Hello guys! These are my contributions for Digiweek 2022 happening on Tumblr. Each one shot will be centered around one (or two) of the Chosen Children. The stories aren't related to each other. I hope you enjoy! Reviews are appreciated.

Day 1 - First Day: Shougaku

Taichi woke up early that Monday morning. His usual routine every week morning consisted of taking a shower, having breakfast and getting ready to go to work. But it was going to change a little from that day on. He groaned and touched the lower of his back with his hand before he rolled in bed. He was so nervous he couldn't exactly sleep and he felt like he was run over by a train or something. The reason behind it was because Takato - his six-year old son - was going to start Elementary School that day.
"You couldn't sleep either, huh?" Akiko spoke beside him and they exchanged glances.
"No, I'm really anxious and nervous." He confessed. "It seems like yesterday when he was born and now he's already seven."
"Tell me about it. Time went by so fast."
"Yeah." Taichi sighed and stretched his arms above his head. "Well, I should go wake him up or he'll be late for his first day."
He leaned towards Akiko and kissed her before getting up and going to their son's bedroom.

As Taichi walked down the hall, he could hear some noises coming from Takato's bedroom. He thought it was Agumon snoring loudly again and wondered how his son managed to sleep so heavily and peacefully with his partner making such loud noises at night. But then again, he had to confess he wasn't that different when he was Takato's age. Becoming a father brought a much lighter slumber along. Taichi gently and carefully twisted the doorknob open and barely managed to control his smile at the sight he saw inside the child's bedroom.
"Looks like someone is already up and full of energy."
"I'm going to school today!" Takato jumped on his bed excitedly, with Koromon on his left.
"That's definitely something you inherited from your mother."
"I heard that!" Akiko yelled from their bedroom. "Is he jumping on his bed again?"
"That's right."
"He got that from you, not me. Your mother told me you used to jump on your bed whenever summer vacation started, and Hikari confirmed it."
"Whatever." Taichi laughed and then turned to his son again. "Come on, little boy. Time to get ready for school."
"Yes!" Takato jumped a couple more times and then threw himself towards his father's arms.
"Come on, buddy." Taichi shook Agumon up to wake him. "It's time to get up."
"What?" The Digimon slowly opened his eyes and yawned.
"We need to go to work. I'm surprised you didn't wake up with all this noise."
"What noise?"
"Nevermind." The man laughed again and stood up. "Breakfast will be ready in a couple of minutes. Hurry up or you won't get to eat anything."
"What?!" Agumon ran towards the kitchen and sat down on a chair, ready for breakfast.
"You can't say he isn't your partner. He's just like you."
"I suppose you can say that."
"Well, I better get the breakfast done."
"Do you need any help?"
"No, you need to get ready for work. Besides, we got most of Takato's obentou ready last night, so it shouldn't be a lot of trouble."

"Koromon, what do you want for breakfast?" Takato placed his partner on the chair besides his and then sat down.
"He gets special food now?" Akiko asked as she put a plate with some toasts and fried egg in front of her son, along with a glass of grape juice.
"He's having what I'm having."
"He can't eat fat, sweetheart. It's bad for his health."
"Agumon used to get junk food from dad and nothing happened to him."
"Your father didn't have anyone to guide him through this, you do."
"An egg won't hurt, Akiko." Taichi walked into the kitchen while he finished fixing his dark blue tie.
"Fine. But just one." She bit her lower lip and shot her husband a death glare.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"I know you." He followed her back to their bedroom after she walked past him.
"You were supposed to back me up in this." She tried to keep her voice as low as possible for Takato not to hear them. "Not be on his side."
"It's just an egg, Akiko. It's not like Koromon will die because of it."
"That's not it, but okay."
"Then what is it?"
"Let's just let it go, alright? Or we'll be late for work and to take Takato to school."
"Alright then. We can talk about it later."

.

Takato kept on singing and being all excited throughout the way to school. Akiko was unsure whether she laughed at it or thought it was a little too much, but she still found it quite amusing.
"Here we are." She announced when she parked the car near the Odaiba Elementary School.
Taichi went to open the back door, but Takato was faster and already out of the car. Koromon was jumping happily beside him.
"I wish I was able to take Agumon to school when I was a student. It sucked having to hide them all around it in case we had an emergency and needed them."
"Taichi, don't say bad words in front of our son."
"What? What did I… oh."
"Exactly."
"Alright." Taichi knelt down in front of his son. "This is it, buddy. In a few seconds, you'll be having your first class in Elementary School."
"Yes, can I go now?"
"Sweetheart, we are trying to say goodbye to you."
"I know, but I heard some kids playing soccer and I want to join them."
"Oh God."
Taichi couldn't help but laugh at his son's spontaneous mood. "Okay, you can go."
"Mom is going to pick you up at 4:30pm because dad has to work late today."
"Okay." He hugged both his parents and then ran towards the school gate, disappearing right away.
Akiko was unable to hold her smile when she heard some sobbing coming from beside her. "Are you crying?"
"No." Taichi wiped the tears from his eyes. "I got something in my eye."
"Of course you did."
"Let's just go, okay?"
'Okay, I'll drop you off at work."

Taichi tapped on the door in the rhythm of a song playing in his hand during his way to the embassy.
"What is it?" Akiko looked at him very briefly and immediately turned her attention back to the traffic.
"Nothing."
"Taichi, you only tap this rhythmically when you want to say something and isn't sure if you should bring it up."
"I was thinking we could have another child."
"What?!" She was thankful they were stopped at the red lights. "You want to have another child?"
"Yes, he could keep some company to Takato, don't you think?"
"I don't know. There will be a big age gap between them. Sometimes it can be worse than more helpful."
"You think they wouldn't get along?"
"It's the opposite, actually. Takato gets along with everyone. But don't you think this big age gap is a little too much for them?"
"Maybe. But I've always wanted to have more than one child, probably because I grew up with a sister."
"You've wanted more than one child?" Akiko was surprised. "How come you never told me about this?"
"I don't know. I guess because you never mentioned the desire of having another baby. I just assumed you didn't another one."
"I didn't really think about it, to be honest. But can we talk about it later tonight?"
"Yes, of course. Does that mean you're open to the idea?"
"We'll talk about it later, alright? This is an important conversation and I really don't want to have it right here right now."
"Alright. Tonight then." Taichi leaned over and kissed her bye before turning to the door. "Have a good day."
"You too. I love you."
"I love you too." He turned to her again and kissed her one more time before actually leaving with Agumon.

.

It was around eight at night when Taichi finally walked into his building. He entered the elevator and leaned against its wall when the door finally closed and shut his eyes. He was feeling exhausted, but tried his very best to push it aside for Takato. He knew his son would want to play with him, no matter how tired he would be from school. He spent the whole day wondering how his son's first day was and even resisted the urge of calling Akiko through a video to know about it. The elevator arrived at the ninth floor before he expected and Taichi forced himself to get out of it.

Takato didn't even get his father a chance to put his bag in a chair and jumped into his arms, wrapping his arms around Taichi's neck. The man was fast on holding him still and keeping him up.
"Daddy!"
"Hey kiddo. How was your first day?"
"It was so cool!" The child replied happily as his father put him down. "I had so much fun."
"I'm happy to hear that. Did you make any friends?"
"Pretty much with everyone." Akiko placed two plates and a cartoon themed plastic one for Takato on the table.
"That's not surprising at all." Taichi laughed.
"Exactly, considering he's just like you."
"Am I sensing some jealousy coming from you?"
"No." She rolled her eyes with fake annoyance and smiled. "I had to carry him for nine months for him to be your perfect replica. It's not fair at all, if you ask me."
"I think it's completely fair. But you know, this could be changed."
"How can it be changed? Oh that's right, we need to talk about that."
"We do. So, Takato, what else did you do on your first day?"
"We had lunch together and played soccer in our last class."
"That sounds like fun. Did you score any goals?"
"Two. And there was this boy who was upset because his team lost."
"Really? And what did you do?"
"I told him next time he can play on my team because I always win."
"I remember you saying the exact same thing to him when he was a couple of years younger."
"Funny, I don't remember any of it." Taichi played with Akiko.
"Of course not. You only remember when it's convenient for you." She teased back.
"I have no idea what you're talking about. Son, did you get to see aunt Hikari?"
"She went to see me on my lunch break. She's teaching another group, but I wish she was my teacher."
"Yeah, they avoid putting family members in the same class. But you can still see her everyday."
"That's right." Akiko nodded with a smile. "Dinner is ready."

"So, Takato, mom and dad have something to ask you."
"Taichi, shouldn't we wait until we discuss this alone?"
"We'll just ask for his opinion."
"Okay." She was still a little unsure, but went for it anyway.
"What do you think of having a brother or sister?"
"What?" Takato was completely surprised with that question. "I'm having one?"
"No, sweetheart." Akiko replied, grabbing his hands. "This is something that came up today and we want to know how you feel about it."
"I would love to have one!" The child was beyond thrilled. "We can play soccer together."
"So you really don't mind being a lot older if you end up being an older brother?"
"No, it will be so much fun to have a younger brother."
"What if it's a girl?"
"I don't want a girl, I want a boy."
"Having a sister is cool too. I had a lot of fun growing up with Hikari."
"Aunt Hikari is nice, girls aren't."
"But Takato, we can't choose whether it's going to be a boy or a girl."
"We can't?"
"No, we don't have power over these things."
"So am I getting a brother or sister?"
"Well, dad and I still have to talk about it further, but I'd say there's a high chance."
"Yay! I'm finally getting a younger brother!"

At about 9:30pm, Taichi came across his sleepy son lying on the couch. He grabbed Takato very carefully not to wake him up and took him to his bedroom.
"Daddy." The child spoke still asleep as soon as Taichi put him on his bed.
"Yes?"
"Can you tell me a story?"
"Of course." The man smiled and sat on the edge of Takato's bed, after grabbing a bed stories book from the shelf. "Do you want to choose one tonight?"
"No, I want to hear a story about you and aunt Hikari as children."
"Let me see." Taichi thought of one for some seconds. "Okay, I got one. There was this time when I was at the hospital and…"
"Were you sick?" Takato asked him with curiosity.
"No, it's actually a good story." He replied, hoping this somehow could show his son having a sister was cool too. "I was three years old and my father took me there. I had no idea what was going on. Then we walked into a room and a saw my mother lying on a bed. I immediately began to cry thinking she was going to die or something, though she seemed perfectly fine. And then I saw her. Wrapped in a white blanket, very tiny."
"Aunt Hikari?"
"That's right." Taichi smiled as he relived that moment in his mind. It had been almost forty years, but he still remembered it quite well. "She looked at me and gave me the sweetest and brightest smile I've ever seen in my life. It was like she knew who I was already."
"That's a very sweet memory." Akiko spoke from the door and both boys looked at her. She approached them. "I don't think you've ever told me that."
"I didn't? Well, now you know."
"Keep going."
"And somehow I knew that little girl would be one of the most important people in my life. I couldn't have asked for a better sister. Hikari was a perfect partner for many things I wanted to do, but she could never bring herself to do one on her own. She was always afraid of getting caught."
"See, Takato, having a sister can be good too."
"Your mother is right. Hikari played soccer a lot of me when we were kids. Not only boys can do it. Just see how it is with Aiko and Kouji. They are always running around and don't care about gender. They just want to have fun."
"Aiko is cool."
"Yes, she is. You want to know something? Mommy used to give grandma a lot of work when she was a child."
"Really?" Both Taichi and Takato said at the same time, visibly curious about it.
"Yeah. There was this one time where I broke a neighbor's doll because she wouldn't let me hold it."
"You broke your neighbor's doll?"
"I'm not proud of it though. My parents made me apologize to her and they bought a new one for her."
"I can't believe you never told me that."
"Well, I guess we both learned something from each other tonight, huh?"
"You have a point." Taichi turned to their son. "Alright, little boy. Time to sleep. You have school tomorrow."
"Okay."
"Good night." Taichi kissed his son on the forehead and covered him with a sheet before heading to the door.
He waited until Akiko did the same and turned off the lights of the bedroom, closing the door behind them.
"So you were a naughty child, huh?" He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her neck as she nodded affirmatively.
"A little bit."
"I was wondering if you'd like to be again tonight."
"Maybe I do." She laughed as they rushed into their bedroom.
