Bucky was happy as a dragon, honestly; he'd never wanted to be anything else. Still that didn't stop him from wishing he had human hands right now.
Hunting and killing a dire wolf, even flying the block of ice containing the carcass back to the castle, wasn't an issue. He was used to doing that when hunting for himself. But he felt embarrassment for the first time, when he dropped it in front of Toni.
The block of ice cracked when it hit the stone courtyard and he winced.
"I, uh, I know you're never gonna say anything, Princess-"
"Toni."
"-doll." Oops.
Her eyebrows were up and Bucky looked away.
"Anyway," he said, loudly, "I know you're cold sometimes." All the time.
She shivered near constantly, even if she never complained (about the lack of a power grid, sure, about how there was never enough steady sunlight to set up solar panels, definitely, but not about that). She wore multiple layers, even while doing heavy physical labor. And she'd been ill.
Something about cold could make humans sick, or at least Bucky suspected as much. Toni always seemed to be catching or getting over something; coughing, sniffing into handkerchiefs, her nose red and fingers too pale.
"There's a lot of fur on one of these." He nosed at the block of frozen dire wolf. "I can get you more, other kinds of animals. But I don't…I can't get the fur off 'em. I don't know how; I'd make a mess of it." He held up his front paws, fingers thick and claw-tipped. "I can't do that," he admitted, shamed.
"Aww, aren't you just a big sweetie." Toni was grinning up at him now.
"Hey!" he protested. He was a dragon, huge and fear-inducing.
"Don't fret about it, sweetheart," she said, ignoring him. "I learned to skin and dress an animal before I grew tits. Gonna need you to get it out of this, though." She circled around the ice, examining it with a thoughtful look.
"I can do that."
