It was a cool November morning as William left for work, as Julia cleared the breakfast dishes, and being happy not only she is 7 months pregnant and the baby is happy and healthy, but got a day off as well.
At breakfast, they discussed preparing the nursery, setting up the crib and wondered if they were having a boy or girl. William assured her, "I don't care, as long as the baby is happy, healthy and perfect…and looks like you" which made her giggle, but she knew he wanted a little girl…which she wanted too.
As she finished the dishes, she grabbed the newspaper and looks to see if there was anything interesting in the medical world.
Finishing her tea, as she sees an article about a Dr. Clark, who successfully created a miracle fertility drug, "I wonder if this is Miss Clark?" Julia asks herself, "one way to find out" she said as she folded the paper up, put it in her purse and grabbed her coat and headed out the door.
A few minutes later, she arrived at Miss Clark's lab and knocked on the door, "come in" she heard and opened the door, "Miss Clark"
Clark looked up from her desk, "Dr. Ogden…Julia. How pleasant to see you"
"Likewise. Been too long"
"Yes. Do you need anything?"
Julia opens her purse and pulled out the news article, "I saw this article in the paper and wondered if this was you?"
Miss Clark removes her glasses and approaches her, and takes the paper from her, "indeed it is, but many male doctors have come to see me and ask how I created the miracle drug"
"But when they see you're a female doctor, they leave?" Julia asked
Miss Clark nodded and put her glasses back on, "yes, and want to take credit for the drug, but I always refuse them."
"I see. But has your drug been successful since me?"
"Yes, 3 women who struggled for years to get pregnant came to me for help and succeeded. They all had healthy pregnancies and all the babies were girls."
"Miss Clark, how long does the drug stay in the body?"
She clears her throat, "well, it depends on how much of the drug the female takes to become pregnant. Why do you ask?"
Julia removes her purse and unbuttons her jacket and shows off her bump from the side, as Miss Clark's goes in shock, "you're with child?"
"Yes, 7 months"
"But…I tho…I thought you were barren and needed the drug to help get you pregnant?"
"I thought so too, but William and I conceived naturally…without even trying"
Miss Clark goes to her desk and writes something down on her notebook, "with no drugs, you said?"
"No drugs"
"When was the last time you took the drug?"
Julia begins to think, "oh my, uh, maybe 3 summers ago"
"Mmm…so you weren't taking any drugs and weren't trying and the baby was conceived naturally?" she continues writing down in her notebook
"Yes"
"Well, I have no explanation, Julia from what you told me back years ago…you had an abortion which left you barren. But now you're with child"
Julia nods with a smile, "call it a miracle"
Miss Clark, clears her throat, "well forgive me, what I don't believe in miracles, I believe in science."
"I understand. I used to believe in the same thing"
Miss Clark walks around the room pondering, "but Miss Clark, I am not just here to tell you, I am with child, but also to help you."
She looks at her, "help me with what?"
"Well, I now work at the new women's clinic and nearly every day women come to me asking for help, to get pregnant. But we don't have the drug you have, so I was wondering if you would like to come work at the clinic and we can help you patent your drug, So, what do you say?"
"Are there male doctors at this clinic?"
Julia shakes her head, "no male at all."
"I would need a lab"
"We got one and you will have your know space. So, we got a deal?" Julia hands her hand out
Miss Clark, shakes her hand back, "we got a deal"
