just a bit" Lily said, laughing at the red creeping up his face. "I won't lie to you James, I almost miss it. It's become part of my Hogwarts experience, and I don't quite feel fulfilled without it."
James had to concentrate to keep from grinning ear to ear at the admission. "Well then. I was going to be a gentleman this year, but as I have just received an invitation from Lily Evans to be a nuisance, I can't feel good about turning it down."
They had approached the entrance to the common room. Lily spoke the password, and as they walked in, she turned to James and said, "If you play your cards right this year Potter, you may just get another invitation from me." And with a wink she quickly walked up to her room.
James was rooted to the spot, with his mouth hanging open. Shaking his head to make sure he was still awake, he slowly sat down in a nearby chair to fully wrap his head around what he thought just happened. Hearing footsteps, he looked up to see a grinning Remus Lupin walking down the stairs towards him.
"Well then," Remus said sitting in a chair across from James, "It would seem a certain witch was in quite a good mood tonight."
James leaned forward and asked, "Did you hear that Moony? Did she just flirt with me, or am I completely and utterly mistaken?"
Remus chuckled and patted his friend on the knee. "Prongs. I didn't think I would ever say this. But I think that you, James Potter, actually may have the slightest chance of winning the affections of Lily Evans this year."
James fell back into his chair. "So I wasn't just imagining things?"
Remus laughed again, "Looks like you're going to have to start coming up with another plan, Prongs. You've got a Lady to catch."
Unwanted or wanted, that is the question:
Lily ran down the hallway at top speed then screeched to a halt when she saw James waiting by the Fat Lady painting. "James, I am so sorry!" He looked up at her and grinned as she approached.
"Well Evans, I would ask where you were but, if the lines on your face are any indication, I'm assuming you fell asleep in the library."
Lily touched her face and blushed, "I was hoping I escaped unscathed. Guess not." She went to pull her hair forward to cover her face, but James grabbed her arm, stopping her.
"Don't be embarrassed on my account Lils. I happen to love looking at your face no matter the state it's in." With a wink he grabbed her bag off her shoulder and turned towards the painting. "Why don't you sit out here and catch your breath. I'll put your bag inside and then we can head out on patrols."
Still blushing, Lily simply nodded as she slumped against the wall. James walked into the common room and Lily felt a smile start to spread across her face. After a long, hard day, a compliment, even from James Potter, was enough to start to turn it around. Her smile got wider as she thought about how much she liked how he'd called her Lils. Wait, what? She shook her head at that thought. She must be more tired than she thought. But the longer she stood there the harder it was to get the smile to stop growing.
James set Lily's bag down on a table off to the side of the common room and tried not to mentally congratulate himself for getting away with complimenting Lily Evans without being punished. Instead, he decided to congratulate himself on simply complimenting her rather than grabbing her and kissing her right on the spot. It was completely unfair for anyone to look that absolutely adorable with a bright red cheek and a book imprint on it accompanied by the cutest rumpled hair he'd ever seen. "She'd better fix her hair before I get back out there," he mumbled to himself, "or I'm gonna end up messing it up some more."
Lily stood up straight when James walked back out into the hall. He glanced at her and smirked. "You should probably straighten that hair up Evans, or someone is going to get the wrong idea." Lily put a hand to her hair and was mortified to find it completely wild. She started to pat it down, but then had a thought. With a slightly wicked gleam in her eye she sauntered over to him, reached up and ruffled his hair. "Now they'll be getting the right idea." And with a wink she started walking down the hall, her smile growing when she heard James exhale loudly before catching up to her.
Throughout their rounds, Lily found herself having a hard time looking away from Jame's rumpled hair. And his easy smile. She sighed and shook head. What was wrong with her? Where were these thoughts coming from? As they approached their common room at the end of patrol, Lily realized she was dragging her feet. She didn't want to go back in. James looked over at her and smiled as if he understood. "Not quite ready for tomorrow are we?"
Lily laughed nervously. "Yeah, um, that's it." She glanced up at him, cursing the blush that started crawling up her neck at the sight of his smiling eyes. "The end of the day is always hard, yeah?" James nodded his head and motioned Lily to proceed him into the common room. She tried to ignore the butterflies she felt when her shoulder brush his.
Snog Log
Lily squealed as she looked out the windows in the common room and saw snow. Running to the window she put her hands on the glass and watched the flakes slowly floating down from the sky. This. This was her favorite time of year. With a burst of excitement she spun around to grab her coat, and spun right into the arms of an unsuspecting James Potter.
"Oof" he exclaimed as she knocked him off balance. Grabbing her arms for balance, he exclaimed, "Golly Evans, you don't need to attack me to get my attention, you should know this by now."
Lily couldn't wipe the smile off her face, and began to bounce up and down, "It's snowing James! Have you seen it! It's snowing and I absolutely have to go outside! Come on!" And without a second thought, she grabbed James by the hand and flew out of the common room, dragging him down the hallway. Halfway to the entrance, she realized she was holding his hand, and stopped in her tracks, looking over at him with a blush, as she dropped his hand. "Um….. sorry about that. You actually don't have to come if you'd rather not." She giggled nervously and started slowly walking away.
"Not so fast Evans." James grabbed her hand again, and began pulling her towards the entrance. "You promised me further invitations this year, and I'm not letting you get out of them so fast." He winked and began towing her outside. Once past the doors, he continued to drag her away from the courtyard.
"James, we don't have to go so far outside, I only wanted to see the snow!" Lily protested as he continued well past the courtyard and in the direction of the lake. James slowed down, but still continued on course. Lily blushed as she realized they were still holding hands, but didn't make a move to pull away.
James didn't know where his mind had gone, but he was too far in to turn back now. Either this was going to be the best moment of his life, or another tick mark on his count of horrible disappointments. "Oh Evans, don't you know when the snow is coming down like this, the only worthy view is down by the lake?" He winked and smiled when she blushed rather than protesting. His smile grew when he realized that they were still holding hands, and she hadn't made a move to change that. Maybe this was going to be his lucky day.
Lily's mind was spinning by the time they reached the lake. Was this it? Was she going to finally tell James how she felt? Was he going to tell her that he was over it? That he just wanted to be friends? Was this going to end horribly? Was it worth it? The questions all faded away when James pulled her over to a log and sat her down, before sitting right next to her, hands still entwined. He looked at her with sparkingling eyes and said, "So, was I right?"
Lily looked out over the lake, and a slow smile came to her face as the increasingly heavier snowfall fell around them and onto the glistening lake. "It's so beautiful" she whispered. Her smile grew even more at the view and then froze when she realized that James was rubbing the back of her hand with his thumb. Nervously, she turned to look at him.
Throwing caution to the wind, James decided to take advantage of Lily's distraction and start rubbing her hand with his thumb. He felt her freeze, and then look over at him. Nervously, he looked into her face, expecting derision, and being completely surprised at the slight smile and deep blush he found instead. Further encouraged he pulled on her hand, inching closer to her. "You're right Evans. It is quite beautiful." Lily's blushed deepened and cleared her throat as she turned back to looking at the lake, yet still made no move to remove her hand.
With caution already off in the wind somewhere, James blurted out, "Do I have a chance Lily? An honest chance?" Lily looked at him with surprise, her mouth slowly dropping open and James plowed forward. "I know I've been a complete idiot the entirety of the time you've known me, and I know that you're probably absolutely sick to death of me, but I feel like maybe now we're friends, and I feel like maybe you like me a little more. Not like, that you like like me, but that you're not wanting to curse me all the time, and you don't have to like me more than a friend at all right now, I just need to know if there's any way, any way at all, that I have a chance with you. As, you know, more than a-a friend." He ended with a cough and dropped his gaze, not quite able to look her in the eyes.
Lily was frozen as James opened his mouth and began to speak. When he finished he dropped his eyes and wouldn't look at her. It was in this moment, that Lily made up her mind, for better, or for worse. "James." She said softly. He slowly looked up and before she could change her mind, Lily launched towards him and kissed him right on the back quickly, she put her hands to her face and exhaled shakily as James looked at her in complete shock and silence. "Oh dear. I'm so sorry," she nervously giggled, "I really shouldn't have done that. Did I hurt you? Oh no…. I'm so sorry James, I really didn't mean to-"
Before she could continue James grabbed her face and pulled her back towards him, kissing her much more gently on the mouth. Pulling back slightly, he looked down at her closed eyes and surprised mouth and absolutely could not resist kissing her again. Their lips met, and this time, they were both ready. James moved his hands down from Lily's face to the back of her head, and then moved one to her waist, pulling her closer to him. Lily grabbed his shoulders and shivered as their kiss went on, and on.
James couldn't help but deepen their kiss when Lily grabbed his shoulders. He'd been waiting and waiting for this moment. Over six years he had waited to kiss Lily Evans, and he was going to pour every moment of wanting into this moment. After what seemed like an eternity of bliss, they broke apart, breathing heavily. James placed his forehead on Lily's and closed his eyes. "Please tell me this is real, Lily. Please tell me I didn't get a fever from being outside so long and imagine all of this." He heard Lily inhale sharply and pulled back to look at her.
Lily looked into James' eyes for a moment, and then allowed a smile to spread across her face. "James Potter, I can't answer that question. Because there is no way on this green earth, that a kiss like that was real."
James' mouth dropped, but before he could reply, Lily launched at him again, knocking them both off of the log, and kissing him until neither of them could breathe.
