Thank you to everyone who has favorited, followed or reviewed this fic so far.
Thanks a lot to Brainstorm Sorcerer for his help again as well.
Enjoy this.
Screw Loose: Thanks for the review. The 4th Thor movie is horrible and Thor in it is nothing like how Thor should be. Seriously, Endgame was great but it ruined Thor, and this movie doubled down on it. Plus, it only makes Thor the God of Bad Comedy, not Love. Seriously, the film is so bad even Marvel shills hate it. Thank you and glad you love it. I don't have any desire to write anything for that era of DW, normal or bashing or otherwise, I simply ignore it in my works for my sake. Gorr is not coming, I've different villains in mind.
Chapter 3- Broken Brotherhood
Earth-60
What do people do when the end has come? When their past and future all ceases to be? When the entirety of who they were and would have ever become ends up in moot in the silent, indifferent cold that falls across the Universe.
They pray, that their Gods, their defenders, their Heroes, they will come to protect them.
And they do- the Justice League of this Earth are ready to battle the evil threat that can end all of existence.
But even all of them together were not enough at the end of the day, for they too looked into the eyes of the Black Winter and saw the avatar of their one true end. For them, this was their Omega. The one who is.
At the end, staring at the encroaching, even the mighty Heroes end up doing what those before them had done- Pray for their Gods to save them.
Then finally, like everyone else, they will die.
Thor's vision of Universe-60 ended, his eyes reflecting the Universe being crushed in the grasp of the Black Winter.
He was many Universes away from this, and they were on the planet of Clypse which was below them, the first one on their list.
Yet, to all this, the God of Thunder, the All-Father, the King of Asgard, the Herald of Thunder, said. "Nay."
He looked at Galactus towering above him. "This planet is inhabited and there is life here. We will move to the next world, the Surfer gave me coordinates for five of these, surely four will-"
"No, I will need the power of all five worlds to survive the onslaught of the Star Plague", Galactus informed Thor immediately. "Though you may keep the coordinates locked away from me in your mind, know that Galactus is the one that stands between Universal life and death."
"Aye, and I stand between you and this planet", Thor shrugged, Stormbreaker cracking with lightning. "And you are weak, hungry. Would you like to see which one of us would fall first?"
"I gave you the power that you wield, Thor", Galactus reminded him. "I can just as easily take it away."
Thor was blasted by Galactus and staggered back, then landed on the surface of the Clypse planet, challenging the Devourer while his ax cracked with lightning. "You know nothing of the power I wield."
With a roar, he hurled Stormbreaker, which, to Galactus' horror, managed to chop off his fingers as he gasped in shock.
Glaring at the Thunder God in rage, his eyes glowed. "You dare strike Galactus? You exist only because of the grace I have shown, yet you tug against the leash. Have you forgotten whom you serve, little God?"
"Nay", Thor gave a smirk and revealed where his allegiances lay. "Asgard."
Before Galactus could blast again, Thor threw his ax and it went through Galactus' leg, making him screech as what looked like blood poured out, with Thor catching his ax on return.
Calling his ax back, Thor declared. "I shall tell you this, Galactus, even though you have named me Herald in power and title, I remain a King and a God, and I shall not suffer any kinds of threats or instructions from-"
He stopped when a rock hit him on the back of the head and shattered against him. While it did not affect him even one bit, it did surprise him, as he turned to see an oncoming army of this planet's natives, who were tall, lean and white-haired chimp-like humanoid creatures.
The creatures rushed Thor, trying to attack him as he easily pushed one down and tried to explain using All-Speak. "No, listen to me you Odin-damned fools! I can't save you if I have to kill you." He threw another down as well, before hearing something that made his bones chill.
It was the chainsaw roar of Galactus' murder-machine now finally spiraling online.
"GALACTUS! NO!" Thor cried out as the natives dogpiled him, not that it could do a thing. The God raised his ax, still cracking with lightning. "SIF! A bridge!"
At Asgardia, Sif heard and nodded. "Aye."
Next moment, the Bifrost hit Clypse, specifically, every single native, and when it disappeared, the natives were all gone at last.
"Hear this Devourer", Thor glared at Galactus, standing firm now. "The people of this planet are under my protection from this moment onwards. Do you hear me? No one dies today. No one dies for you."
At Asgardia, the hands of Loki were alight with green magic as he created an extension of city.
Meanwhile, Valkyrie was on her desk, surrounded by various of the creatures as she was trying to explain to them. "No, make a straight line here!" She sighed. "I need some ale!"
Korg stood with Miek and Devil Dinosaur was behind as he waved to the chimp creatures. "Hey, my name is Korg, this is Miek, and that's Devil. We're here to welcome you to Asgardia, after your planet is getting chomped on like a gumball. Sorry about that."
Meanwhile, Rebekah and Kol just stared at the sight of the aliens.
Kol asked in disbelief. "Is this what life is really like here? One grand threat after another and a whole heap of...I don't even know what this is."
"These are Gods, Kol, I don't think it's possible for us to understand." She said to him before going back to seeing her love with his hands in the air, increasing the size of the floating city for the refugees who just lost their planet.
Loki though was concerned, they can't keep expanding Asgardia, otherwise they would eclipse the Earth in size with the residents of four other planets coming.
Which means that they have to move where the flying city can continue growing without harm, which means, they have to go home, to where Asgard originally dwelt.
Clypse was slowly devoured as Thor cried out. "Galactus no! Damn you!"
The ground beneath him was converted to energy and fed Galactus, but the energy the planet housed was intoxicating, the Devourer of Worlds taking it all and destroying Clypse until it was nothing but rocks in Space.
Galactus was not only restored, but more powerful than a single planet has ever made him, and it shows in his new form.
His body healed, his armor darkened, and his Cosmic power a malevolent beacon in the darkness of Space.
"Galactus, you didn't have to break all of it!" Thor said, rage and horror coursing through them. "Those people needed their home, so they could return to it one day!"
"It was necessary", Galactus said coldly, then aimed his hand at Thor, ready to blast him for having tried to stop him before. "As is this-"
Then something blasted Galactus from behind, and Thor was struck on the face as well by something, staggering back as he spat out blood.
And next moment, to his dismay, the thing that had struck him reversed course and flew- into the waiting hand of Beta Ray Bill!
It was Stormbringer, and Beta Ray Bill had now come!
"Thor, I need to speak with your master", Bill raised his Stormbringer, cracking with lightning. "Please, do not make me go through you, brother!"
"I am sorry Bill", Thor said, the two now facing each other in Space between the floating rocks that once used to be the planet of Clypse. "Through is the only way."
Bill made to charge. "I know this is not you brother. And I will have my vengeance upon Galactus for corrupting your honor!" He raised Stormbringer. "He has taken my people's home, he shall not take you as well! Until then, know that I won't yield unless you are moved-"
"Aye, I know brother", Thor said sadly.
Bill struck out. "Then have at-"
He was cut off when Thor effortlessly backhanded him like nothing onto a barren moon nearby.
Bill, who was powerful as hell on his own, hurting both Gods and Kryptonians, then enhanced to new heights by Stormbringer, was backhanded like he was nothing at this point, showing how bad it was getting.
The moon was damaged badly, Bill trying to stand up as Thor hovered him, eyes cracking with lightning and the Power Cosmic both. "Brother, stand down. I possess the power of a Herald of Galactus as well as power befit of the All-Father of Asgard", Thor explained to Bill. "All of it, added to my own. Until now, you and I were equal in our powers."
He warned. "This will not be that." His voice then softened. "Go now, please do not make me-"
"I shall go nowhere until I free you of this madness", Bill declared. "Like you freed me of the madness of the Grandmaster and his Cosmic Cube."
Thor looked down, closing his eyes, landing on the ground, before opening them. "Very well." He raised Stormbreaker into the sky.
Lightning struck Thor while the Power Cosmic seemed to go out of him. "Do you see?" His apparel had changed, losing the glow of Cosmic lightning, his arms bare, his surcoat becoming regular cloth, and Stormbreaker returning to normal except, the handle is no longer wood, but the handle is metal, as it should have been when it was constructed.
"I am still me, brother", Thor revealed to Bill, whose eyes showed the hurt and betrayal in them. "I have chosen this path. I am slave to no one."
Then Galactus struck Thor from behind with his increased power, making him scream as the Devourer taunted. "You think yourself above my control, little God? The Power Cosmic is mine to wield alone, and you are my Herald, I gave you the power. You belong to-"
"Nay!" Thor raised his ax. "I took your power. You take nothing from me!"
As Galactus blasted again, Thor blasted back with the Odinforce, actually managing to hit and even hurt the Devourer as he groaned, staggering back.
"I have agreed to help you, and I will honor my word, but be mindful of your tongue if you wish to-"
"YOUR WORD?!"
Thor was struck on the face by Stormbringer, Bill roaring in rage. "TRAITOR!"
The God of Thunder fell down on his knees, spitting blood as Bill said in anger. "You're telling me you chose this? In your right mind you chose to aid this monster?" He now challenged. "Look me in the eyes and answer me this, brother, are you still worthy?"
Thor looked up. "Let me show you." He retaliated, using the hammer head of Stormbreaker to strike Bill, sending him flying off and crashing.
"I see you are not in Asgardian armor, rather Korbinite armor", Thor noted, looking at his hammer brother. "You came dressed to fight, so do not act surprised when you find it."
Bill groaned, picking himself up. "I would not-unh-dishonor the bond of Mjolnir, wearing the colors of it's kingdom when battling it's King."
Thor raised Stormrbreaker. "You are right, Bill...I am the King of Asgard, Asgardia, and all it's people!"
He struck forth as Bill rolled away to dodge and grabbing Thor's head, slammed him to the ground, with Bill snarling. "Aye, and at least one of us remembers what it stands for."
"You think this easy for me?" Thor broke free of Bill's grip and lifting him by the waist, slammed him down, breaking the ground once more. "The Black Winter is spreading! It is coming for everything, like it came for the Universe before us!" He declared. "I will not allow it!" Then he punched Bill's face, sending it down deeper. "If that means I have to align myself with the Devil….then so be it!"
He raised his ax. "I will not be judged by you!"
Bill kicked Thor, sending him flying upwards. "And if it means death for another planet, what then? How much death will you allow on your crown?" He got up, holding up Stormbringer. "You are a King now, you arrogant fool! You have an army! You could have sent the whole of Asgard!"
He struck Thor on the chin with Stormbringer, making him fly off and fall down. "You could have come to me!"
Thor looked up, snarling. "I do this because I am King!" He stood up and hurled Stormbreaker. "Because I am still Thor!"
Bill caught Stormbreaker by the handle, not letting go. Thor held out his hand, trying to call it back. "Bill, let it go. I will take your arm with it if I must. There is no power in this Universe to stop me once I call Stormbreaker back to my hand."
"And yet", Bill snarled, pulling back against the invisible force.
"Let it go, it will kill you!"
"NEVER!" Bill glared at Thor in rage. "You do not deserve it…or Mjolnir! You are not worthy!"
Thor looked away, closing his eyes, hurt, then turned back to Bill, opening his eyes, the irises glowing with immense magical power. "Fine." He held out his hand again. "I'll use another." And then Stormbringer flew into Thor's hand instead.
"Stormbringer, no!" Bill cried out in horror.
Raising Stormbringer, Thor brought it down upon Stormbreaker, and it actually shattered into pieces, making Bill crash to the ground and shattering it, Stormbreaker falling from his grip as well.
Holding out his hand, Thor called Stormbreaker and held it again. "I told you, I warned you. Will you relent, will you yield, brother?"
Bill looked at Thor, and his next words hurt more than any strong blow could. "I am not your brother."
Thor looked away, truly broken, Loki's words playing in his head. "The wrong thing for the right reasons." And it killed Thor as he raised his axe, cracking with lightning.
Then suddenly, the Bifrost struck the ground between them, making Thor stagger back and fall to his knees.
The rainbow bridge glowed brightly as Thor slowly stood up. "Who would dare-"
"I have watched more than enough", Sif's voice came as her silhouette appeared at the center of the Bifrost. "If you wish to continue this insanity, then I truly am sorry, Thor", the Bifrost faded, revealing Sif with her sword, her eyes glowing as she stood between him and Bill, throwing Thor's words back at him, "through is the only way."
And done! This was heart-breaking.
You might have thought Anti-Monitor destroyed Earth-60 but it was actually the Black Winter.
Thanks a lot to Brainstorm Sorcerer for his help once more.
Hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter.
