Prologue

Chuck Bullard stood in front of the chainlink gate, lazily gripping the M4 in his hand. He was on guard duty, protecting vital supplies for the Army. Except this wasn't a major base or some big armory. It was a small supply storage in the middle of the swamp in Alabama. Chuck wasn't even sure what the supplies were, just that they were vital to the war effort.

Chuck wiped his forehead and let out a bored sigh. He had been standing out here for hours already, and he was going to die from boredom. Normally he would just spend his time playing Girls Frontline on his phone but his phone wasn't working today and his C.O. had gotten on his ass about professionalism and situational readiness.

The sound of a large diesel engine snapped Chuck out of his stupor and he gripped the M4 a little tighter. He wasn't told of a delivery today. A large old school supply truck came around the bend and into view. Something seemed off about it but Chuck chalked that up to boredom. It came to a stop a few yards from the gate and Chuck walked up to the drivers side door and motioned for them to roll the window down. The driver obliged and Chuck looked up at him. "What's your business today?"

"I have a delivery for a Captain Fairchild." The driver handed Chuck a delivery slip and Chuck looked it over. It seemed legit but something still felt off. The driver noticed Chuck's hesitation and offered an explanation. "Oh, I forgot something…"

Chuck looked up to see the barrel of a shotgun aimed at his head and before he could react the driver pulled the trigger. The buckshot did it's job and turned Chuck's head into a gory, mushy pile of flesh, blood and bone. It was over that quickly.

Chuck couldn't feel anything but he knew that he was dead. He had to be. The question was what happens now? He had always wondered what happens after you die. Was it paradise or nothing?

"Don't worry, my child. I have a plan for you." A soft voice spoke to Chuck, and Chuck felt himself relaxing. Chuck tried to look around but he couldn't see anything, and he couldn't move. "You will have a chance to be the hero you always wanted to be, Chuck."

"What do you mean?" Chuck was confused but that was to be expected. Chuck tried to move again and he it started to work. He could feel his muscles move but he still couldn't see.

"Commander, it is time to get up." The voice was familiar but Chuck couldn't place it. He tried again to open his eyes and he made some headway. Slivers of light began to pierce through as Chuck slowly opened his eyes. "A little faster, Commander. We have a meeting to get to."

Chuck forced the rest of his eyes open and the light blinded him at first. He blinked several times as his eyes adjusted and he looked around the room to see who was speaking to him. When he finally spotted who it was he felt his heart flutter and his mind race.

It was DP-12, from Girls Frontline. His favorite character, and his waifu. She must have noticed the reaction because flashed a large smile, and winked at him. "While I certainly wouldn't mind lying in bed with you all day, Commander, we have been summoned to a very important meeting. I don't wish to get on the Directors badside."

"Of course, DP. Just let me quickly get ready." Chuck flashed a quick smile and rushed to the bathroom. He turned the water on to make it sound like he was doing something but he just stared in the mirror. He felt a warmth fill his body, and he laughed to himself. He was in Girls Frontline.
