It started a week ago, when I saw the bison flying over the mountains towards our camp. I knew it belonged to the Avatar as he had been here not but 24 hours ago to pick my son Sokka up saying that my daughter Katara was in danger.
But…… Something was wrong, when the Bison landed my son Sokka got off and ran over to hug me and started ranting about how the War is over and that there is no hope left and a bunch of other things I can't remember. Because my gaze soon fell on the reason he said that
Katara was getting down off the Bison with the, what seemed like the lifeless body of the young Avatar, she seemed devastated, and why shouldn't she…. The war was all but lost
With the Avatar dead
But the coming weeks would tell me that wasn't the real reason she was like this, but for now I just couldn't infer what could be worse then the Avatars death in her mind.
But now was not the time for reunions, the Avatar or Aang as Sokka had told me earlier, needed help. So I had our warriors take him to his own separate tent so my daughter could work on him, but as we are starting to enter the tent with her she lashed out.
"LEAVE ME ALONE WITH HIM!" I could only stare and wonder why she acted that way, and why the rest of the Avatar's group just seemed to act like it was a normal occurrence.
And that is when I realized something major "Spirits…. I have missed so much" I said talking to my son
"Like you wouldn't believe" Sokka responds as he starts to tell the story the group's journey throughout the world and what had just transpired in Ba Sing Se
"My God…… The War Is Over" is all I can muster while a sad expression washes over my face "after all these years of trying to make sure Kya's death was avenged……… it's all in vain"
"No dad, Katara will heal Aang, and soon we will win this war, I know it" Sokka says with a renewed sense of purpose at the mention of Kya
"Aang will return and when he does, the Fire Nation will know suffering as we do" he says with rage building in his eyes
"So son, what's the plan?" I ask
"We will invade the Fire Nation, on the day of a Solar Eclipse. It was the whole reason we went to Ba Sing Se, to gain the Earth Kings support, but now it will just be a smaller invasion"
"But how are you so sure The Avata-"
"His Name Is AANG" my son interrupts in a bitter tone. Apparently my daughter isn't the only one who this boy as had a major impact on
"Sorry, how are you so sure that Aang is going to make it?" I ask curiously
"Because Katara can't loose him" he responded somberly while looking towards the closed tent flap with my daughter and the Avatar in side.
"None of us can"
A long tense silence fills the air for what feels like hours until I finally break the tension with a half hearted attempt to lighten the mood, "meet any girls on your adventure?"
"Yeah….. a couple, there was Yue but she's gone…… and oh spirits I don't even want to think about what happened to Sukki" Sokka says as tears fill his eyes
Crap, that was definitely not the thing to ask, come on Hakoda think of something "That's rough son……. I'm so sorry I asked…… Um what about your sister?" I ask trying to redirect.
"Yeah I mean she used to have a crush on this jerk named Jet, but uhh don't even get me started on him, but now?…….. Umm nah, not really" Sokka responded glancing towards the tent currently occupied by Katara and Aang
He clearly isn't telling me everything, but honestly I lack the mental capacity to deal with really anything right now so I decide to call it a night "It's late son, we should all get some sleep before we decide where to go from here" I say
"Ok dad, I'll talk to you tomorrow, good night" Sokka says as I walk towards my tent. Yeah he isn't telling me everything about Katara but that's just something I might deal with tomorrow
