Rude Awakening.

I.

"Please stop… " I begged, however, I knew they would never let me go.

It hurts. It hurts all over. Why did I decide to play the hero?

A voice calls out, "For your sacrifice, we shall give you options to start anew."

Huh?

Where am I? What even is this place?

Just then several screens pop up in front of my eyes, and I began to scroll down.

[ The Boy with Potential, starts at practically 0 stats but has a potential value through the roof. Difficulty: Easy ] Y/N?

This choice wasn't so bad, however, I'd have gobs of potential, but I'd have to work hard for it so I wasn't interested.

[ The Invincible Girl, starts with high stats, however, there will be tragic events that will befall you in the future. Difficulty: Medium ] Y/N?

I'm not a girl, why was I given this prompt?

[ A Boy is a Weapon, starts with relatively decent stats, however you are stuck with a monster. Difficulty: Not Recommended ] Y/N?

I pondered over it, and began to wonder… Wouldn't it be cool to slay a monster?

My eyes burst open wide, as I woke up wondering where I was.

I died and yet, I reincarnated?

The excitement began to build inside of me as I imagined I had traveled back in time as I rushed towards a mirror hoping for some relief, however, life was quick to disappoint me as I soon found myself staring at my reflection, of a bruised 10-year-old boy, with gray eyes.

Huh?

I was so excited about my reincarnation I forgot about where I was. My knees began to shake as I began to realize the gravity of the situation, I'm stuck in a world with absolutely zero knowledge of and trapped in a child's body.

Talk about rotten luck, if only I had some super duper op system.

Welcome, Human!

Huh?

What's going on? I began to wildly turn my head trying to gravitate towards the voice, but it was to no avail.

You have been chosen to participate as a player for Remnant! Doesn't that sound awesome?

I wondered whether or not I had a choice in the matter.

Of course not silly! For I am a God and you are a servant merely carrying out my will, which is my entertainment! But fear not, for I am a merciful and generous being, and willing to answer 3 questions you may ask.

Where am I?

That was a waste of a question, we are obviously in Remnant!

I was starting to think this so-called "God" enjoyed belittling me...

Next question?

Who am I?

The "God" simply waved his hand and looked at me expectantly.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" I chanted, in hopes of mixing in Harry Potter with this strange new world.

You must've been slow in your past life because it's self-explanatory on how to observe yourself.

I looked at him with confusion, and chanted "Observe!"

Mercury Black

Age: 10

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Level: 5

Title: You're a literal nobody.

HP: 130/130

STR: 12

VIT: 8

DEX: 20

CHA: 1

INT: 7

LCK: 0

Perks:

The Feet of Hermes (Beginner Stage 1)

Tank (Beginner Stage 1)

Due to Mercury's "unique" upbringing, you start with 2 perks for free!

Something about how he said unique was off-putting, but I put that aside for now.

I began to realize with all these perks and powers I had must mean I'm destined for great things, this wasn't gonna be like my last life. Hell. I'm Mercury Black for god sake!

The door burst open and I crept towards it curiously. The person that stood at the door had silver hair along with a matching beard that covered up the bottom portion of his face. He wore a red duster jacket and had a somewhat intimidating look in his eyes, and looked quite similar to Mercury.

That must be Marc- I mean my dear old dad! I walked up to him with a smile "Good morning father! Did you bring me anything?" With a smile plastered across my face, I tried to give him the best puppy dog eyes I could muster.

Marcus Black

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Race: Human

Level: 50

Title: Legendary Assassin (+50% Damage vs Humans and Faunus)

[By performing a new task, you have created the Observe skill!]

In hindsight I probably should've been more careful when dealing with Marcus as one does not become a Legendary Assassin for kindness however, my excitement was cut short as Marcus struck me with a backhand, causing me to reel from the agonizing pain I received.

-1 HP

Blood spurted out my mouth as I tried to cover and hold it back to no avail.

I made a pathetic mewling noise, as I could barely speak with my lip quivering, I collapsed into a fetal position covering the back of my head which only seemed to amuse Marcus.

"Get up boy, get up it's time for your training." Marcus snarled while sipping on lean.

I was cowed by how Marcus could fight the way he did, with such efficiency while also being addicted to lean, it was a scary thought to ever imagine Marcus being free of addictions.

[Quest Unlocked: Training Day, Boy]

What's an assassin without a protégé? Marcus Black wants someone to take over the family business one day, which means training up his one and only son. Unfortunately for you, Marcus's training methods can be a tad brutal. Land a hit on Marcus during training!

(Difficulty: Hard)

Success: +500 exp, Increased Reputation with Marcus Black, Unknown Reward?

Failure: Decreased Reputation with Marcus Black

I'm doomed, aren't I?

Author's Note: The author of Remnant: The Game has permitted me to continue where he left off, and I'm going to deviate a bit from the path he was on but still have usually the same format. This is the first time I've ever written fanfiction and suffice to say I've quite enjoyed it. Please leave any tips or criticisms in the reviews!
