Months Later…
The family of Don, Christine, eight year old Xander, seven year old Noah and baby Lena were outside at the park having a picnic. The boys were running around throwing a football and ganging up on their father while Christine sat on the picnic blanket with her baby.
"Her miracle." She would call her.
They had tried for years after Noah to have another baby but after devastating losses she had given up hope until one night she found a baby on her doorstep. Once she had picked up little Lena she knew she would never let her go.
The baby cooed reaching for her mother's charm bracelet with anti- possession charms and other protective symbols.
"How arm my girls doing?" Don said sitting down and kissing his wife's cheek before picking up his daughter and sitting her up against his chest.
"Just enjoying the sunshine." Christine said but she noticed the look on her husbands face. "What is it this time?"
"It's nothing." Don said.
"Don." Christine said knowing him better than that.
"I got a call from a hunting friend. Think he found a case a few hours away. By what he said it sounds like a wraith." Don said
"You're leaving." She said.
"Chris, it's the job." He said. "It's not too far we can probably take it out and be back before the end of the week."
"I knew it wasn't going to last forever." Christine said.
"Babe." Don said. "It's a quick job. I'll be back before you even have time to miss me."
"So back to normal then?" She said.
"Well the new normal." He said. "We've got three now."
"Three against one." Christine said.
"How much of a fight could this little miss put up?" Don said blowing a raspberry on his daughter's cheek making the baby laugh.
"Wait until she starts dating." Christine said.
"Oh that won't be a problem. I'll just introduce all of her dates to my knife collection." Don said.
"She's going to love that." Christine said sarcastically.
"I bet she will." Don said smirking. "When do you think I should start teaching her to shoot or fight with a knife?"
"Don." Christine said giving a look.
"Kidding…." He said and she playfully slapped his arm making him laugh. "Obviously once she starts walking…"
"Don!" Christine said making him laugh even more.
So much to his wife's dismay he left early the next morning, kissing each of his kids heads while they slept and his wife saw him off handing him his lunch before he headed off.
The hunt itself as uneventful and just like he said it was an easy case that had him home before the weekend was over. He made it home just in time for Sunday Dinner.
"Dad!" The boys said running to greet their dad as he came through the door.
"Boys." He said immediately swooping them up into his arms.
"Did you get it? Did you get it?!" They pestered him.
"Did I get what?" Don said.
"Don don't tease them. And you better have gotten some for me too or else you're going back out for it." Christine said standing with their baby on her hip who was already reaching for her dad.
"Do you really think I'd forget chocolate chip cookie dough and ice cream for sundaes?" he said.
"My hero." Christine said kissing him and taking the ice cream while Don took baby Lena.
"Baba." The baby babbled.
"Did you hear that? She said papa." Don said.
"She said baba and that's the only syllable she knows." Christine teased.
"Alright you little hellhounds what have you been up to while I was gone?" Don said taking the kids into the living room to give his wife a break.
It was the perfect Sunday night. After dinner and a few board games during which the baby was put upstairs in the nursery.
"Alright guys time for bed." Don said.
"But dad." Xander complained.
"It's still…" Noah started before yawning. "Early."
"And the earlier you go to bed the earlier you can get up and go play at the park." Christine said.
"Okay!" the kids cheered before running up the stairs.
"Quietly don't wake up your sister." Christine said.
"Okay." The boys whispered tiptoeing up the stairs.
"You coming up?" Christine said.
"In a minute. I'm just going to lock up make sure everything is set." Don said.
"Don't keep me waiting." She said kissing him before heading up.
Don smiled before getting down to business, making sure all the doors were locked, the alarm system was activated, the salt lines were not broken, the devil's traps under the doormats were in place he was about to shut off the porch light when he heard something outside.
He immediately picked up his gun and stepped outside.
"Anyone there?" Don called out as a bush moved only for a racoon to jump out instead of the usual things that go bump in the night he shot on a normal basis. "That's one fat racoon."
Don shut the door.
"Dad?" Xander said standing at the foot of the stairs looking at the gun in his dad's hand.
"Hey buddy." Don said putting the gun away.
"Is there a monster outside?" he asked.
"No. No monsters out there and none in here. I just checked." He said before picking up his son. "Let's get you to bed."
"Lena woke up again." Xander said.
"Really? I didn't hear her." Don said.
"She doesn't cry a lot." Xander said.
"Lucky for us." Don said. "Let's go say goodnight to her huh?"
"Okay." Xander said hugging his dad as they went up the stairs.
Christine was in the nursery with Noah who was letting the baby hold onto his finger while his mom moved things around.
"She giving you trouble?" Don asked.
"She never does." Christine said smiling. "Wish the same could be said about these two monkeys."
"Say goodnight to your sister boys." Don said.
"Night Lena." Noah whispered already half asleep.
"Night sister." Xander said blowing a raspberry to his siter making her smile.
"I'll tuck them in." Don said.
"Okay." Christine said.
"Night sweetheart." Don said smiling down at his daughter making sure the music box that played a soft melody.
By the time he made it to bed Christine was already asleep. He pulled the blankets over his wife before jumping in the shower before bed.
Sadly the peaceful night was not going to last long.
In the shadows of the night lurked a yellow eyed demon who by chance found the child hidden away by those who wanted to keep her away from the grand plans of heaven and hell.
The traps laid around the house were obvious and would keep lower demons away but not him a window left open just a crack, a small gust of wind the broke the salt line and he had his way in.
Little Lena, completely innocent and seemingly unaware of what was going on around her could feel his foul presence which is why she let out a cry waking up her mother.
"Mhm Don…" Christine started but her husband was in the shower. She sighed but got up to go check on the baby that rarely woke up in the middle of the night.
"Lena…" Christine sang out but saw a man leaning over the crib tending to the baby who was still crying. "Don, is she hungry?"
"Sh." The man said.
"Alright, don't keep her up." She said walking back to her room only to hear the water shut off in the bathroom. Immediately Christine ran back.
"Lena!" She shouted only for the yellow eyes demon to pin her to the wall.
"You should have stayed in bed." He said with a smirk.
"Don!" Christine shouted.
"Chris?" Don said coming out of the bathroom only to see no one in bed and for the nursery door to slam shut loudly before the baby started crying loudly. "Lena."
With that he ran to the nursery as the boys came out of their room to see their dad pounding on the nursery door that wouldn't budge.
"Daddy?" Noah asked.
"Stay in your room." Don said kicking the door down only to find his wife nowhere in sight and a yellow eyed man holding his daughter.
"Heya Donny." The yellow eyes demon said.
"Put my daughter down." He said taking out a knife.
"She's not really yours is she though?" He taunted.
"Put her down!" He shouted.
"Babygirl or your wife?" Yellow eyes taunted.
"What?" Don said before he looked up and saw his wife's bloody mangled corpse on the ceiling. "Chris?"
At that moment the room suddenly went up in flames and yellow eyes was gone with the baby.
"Lena!" He shouted.
"Daddy!" The boys yelled.
"Xander get your brother outside now!" Don ordered.
"What about Mommy and Lena?" Noah asked.
"Go!" Don said pushing them away.
Don searched the house trying to find any trace of the demon or his daughter but there was nothing they were gone. He ran out of the house just as the flames started spreading destroying everything.
"Boys!" Don called out.
"Dad." Xander said as he and Noah were crouched down next to a basinet with Baby Lena safely tucked in it crying out.
"Where did you find her?" He said.
"She was here when we came outside." Noah said.
Don looked at both the boys confused picking up his daughter trying to calm her down only for him to realize that the blanket and the basinet were identical to the ones he and Christine had found her all those months ago.
"Dad where's Mom?" Xander said before Don turned back to see his home and his life as he knew it go up in flames.
