Disclaimer: I do not own Marvel Cinematic Universe or anything else you may recognize
And now this is Part 23 of the series, the second last story of this series, before the last one comes. Won't be too long here, but will provide some good setup while telling its own story.
I know I'm going pretty fast but I'm looking to end this series soon, and I've gotten most of it planned out, only need to fill in the details is all.
Thanks a lot to Brainstorm Sorcerer for his help and suggestions again, couldn't have done it without him.
Enjoy.
Chapter 1- A King
Madripoor
The Power Broker was looking down upon city from his fancy, high tech office, wearing a black suit, a glowing yellow light at the sternum.
Suddenly, he heard a blast outside, and turned as his new aide walked in. "Sir, the Avengers are here! They're taking out everyone!"
The Power Broker looked completely emotionless, then gave his order.
"Send them in!"
Outside, it was Parker, Bucky, Natasha, Sam, Yelena and Walker who were battling the Power Broker's men, and taking them down.
Recently, the number of super-powered villains across the globe had increased for whatever reason, and the Avengers trying to figure out just why.
In a (surprising and unfortunate, for Natasha), turn of events, Yelena had been the one to guess it was the Power Broker, and was proven right, which she liked to remind everybody, like she was doing right now.
"Who was right? Who so ingeniously thought it was the POWER Broker? Oh! That was me! Score for White Widow!"
Then Natasha slapped her head and ruined her moment, making her groan angrily. "Gonna make a helmet even better than Peacemaker's now."
"Sure, sure", Natasha rolled her eyes as she spin kicked a thug on the neck, knocking him out, while Parker webbed three of them and pulled, kicking all three out too.
"Guys, I think something's coming", Parker said, his spider-sense tingling, when suddenly a guy with a flat head charged them all.
Parker flipped to avoid him, as Walker held up his shield to block, but the head was too strong and Walker was thrown back, his shield dented already.
"Hate it when that happens", the US Agent said with a groan as he kicked Hammerhead back with both feet, making him stagger while Walker leapt up and stood, all of them ready to fight more.
Suddenly, Parker's spider-sense tingled again and he flipped, before leaping, avoiding electrical energy that had been fired at him….from this air!
Sam's suit however, made it out, seeing the projection of a figure using his technology in thin air. It seemed to be wearing a hood.
"Redwing", Sam called out, and Redwing got behind the invisible figure, firing a shot at it as the figure staggered forwards, now visible. He was wearing some sort of cloak and boots.
Suddenly, he took out firearms and shot at them, as they'd to avoid, with Sam returning fire too, flying around, and Bucky fired at him as well but he formed some sort of force field to defend himself, while Hammerhead charged again, only for Bucky to punch his head with the Vibranium arm, causing a reverberating sound, before Hammerhead staggered back, having been affected by this.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Walker charged forth and bashed Hammerhead on the face with his dented shield, staggering him back again, and then Bucky leapt, punching him on the face and finally knocking him out.
They looked ahead at the Hood, who fired electricity at them again, and they'd to avoid, until Parker webbed him from behind, pulling him down to the ground.
Before he could get up, Natasha and Yelena both hit him with their Widow's bites, then Bucky punched him out finally.
"So, I guess that's the whole crew cleaned up", Parker shrugged. "Right. Right?"
"I don't think so", Bucky shook his head, as Parker sensed something again, and leapt off as the ground burst, a giant brownish monster with no eyes, and pointed teeth and claws, emerged forth, roaring at them loudly.
"I don't like the feel of this", Natasha muttered with a groan.
Then the Power Broker himself stepped forth. "You Avengers really thought I would not think ahead in case you found me, and have countermeasures ready? You must be stupid."
"Or maybe its you, considering you're trying to give rise to these supervillains", Yelena shrugged. "I mean, there's a lot more legal stuff to earn fro-"
"The world is changing, Miss Belova", the Power Broker told her, and all of them in general, also enjoying the shocked look on her face that he knew her name. "Anyone with powers, can be a superhero, or a supervillain. I am just the one giving them powers."
"That Warhawk guy who worked with Mr. Negative, that was you", Parker said.
"Indeed, and a lot more."
"The Super Soldier Serum that Karli and her cohorts stole", Falcon noted as well.
"Since you already have the answers, I assume you will all die peacefully."
The monster roared at them again and struck out to attack as they all leapt back (or flew back in Falcon's case) to avoid.
The dark Space was silent, like usual, except when a threat to the world, or the Universe, or the Multiverse, ended up attacking.
And lo, in the darkness, there was thunder, for Stormbreaker flew through Space, lightning crackling from it, and the Bifrost radiating off of it as well.
Racing behind it was the roaring voice of a God made King.
"Hear me", his testament begun. "The old King….the old King is gone."
His words soared across the Heavens of Vanaheim alongside his ax. For the Vanir, the sisters of Asgard, it is a humming sound of peace.
And here too, in the skies of Alfheim, a rumbling decree of a war well-fought, the Light Elves cheered and wept that darkness may never touch their bright shores again when they saw the ax and heard the words.
In the dark fields of Nidavellir, the Dwarves drunk and sang as Stormbreaker rumbled for them as well.
And in Jotunheim, the Frost Giants felt, for the first time in a long time, a biting chill run down their backs, while Stormbreaker flew forth.
The message is the same for all to hear. Even in the hottest pit of damnation, in Muspelheim, the Demons heard it over the wail of the eternal flames, while seeing the ax soar.
"We have, all of us warred enough for a thousand lifetimes", the ax spoke, as its voice resounded across Svartalfheim, which was now empty, but this was heard in the Realms.
"Enough blood has been spilled in the Nine Realms. Enough death." The ax was soaring through Niffleheim now. "From the rose-scented rainstorms of Heven, to the deepest hollows of Niffleheim, it ends now. It ends forever."
Stormbreaker soared towards Earth now, or Midgard.
"It ends with me. So hear this, realms of the world ash, for I shall say it only once."
The ax was hurtling towards Madripoor now.
"Let there be peace…."
Bucky was firing at the monster, before they'd to dodge a blast from the Power Broker himself.
"…or let there be thunder."
Stomrbreaker suddenly burst through the mouth of the monster, crackling with lightning and the Bifrost radiating off of it, and a blast of lightning struck the Power Broker as well, sending him flying into a wall, breaking it, while he fell down, unconscious.
"The old King is gone. Long live the King. My name is…"
"Thor!"
The walls of the place were now broken due to Stormbreaker having burst through, but the monster was dead, and was now in the middle of the floor.
They all exchanged looks, Yelena looking at the ax. "What the…..hey….." She looked at the rest with a toothed grin. "Anyone have a sharpie?"
Thor, clad in regal robes with armored decorations, was at the cliff where Odin had passed on, and now held out his hand, before sensing Sif approach him.
"Did you see that, Lady Sif?" He asked her with a smile.
"Yes Thor, I see everything", Sif said, her eyes glowing a bright green, like Heimdall's used to glow a bright orange.
"All Nine Realms. One throw. My father himself could not make that", Thor chuckled.
"Yes Thor, that was a very good shot", Sif said, her all-seeing eyes tracking the movement of the powerful ax.
Then next moment, Stormbreaker was in Thor's hand, lightning cracking from it while the Bifrost radiated, before stopping. "Aye. That it was. Is there anything else in these Realms that requires my attention? Maybe a Frost Giant or Fire Demon in need of smiting. Or perhaps the Multiverse in need of saving once more-"
"My Lord", Sif cut him off politely, looking at him with her glowing green all-seeing eyes. "The Bifrost is now under my protection, and I'm afraid your smiting days are over. I have my job, Thor, please don't hide from yours. The Universe or Multiverse aren't always in danger. And besides, this is going to be a big day."
Thor was hit by a realization and nodded solemnly. "Aye." He noticed something had been written on his ax's blade using a sharpie.
'Nice shot, enjoy your retirement.'
With that, he turned around, where New Asgard was no longer there on the ground. Rather, a city floated up in the sky, a small yet beautiful city, overlooking the whole Earth, one that looked almost as magnificent as Asgard had when it had been around.
This was what Thor and his close ones had done, use their powers to rebuild Asgard, and make it look glorious while it floated up in the sky. Not as glorious as Asgard had been, but good enough for the people to remember their former glory.
This was the floating city of Asgardia, where magic and technology met, and it was one of the most glorious things in the entire Universe.
Thor shared a loving kiss with Sif, then walked off as she said. "Don't be dour about it, my liege. You have been a good King, its just that with this development, this will need your attention more than heroics. And being King is what you always wanted."
"Aye, and now I have it for a while now", Thor said, looking ahead. "But what is a King to a God?"
With that, Thor flew up, using magic to form a cape and complete his outfit, looking upon the small but utopian and glorious city.
He idly noticed Devil Dinosaur running free and lazing around, and envied the T-Rex.
Thor knew with this development, he needed to focus more on his people here, his heroics remaining with them, something he had been dreading since he became King.
Aragorn and T'Challa did not always join the bigger fights because they were Kings with duties, and only came in when the Universe or Multiverse was in danger.
Now he was going to be the same for Asgardia.
The time as a hero was ending, his time as an Avenger was ending, he would have to retire from it. In a way, Thor was less of a hero now, and more of a King, yet the throne felt a little like a cage.
Thor's throne had been fashioned out of a crystal tree made to resemble the World Tree, and he sat upon it, his ax lying by his side, seeing Valkyrie before him.
"Leave me."
"If I may, my Lord", Valkyrie started. "Before you are to address Asgardia, there are many duties that require your attention. The feasts, and the number of casks and ale I am to commission, for one-"
Thor simply looked ahead, as Valkyrie realized. "Right."
She looked at some servants nearby. "Well, you heard the King! What are you all tarrying about, then? Out with you lot!"
"But of the ale?" The lead servant asked.
"Do whatever you want, what do they say here? "Err on the side of caution"", Valkyrie remembered, then shrugged. "Err on the side of too much."
They walked out, Valkyrie shutting the doors and bowing respectfully. "My King."
Thor sighed, then heard something in the shadows, seeing Loki pop out. "How does it feel to sit on this kind of throne? A real one?"
The only ones Thor was close to, who stayed here with him, were Sif, Loki, Valkyrie, Korg, Miek and Devil Dinosaur.
Hercules was now accustomed enough in modern ways and stayed at the Avengers Compound with the Avengers, as did Norrin Radd, who had used his power to repair his board after its destruction by Knull.
"I wouldn't know brother, I will soon."
"Nervous then, are we? For your big speech?" Loki asked, pacing around. "All of Asgardia has gathered to hear you speak. And you do get grumpy when you have to act royal-"
"I am not new to this, Loki. I have spoken too many in the past", Thor pointed out.
"Oh yes, you've told armies and other foes when you're about to kill them, then done so", Loki pointed out. "This is rather different, yes? You have the Captain, Aragorn, T'Challa, and the Supermen from Earth-167 and Earth-96 on speed dial or something? I imagine they could give you a few pointers. They inspire everyone a lot, you're meant to inspire these people."
"Indeed, Loki, I have practised the speech, let us hope it goes well", Thor simply said, the brothers sharing a smile. "Besides, I am All-Father now, clothed in the power that comes with the title
And then, Thor walked out, to address his city. Unfortunately, Loki was right, Thor was nervous to give this speech to the gathered masses of the golden city.
Now he stood over everyone, up in his palace, looking down at his citizens, who looked up at him reverently, waiting to hear his words.
In his most private hours, the Thunder God had practised his speech aloud to an audience of his reflection and his ax.
And as the temperature dropped in his kingdom, as he felt his own breath and witnessed the first falling snow, not of his own making, he realized, that he will never speak a word of it.
"Odin's Beard!"
Something crashed upon the city with a loud scream. He seemed to be in a purple and blue suit that covered him, and he wore a purple headpiece.
It was only after the crash, and hearing his people's screams, did Thor fully process this.
Thor held up Stormbreaker as it glowed with lightning, and so did Thor himself and the sky, roaring in rage while he flew towards the being, about to strike him.
"GALACTUS!" Thor screamed in rage at the crashed and frostbitten Devourer. "YOU DARE?!"
A giant bolt of lightning struck down, hitting Galactus as he screamed in pain, then the bolt stopped while Thor glared in rage, about to strike again.
"Stop!" Galactus suddenly said, his voice very weak and husky, which was a shock. "I came…for help…..you are the only one who can."
Thor looked down at Galactus with cold rage as the Devourer continued speaking.
"The Star Plague….the Great Black Winter….it is….coming."
And then Galactus fainted upon the city where he had crashed.
So, you can see what's being adapted here by me.
The Power Broker is also taken care of.
Thanks a lot to Brainstorm Sorcerer for his help once more.
Hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with another story.
