Don't Be Nervous (I Gotcha Ya)

By: M14Mouse

Summary: Newt is going to forget his best man's speech. Jacob is confident that he won't.

Disclaimer: Don't own them. How saw.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Newt said nervously.

He really wished that Jacob chose someone else. He was terrible at giving speeches. He could talk to creatures all day but humans? They left him in a twist of words, sweaty armpits, and a racing heart.

"Newt, it is the second-best idea that I had all week," Jacob said with a smile.

"What was the first?"

"Marrying Queenie. Still questioning myself about hirin' the new kid. He does seem eager enough to learn."

"Eagerness is a sign of a good assistant."

"…Or a burnt down bakery."

"Quite a possibility. I'm completely confident in your hiring abilities."

Jacob chuckled.

"I'm confident in yours. Your assistant was great back there," Jacob said with a smile.

"She was. I don't know what to do without her."

"Probably forget breakfast."

"I don't forget that often," Newt mumbled.

"Uh huh."

He wasn't that bad. Sometimes, work can be…more engaging than breakfast. Unless Jacob makes it, then it is quite engaging.

"Okay, maybe, I forget sometimes," He said bashfully.

Jacob smiled.

"Well, you need to at least eat breakfast. I know once you get inside of that head of yours. Tha' you won't come out until dinner and I won't be around to remind you either."

"I will miss that."

"You know…you could always come and visit. I mean…you know, we have magical creatures too. I want to hear about your adventures and what you're writing in your next book," Jacob said with a grin.

"Yes, I would like to…understand the creatures here as well. It would be an expansion of my book. I'm not sure my adventures are always that exciting."

Jacob snorted.

"And your gal is here too."

"Tina has nothing to do with it."

Jacob gave him a knowing smile.

"Pal, Tina has everything to do with it."

He felt his face become red.

"And I'm okay with that. She is your gal. You're her guy. Nothing's wrong with that," Jacob said with understanding.

"I just want to make sure you visit. I'm going to miss you, pal. I mean…not the life, death, and war situations but this...not the wedding this but…us. It is nice to have my best friend around," Jacob added.

His throat tighten up at the words

Very few people would call him a friend…

But a best friend?

If it was possible, his face would turn even deeper shade of red.

"I can't possibly be your best friend…"

"Newt…I lost a lot of people during the war. A lot of good people. The Cannery wasn't a place to make friends. No one talks…no one. It is like a void. So, meeting you…heck…getting to know you. It has been a wonderful experience. Sure, I have no clue what you are talking about. But you know, buddy, I don't care. You are my best friend and I'm proud of it."

He ducked his head for a moment.

"You're a remarkable man, Jacob. You are brave and kind…and understanding in ways most people wouldn't be. You came when most people would have run. You stood with me when most people would leave. You listen when most would stop. It is honor and a pledge to be called you my best friend"

Jacob's face turned bright red.

"Going to forget the speech, huh?"

"I will probably forget it when I'm in front of everyone."

"No, Newt…I don't think you will."

A/N: One of the best parts of the movie is when Newt hugged his best friend. It was adorable. Read and review if you wish.
