In his office at the top of the Senate Tower, Chancellor Palpatine heard the Force scream and suddenly grow colder, even for him. He made a small noise of recognition when it became clear what had changed. It was too bad that he would not have his apprentice, but it didn't matter. He would have what he wanted and there was no one left who could stop him. Darth Sidious smiled as he went back to work, the repercussions of this would be glorious.

Ahsoka did not know that the Force could scream. She had always felt the Force like a warm light, gently guiding her to where she needed to be. But this was like nothing she had ever experienced before. This was a scream borne from pain. This was the worst pain she had ever felt from someone else, and it had taken her a moment to realise the pain was coming from the Force itself and not from another person. It had washed over her so quickly and so forcefully she had fallen to her knees, and she was not the only one. Others around her, seemingly average citizens, had fallen or stumbled or were doubled over holding their heads. Then she felt it, the snapping of a bond a sudden deep cold where there had been a light so bright it could burn a moment before. That was when she lost all semblance of composure and she screamed along with the Force.

In her apartment Padmé had been preparing dinner, humming to herself as she did so. She missed her husband dearly, it had been many months since she last saw him in person and she longed to hold him again, kiss him again, just be with him again, and most importantly tell him about their baby. He'd been gone so long that she was in her third trimester, but it wouldn't be long now, he had called her only a week ago to say that they were finishing up and would soon be back on Coruscant. So Padmé was not expecting it when she felt a tugging in her chest, followed by what felt like the snap of a cord, which was followed by a scream, that surprised her to realise it was not only her own. She clutched her chest as if to pull back what had been torn away from her, feeling a pinprick of light and warmth surround her before it faded and was replaced with intense coldness.

In the council chambers, the Jedi Council were in session, or at least the members who could attend were in session. Jedi Master Yoda, the Grand Master of the entire Jedi Order had stopped mid-sentence and put a hand to his head, then his cane toppled to the ground and the Force screamed. The other Jedi Masters of the council reeled then too, the wave of grief and pain from the Force washing over them. Jedi Master Mace Windu felt a wave of light wash over him for the briefest moment and for just as brief a moment the Force was unclouded and he saw what, no, who was clouding the Force, who was at the bottom of this. Then the Force went dark.

Rex saw him go down, as did his brothers. They saw him throw himself in the path of a blow meant for General Kenobi. General Kenobi stood frozen staring at where General Skywalker had fallen. Rex jumped into action, calling immediately for medevac, and running to the General's side. He pulled off his helmet and knelt beside his general pleading for him to stay with them. He had gone down before and always gotten back up. He'd get back up again, he had to, he was General Skywalker he was invincible. No damn blast from a Seppie tank was going to bring him down. It couldn't. Anakin's eyes were unfocused and the light seemed to slowly seep out of them, as he slowly fell away from them. Rex pleaded with him again, there were people waiting on him he had to stay with them. Rex's pleas did not work and the General fell into unconsiousness. Rex bowed his head and allowed himself a moment to cry. Then he gathered his resolve and looked around at the men, they'd lost their momentum. He looked over at General Kenobi still frozen in place. With tears still rolling down his cheeks, Rex called for a retreat.

It was meant for him. The blow was meant for him. But it did not reach him. Because his former Padawan; his brilliant, fantastic, brave, incredible, ridiculously stupid former Padawan had thrown himself in the path of it. The warning in the Force had come too late for Obi-Wan, he wouldn't have had enough time to move out of the way. The warning had apparently come to Anakin a few moments earlier, not by enough that he could have gotten Obi-Wan out of the way, but enough that he could put himself in the way. Obi-Wan saw him fall but he couldn't move. He saw Rex call for a medic and rush to Anakin's side, he still couldn't move. He saw the captain evaluate their chances at pulling through now that they'd lost their momentum, he heard Rex call for a retreat, but he still couldn't move. It was only when they'd gotten Anakin onto a stretcher and began the retreat that Obi-Wan finally moved. He jumped into action, covering their retreat as best he could. He was the last one onto the final evac ship. Presumably, they'd taken Anakin on the first one but Obi-Wan looked for him anyway. As Rex approached him on the Resolute Obi-Wan felt it. The tug in his heart, the snap of a bond, and intense darkness so incredibly cold replaced the burning brightness that had been there a moment before. The Force screamed and Obi-Wan wept with the 501st.

The Force screamed at the death of its child. A scream so intense even those who were not sensitive to the Force could feel that something was off. The wave of pain from the Force so intense it brought those who were sensitive to the Force to their knees. The galaxy reeled when Anakin Skywalker died. Everything went still when Anakin Skywalker died. The Force cried out when Anakin Skywalker died. Then it went dark.
