Edmond had a good day at school playing with his best friend Annabel, a girl who was new to the country.
Annabel wasn't one to share the reason for why she'd moved away from the city, but she did like playing with the other kids as she really nice to them and they had been nice to her when she first showed up.
Everyone in class only knew the basics about Annabel like she has blue eyes, her hair is a reddish-brown color, and her clothes consisted of a white t-shirt with pink sleeves, a blue skirt and pink sneakers.
Annebel's favorite color is pink, but also, she likes purple, her favorite singer is Elvis Presley (The King of Rock 'n Role) and that's just the basics of what Annabel told them, but she never mentioned her family.
Edmond didn't even mind that Annabel was seven years old since he liked playing with her. "Do you want to come over to my house?" Edmond asked her, Annabel blinked back in surprise by his sudden question.
"Why?" Annabel asked him, she wasn't used to being invited to other kids' houses. "The teacher wants us to do an art project together, remember?" Edmond reminded her; Annabel's eyes lit up a little bit at that.
"I do remember now and yes; I'd like to come." Annabel replied politely, Edmond smiled at her as they waited for Mark and Scott to come outside of the schoolhouse as they had gotten into some trouble again.
A little while later, Mark and Scott came outside just as their father showed up in the truck. "Dad, can Annabel come over so we can work on our art project?" Edmond asked his dad, Frank looked at Annabel.
"I don't see why not." Frank responded lightly; Edmond helped Annabel climb into the big old truck. "Mom is going to love this." Mark said with a smirk, he and Scott laughed at their little brother who frowned.
"Leave us alone!" Edmond shouted at Mark, both his older brother's kept making fun of him. "I don't see you two hanging out with the girls in your class." Annabel spoke up, the older boys stopped laughing then.
After a sort of long silent drive, the group made to Edmond's house. "Your farm is beautiful." Annabel said as she looked around, Frank smiled at her. "Thank you." Frank replied with a smile to the young girl.
"Welcome home!" Edmond's mother Dory called out, Frank and the boys greeted her back. "Who is this beauty?" Dory asked she looked at Annabel, the young girl blushed as Edmond introduced them both.
"It's nice to meet you, Annabel and welcome to our home." Dory said with a smile, Annabel smiled back. "Thank you, ma'am." Annabel said politely, Dory dismissed the formalities and said to use her name.
Once the meet and greet was done, Edmond and Annabel went inside the empty barn to paint, but Edmond couldn't think of what they do for the project until Annabel suggested they both think differently.
"It's just like when I invent something new, I think differently." Annabel explained; however, her best friend was still confused. "I'll show you an example of what I mean." Annabel said with a smile to Edmond.
[Play Think differently from Disney Junior's Eureka!]
[Annabel]
So, I want to wow someone with
Heart-stopping innovation
And make something no one can believe
(Music)
I can't think too small or tiny
I've got to think bright and shiny
It's gonna be so amazing
(Music)
Think differently
Invent a real sight to see
Think differently
Attract friends magnetically!
Go on and make a scene
That has never been seen
Just imagine it and think differently
(Music)
(Annabel Speaking: "I'm okay!")
My first gift was kind of ooo-blah
But this one will be super ooo-awe
Better than I could ever dream
No reason to do the same old
This sign will be ten times more bold
I think everybody will agree
(Music)
Think differently
Invent a real sight to see
Think differently
Attract friends magnetically!
Go on and make a scene
That has never been seen
Just imagine it
Just believe in it and think differently!
At that last line, Edmond and Annabel looked at their painting and saw that they had painted both Edmond's farm and the animals. "Looks like we're done." Edmond said with a smile, Annabel laughed happily at that.
"I'd say we are and look, not one drop of paint got on us." Annabel replied as she looked at their clothes, both smiled. "That's good to know." Dory said as she came in, the six- and seven-year old's smiled at right her.
"Looks like a storm is coming and since it's the weekend, you'd better stay the night." Dory told Annabel; she blinked in surprise again. "Are you sure?" Annabel asked Dory in worry, she was afraid of thunderstorms.
"I think it's a great idea, and I see some dark clouds." Edmond said to Annabel, she looked behind Dory and saw the dark clouds. "Maybe I should stay over, then." Annabel replied nervously to both her hosts quickly.
So, being the good girl she was, Annabel help cook dinner and set the table even though she's a guest. "I want to help! It's only fair." Annabel insisted, the young redhead knew that she had to do what she was taught.
Later that night, Edmond had gone to his room to change into pj's while Annabel borrowed an old night gown from Dory. "Thank you for everything." Annabel said sweetly, Dory smiled then left the bathroom for a bit.
Once Annabel had finished changing, she went to Edmond's room where she found his mother waiting for her. "Time for a bedtime story." Edmond told her, Annabel thought that being read a bedtime story was odd.
Dory started reading the two kids the story of 'Chanticleer' which is clearly Edmond's favorite story and now it was Annabel's favorite as well. "Time for bed you two." Dory said as she had just finished reading to them.
As Edmond and Annabel climbed into bed, they saw flash of light and then 'BOOM!' thunder crackled and rocked the house. "AHHHHHHHH!" Annabel cried out as she covered her ears, the thunder had scared her badly.
"Annabel?" Dory said in worry, she and Edmond saw tears in Annabel's eyes. "I don't like storms." Annabel answered with a sob, Edmond looked at his book then back at his best friend. "Don't worry." Edmond told her.
Dory and Annabel looked at him. "Chanticleer will make the storm go away!" Edmond said with a smile, hearing this made Annabel smile before she laid down next to him. "He will, won't he?" Annabel asked her friend.
"He will and until then, I'll protect you!" Edmond declared; Annabel giggled at her brave friend. "Aw. Thanks Edmond, you're my hero." Annabel replied to him, Dory smiled at the two kids then left so they could sleep.
Although, it was hard for Annabel to sleep with the storm going on, she thought about Chanticleer and how he'd bring up the sun. "I wish I could meet Chanticleer." Annabel whispered before she had finally fell asleep.
What Annabel didn't know was that her wish had been heard and that's why both she and Edmond disappeared from the bed as they changed from humans into a kitten and young fox cub then landed inside the story.
Come tomorrow, Edmond and Annabel were going to have an adventure with some old friends that Edmond had made during his first adventure with them in order to bring Chanticleer back and stop the Grand Duke.
