Izuku galloped down the stairs. He grabbed the railing and vaulted down the last two steps. "Oh no! What time is it?" Looking at the grandfather clock in the hallway, he paled. He couldn't possibly be late. Not for the turning point in his idol career. The Dekusquad had performed in many concerts before, but this would be their first at Musutafu Stadium. He couldn't let down his bandmates and an audience of thousands. Of all the times for him to sleep through his alarm! Izuku had stayed up too late last night, anxiously replaying all his songs in his head.
In the hallway, Izuku jammed one shoe on. Tomura sat at the kitchen table, eating scrambled eggs. Sighing, Tomura stood up and walked to the open door between the hallway and the kitchen. As usual, he wore the black leather with studded silver that he'd favored ever since his idol debut. "What's wrong, nerd?"
"My concert is in two hours!" Izuku cried. Tears started to form. He rubbed at the bags under his eyes.
"Then you have plenty of time to make it." Tomura snorted. "Don't spaz out."
"You don't understand!" Izuku waved his hands. "A million things could go wrong in two hours, big brother. I planned to leave extra early in case there was a delay. What if I get caught in a traffic jam? What if a pipe explodes and floods the road? What if I nearly drown and lose my singing voice? What if something is wrong with my costume but we don't have time to fix it? What if Todoroki, Uraraka, and Iida get worried and go looking for me, then they're run over by a bus full of clowns, and I cradle their lifeless bodies in my arms as I forever regret oversleeping past my alarm?"
"Breathe." Tomura interrupted Izuku's frantic mumbling. "How were you planning to get to the concert?"
"I was talking the bus. Oh no! I looked up the bus schedule for an hour ago. I don't know when the next bus will be."
Tomura pulled out his phone and texted. "I asked Oboro to pick you up. That should save you at least half an hour."
"Thank you!" Only wearing one shoe, Izuku hopped into the kitchen and threw his arms around Tomura.
"Yeah, yeah." Tomura shoved him off. "Have fun at your whatever."
"It's the Dekusquad's first concert at Musutafu Stadium." Izuku felt a tinge of annoyance that Tomura couldn't even remember such a big event. But the League of Villains was a more established and popular band, keeping Tomura busy.
Izuku could have joined the Shigaraki Agency like his adopted brother, but he'd wanted to prove himself somewhere he wouldn't get special treatment. His idol All Might had retired to become a manager and held auditions for his first team. Naturally Izuku hadn't been able to resist applying under his mother's maiden name, Midoriya. He'd been thrilled to be selected based on his singing voice with no special connections used. Izuku had worked his way up from the bottom at Might Agency. At first, Izuku's father had been annoyed at his son's defection, but Hisashi had come around and now religiously attended every concert. Izuku wondered if Tomura was annoyed at him for joining a rival agency, too. Maybe that was why Tomura passive-aggressively ignored all of Izuku's achievements.
Disinterestedly, Tomura asked, "Oh, will there be a bunch of boy bands at the concert or just yours?
Or maybe big brother sincerely hated his music. Izuku scowled. "We're not a boy band! To start with, Uraraka is a girl. We're the lead band." His excitement returned. Lead band at Musutafu Stadium! Oh, god, what if he screwed up? What if he forgot his lyrics? What if the sound equipment failed? What if a light fixture fell down in the middle of the concert and killed him?
"Uh-huh." Tomura folded up a piece of toast in a napkin and handed it to Izuku. "Here, eat something. You don't want your voice to collapse mid-song."
"Thanks, big brother." Izuku's annoyance faded away. Tomura didn't like pop music, but that couldn't be helped. Big brother still cared. "I'll tell you all about it later." Izuku heard the car pull up outside. He put on his last shoe and his coat, then ran out the door.
Tomura waited until the sound of the car motor had faded into the distance. Then he dashed upstairs to get changed. Since he'd given his car and personal driver to Izuku, he would need to leave sooner in order to take the bus. Tomura changed into jeans and a bright red T-shirt with "DEKUSQUAD" on the front. He put on sunglasses, used a cap to cover his white hair, and wrapped a scarf around most of his face. Even if he hadn't been using public transit, it was vital that he not be recognized at his little brother's concert.
As the League of Villain's lead guitarist, Tomura refused to be seen attending the concert of a rival agency. Since he played heavy metal, he'd be embarrassed to caught listening to pop music (even if Izuku's tunes were very catchy). Most importantly of all, Tomura would never in a million years admit to being a huge fan of his little brother. He had his dignity as an older brother to maintain.
When Tomura had first come to live with his Aunt Inko after a nasty incident concerning his father, little Izuku had only been a tiny bundle wrapped up in a blanket. Izuku had followed Tomura around everywhere as soon as he'd been able to walk. His little brother's admiration had remained firm even during Tomura's most awkward teenage years, and Tomura had no intention of losing it now. Tomura had to remain cool in Izuku's eyes at all costs.
Upon arriving at the concert, Tomura had to sit through two dull opening acts by boring bands outclassed by his little brother in every way. During the break before the Dekusquad would appear, Tomura unfurled his giant blue banner with DEKU written across the top. He could feel the excitement of the crowd rising. As well they ought to cheer, when they were about to be blessed with the perfect voice of Tomura's little brother.
"Tenko!" a cheerful voice cried. Yoichi Shigaraki pushed through the crowd, waving his arms. He also had used sunglasses and a scarf to cover his face. His cap slipped off to reveal long white hair.
Tomura leapt forward and yanked his uncle's cap straight. He hissed, "Keep that distinctive hair yours under a cap, Uncle Yoichi! Even if you don't care about being mobbed by your fans, at least try not to attract attention to yourself when it might derail Izuku's concert."
"Aw, you care so much about both of us." Yoichi stood on his tip-toes to pat Tomura's head. "You're such a good big brother, Tenko."
Tomura groaned. He preferred to be called by his stage name, Tomura, which meant "to mourn." His chosen name reflected the darkness in his soul. However, it was impossible for him to say so in the face of Uncle Yoichi's bright smile without feeling a little foolish. "Get off me," he mumbled as his uncle glomped him in an effusive hug.
"What a cute 'Deku' banner." Beaming, Yoichi pulled out a flag with Izuku's face on it. "Do you like mine? I drew it myself. I'm excited for little Izuku's first concert at Musutafu Stadium! Heh, I guess our whole family is full of fans for Dekusquad."
Tomura's eye twitched. His uncle was going to blow his cover. A younger brother couldn't understand an older brother's need for dignity. Tomura hid his banner behind his back and adopted a lofty tone. "I didn't have anything better to do today. I don't get this pop stuff, but it makes Izuku happy. No need to tell him that I was here, since I don't plan to make a habit of it."
It was difficult to read Yoichi's expression under his sunglasses. "I won't say a word if that's what you want, Tenko."
Tomura considered threatening Yoichi to ensure his silence, but gave up. It would be like threatening a cat—the cat wouldn't care, and he'd only make himself look foolish. He would just have to hope that his uncle kept quiet and kept undercover for the rest of the concert. In all seriousness, Yoichi shouldn't venture outside without a bodyguard. Hisashi would be annoyed if he found out. It would only take one fan recognizing Yoichi to turn into a mob. Hisashi Shigaraki and Yoichi Shigaraki, aka All for One and One for All, were the most famous idol duo in Japan.
Tomura's eyes scanned the crowd, wary for anyone who might have noticed their family drama. Fortunately, most people were focused on the empty stage as lights started to play across the wooden ground.
During his scan, Tomura accidentally locked eyes with a stunning blue gaze. Touya Todoroki, bass guitarist for the League of Villains under the stage name Dabi, stood swaddled in his own scarf. Touya carried a flag with Shouto's name on it. The two older brothers locked eyes, conveying a pact of shared silence. It would be mutually assured destruction if this got out.
Toward the front, Tensei Iida led a group of cheerers chanting Tenya's name. Tomura and Dabi rolled their eyes at each other—how could any older brother act in such a lame fashion? Of course Tomura would have loved to gather up a squad of fans for his little brother, but he had dignity, something Tensei clearly did not.
To the cheers of the crowd, the Dekusquad climbed the stage. Shouto Todoroki wore a colorful green vest, low-hung jeans, and black fingerless gloves. An electric guitar hung across his chest. Tenya Iida took his place before the keyboard wearing a dapper black vest and red pants, with his hair slicked back. Ochaco Uraraka had a fluffy pink skirt with sequined pink bows decorating her wrists, thighs, and hair. She twirled a drumstick in one hand. Her fans loved the contrast between her cute appearance and how she went insane on the drums.
Izuku climbed the stage last, to insane screaming. He wore a red short-sleeved jacket with a black shirt underneath and his trademark red sneakers. A glittery top hot rested off-center on his head. Grabbing his microphone, he flashed a heart sign with his fingers at the audience, then launched straight into the lyrics of the Dekusquad's number one hit "Feral."
The crowd went insane as lights played across the stage. Tomura smiled. Despite all his anxiety this morning, the nerd was killing it.
By the end of the concert, Tomura realized that he'd started waving his Dekusquad banner. He glanced sideways to see if his uncle had noticed. Yoichi gazed at him in an irritatingly fond manner. Tomura coughed and hid the banner behind his back. The crowd was still cheering even after the idols had taken their second bows. It had been hugely successful concert.
Standing on the stage, the band manager and former idol Toshinori Yagi announced, "We will now hold a drawing for the prototype of the first Deku figurine. Everyone, check the number on your ticket."
Tomura's ears perked up. He wanted that figurine. Izuku did not yet have any figurines, which made Tomura doubt that Might Agency was adequately promoting his precious little brother.
Toshinori called, "The winning number is 9067."
Tomura's heart fell.
Yoichi said, "Hey, that's me! I won!"
Whirling around, Tomura glared.
Yoichi smiled. "It looks like you really want that figurine. Do you want my ticket?" He held it out.
Tomura's heart hammered. Adopting a cool tone, he said, "I'd better take it. It would be chaos if you got recognized on stage. Dad would want me to protect you."
From the twinkle in his eye, Yoichi wasn't fooled, but he handed over his ticket.
Then Tomura realized that if he went on stage to claim his prize, he risked being the one exposed. Why had he worn his Deku T-shirt today? Tomura's older brother dignity warred with his desire for that figurine. He convinced himself that with his scarf and sunglasses, he wouldn't be recognized.
As the crowd parted, Tomura made his way to the stairs. Fortunately Izuku had already left the stage. He was probably off enjoying a cool beverage to soothe his throat and not even watching.
Tomura barely paid attention to Toshinori's drivel before he accepted the figurine. It was adorable! It even had movable arms and legs and a detachable microphone. The artist had perfectly captured Izuku's smile—Tomura had to give Might Agency that much credit. At least he'd gotten this figurine, not some stalker fan with a crush. Tomura needed to hold onto the figurine to protect his little brother.
Staring at the figurine as he walked off the stage, Tomura failed to notice Izuku standing at the bottom of the steps until they ran into each other.
Tomura's scarf slipped off. He grabbed it, but too late. The scarf fell to the ground along with his dignity. His face turned bright red. The brothers stared at each other in equal astonishment.
Then Izuku hugged Tomura and whispered, "I'm a big League of Villains fan too."
After picking up Yoichi, Izuku and Tomura headed to the back entrance where a limousine waited for them. Hisashi Shigaraki already sat in the backseat. He looked up from his magazine with a smile. "Congratulations, Izuku!"
Sliding into the seat, Izuku said, "Thank you for all your help, Dad." Hisashi and Inko had insisted on personally handling the lighting and sound for Izuku's first Musutafu concert. As a result, they'd spent most of the concert backstage. Izuku knew his father's willingness to work with his rival Toshinori to make the concert a success represented how much he loved his son.
"You did a wonderful job, ducky." Hisashi kissed the top of Izuku's head. "I've made reservations at Chez Dior for a family dinner to celebrate. Your mother will meet us there—she has to transport some valuable speakers back to the agency headquarters first."
Grunting, Tomura scrambled into the seat behind Izuku. He wore a heavy jacket to cover up this Deku T-shirt. The heat must be making him sweat. Izuku didn't see why Tomura felt the need to hide it, but older brothers had their pride. Honestly, Izuku was just happy to know that his big brother had taken an interest in his music.
Yoichi sat down next to Tomura, texting on his phone. "My boyfriend says that he can make it."
Hisashi choked. "Your what? Wait, I thought the press was making up the scandal with you and spikey-hair. Didn't the obnoxious thief try to poach you for his band the Vestiges? He should be gone now! I made a counteroffer, and you agreed to stay! You can't want another raise already."
"I'm happy with the Shigaraki Agency. That and my personal life are two different matters. He's sweet, so now we're dating." Yoichi shrugged, still texting on his phone.
Hisashi growled, "You can't date a poacher! He probably still wants to steal you. This is all part of his diabolical plan."
Yoichi sighed. "You poached Kurogiri from Might Agency and Dabi from Endeavor Agency, so you have no right to talk."
"Is this because you're annoyed that I've been too busy with business lately? I already promised you that I'd spend more time on our idol work."
"Not everything I do revolves around you, big brother. I really like this guy. I expect you to be polite at this dinner."
Izuku was tired from his concert. He put in his earphones, then lay back and listened to music as his father and uncle argued.
At the restaurant, Tomura got out of the car last. He couldn't decide if he dared risk leaving his figurine behind. What if someone stole it? In the end, he decided to take it with him.
Hisashi hung back as Izuku and Yoichi entered the restaurant. There was a certain gleam in Hisashi's eye. "Psst! How would you like a poster from Izuku's first concert in mint condition?"
Tomura immediately perked up. Hisashi was the biggest Deku fan of all, with a mansion's worth of merchandise. Much of it was custom-made. "What's the job?"
Hisashi hissed, "I want you to be the nephew-in-law from hell at this dinner. Bring out the full force of emo, sulky, and overprotective. Spill a drink on the poacher, and I'll even throw in a free car."
Tomura stuck out his hand and shook on it. "Done."
Author's Note: This is a strictly happy AU, no angst. Everyone is alive. Hisashi is still All for One, but in a world with no powers he just became a slightly unethical businessman. Hisashi has to behave himself and keep the signature All for One possessiveness under control because if he doesn't, his little brother can just stop showing up at family dinners.
FYI: Gfan97 wrote a cute AU for my fic "Fear No Evil" called "Three Dads Fight For One Kid They All Lose." I love it!
