Today's theme is Jock Jaune and Nerd Yang, enjoy.
To say Jaune was confused would be an understatement. As his eyes switched from his lovely girlfriend trying to explain things to him, and the sheet of paper in his hands he couldn't help but feel completely lost. That wasn't to say he wasn't listening to Yang, but when she went into enthusiastic ramblings like this it all tended to simply go over his head. It didn't help that the beautiful twinkle in her glasses covered eyes, and the pretty smile she had on her face that showed off her shiny white teeth and silvery braces was distracting him. He was entirely blameless, she was just so cute when she got like this.
He made a promise though, and an Arc never goes back on their word. He needed to make the effort to understand this game. After all she learned all there is to know about football for him, and he knows how much she doesn't like sports. If she could do that for him, then he could do this for her, especially since this was their six month anniversary. She even wore that dumb shirt with the things on them that he was told were called D-20 dice over her chest that he got for her as a joke gift on April Fool's. Probably helped that she actually ended up loving it.
Eventually though he was snapped out of his thoughts quite literally as Yang snapped her fingers in front of his face, telling him to stop staring at her D-20s like some sort of neanderthal. He apologized and asked her to repeat what she said because he kind of spaced out for a bit there. Yang just pouted at him, and then looked down at the sheets covering the table dejectedly. She looked back up at him with the most painfully disappointed look he had ever seen her wear and it tore into his chest making him feel incredibly guilty for not paying attention. Yang just let out a sigh before just saying this was dumb, and that they could just watch a movie or something instead because he clearly wasn't into it.
Jaune wouldn't let it end like this though, he didn't want to sour this day, so he did the only thing he could think to do. He pulled his wonderfully nerdy girlfriend into a kiss. After a moment he pulled back, holding a hand against her cheek. He reassured her that he was interested. He was simply having a hard time truly understanding and absorbing all of this and that he was more than willing to give this a shot if she could try explaining it to him again, but maybe dumb it down a bit so it could get through his thick skull. Yang blushed and gave a soft smile before nodding and taking a deep breath to resettle herself and figure out how to get through to him this time without accidentally going into a nerdy rant about lore and stats that he probably didn't need to know at this stage.
It was smooth sailing from there on. Yang was able to realize that comparing things to football stats was a much easier way to get through to him. She wasn't sure why she hadn't figured out such an obvious tactic sooner. Eventually he was able to create his character, and she was able to start his solo adventure. Surprisingly he didn't choose to create a barbarian, a paladin, or even a fighter. Instead he chose a sorcerer, because "Magic is fucking kick ass." His exact words. Really the only thing that tripped him up was actually creating the character, because he took to the roleplay aspect like a fish to water. She could tell he was having a genuinely good time. He had the same goofball smile that graced his face whenever talking about one of his favorite sports teams. It went better than Yang could have possibly hoped for, though there was a comment he made about how this wasn't so much different from their "nighttime games". That brought an intense blush to her face that only went away after she made his character trip into a surprisingly deep puddle.
Eventually though she got Jaune to his first combat encounter and she was finally able to say the words she'd been anticipating all day, giving Jaune her widest and most braces baring grin.
"Roll for initiative big boy."
